Wow! What a sizzling month it’s been. August is definitely the busiest, hottest and laziest month of the year – but fun also. We all complain about it being too hot, we can’t park the car etc (flipping tourists!) and, let’s face it, just about every business we tend to need – eg lawyers, accountants etc, etc, typically close during August. But hey ho... we just have to manage, postponing these ‘needs’ for another month or so. The Spanish invented siesta for a reason and I think August was it!

But we love it really, or we wouldn’t be here. It’s actually a little depressing to think that by the time you read this, the children will practically be back at school. On the ‘up’ side, though, all the offices will have re-opened and driving to any popular town – or even beach – has become a nice experience again (hopefully). Plus, there will only be 16 weeks until Christmas! OMG …. did I mention the ‘C’ word? OK, let’s change the subject… The Sentinella’s new website is finally up and running. Please take a look at www.thesentinella.com. There are still a few tweaks to be made and articles to be added, but the majority is done. If you are a business advertising in The Sentinella Magazine and cannot find your free listing, please contact me on sales@thesentinella.com. Alternatively, if you would like to advertise your business on our new website, we have a great introductory offer when booking in September. Please call 664 210 468.

Strange News Have a spiffing September and my thought for the month (tongue in cheek, obvs,) is: If someone throws a stone at you, throw a flower at them …. but remember to throw the flowerpot with it! :)

The New Editor (of the original little mag)!

Smackerel An angry customer attacked a shop assistant with rotten fish in a dispute that got out of hand. The attack took place in the Ukraine city of Henichesk when the shopper accused the assistant at the fishmonger's of selling out of date produce. The assistant was slapped with the rotten fish and had it rubbed into her face, but she fought back and the aggrieved customer finally left. Cow gets ‘crocked’ A huge crocodile has been spotted swimming down a river while dragging a cow in its mouth. The monster croc was seen in Western Australia grabbing its prey off a river bank and carrying the headless torso down the Ora River. Incredible drone footage was captured by two shocked fishermen who had been on the water using a camera to film a promotional video. The nearly 20ft long crocodile dragged the cow off a river bank two kilometres before they began to follow and film it. “We actually saw it drag this cow off the bank a bit further up but we weren’t quick enough with the camera to film it,” said one of the fishermen. “Then it dragged the cow under the water and must have bitten its head right off. We could see the bite marks in the top of the cow’s neck.”

Kitty spin A pair of kittens have miraculously survived after being accidentally placed in a washing machine. Persil and Daz, who were renamed after their ordeal, crept inside the laundry basket when their owner wasn’t looking. The six-week-old animals fell asleep and were then loaded into the washer with the dirty clothes at a temperature of 40C. The kittens were spun around for a short while before their owner heard them banging from the inside and saw them spinning around. The kittens were checked over by a vet who gave oxygen treatment and kept them overnight.

Embarrasing Tweets #oooppss!! I was once thanked by a grieving family member for coming to the funeral. I responded, "No, thank YOU!!" Worst!!! I texted my boss at the end of my first day in the new job with: “Heading out. Love you.” intended for my boyfriend. Told a one armed man to tell his mother the flowers I just put together for her cost him an arm and a leg. Walked up to a baby-holding stranger (thinking it was my sister) at my daughter's football match and said "Give me the baby." The director of my play asked the audience to "turn off their phones and vibrators" instead of setting phones to vibrate. A friend went placed her order at a drivethrough. She then heard "Could you drive up to the speaker you're talking to the rubbish bin"

Got into the passenger seat of the wrong car outside of Starbucks. The driver waited until I finished my phone call to tell me. After flunking a job interview, got up, shook everyone's hands, and walked into the cleaning cupboard. Was asked by a distant relative what I do...proudly exclaimed "I are a teacher!" I was looking for clip on sunglasses to go over my prescription glasses. Asked the chemist at Boots if they sold "strap ons." I told someone at a party, "That dirty old man is trying to hit on you". She said, "Actually he's my fiancé". Sent the following text (about my Hispanic landlord) to NOT my roommate: "Jesus is coming at 10am. Be awake and have clothes on" On a trip, I saw some baby horses, I could not think of the word foal, so I finally shouted "Horse kittens" and pointed. Wife understood.

