m Fro Ed... the Today, 18th May 2020, marks a momentous landmark in history in my mind — after 66 days of total lockdown, only being allowed out for absolutely essential items, today we have been set free …. YIPPEE! We can now frequent bars and shops with a small percentage capacity, which means a bit of queueing in places, but that I can happily deal with. I went to Chiringuito Bere Bere today in Torre del Mar and how lovely was it to celebrate meeting up with friends again after so long. It was a very special and emotional moment — sadly, of course, kissing and hugging still aren’t allowed, but ever-resourceful, we blew lots of ‘air-kisses’ and gave each other virtual hugs instead! Next, is Phase 2 which has just been confirmed, meaning that people have been responsible and there have been no setbacks. I would like to say that as long as this continues with no setbacks, we are looking forward to PRINTING a July edition and being on the streets once again where we belong. (No jokes please — it’s the MAGAZINE that belongs on the streets; not the editor!) So, if you would like to be published in the first printed edition in July, please contact me on 664 210 468 or email: sales@thesentinella.com before 20th June. We look forward to helping the community again, distributing your businesses far and wide throughout Axarquia, and we would like to say a big thank you for all your support during this extremely trying time. We do hope that you have enjoyed all the editions we made online during the lockdown. If you didn’t get to read them, log onto www.thesentinella.com and click on online editions :)

Strange News but three of the adverts as the majority of businesses within this magazine will thankfully be re-opening in Phase 2. We would, however, recommend that you give the business a quick call if you are unsure if they have re-opened — just to be on the safe side and perhaps save yourself a wasted trip. More than ever, this is a time when if you do use a service advertised inside ‘The Sentinella,’ please inform a member of their team that they received the call or new business as a result of being found in our little magazine. It will greatly help both them and us! Thank you and we wish you all a successful and quick recovery. Now, all together: Happy days are here again!

Sure Shot? A mother-of-two believes that drinking smoothies with a shot of sperm have helped to boost her immune system and is helping prevent her from catching coronavirus. Tracy Kiss, 32, says she’s not had a cold or flu for three years because of her concoction, which is made using donations from her boyfriend. She takes three shots a week. Tracy, a personal trainer from Aylesbury, Bucks, said: ‘I found a free and vegan-friendly alternative method to boost the body’s immune system. You don’t always know what is in pharmaceutical medicine – it is much better for the body to drink something that doesn’t contain chemicals. ‘It isn’t much different to a mother breastfeeding her newborn to give them the nutrients they need. It isn’t for everyone but it is packed full of vitamins and I also put it on my face to clear up my skin.’ The remedy has not been verified by the World Health Organisation. Speedy exit As far as retirement gifts go, a ride in a £70 million fighter jet is surely one of the most memorable — especially if you activate the ejector seat part-way through the flight. A 64-year-old Frenchman was sent up in a Rafale-B at an airbase in Saint-Dizier, north western France, and as the plane started a sudden and rapid ascent, he gripped on for dear life… to the ejector seat lever. At 2,500ft, he shot out of the top of the plane, losing his helmet in the process, before landing with only minor injuries in a field near the German border. A report by the Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis in Paris also found that it was only by good fortune that the pilot had not been ejected too.

Strange News (Continued) Eelo eelo A Japanese aquarium closed during the coronavirus outbreak has asked people to make video calls to their eels so the sensitive creatures remember that humans exist and don’t pose a threat. The Sumida Aquarium, in the Tokyo Skytree tower, has been closed since the start of March and its animals have become used to a largely human-free environment since then. However a spokesman said: ‘Garden eels in particular now tend to disappear into the sand to hide every time the keepers pass by. That is causing difficulties in checking on their health.’ In a bid to reacquaint the eels with humans, the aquarium has set up five tablets facing their tank, with eel enthusiasts asked to connect through iPhones or iPads via a FaceTime app. People are asked to show their faces, wave and talk to the eels, but not to shout. The aquarium’s plea has attracted plenty of support, under the Japanese hashtag #PleaseRememberHumans. ‘When you gaze at the garden eels, the garden eels gaze at you,’aTwitter user wrote.
Seek and ye shall find Kind-hearted bin men rescued hundreds of pounds of birthday money with a ‘needle in a haystack’ operation. Refuse collectors in Yarm, North Yorkshire, hunted through huge piles of rubbish to locate the envelope containing £450. Keiahna Jackson had been celebrating her 18th birthday at home the day before the bins are collected in the area. She had been given the cash by friends and family, but the envelope had accidentally been thrown out with discarded wrapping paper. It had then been collected by Stockton Council’s refuse crew. Keiahna’s mother, Leanne Best, called the council for help. ‘They said they sympathised and would try — but they couldn’t promise anything. We really thought we had lost the money for good.’ But after hearing about the issue, the rubbish collectors began searching through the tip and remarkably, the bag containing the envelope was located. That same evening, the crew drove back to Leanne’s home to drop off the cash at her door – to rapturous applause from people on the street. Leanne said she could not express the gratitude they felt.

