So the summer holidays are over, the kids are back to school, and suddenly parking has become easier. Can you believe that there are less than four months until Christmas? Time seems to go faster every year. I’ve noticed time going ‘bye’ even more since having a baby. Ty is now nine months old and it seems like only a couple months ago that he arrived into this world. When Ty was born we quickly had to decide whether to get him circumcised or not. We didn’t even have to think twice about it. My husband and I both said a resounding, “NO.” Neither of us believe in genital mutilation or subjecting an infant – who is unable to make such a vast decision about his body himself – to such a tremendous amount of pain, both physical and emotional. In fact, I am shocked that in this day and age people are still doing this to their babies. Contrary to past belief, babies don't feel less when they are younger, they actually feel MORE. They are hypersensitive to pain. And there is no medication safe to use on newborns that will block any significant portion of the torture of genital cutting. It is therefore experienced by the infant as sexual torture in the worst way you can image.

Strange News When you add all that onto the fact that foreskin is extremely sensitive sexual tissue, with over 16 vital functions that can never be replaced, it simply makes this atrocity even more terrible. You may be wondering why I’m writing about this in The Sentinella – and the reason is because some babies even bleed to death because of this operation, and despite that tragedy, even the emotional scarring is enough for me to feel the need to spread some awareness about circumcision to those who may be unaware of the damage this torturous operation causes on every level.

Accidental Heroes Thieves accidentally saved a dog’s life after breaking into a hot car to steal a laptop. The group broke into the parked vehicle by smashing a window, probably not realising there was a dog sweltering in the stifling heat. The car was parked outside the Irish Nobleman Pub in Chicago’s West Town. Pub landlord Declan Morgan said: ‘If the window hadn’t been broken, the dog would probably be dead. ‘It was on the back seat. They didn’t realise it was in there as the windows were tinted in the back.’ After watching CCTV, Morgan said the Alsatian had been locked in the car for around 20 minutes before the thieves broke the window. He said it was a further 40 minutes before the owner returned to the vehicle. Nose job The human nose isn't the first place you'd think of for seeking lifesaving drugs, but scientists have discovered an antibiotic in there which could help beat superbugs. The significant find is a major medicinal breakthrough, as the last new class of antibiotics was discovered in the 1980s. Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem, but now scientists have published research showing that the drug resulting from their research, lugdunin, has been able to treat superbug infections on the skin – including MRSA. The research team at the University of Tübingen in Germany has reported its findings in the journal Nature.

Back To School A Back to School Prayer

I’m praying that you’ll learn to be a leader.

As you head off to school today, this is what I’m praying for you:

I’m praying that you will do everything to the best of your ability — even when you don’t want to.

I’m praying that your day will go smoothly — that your locker will open, that you’ll get to class on time, that you won’t forget anything, that you’ll find friends in your classes. I’m praying that your teachers will know just how to teach you in a way that you will love to learn. I’m praying that you will make friends who will have your back, make you laugh and will make you better. I’m praying that you’ll have the opportunity to be the light of Jesus to someone. I’m praying that you will always be kind, even in the face of conflict or disagreement. I’m praying that you will seek out the new person or the lonely person and help them find their place.

I’m praying that you will be focused on the things your teachers are trying to teach you. I’m praying that you’ll have confidence from knowing you are a child of God. I’m praying that if things go wrong, you’ll always remember that God loves you and so do we. I’m praying that you’ll laugh a lot during your day. I’m praying that you will follow in Jesus’ footsteps and grow in wisdom and in stature and in favour with God and man. Most of all, I’m praying that this year will be filled with learning, growth, joy and fun. Have a great year!