De Cotta Law Child abduction and International families

residency and custody.

Many families will be spending time away on holiday in August. The return to school and work is always difficult but for families who live apart or have to return to different countries this can be even more difficult. Perhaps the children have spent time visiting their mother or father in Spain and have to return to school in their country of residence. The basic principle of European and Hague Convention countries is that the children will have their habitual residence in the country where they spend most of their time and are educated, and have their friends and activities. However, this is not always the case as they may be at school in another country and retain their habitual residence in Spain.

The Judge told the boy that although he might not like the decision he was confident that “It is the right order for you in the long run. Whatever each of your parents might think about it, I hope they have the dignity not to impose their views on you so that you can work things out for yourself. In cross jurisdictional matters that can be so difficult to mediate, it is refreshing to see a Judge prepared to explain his decision to the person most affected - the child - and to bring to an end a stressful series of court hearings. For a confidential meeting or advice, please contact us on 952 527 014 or on family@decottalaw.net. See main advert below

These are questions of fact that have to be ascertained by the lawyer and ultimately by the courts if agreement cannot be reached. This can happen when one of the parents decides not to return the children to the country of habitual residence after a holiday. The provisions of The Hague Convention apply in many countries such as South Africa and Australia as well as all European countries. If your family is faced with this dilemma, before making the decision about whether to return it is vital to either have a written agreement with the other parent or to obtain a court order to change the residence. An application to remove the children from the country of habitual residence is made in the court of First Instance where the children live. In one such court case, an English Judge has taken the highly unusual step of writing personally to a 14 year old boy about his decision on where the boy was to live. The father wanted the son to move to Scandinavia and the Judge had talked to the boy about his future. This was the fifth case on the boy’s

Worst Landlord’s Ever Landlord’s from hell! Been living in this same rented house for almost 3 years now. The Landlord is terrible. He never fixes anything without a fight and when he sees the damage he just blames me for it. The house nearly blew up once after faulty electrics. The Landlord fixed it but not before he had a good go old moan blaming me for the damage. He thinks that just because it is his house he can take rent money and not take care of the house. There's a lot of damp in the bedrooms and leaks around the house. We're desperate to move out of this house but there is nowhere else available otherwise we would have moved out ages ago. There are a few illnesses within my family as well and the living conditions aren't helping. ------------------------------------------------------------House rules - No pork ever in the house or fridge, no more than two visitors a month, no showers longer than 15 minutes — and only

What Is An Emoji? An emoji is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion in electronic communication. World emoji day is on the 17th July, pop it in the diary for next year, but until then here are some emoji facts 1. The most popular emoji is “Tears of Joy,” where it’s laughing so hard it’s crying. It’s been used more than any other emoji on Facebook and Twitter for three straight years. 2. There are now 2,735 official emojis. 3. A guy in Japan created the first set of 176 emojis back in 1999 but they didn’t start

getting popular until 2011. 4. Now, 5 billion emojis are sent daily on Facebook Messenger alone. 5. Some of the most-requested emojis include an afro, a bagel and hands making a heart. 6. World Emoji Day takes place on July 17 for a totally logical reason. The "calendar" emoji — a minimised version of Apple's iCal icon for both its desktop and mobile app — shows the default date of July 17. 7. Spot the latest emoji below!

Interesting Facts During the 14th century, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the largest country in Europe; present-day Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Poland and Russia were the territories of the Grand Duchy. 190,000 or 91% of the Lithuanian Jews were killed, one of the highest total mortality rates of the holocaust. Lithuania was the last country in Europe to be converted to Christianity. Before Christianity, the country’s religion was ‘Romuva’. Lithuania is known as the land of storks, the national bird for the country, with about 13,000 pairs. According to a study made by a French scientist in 1989, Lithuania is in the geographical centre of Europe. Basketball is the most popular sport. You will need a copy of the police report. If you don’t understand what you’re being told, request an interpreter. We also advise that you contact your insurance company as soon as possible, whether you want to make a claim or not. Make notes of what happened. Take photographs of the accident, including plates of vehicles involved. Exchange insurance details as you would in Spain. Take down the names and addresses of any witnesses. Never admit liability or apologise. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. A Justin Bieber The definition of horrible rapping. Can sing because he ain't no gangster. Says shorty way too much, when he is the skinniest kid I’ve ever seen. Has delusional fans who dont know the definition of good music or cute boys. He should get into love ballads.