COVID-19 Is An AMAZING Virus!!!! Key features: - Cured influenza, measles, heart disease, cancers and most other diseases and abolished 'death from natural causes'... - It’s a smart virus, highly virulent in parks, gyms, churches and schools, and on beaches... - Has no effect on the thousands of employees who work at Kmart, BigW, Target, Bunnings, supermarkets.... and especially in liquor stores... - The virus seems to target mostly mum and dad businesses and barbershops, who always have much fewer customers walk through their doors... - The virus also targets our food chain, since it managed to close meat packing companies, and forced farmers to discard their harvest in record time... (USA) - Construction and supermarket workers have a natural immunity, but would obviously still need to be vaccinated... - Also, police uniforms hold the cure for the virus... no social distancing, not even masks are needed, as long as you wear a police uniform... - It doesn't affect children, except for a few who got it... same with animals... - Also, imposing mandatory cloth masks to prevent too much oxygen to people's brains, and spraying beaches and streets with bleach, as well as spraying chemical airborne disinfectants from airplanes over densely populated areas have been known to do miracles for people's lungs affected by this strange virus... - We would need millions of ventilators... unless we suddenly won't need any ventilators... - And we need to commandeer all private hospitals to keep them open solely for the avalanche of virus victims, and the avalanche of TikTok videos by overworked hero doctors and nurses... - Categorised as an 'invisible enemy', one
that can never be definitively beaten and always lurking in the shadows, much like the war on terror... - It loves New York too - a really cosmopolitain virus... - There is a Celebrity Strain, and a highly Deadly Strain of the virus... - Even more amazing, in Sweden you can hug your grandkids, yet the UK/SPAINISH etc strain forbids that... - In India alone, the killer virus managed to lock 1.3 billion people in their homes indefinitely, after decimating 1000 of them, within just a few short months... - Every loss of life from this virus is tragic... however, pushing 150-500 million people into starvation worldwide is a necessary price to pay... - Experts have pointed out that this seasonal virus could easily be defeated by forever abolishing families, individual privacy, untraceable cash money, and all small independent farms and businesses... - We all may have it by now, yet although asymptomatic, we can still infect people and test negative... or test positive... and our antibodies may, or may not give immunity... - Only a heavily government funded, hastily tested and mandatory vaccine can save us by injecting it in 7 billion people, every year, for a constantly mutating virus, the particular strain of which has long been history... - Also, be careful not to spread fake news or dangerous misinformation online about this virus... make sure you leave that to the professionals over at NBC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, BBC and the rest of the reliable mainstream media journalists around the world.

Wisdom ...From a scattering of military sources! “Blue water Navy truism: There are more planes in the ocean than submarines in the sky.” From an old carrier sailor “If the wings are travelling faster than the fuselage, it’s probably a helicopter - and therefore, unsafe.” “When one engine fails on a twin-engine airplane you always have enough power left to get you to the scene of the crash. “Without ammuition, the USAF would be just another expensive flying club.” “What is the similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots? If a pilot screws up, the pilot dies; If ATC screws up,... The pilot dies.” “Never trade luck for skill.” RETURNING TO THE UK AND NEED SOMEWHERE TO GO? THIS MAY BE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR! The three most common expressions (or famous last words) in aviation are: “Why is it doing that? Where are we? And “Oh S***!” “Progress in airline flying: now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant.” “Airspeed, altitude and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight.” “I remember when sex was safe and flying was dangerous.”