De Cotta Law - Free Legal Consultations Property injunctions and boundaries In Spain it is possible to obtain court injunctions where there is evidence that a neighbour is building on part of your property or building without a licence and the construction affects your property rights. If you live in a village house and a neighbour starts to build over a terrace or builds an adjoining wall which affects your property, you would need legal advice. An injunction is a civil legal procedure and petitioning the court to make an urgent decision will stop the building work. In many cases you will be asked to lodge funds with the court if the injunction is granted. This procedure applies whilst the construction is ongoing. If you should return to the property and find work has already been completed there is a different legal procedure. Boundary disputes more often arise in rural areas. If you travel in the countryside in Spain you often see white stone borders delineating boundaries of country properties or plots. However where there is no marked boundary or a clear geographical division such as a river bed – arroyo – or track, it can be much more difficult to define or agree a boundary. Many old deeds – escrituras – describe the boundary as “… to the left the land of Señor. A and to the right the land of Señora. B ….”. When purchasing such property your lawyer can ask for a topographical plan and can arrange this with the vendor’s lawyer or you can choose to make the purchase dependant on the outcome of your own survey. The size of the plot or property you are buying will be defined in the deed and this measure-

ment is quoted at the Land Registry. If you already own the property and arrange for a surveyor’s plan which shows a variation you can return to the Notary and request rectification of the existing deed if the percentage of modification is less than 0,05%. However if there is any substantial modification or the Registrar has reasons to investigate further you may need to go through a more lengthy procedure and those owning neighbouring land will be notified before the land registry is changed. For more information on boundary disputes, injunctions and all property matters please contact us on info@decottalaw.net For a consultation with our specialist lawyer, Francisco Martín, please contact us on 952 527 014.

Sea Safety Tips When you arrive at the shore, check the beach signs or talk to the lifeguard to make sure it's safe to go in the water.

If it looks like a storm's approaching, be sure to get your child out of the sea (and off the beach) immediately.

If your child wants to swim any distance, he should stay parallel to the shore to avoid going out too far.

Look for the coloured flags, green being safe to swim, red meaning do not swim and also the jelly fish flag, advisable not to swim as you may well get stung!

Watch out for waves, it's great fun to paddle or jump over them but they can be dangerous and drag you into the sea. Before you let him/her dive underwater, be sure the bottom is sandy and clear of rocks. Look around to make sure there are no other water users – swimmers don’t mix well with powerboats! Don't expect the lifeguard to babysit. Lifeguards are trained to handle any dangerous situations, but you should always supervise your child in the water.

Most of all, try to choose a lifeguarded beach.

Interesting Facts... Kiribati is made up of 33 islands, of which 21 are inhabited. Once a British colony, Kiribati was granted self rule by the UK in 1971 and gained complete independence in 1979. During the Second World War Japanese soldiers occupied the islands and fierce fighting took place in the capital between US and Japanese troops. Kiribati used to lie either side of the International Date Line, but the government unilaterally moved the line eastwards in 1995 to ensure the day was the same in the whole country. Kiribati's economy is weak and is affected by rises and falls in the world demand for coconut. It is also one of the low-lying Pacific island states seen as highly vulnerable to rising sea levels and global warming, and frequently lends its voice to calls for action on climate change. Kiribati is blessed with plenty of birds, fish, coconuts, coral reefs and heavenly beaches.

10 kilometres east of Málaga in the far southwest corner of the Axarquía is the coastal resort of Rincon de la Victoria. Probably best known for its 9 kilometres of beaches and its Caves. It can boast that it has one of only three marine caves known in the world today and the only one of its kind in Europe! Once under the ocean these sea caves formed underwater galleries with gorges and columns known as Cueva del Tresoro. Don´t worry though, to visit the site nowdays you don´t have to put on your scoober diving equipment, the Treasure Cave has emerged above the sea and sits between the towns of La Cala del Moral and Rincon de la Victoria, dug into a hill of limestone from the Jurassic age high above the shore overlooking the Mediterranean. It has 500 metres of tunnels complete with remains of cave paintings, ceramics and items from the Neolithic stone industry as well as human and animal remains. There are stories of buried treasure, gold and precious stones, as well as tales of gnomes, fairies, mermaids, goblins and elves. If this all sounds inviting, beware the ogres, giants, dragons and cyclops who are also rumoured to inhabit these caves,