Jehovah’s Witnesses A group of people who's faces are flat from getting doors slammed in their faces. JETS Just Enjoy This S***. Josh He is an amazing, loyal, hot, caring and loving friend............ Hang on a minute! No it’s not! It means to never open a school book or study for a test. José The most common name for Mexican males. Usually gets the nickname hosepipe or H. Jock A term used by English people to generally describe Scottish people in a derogatory fashion (was once a common male nickname within Scotland). It is now considered to verge on racism when used by a non-Scot. The Scottish equivalent for the Irish "Paddy" or "Bog-trotter". Jack Sparrow The most slappable pirate out there, and the only one who seems to know where the waterproof eye-liner's at... Juicy Term given to a young girl with high sex appeal, fresh skin and a shapely figure. Often related to curves of a round butt and large breasts. Justin A Justin is a very sexy guy without a doubt, who attracts the girls like they're flies on poo. He is very sweet and has the body of a damn

panther. Like mentioned before, VERY VERY sexy. He might not get the best grades, but everyone knows that he really is smart. He can be a player with girls at times and flirts alot, but he mainly has his eye on this one girl. He goes for the hot girls, with the nice ass, big tits, etc. and normally is well endowed! Japan The country with the world's best toilets. Jerk Jerks are selfish, manipulative people who see women as little more then sexual conquests to brag about to their buddies or mere objects that are there for their personal pleasure. As to ensure the post-sex breakup will be in their favour. Jerks often play the "sensitive guy" early on so the girl will make most of the moves on him and after he's done with her and dumps her for some other girl just like her, he can make it look like she's at fault for coming on too strong, and consequently she'll take him back if he chooses to return for seconds. Jimmy A member of the male sex who is generally too dumb to use a condom. A Jimmy is widely known for being irresponsible and never pays his debts (especially his child support). Joint A rolled marijuana cigarette. Jank A thing that is worthless or useless. Jag An irritating individual with no sense of a social filter and no realization of the implication of his actions; socially inept. Joe Someone that thinks he is a player but really he is just a dumbass. Jump-off A casual sex partner. Jugs A woman's breasts. Especially when large and shapely. Jelly Being jealous, or hating.

Do I Qualify For Benefits? Dear Sir/Madam I have a very complicated benefits question. Many years ago, I married a widow out of love who had an 18 year old daughter. After the wedding, my father, a widower, came to visit a number of times, and he fell in love with my step daughter. My father eventually married her without my authorisation. As a result my step-daughter became my step mother and my father became my son in law. My father's wife (also my step daughter) and my step-mother, gave birth to a son who is my grandchild because I am the husband of my step daughter's mother. This boy is also my brother, as the son of my father. As you can see, my wife became a grandmother, because she is the mother of my father's wife.

Therefore it appears that I am also my wife's grandchild. A short time after these events, my wife gave birth to a son, who became my father's brother-in-law, the step-son of my father's wife, and my uncle. My son is also my step mother’s brother, and through my step-mother, my wife has become a grandmother and I have become my own grandfather. In light of the above mentioned, I would like to know the following: Does my son, who is also my uncle, my father's son-in-law and my step mother's brother fulfil the requirements for receiving childcare benefits? Sincerely yours, Mohammed THE ANSWER: Of course you qualify Mohammed. I have arranged to start mailing the cheques to all of you just as soon as you arrive here in the UK. Yours faithfully Amber Rudd (Home Secretary)

Model 211: 3% Retention in the Sale of Real Estate of Non-residents Property Vendors When a non-resident sells their property in Spain, they are required by Spanish law to pay 3% of the sale price to the Tax Agency. This retention is to cover the tax levy on any profit made by the seller from the time of the purchase of the property to the subsequent sale. 3% of the sale price will be retained by the buyer and will be paid to the Tax Office, as required by law. The buyer has a period of one month from the date of the signing of the deeds in which to make the payment to the Tax Office. In cases where a loss, or when no profit has been made in the transaction, the 3% retention may be returned. i.e., when the seller does not make a profit from the price at which the property was bought and the one that it sold at, it would then be possible to claim the reimbursement of this retention, as the tax would not apply. Although, if the tax office discovers that there are any personal tax debts in the name of the vendor, then the retention would not be returned until these debts were settled.