Random Jokes :) A mechanic was removing a cylinder-head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his bike when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?" The cardiologist, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up,
wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, repair any damage, and then put them back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I make a pretty small salary and you get the really big bucks when you and I are doing basically the same work?" The cardiologist paused, smiled and leaned over, then whispered to the mechanic... '' Try doing it with the engine running

Random Joke :) It was the day of the big sale. Rumours of the sale and some advertising in the local magazine were the main reason for the long queue that formed by 08.30am in front of the store. A small man pushed his way to the front of the queue, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colourful curses. On the man’s second attempt, he was punched square in the jaw, and knocked around a bit, and then thrown to the end of the line again. As he got up the second time, he said to the person at the end of the line, “That does it! If they hit me one more time, I don’t open the damn store!” ------------------------------------------------------------A highway patrolman pulled up alongside a speeding car on the freeway. As the officer peered through the driver’s window, he was astounded to find that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting. The trooper cranked down his window and yelled to the driver, “Pull over!” at the top of his lungs. “No!” the blonde yelled back, “Scarf!”

These are sipped at “locktail hour”, ie. wine o’clock during lockdown, which seems to be creeping earlier with each passing week. Blue Skype thinking A work brainstorming session which takes place over a videoconferencing app. Such meetings might also be termed a “Zoomposium”. Naturally, they are to be avoided if at all possible. Le Creuset wrist It’s the new “avocado hand” - an aching arm after taking one’s best saucepan outside to
bang during the weekly ‘Clap For Carers.’ It might be heavy but you’re keen to impress the neighbours with your high-quality kitchenware. Coronials As opposed to millennials, this refers to the future generation of babies conceived or born during coronavirus quarantine. Furlough Merlot Wine consumed in an attempt to relieve the frustration of not working. Also known as “bored-eaux” or “cabernet tedium”. Coronadose An overdose of bad news from consuming too much media during a time of crisis. Can result in a panicdemic. The elephant in the Zoom The glaring issue during a videoconferencing call that nobody feels able to mention. E.g. one participant has dramatically put on weight, suddenly sprouted terrible facial hair or has a worryingly messy house visible in the background.

Finally, the US dollar has benefited from an increase in demand for safe-haven currencies in light of the recent increase in tensions between China and the US.
Latest currency news The pound recently fell to a six-week low of €1.11 against the euro, while the GBP/USD exchange rate fluctuated between highs of $1.21 and lows of $1.20.
What do you need to look out for? Investors will continue focusing on the latest economic data in the weeks ahead, with signs that the Eurozone economy is recovering now that economies have reopened having the potential to bolster the euro.
What’s been happening? Brexit returned to the spotlight last week after the UK and the EU concluded their latest round of Brexit trade talks. Sterling stumbled after David Frost, Britain’s chief Brexit negotiator, said that the two sides had made ‘very little’ progress. Poor UK inflation data and bets that the Bank of England (BoE) could introduce negative interest rates have also weighed on the pound. Meanwhile, the euro struggled after Germany’s first-quarter GDP posted its
The UK lockdown will also be in the spotlight. If restrictions are eased further the pound could benefit. US-China trade developments will continue to drive the US dollar in the weeks ahead. Random Joke Mr. Tickle wanted to marry the girl of his dreams, however Tess was reluctant to take on his surname. ------------------------------------------------------------My wife said, “Can you explain why I’ve just found a pair of knickers in your coat pocket?” I said, “Yes, because you are a nosey cow!” ------------------------------------------------------------A robber walks into the bank and shouts, “Freeze, give me all your cash!” A brave customer pulls off the robber’s balaclava and says, “I’ve seen your face now!” So the robber shoots him. “Anyone else see my face?” the robber shouts. Then someone pipes up, “I think my wife caught a glimpse.” ------------------------------------------------------------Elderly couple in church. Wife turns round to husband and says, “I’ve just done a silent fart, what should I do? Husband says, “Put your batteries in your hearing aid!”