AS2974

along with spirits who roam the labyrinthine corridors of rock, searching for the fabulous hidden treasure. Away from this Jurassic Park and back down to the coast there is a seven mile stretch of promenade ( Paseo Marítimo) with many beach bars, restaurants and beautiful sunsets. La Casa-Fuerte de Bezmiliana, circa 1766, which was built as a defense against pirate attacks, along with the Torre de Benagalbón and the Torre de El Cantal has now re-invented itself as an exhibition hall and its walls are regularly covered with works from Spanish artists of all disciplines. There is a church in the high street, a huge shopping centre just off the motorway, a golf course called Añoreta Golf, just off the N.340 at klm 258 and even an international school, Rincon Añoreta Colegio, just off the road to Macharaviaya. All in all, a delightful corner of the Axarquía and well worth a visit!

was by focusing on other people suffering from eye sight problems.

In any language spectacles serve the same purpose. They aid your vision, they protect your eyes from the sun and are even considered a fashion accessory. Opticians are to be found on every high street in every town in the majority of countries in the world. In most countries eye tests are freely available for children and pensioners, and are modestly priced for others.

At this time she was keen to get a larger voice to help her, and she found this voice in the Lion movement of that time. They took on her challenge and so began almost 100 years of Lion service in helping the blind, and people with significant eye problems.

And as fashion in clothing changes so does fashion in styles of spectacles. In our affluent societies spectacles become throwaway commodities like out of date fashion clothing. As new styles appear, or the need for stronger prescription arises, the old pair are most likely to be thrown into a drawer and left to gather dust. But on continents far from ours it is a different story. In places where people have no clean water, no medical care, insufficient food, or live in war torn countries, spectacles are a luxury denied to the majority. With poor sight, children grow up unable to benefit from what little education is offered , many develop River Blindness or Trachoma, and adults grown into middle age losing their sight to cataracts, There are however, many Charities who do fantastic work in their drive to improve the sight of people in developing countries and research continues relentlessly in the effort to eradicate insect borne diseases and other causes of eye infections and loss of sight.. One of these Charities is Lions Clubs International with its many branches all over the world supporting this important initiative. From the early days of the Lion Movement in 1917, Lions have focused on helping to improve eye care all over the world. They were first challenged by the famous blind lady, Helen Keller, to become Ambassadors for Sight. She had spoken movingly at one of their early meetings in Chicago, America, about her own way of coping with her blindness, which

The largest service for Sight that Lions Clubs offer is the provision of glasses to people in developing countries and all Lion Clubs world wide participate in this scheme. The Lion Clubs in your community ask their friends, their neighbours, their local schools, their local Clubs and supermarkets to help them collect all of the unused glasses lying about in drawers, or about to be consigned to a dust bin. In our District, Southern Spain, being an amalgamation of many Clubs, each Club collects the used glasses from the donors. The collection is then sent to the Eye Hospital in Alicante where Junior Doctors, assisted by local Lion members, clean and calibrate the glasses which are then sent to developing countries for distribution to those in need Please remember, they might be your old glasses, but somewhere in the world someone is waiting and your old glasses may become new glasses for another person, giving them the precious gift of sight. If you can supply used glasses please contact your local Lions Club. They will give you details of their collection points. Lion Club contact details are to be found in most free magazines and newspapers. This article has been submitted by Lions Club, Balcon de Europa, Nerja, Their collection Boxes for used specs are in: Clinica St Cecilia, Los Huertos 46. Linea Directa A HISTORIC REFERENDUM On Thursday June 23, the people of Britain voted for a British exit, or Brexit, from the European Union in a historic referendum. This decision has prompted jubilant celebration whilst sending shockwaves through the global economy. Over the next two years or so, Britain will negotiate its exit under article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER BRITAIN EXITS THE EU Through the withdrawal negotiations, nothing will change for British expats in Spain because the UK will remain part of the EU during this transitional period. However, what happens after Britain has left the EU and how this may affect you is still unclear. LEGAL ASSISTANCE SERVICE Whilst many questions remain unanswered, Línea Directa would like to remind all its customers that its Legal Assistance service comes as standard in all their insurance policies. If you have a query you can call one of our lawyers. They offer information and advice on a wide range of matters such as taxes, purchase and rental of property, inheritance, family etc. As the Brexit negotiations evolve, our legal team will keep abreast of all the latest de-