ULTRA CLEAN

In order to receive the reimbursement of this retention, it would be necessary to provide all the documentation that proves that no profit was made, e.g. the purchase and sale deed, as well as any possible bills or taxes that substantiate any loss. As these procedures can be very complicated, especially when the vendor does not speak Spanish nor have any knowledge of Spanish Legislation, we would strongly recommend putting yourself in the hands of a lawyer to ensure that everything is handled correctly. Random Jokes :) Anyone see that hovis lorry on fire on the motorway today? Emergency services said no one was hurt but the cargo was toast. ------------------------------------------------------------Nearly did it with a Ladyboy last night. Picked him up in a night club. He looked like a woman. Smelled like a woman. Danced like a woman. Even kissed like a woman, but as we arrived back at his apartment he reversed

his car into a tight parking slot in one fluid movement!.... That's when I thought f****** hell there's something wrong here" ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy climbs the diving board with a large fish under his arm. The World’s Biggest Dog! Meet the world’s biggest dog in history, George the Great Dane. He was 7ft long and weighed 18 stone but he was afraid of chihuahuas!

From the shoulders down, George was 43 inches tall. George slept in a queen-size bed. When he was 6 and a half years old he ate around 180 pounds of food a month; every meal included two cups of rice, one cup of dog food, three quarters of a cup of chicken, and four or five tablespoons of yogurt. When George flew to New York to appear on "Live! With Regis and Kelly," he occupied an entire row of five seats on the airplane. Sadly George died at home in Tuscon, Arizona one month before his eighth birthday. Weighing 245 pounds, George was in fact the runt of his litter when born but grew up to be recognised by Guinness World Records in 2010 not just as the World's Tallest Dog, but the Tallest Dog Ever!

NOW IS THE TIME TO PLANT VETIVER! WHY NOW? Vetiver is indigenous to India and was introduced here by the Spanish Government in 1994. Unlike most plants it loves the heat of summer. If planted now it will grow to 1-2 metres before the Autumn rains. Vetiver will provide erosion control and act as a wind block for the upcoming winter season. There are many more uses for Vetiver. Have You Been In Contact With Asbestos? In this article, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask! I CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE I WORKED OR THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXISTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims.Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASBESTOS CONDITION BUT I DID NOT WORK WITH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATIVE HAS DIED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DIAGNOSING AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION There are a number of conditions that can be

caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link. Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge. I can be contacted on 00 44 1244 340560 at info@woodslaw.co.uk or alternatively you can visit my website at www.woodslaw.co.uk

Flip-Flops Causing Foot Flop? Could those comfortable summer slip-ons be causing heel pain? With summer is just about behind us and the majority of us would have worn our flip flops for a good couple of months and started to suffer the side effects of going from sturdy shoes in the winter to these thin-soled rubbery sandals that do little to support your foot— especially at the arch. And that lack of support can cause a painful condition known as plantar fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis: A Pain in the Heel Wearing flip-flops regularly can stretch and strain the fascia, a sheet of tissue that connects your heel bone to the base of your toes. That can cause heel pain, which can be severe, especially as you take your first steps out of bed in the morning or when walking for an extended period of time. Over time, you may even develop a heel spur—a painful calcium deposit that can form if plantar fasciitis goes untreated.