The humble radish may not be your obvious ‘go-to’ health food, but in addition to spicing up salads and a range of Indian dishes, it has an impressive range of physical benefits too. For instance, radish actually helps to cleanse our liver and stomach, thus detoxifying it; black radish and its leaves have been used for the longest time to treat jaundice because it can get rid of excess bilirubin and because of that particular property, it also helps to purify our blood. Radish keeps hypothyroidism in check too, thanks to its sulphur content. Radish is known to control damage to our red blood cells and in the process, this also increases oxygen supply to the blood. It is high in fibre, and if you eat radish as part of your daily salad intake, you can help provide your system with ample roughage and fibre which improves your digestion. It also regulates bile production, safeguards your liver and the gall bladder, and is great for taking care of water retention. Radishes are a good source for anthocyanins that keep our hearts functioning properly, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Plus they are high on vitamin C, folic acid, and flavonoids too. They provide your body with potassium which can help lower your blood pressure and keep your blood flow in control — especially if you are known to suffer from hypertension. They are also believed to have a cooling effect on the blood. Given that the radish has high vitamin C, it can protect you from the common cold and coughs, and can improve your basic immunity system — but you must consume it regularly. It also controls the development of harmful free radicals which can cause inflammation and early ageing. The humble radish plays an important role in
the generation of collagen, which in turn boosts our blood vessels and decreases our chances of getting atherosclerosis. It is good for the digestive system, and helps to fix acidity, obesity, gastric problems and nausea, among others. Red radishes are packed with Vitamins E, A, C, B6, and K. Plus they are high on antioxidants, fibre, zinc, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, copper, calcium, iron and manganese. Each of these is known to keep our body in good working condition. If you drink radish juice every day, you're giving your skin special boosters to stay healthy, and that's mostly because of the Vitamin C, zinc, and phosphorus. Plus it also keeps dryness, acne, pimples and rashes at bay. You can also use radish paste to cleanse your face, and if you apply it on your hair, it helps to remove dandruff, prevent hair loss and strengthens the roots too. Radishes are good for hydration. If you tend to eat them a little more in summer, it's probably because they keep the body hydrated because of their high water content.

Costa Animal Society News
Axarquia Animal Rescue
CAS shop open again! Hooray! The Costa Animal Society’s (CAS) charity shop is open again with great bargains on clothing, books, bric-a-brac, and many other surprises. Shop hours are from 10:00 14:00, Monday though Saturday. It is necessary that you wear a mask, and as of the time of writing we are allowing two people in at a time. For information regarding volunteering, feel free to contact shop manager May on 601 629 938.
AAR CHARITy SHOP Re-opened 25th May See below for new temporary opening days and times
Coronavirus While the tragedy of the Coronavirus remains in Spain, the Costa Animal Society (CAS) is, like all animal rescue groups, very limited in the help we can provide to the cats and dogs in our domain, Nerja/Maro, and desperately in need of donations. As CAS relies on four sources of income: memberships, our shop sales, events (unlikely anytime soon) and donations we need help now that we have endured all of the expenses of quarantine for the animals in our care with very little income. If you could donate a little to help the animals, CAS would be most grateful. Details. For bank transfers: Bank: Cajamar Account Name: Costa Animal Society Account Number: 3058 0728 03 2720100283 BIC-Swift Code: CCRIES2A PayPal donations are also accepted through our website www.casnerja.webs.com, under the “Donate” tab. Can you help CAS? The Costa Animal Society (CAS) is always in need of more volunteer helpers in a number of areas so if you have spare time to fill, please make contact! In particular, we are currently seeking someone or ones who can help with fundraising and social media promotion. In addition, fosterers are always required to take short-term care of animals until a permanent home can be found. CAS will provide fosterers with all they need: food, medicine, bedding, leads, etc., as well as advice at any time. Even if you are only here for few months a year, CAS would appreciate your help.
Thank you for your continued support!

Random Jokes :)
This month we look at the D’s. Keep your eyes peeled for reasons why you should be eating Eggs, Elderberries and Endives, in the July issue.
Three dead bodies turn up at the mortuary, all with very big smiles on their faces. The Coroner calls the Police to tell them what has happened..??? “First Body - Pierre Dubois, Frenchman, 60, died of heart failure while making love to his 20-year old mistress. Hence the enormous smile, Inspector,” says the Coroner. “Second Body- Hamish Campbell, Scotsman, 25, won £50,000 on the lottery, spent it all on whisky. Died of alcohol poisoning, hence the smile.” The Police Inspector asked, “What about the third body..???” “Ahh ha,” says the Coroner, “This is the most unusual one. Paddy Murphy, Irish, 30, struck by lightning.” “Why is he smiling then?’”inquires the Inspector. “Cos, he thought he was having his picture taken.” ------------------------------------------------------------Q: What do you call a blind Elk? A: No idea ------------------------------------------------------------Q: What do you call a blind Elk with no legs? A: Still no idea
Dried Fruit - A perfect snack substitute for fattening crisps, peanuts or chocolate. There is a wide range of dried fruit available, from raisins and dates to bananas and mangoes. They are a super energy booster and they are full of iron, potassium, selenium, fibre and vitamin A.
Dandelion - This is actually a weed - the one where at certain times of the year as a child you no doubt blew and watched the parachutes fall to the ground. The leaves of the dandelion can be eaten in salads and can be used as a remedy for high blood pressure. The root is known as a detoxifying herb and has a potent cleansing action on the liver, while also helping the kidneys to remove toxins in the urine. Dill - Chewing the seeds of dill will clear up bad breath, stop flatulence and strengthen brittle nails. The oil of dill seed can be used to aid digestion. To relieve insomnia brew up an infusion of two parts dill seed, two parts anise seed to one part camomile flowers, steeped in boiling water and drunk, sweetened with a little honey, just before bedtime. Then you’ll be in the land of nod in no time! Enjoy eating the D’s!