velopments relating to events occurring in the Spanish territory and those to which Spanish legislation is applicable. 24-HOUR ASSISTANCE FOR EMERGENCY LEGAL CONSULTATIONS Should you require an immediate legal consultation, which due to the gravity of the matter in hand cannot wait, we offer a 24-hour legal advice service. Regardless of the time of day, we can provide immediate specialist legal advice for emergency incidents relating to you, your family or your home. IN ENGLISH The service is entirely in English. From the drafting and revision of legal documents to negotiations with third parties and or opposing parties. We can’t provide all the answers to the questions raised by the Britain’s exit of the EU, but we can provide sound legal advice for our expatriate customers living in Spain. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. If you would like to contact Línea Directa please call 902 123 165 More information on Línea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

Enjoy Your Day!! Hotel staff leave thoughtful, cheery note on guest's pillow - which then takes a sinister turn One of the best things about staying in a hotel are those little details which make you feel you're being treated like, if not the Queen, then like a minor member of royalty. Fancy mini toiletries which you can pop in your bag, a posh chocolate on the pillow - maybe even a complimentary glass of fizz - are just some of the ways you feel special.

Those sachets of freeze-dry instant coffee and shortbread biscuits are all well and good, but they do come as standard. So it's undeniably lovely when the place you're staying in goes that little bit further to enhance the enjoyment of your stay. Author Jon Ronson was staying at a hotel in Boone, North Carolina, and found this delightful note from the housekeeping staff, which he then posted on Twitter . It starts off strong, with a friendly "Hello! Hope you're enjoying your stay." Delightful. It continues nicely too, with, "Please let us know if you need anything!" Sweet. Then it takes a dark / existential turn with, "Enjoy your day, like it's your last." You'd probably sleep with the lights on and a piece of furniture against the door after that.

Method 1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/325°F/Gas Mark 3 and line a muffin tray with 12 cases.

So much so, we thought we would help your party along with one of our favourite delicious summer cupcake cocktail bakes to spice things up a little.

3. Add the vanilla extract, lime zest and juice and beat, mint and buttermilk, then slowly stir in the flour.

Try them they are easy, fun and delicious. Why not let your imagination run wild and even create an idea or two of your own. BOOZY MOJITO CUPCAKES

Ingredients • 170g self-raising flour • 20g cornflour • 115g unsalted butter • 225g golden caster sugar • 2 medium eggs • 120ml buttermilk • Juice and zest of 2 limes • ½tsp vanilla extract • 12 large mint leaves, finely chopped For the syrup • 50g caster sugar • 20ml water • 10g unsalted butter • 60ml rum (Victoria used spiced rum) • 3 mint leaves For the icing • 60g unsalted butter (room temperature) • 5tbsp icing sugar • 2tbsp lime juice • Zest of 1 lime • 12 mint leaves finely chopped • 1tsp of rum You will also need: • Cocktail stick • Large piping bag • Straws (optional decoration) If you can't find buttertmilk add 1tbsp lemon juice to 115ml of milk and leave to stand for 10 mins

2. Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs and beat again.

4. Pour the mixture into the paper cases and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool in the tin for 10 minutes before cooling on a wire rack. 5. To make the syrup: add all the ingredients to a small pan and simmer until all the sugar has dissolved and leave to cool slightly. When the cupcakes are cool, make holes in the cupcakes by pushing a cocktail stick down into the cakes,. Spoon one teaspoon of syrup onto the holes on each cake 6. To make the icing: add all the ingredients into a large bowl and mix until smooth. Add to a large piping bag and pipe a plain swirl on the top. Decorate the cakes with sprigs of mint and lime zest.