Coping With Plantar Fasciitis Usually rest, stretching, and strength-training exercises for your feet, and temporarily wearing a shoe insert that cushions your heels will ease the pain. (If you find the heel cushions comfortable, you may opt to wear them long-term). You should also skip the flip-flops and opt instead for supportive shoes with thick soles that cushion the bottoms of your feet. This protects the fascia under your heel from damage when your foot strikes the ground with each step. Deep soft tissue massage into the underside of the foot and calves will be needed once or twice a week for a few weeks. Self massage with the thumbs and the use of a foot roller (or even a frozen small bottle of water) a couple of times a day for five minutes, should be performed on the underside of the foot. For further advice, speak to your therapist. By Amanda Payne Edge. BSCHons, RSA. See main advert below.

s Now b e l Ce en &e Kidman Th Nicol Oscar-winning Australian actress Nicole Kidman – who was actually born in Honolulu – made her film debut at the age of 16 in a remake of the Australian holiday season favourite Bush Christmas. By the end of 1983, she had a supporting role in the television series Five Mile Creek. She began gaining popularity in the mid-1980s after appearing in several film roles, including BMX Bandits (1983), Watch the Shadows Dance (1987), and the romantic comedy Windrider (1986), which earned Kidman attention due to her racy scenes. Also during the decade, she appeared in several Australian productions, including the soap opera A Country Practice. She gained international critical acclaim in 1995, when she appeared in her highest-grossing live-action film, Batman Forever, playing Dr Chase Meridian, the damsel in distress. In 1999, Kidman reunited with her-then husband, Tom Cruise, to portray a married couple in Eyes Wide Shut, the final film of director Stanley Kubrick. In 2002, she became the first Australian actress to win an Oscar, receiving the best actress award for her role as Virginia Woolf in The Hours. In 2017, Kidman returned to

television in the seven-part mini-series adaptation of the Liane Moriarty bestseller Big Little Lies, producing it along with her co-star, Reese Witherspoon. She has received nominations from the Television Critics Association and the Primetime Emmy Awards for herperformance. She then played Martha Farnsworth, the headmistress of an all-girls school during the Civil War, in Sofia Coppola's drama The Beguiled, which premiered in May, competing for the Palme d'Or in the main competition at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Most recently, she has returned to the stage both in UK and America, receiving rave reviews for a number of plays.

To advertise call 664 210 468 or email sales@thesentinella.com Thin crust A North Tyne fish and chip shop has angered A-lister Victoria Beckham with an advert which allegedly portrays her as an ‘anorexic fashion icon.’ The former Spice Girl has complained about an advert by Sidhu Golden Fish and Chips in Wallsend, and is launching legal action against the company. The firm has a delivery van emblazoned with a caricature of Victoria wearing a sash that reads “Anorexic Fashion Icon”. It is accompanied by a messaged stating, “Our new Victoria Beckham thin crust only 2mm”. A spokesperson for the fashion designer has slammed the slogan. They said: “It is highly inappropriate to trivialise such a disorder, and defamatory to be so thoughtless with a person’s reputation in this way. Sadly this is now a legal matter.” But Soni Sidhu, manager of Sidhu Golden Fish and Chips, has defended the advert. He said: “I would like to state that we recognise how serious eating disorders are and we would never make light of the seriousness of them. “We are not a fly-by-night business trying to make a quick buck. Anorexia and any mental illness are very serious.” Mr Sidhu also said the public had supported the sign and alleged the takeaway did not produce the image, but found it after typing ‘thin’ into Google. Youthful Anneka Fans have gone wild over the youthful appearance of Anneka Rice, 58, as she discussed the return of her famous challenge series for its 25th anniversary. They claimed the host, 58, looks “even younger now” than she did at the show's

I want what's she's on, she looks no different than she did when I was a teenager!” “Anneka looks younger now than she did 25 years ago,” another added, while a third penned: “Anneka Rice hasn't aged one bit!” For its return, the popular gameshow will look back on old projects and see how they are doing decades later. Passion fruit is an intriguing and mysterious fruit that has a surprising number of health and medicinal benefits for those fruit lovers who add it to their diet Immune System: Passion fruit has been cultivated and enjoyed since ancient times because of the boost to the immune system that it seemed to provide. This is due to the presence of vitamin C, carotene, and cryptoxanthin. A single serving of passion fruit has more than 100% of the total required intake of vitamin C. All of these vitamins act as antioxidants, which scavenge free radicals from the body and neutralise them before they can harm the organ systems and result in conditions like cancer, heart disease or premature ageing. Vitamin C also stimulates the activity of white blood cells and the rest of the immune defence system. Cancer Prevention: Passion fruit is also a powerful source of anti-carcinogenic activity in the body. Antioxidants in passion fruit primarily eliminate free radicals, known for mutating the DNA of healthy cells into cancerous ones. Passion fruit also contains vitamin A, various flavonoids and phenolic compounds, all of which have been linked to anti-cancer properties, particularly in terms of oral and lung cancers.