Good luck and Enjoy... Sue x

Nessie Has this holiday snap finally captured the Loch Ness Monster on camera? Gobsmacked Calley Tulleth, 28, was having lunch on the balcony of her holiday let when she saw a mysterious ripple on the surface. Her eyes "popped out" of her head and she grabbed her camera to capture a few snaps. The mother-of-three said: "I was having my lunch on the balcony looking over Loch Ness and all of a sudden I saw this blue thing swimming across. "I wasn't scared but my eyes popped out of my face. "I quickly took my phone out and started snapping away - I tried to zoom in and get a better view but then it just disappeared. "It looked so much like the Loch Ness monster."

The Meaning Of September September was the seventh month of the original Roman calendar. This is where it got its name which means seventh. Later, when January and February were added to the calendar it became the ninth month. When the British changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in 1752, they needed to adjust some days to get the seasons aligned with the months. They took 11 days from the month of September jumping directly from September 3rd to the 14th. Now it's as if the days between September 3 and 13 during 1752 never happened in British history Fun Facts about September It is the first month of the Autumn or Fall season. Constitution Week takes place during the month of September. September in the Northern Hemisphere is sim-

ilar to March in the Southern Hemisphere. American college and professional football begins during the month of September. Many kids begin the school year during this month. Teacher's Day is celebrated in India on September 5. The Anglo-Saxons also called this month Gerst Monath meaning barley month. This is because they would harvest their barley crops during this month. September is often associated with fire because it was the month of the Roman god Vulcan. Vulcan was the Roman god of fire and the forge.

Helping Axarquia News NEW LAW REGULARIZING HOUSES

garages, etc. and must be over 6 years old.

The 15th of July of 2016 brought about a new law regarding the houses built in the country.

2) The house must not be in a conservation area & must not be in areas liable to flooding.

The majority of the houses built in the AxarquĂa area, are built on land called SUELO NO URBANIZABLE O RĂšSTICO, in locations where it was not permitted to be built. The new law facilitates the regularisation of finished dwellings located on parcelaciones urbanisticas, which means, more than one building on the same plot. The new legislation constitutes neither an amnesty nor a full legalisation of the properties affected, but this stops the building being demolished.

3) And finally, the house must not be the subject of administration in the Town Hall nor with the Junta, neither criminal action.

If you have a property built on rustic land and other houses have been built on this plot too, whether divided boundaries or not, they will be regularised under the new regulations. The requirements are: 1) The house is totally finished, including pools,

This new law does permit property owners to access basic services such as electricity and water, register the property in the land registry office and enjoy the benefits of judicial security. At the end of the day, your properties will be regularised and you have no need to worry further. In future all properties regularised will be easier to sell, with no problems. For more information, please write to info@helpingaxarquia.com The information provided in this article is not intended to be legal advice, but merely conveys general information related to legal issues.

Martine appeared on Loose Women recently, claiming the accident happened when she went out on her first date with the Simply Red star. She said: "We met at a premiere and I vomited on him.” When asked why she vomited, Martine said it was due to nerves and alcohol and the fact that she couldn't eat. The flame-haired singer has hit out at Martine on Twitter, branding her story false. He tweeted: "Time to stop dining out on a lie @martineofficial. You vomited all over my driver's car, not my hair. He was furious.” "You were so paralytic we had to put you to bed,” he added.

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Robbie’s back Robbie Williams is said to be making a return to the new series of the X Factor. The singer will join the show at the Judges' Houses round of the competition, according to reports. He will be joining Sharon Osbourne, who is returning to the series, in her house in LA. It's hoped that the former Take That singer will bring in viewers for the ratings war with Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One. "Getting Robbie back on the show is a really clever move on the part of Sharon and the producers,” a source told The Sun. "He has a huge fanbase and will attract loads of extra viewers, purely from his name. It’s that sort of star quality they need to compete with Strictly."

Robbie helped Sharon pick her finalists back in 2013 and has also appeared on the show to give advice to finalists.