Vitamin-A Content: Vitamin A is also linked to medicinal benefits in eye health, including the prevention of cataracts and night blindness. The high antioxidant content of passion fruit is also helpful in reducing wrinkles, and the vitamin A boosts the health and richness of the skin. Digestive Health: Passion fruits are a very strong source of fibre, and a single serving provides the human body with approximately 98% of its daily requirement. Fibre is an essential component of a healthy diet, facilitating the digestion of food and the regulation of bowel movements. It can reduce signs of constipation, it scrubs the blood vessels clean of excess cholesterol and can even prevent gastro-intestinal conditions such as colorectal cancer. Blood Pressure: If you eat one serving of passion fruit each day, you can satisfy 25% of your potassium needs. Potassium is a vital mineral in the human body for a number of reasons, one of which is its role as a vasodilator. It relaxes the tension of blood vessels and promotes increased blood flow. This reduces the strain on the heart and increases overall cardiovascular health. Potassium is also necessary to maintain the proper fluid balance of the body’s cells. Improved Circulation: When combined with the vasodilating properties of potassium, the high iron and copper content of passion fruit can really make an impact. Iron and copper are both essential components of red blood cell production, helping healthy, oxygenated blood to flow freely to necessary areas of the body, stimulating the metabolic activity in all the organ systems and boosting productivity and efficiency.

Your will, should include a Brussels IV clause, which guarantees that assets you have in Spain will be left to your family, wherever they may live under UK succession law. Importantly, even though Brussels IV is an EU directive it will not be effected by Brexit. Unless you have changed or made a new will in the last 18 months and not asked to include this clause into your new will, then your current ‘last will & testament’ will be subject to Spanish succession law which includes forced succession.

If so, set up a UK Lasting Power of Attorney that will support and work for both you and your family wherever you or they may live. Fundamentally an LPA document offers you a soft legal blanket for the future. A ‘lasting power of attorney’ is a very sensible legal guarantee you give to yourself and your family, that should the worse ever happen to you, your trusted attorney’s would have good powers over your affairs; should they ever be required. To safeguard you and your loved ones. We offer you a confidential service with advice in Spain in plain English in the comfort of your own home, the advice we offer is independent, unbiased and free; should you wish to instruct us we work on a fixed fee basis, we do not charge by the hour. We adhere to both UK and EU consumer practice. We travel to you. See main advert on page 81

My Goodness, What A Lot Of Tourists!! This year, so far, Spain has seen an eye-watering number of tourists pouring into the country, with record breaking estimates of 83 million over the entire year. And next year is set to be even more spectacular. In August this year, the national newspaper El Pais wrote, “How many tourists can we fit into Spain?!” in an ongoing controversy over whether Spain’s increased success in this sector is a good thing or a bad thing. We have had everything so far this Summer, from packed beaches and long queues for tourist attractions, to street protests and strikes, as the new wave takes the country by surprise. It seems that all this is due to Spain still being a favourite destination for Europeans, despite recent events in Barcelona, it is still fairly cheap and the tourist accommodation, ever more regulated, is now offering better quality facilities and services.

required, and certain safely and comfort standards need to be met) but that is, I believe a good thing – safer and better for everyone. In Andalusia, so far, there are no restrictions on the number of holiday homes that can be registered, unlike other, smaller and more compact areas such as the Balearic Islands. Andalusia is vast, full of variety and plenty on offer for tourists of all types, and still cheaper than other parts of Spain, and has the added advantage of an airport (Malaga) that seems to cope with whatever the European airlines throw at it!