Holly, no! Songstress Pixie Lott is the latest to take on the iconic role of Holly Golightly in a West End production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a persona made famous by Audrey Hepburn. However her portrayal has not met with universal praise. As one critic put it: “Pixie Lott was born in Bromley and brought up in Essex so it is perhaps not surprising that her accent comes out as a bizarre mixture of Russian and French when she tries to play Holly Golightly, an 'American geisha'. “She’s rather like a young, spirited gymkhana pony. At every little bar cleared you want to give her a pat and a carrot.”

& t i u Fr Facts Veg arlic G

A pungent member of the onion family, garlic does far more than just flavour your favourite dishes and make your breath smell! The anti-oxidant power of garlic, stemming from selenium and other phytochemicals, is being studied for effects on high blood pressure and reducing the risk of certain cancers. Garlic is believed to have these healthy effects because it contains selenium, an anti-oxidant that scavenges damaging free radicals in the body. Its use was well documented by all the major civilisations… including the Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans and the Chinese. We now know that most of the health effects are caused by one of the sulphur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed or chewed. This compound is known as allicin, and is also responsible for the distinct garlic smell. A 1 ounce (28 grams) serving of garlic contains • Manganese: 23% of the RDA. • Vitamin B6: 17% of the RDA. • Vitamin C: 15% of the RDA. • Selenium: 6% of the RDA. • Fibre: 1 gram. It also contains decent amounts of calcium, copper, potassium, phosphorus, iron and vitamin B1. Garlic also contains trace amounts of various other nutrients. In fact, it contains a little bit of almost everything we need. Garlic supplementation is known to boost the function of the immune system. One large 12-week study found that a daily garlic supplement reduced the number of colds by 63% compared with a placebo. The average length of cold symptoms was also reduced by 70%, from 5 days in placebo to just 1.5 days in the garlic group.

Studies have found garlic supplementation to have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure. In one study, aged garlic extract at doses of 600 -1,500mg was just as effective as the drug Atenolol at reducing blood pressure over a 24 week period. Garlic supplementation seems to reduce total and LDL (the ‘bad’) cholesterol, particularly in those who have high cholesterol. HDL (the ‘good’) cholesterol and triglycerides do not seem to be affected. Garlic contains anti-oxidants that may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, as well as oxidative damage from free radicals which contributes to the ageing process. Effects on longevity are basically impossible to prove in humans, but given the beneficial effects on important risk factors like blood pressure, it makes sense that garlic could help you live longer. Garlic was one of the earliest “performance enhancing” substances. It was traditionally used in ancient cultures to reduce fatigue and enhance the work capacity of labourers. Most notably, it was administered to Olympic athletes in ancient Greece. Subjects with heart disease that took garlic oil for 6 weeks had a reduction in peak heart rate of 12% and improved their exercise capacity. At high doses, the sulphur compounds in garlic have been shown to protect against organ damage from heavy metal toxicity. The minimum effective dose for therapeutic effects is one clove eaten with meals, two or three times a day.

This is the only fish ever to have been observed playing with objects. In captivity, these fish will repeatedly take a small ball of aluminum foil and carry it to the outflow tube of an aquarium filter, so the ball is pushed across the tank by the water current. Elephantnose fish are thin and oblong, primarily dark brown or grey with white markings and a long trunk-like nose, thus the name, elephantnose.

They are shy, sensitive fish, who need pristine water conditions to thrive. They are so delicate that they are used at government water departments in the USA and Germany to test the quality of the water. The ‘nose’ is actually a sensitive extension of the mouth, that it uses for self-defence, communication, navigation, and finding worms and insects to eat. This organ is covered in electroreceptors, as is much of the rest of its body. The elephantnose uses a weak electric field, which it generates with specialised cells called electrocytes which evolved from muscle cells, to find food, to navigate in dark or turbid waters, and to find a mate.