There is no doubt that anyone wanting to invest in a property here should seriously consider the statistics. The increase in people staying in holiday homes has shot up, from 20,913 people in 2012 to a staggering 362,493 people in 2016 and this year the figure is likely to be even higher. Yes, there is more control over use of our homes for holiday lets (a tourist registration number is

As prices of country houses and villas are still steady, and holiday rental prices up by 10% this year and looking to continue to rise, it is therefore an excellent time to consider investing and taking part in a boom that looks set to continue for the forseeable future.

Monthly Baking Blog By Susan Jane This months recipe is one I stumbled upon as I carried out baking trials for a cake & cookie wedding table in August. My brief, to provide a cookie and cake table for around 70 wedding guests, to include a delicious selection of sweet treats, “surprise us” the bride told me.. I sometimes feel to be given ‘carte blanche’ over such choices can be more intimidating than being given a specific brief, but never to shy away from a challenge I put together a sweet treat menu to include some popular old favourites and a couple of treats with a twist. As always I wanted to try and take advantage of the seasonal fruits available where ever possible. Having just received a bag bursting with apples from a local neighbour, this inspired the recipe below. Soft, chewy apple blondies filled with spices and plenty of apple! Once baked, the apples become soft and tender, their flavour bursting into your mouth. With that deliciously flaky, crunchy topping characteristic of blondies (and brownies) - what an irresistible treat for you to try! Apple Blondies Ingredients 113g unsalted butter, melted 3 medium sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced into chunks 1 tbsp lemon juice 100g caster sugar 100g light brown sugar 1 large egg 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp baking powder Pinch of salt 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 175g plain flour Instructions 1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees fan and grease and line an 8x8 inch square tin. 2. Place chopped apple into a medium sized bowl and pour over lemon juice. Toss to coat the apple in lemon juice and leave to one side.

3. Place sugars, egg and vanilla extract into a large bowl and whisk until smooth. 4.Gradually pour in the melted butter, continue whisking while adding, until the mixture is smooth and pale. 5. Add in the baking powder, salt, spices and flour. Once well combined, fold in the apples using a metal spoon until all the apples are coated in blondie mix. 6. Pour into your prepared pan and smooth over with a spatula/wooden spoon. 7. Place in the oven for 24-27 minutes until the edges are lightly brown and the centre is a very pale golden colour. A skewer, inserted into the centre, should come out clean. 8. Leave to cool slightly in the tin for before transferring to a cooling rack.

La Vaqueria Well what a fantastic time this Summer has been, sun, sand, beaches, choppy seas, mill pond seas, fresh water swimming, cycling, kyaking and all within an hours drive of the place I call home!! How fortunate I feel, especially as this has all come to pass as my eldest daughter has taken over the running of La Vaqueria. Situated 20 minutes inland from Torre del Mar is the agricultural village of Benamargosa. La Vaqueria is the old dairy which has been converted into a very popular cafe with pretty garden and patio as well as a gift and souvenir shop and art studio. Delicious home made food is served here throughout all opening hours: breakfasts, snacks, lunches etc...all home made with great attention to special dietary needs. Since handing over the reigns we have seen many changes and improvements...now live music every Sunday accompanies the weekly Sunday Lunch Buffets, theme nights on Friday evenings after the yoga class have finished, a lovely new cocktail bar in the garden and many people making full use of the venues facilities as a space for private parties. A huge list of home made frozen ready meals to take away

along with a great range of home made cakes and desserts complete the picture... absolutely something for everyone! Planned for this month is the start of the new Pilates classes, with "super-food" smoothies, a great big end of Summer bash with our local celebrity band, Mentally Ska'd on Sunday Sept 10th. Due to popular demand the re starting of the weekly art classes is on the cards, please get in touch by phone, face book or e mail if you would like to sign up for this fun and informal approach to learning to paint and draw. I will be easing back into work gently but by the beginning of October hope to be here part time, a couple of times a week. La Vaqueria Christmas menu is now available and bookings are being taken now for this 5 course meal, ideal for works parties, friends or office outings on Friday 22nd December in the evening...please see main advert below