Amazing Marine Life (Continued) Elephantnose fish are native to the rivers of West and Central Africa, in particular the lower Niger River basin, the Ogun River basin and in the upper Chari River. They prefer muddy, slowly moving rivers and pools with cover such as submerged branches. In the aquarium, they arae timid, preferring a heavily planted environment with subdued lighting. They thrives in tanks of more than 200 litres. It feeds on small worms (bloodworms being the most common) and aquatic invertebrates such as mosquito larvae, but in the aquarium will accept frozen or flake food. Peter’s elephantnose fish live to about 6–10 years, but there are reports of them living even longer.

They have the largest brain-to-body oxygen use ratio of all known vertebrates (around 0.6).

People Who Come And Go - The Tourists Are Coming!! So, on the one hand we have the dreaded “Brexit” saga….

aware of these trends, continue to offer good priced, regular flights into Malaga airport.

But on the other, we have a INVASION!!...

The Dutch and Belgians, we are all finding, are now flocking to Malaga to take full advantage of this situation to snap up holiday villas and apartments to offer as holiday accommodation and they are doing the right thing!

Apart from running Unspoilt Andalusia, our ‘house hunting business’, we also run a b&b – see www.escuelalacrujia.com. If we had a room for every person who has called us up just this August desperately looking for accommodation, we would have needed a 10 storey mega hotel to cope with them all! And everyone we know with a house to rent, be it an apartment on the coast, or a ‘villa’ in the hills, has been inundated with enquiries, despite having a full diary from some time back! So Spain is still a favourite, and my guess is it will keep being a favourite, just as long as the sun continues to shine!! In 2015 they were already talking about record growth (almost 61 million visitors between January and October last year, representing almost a 5% growth on 2014) and this year it is likely to be even higher! We are lucky, bathing, unfortunately, in the misfortune of the difficult times being had in places such as Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt, and the continuing crises in Greece, and airlines, fully

Some people are concerned about the new legislation just introduced to regulate holiday homes, but I would say to anyone thinking of doing this, don’t be afraid. It is, on the whole, a good thing that the Junta is actually now wanting to recognise the growing demand for accommodation other than the traditional hotels. It is not such a big deal to register for a toursim licence – it is just a matter of filling in a form and meeting a few regulations. And if they expect us to pay a little tax on our earnings, I think that is only fair! I am happy to talk to anyone thinking about buying a property to let, so please do contact me. Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

In this edition, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask!

breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link.

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE I WORKED OR THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXISTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims. Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago.

Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge.

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASBESTOS CONDITION BUT I DID NOT WORK WITH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATIVE HAS DIED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DIAGNOSING AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the

In 2003, Finding Nemo became a $900 million box-office smash by scolding overprotective parents, encouraging kids not to let their folks’ nervous fussing hold them back, and gently suggesting that disabilities aren’t the same as limitations. The sequel, Finding Dory, doubles down on that last idea with an entire story focused on coping with disability and despair, couched in the usual Pixar antic adventure. Finding Nemo’s title character has one undersized fin

and isn’t a strong swimmer, but adversity and a similarly fin-impaired role model build his confidence. Similarly, Finding Dory has a character with a debilitating handicap who develops coping mechanisms, gets help where she can, forges ahead when help isn’t available, and succeeds on her own terms. In a way, this is another “Believe in yourself and you can do anything” story. But by refining and focusing that message, writerdirector Andrew Stanton and co-director Angus MacLane make it much more relevant. Many kids won’t notice the message, but it’s likely to hit home for the viewers who most need it, and identify most closely with the story. Star Rating *****/*****

A Tale Of Ale: Shepherd Neame Faversham, Kent, has a history of brewing from the 12th century, with ales being produced by monks. For the 14th century it is well-documented that the brewing of ales, certainly in Faversham, was carried out by women, known as ‘ale wives’. Shepherd Neame is recognised as Britain’s oldest brewer and has won numerous awards. Richard Marsh purchased the brewery in 1698 and the Shepherd family came into the operation during 1732. In 1864 Percy Beale Neame joined as a partner. Percy’s three children – Arthur, Alick and Harry were shareholders. Excellent ales continued to be produced and throughout the years of the second world war