Taste The Ocean At Sea Shell Restaurant Many of us travel back to London to visit family and friends throughout the year, so it’s handy to know a nice place to dine Many interesting parts of London are steeped in history. To select just one or two areas, each time a visit to London is planned, I consider ideal. Regent’s Park, one of the Royal Parks of London, also home to the London Zoo, holds countless hours of pleasures. Madame Tussauds is world-famous and very much worthy of a visit, for all generations. The Sherlock Holmes Museum attracts a lot of followers and

devotees. If cricket is your passion, then Lord’s Cricket Ground is nearby, plus several other attractions and venues. The multi award-winning Sea Shell Restaurant is located within this area and has been very popular for over 50 years, serving excellent cuisine to visitors, regular customers, plus celebrities and is renowned for its service and food, which is sustainably sourced, where possible and comes in fresh, daily. Celebrations and events are accommodated regularly. Private dining is also available. Starter choices include Devilled Whitebait, Prawn Cocktail and Smoked Scottish Salmon. Pan-Seared King Scallops are also very popular, served with minted pea purée. Main courses have something for all tastes. Sea Bass, Lemon Sole, Halibut, Salmon, Dover Sole, Plaice, Haddock and Cod are

amongst regular choices. Whole Grilled Lobster, with thin-cut chips, is enjoyed by numerous diners. Salads are also available, including Chicken Caesar or Prawn & Avocado, etc. Fish is pan fried or grilled. Desserts have Homemade Apple Cake, served with ice cream or hot custard, to Belgian Waffles, with hot chocolate sauce, maple syrup and ice cream. Chocolate Brownie includes a secret recipe and is selected regularly. The Children’s Menu is very good and has Cod Soldiers, plus other choices, with each including ice cream and a drink. Express Lunch – no problem! Early

evening set menus and takeaway cuisine, plus gluten free, are further options, too. Drinks range from teas and various coffees, through non-alcoholic, to beers, ciders and very good quality wines, champagne and spirits. I found the Sea Shell Restaurant an impressive place to have the much-needed break, with everything cooked and presented perfectly. Most certainly a restaurant to return to. ) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to AP & MP for the following jokes One day in the jungle, a chimpanzee was inventing some tools to eat his dinner. One tool was a flat stick sharpened along one edge, this he used to cut his food. The other was a stick with four smaller sticks attached to the end each sharpened to a point. He used to spear his food and place it in his mouth. The chimp was very proud of his inventions which he called his one point tool and his four point tool. One day he awoke to find that the four point tool was missing. The chimp was distraught. He ran around the jungle trying to find his precious tool. First he came upon the lion. ”Lion, Lion!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?” ”No” replied the lion, “I have not seen your four point tool.” Then the chimp came upon the gorilla. ”Gorilla, Gorilla!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?” ”No” replied the gorilla, “I have not seen your four point tool.” Then the chimp came upon the jaguar. ”Jaguar, Jaguar!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?” ”Yup!” replied the jaguar, “I’ve seen your four point tool.” ”Well where is it?” inquired the chimp. ”I ate it” said the jaguar, smugly. ”Why would you do that?” cried the chimp. ”Because” replied the big cat, “I’m a four point tool eater jaguar!” ------------------------------------------------------------Two prawns were swimming around in the sea. One called Justin and the other called Kristian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that inhabited the area. Finally one day Justin said to Kristian, "I'm fed up with being a prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten". A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted".

Lo and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Kristian immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old friend. Time passed (as it does) and Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old chums simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin gradually realised that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight. While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he thought perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a prawn. He approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo and behold, he found himself turned back into a prawn. With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam to Kristian's home. As he opened the coral gate, memories came flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted, "It's me, Justin, your old friend, come out and see me again". Kristian replied, "No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner". Justin cried back "No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed..." "I've found Cod. I'm a prawn again Kristian" ------------------------------------------------------------Englishman, Irish man and Scotsman in a psycology lesson. Teacher asks Englishman what's opposite of joy? He says sorrow. He asks Scotsman what's opposite of depression? He says happiness. He asks Paddy what's the opposite of woe? He says giddy up! ------------------------------------------------------------My girlfriend texted 'Love you babe xxx' I replied 'Love you too babe' She wrote 'It would mean a lot to me if you started putting some x's at the end of your text darling. xxx' I answered 'OK babe.