– albeit with a very much depleted number of staff. Robert (Bobby) Neame joined the company and became chairman. Bobby held this position for 35 years. Bishop’s Finger (strong ale, initially brewed in 1958) and Spitfire (named to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the battle of Britain, with Spitfire being the legendary aeroplane of that time) are classic ales and extremely popular. India Pale Ale is a strong, hoppy beer, with splendid character. The high hop rate in IPA was originally to protect the beer during its arduous journey across continents. Double Stout is a classic ale. Having a rich taste and a velvet-like texture, the palate is rewarded with smooth, burnt flavours. Indeed, very worthy of

being named a masterpiece. Brilliant Ale came about from an original 19th century recipe, unearthed in archives. This bright and hoppy, impressive production, is reported as being inspired by the vision of early morning sun sending golden shafts of light through the brewhouse window. If Barley Wine is for you, seek out the Shepherd Neame & Sigtuna production. This limited edition Barley Wine, brewed in collaboration with Sigtuna Brygghus of Sweden, is oak-aged in Bourbon barrels – quite exceptional! These are just a few of the ales in a most excellent range from Shepherd Neame. It is also very much worthwhile locating the carveries, restaurants, new-look bars and accommodation the company has to offer. Tours and tasting events are available, too. www.shepherdneame.co.uk

Multi-cultural Night of Music and Dance

Sunday October 9, La Plaza, Canillas de Albaida As part of its Cultural week, the Ayuntamiento of Canillas de Albaida proudly presents the Fifth Night of Multi-cultural Music and Dance to be held in the Plaza (main square) in Canillas de Albaida on Sunday 9th October. Admission to the event is free but there will be opportunities to donate to Action for Animals local charity. The idea behind the event is to create an evening of music originating from as many countries as possible and we have an International line up of performers for the night. The event will be hosted by Judit from Aire Flamenco in Spanish and English and she will open the concert at 7.45pm, music to begin at 8.00pm. The first artists to perform will be local duo, Jukebox Bandits, comprising of Rod Jones and Mitch France. They will play a set of songs and tunes from around the World on electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin and keyboards, Jukebox Bandits and friends will also finish the night off with a lively set of music for dancing to. Up next will be Grupo Bailar de Axarquia, led by Francey, a local dance teacher and they will perform a number of different dance styles accompanied by a guitarist. Africa and The Netherlands will be well represented by Xenophone - African Percussion, 2 Africans and a Dutch couple performing a very exciting set of percussive pieces to include some African dancing, always a big hit at the Cultural Concert. All the way from Yorkshire especially to perform at this concert, the Wild Geese will be playing 2 sets of music, mainly Celtic but with some rock and roll and novelty pieces on guitars, fiddle, whistle, bodhran, banjo and mandolin. The Wild Geese last played in the Plaza for the opening of the hotel almost 10 years ago. Yanique and Patrick from Competa will play next, a mix of blues and contemporary songs on keyboards and guitar. Yanique is a singing teacher from the Netherlands who is relatively new to the area and Patrick is originally from Norwich in the UK and has lived and played here for many years. Following on will be Aire Flamenco, a band of 3 musicians, from Cómpeta and Árchez. They

play all styles of music, rock & roll, reggea, etc, although they recognize that Spanish music is their first love and that is what they will be performing at this concert. Biddies que Bailan (all local dancers) will then dance on stage, they are not yet sure what they will dance, an Irish reel, the Can Can, anything is possible, but it will be good! This will be followed by a ceilidh where you the audience have a chance to take part with a caller who will tell you exactly what to do. Last year the concert had to be postponed for several days due to rain, hopefully that won’t happen again this year as it is a bit earlier. This unique multi-cultural night of music had been a huge success in previous years, please come along and make sure it is just as successful again this year. There will be an opportunity to donate to Action for Animals, a local charitiy, please give generously to help our furry friends in need. For Youtube footage previous concerts, key in "Canillas de Albaida Multicultural night".