s Now erland b e l Ce en & ld Suth Th Dona Canadian actor Donald Sutherland — his real name — was born on July 17, 1935, in New Brunswick, Canada, of Scottish, German and English ancestry. He obtained his first part-time job at the age of 14 as a news correspondent for local radio station CKBW, and after High School, he studied at the University of Toronto. He graduated with a double major in engineering and drama, opting to follow the latter as his career. Since then, he has appeared in more than 200 different shows, plays and films. Between 1958 and 1960, Sutherland studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), then spent 18 months at the Perth Repertory Theatre, Scotland. His first bit-part appearances in films included Dr Terror's House of Horrors (1965) which starred Christopher Lee, and he also appeared in episodes of TV shows such as "The Saint" and "Court Martial". Sutherland's big break came in 1967, when he was a last-minute replacement to play the dopey but loyal Vernon Pinkley in the English-filmed war film, The Dirty Dozen, which also starred Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson and Telly Savalas. The film was an instant success, prompting Sutherland to leave London to live in Hollywood. There, in 1970, he landed a starring role as "Hawkeye" Pierce in Robert Altman's MASH in 1970 and another as hippie tank commander "Oddball" in Kelly's Heroes. These launched the-then 35-year-old firmly on the path to the big time. Sutherland found himself as a leading man throughout the 1970s in films such as Klute (1971), the film which made Jane Fonda a
star and won her an Oscar; the Venice-based psychological horror film Don't Look Now (1973), co-starring Julie Christie, a role which saw him nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor; the war film The Eagle Has Landed (1976); Federico Fellini's Casanova (1976) and the thriller Eye of the Needle, which was filmed on location on the Isle of Mull, West Scotland. Sutherland also starred as a marijuana-smoking university professor in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978). His next big success came in the Oliver Stone film JFK (1991), where he played the chilling role of Mister X, an anonymous source who gives crucial information about the politics surrounding President Kennedy. The new millennium saw him reunited with such former collaborators as Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones in Space Cowboys (2000). He also appeared as the father figure to Nicole Kidman's character in Cold Mountain (2003) and Charlize Theron's character in the remake of the The Italian Job (2003). More recently, he joined forces with his son Rossif Sutherland and Canadian comic Russell Peters in the comedy The Con Artist (2010), as well as acting alongside Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum in the sword-and-sandal film The Eagle (2011). Sutherland — who dated actress Jane Fonda from 1970 to 1972 — has been married three times. His first wife was Lois Hardwick, from 1959 to 1996; then came Shirley Douglas — the mother of Kiefer — from 1996 to 1970 and finally Francine Racette, whom he married in 1972 and is still with today. They live in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. Sutherland provided voice-overs and narration for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and was also one of the Olympic flag bearers.

Noel was spotted cycling near his £8million country pile in early April, but was snapped leaving his city home three weeks later. He has shrugged off the criticism, however, and says “bike rides and red wine” are getting him through isolation. “Oh, it’s amazing,” he says. “It’s a stay-at-home kinda thing, isn’t it? And red wine is the perfect lockdown beverage.” Mean Genee American TV presenter Ellen DeGeneres has been hit by further claims of being “mean” behind the scenes, after she was branded the “meanest person alive”. The 62-year-old comedienne has been hit by further criticism after fans shared scathing stories about her in a recent Twitter thread. A source, who used to work alongside Ellen, has now reportedly confirmed the rumours. They have now told the New York Post: “The stories are all true!” The insider added: “Is she always nice? No. It irritates me that people think she’s all sweetness and light, and she gets away with it.” The criticism kicked off after comedian Kevin T Porter requested “insane stories” about “Ellen being mean” in exchange for a donation of $2 to the Los Angeles Food Bank per tale on Twitter. He tweeted: “Right now we all need a little kindness — you know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about, but she’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive.” Kevin was then inundated with stories on his Twitter thread and amassed more than 68,000 likes and 12,000 retweets on his original post. Lockdown baffles Barbara Dame Barbara Windsor has been left “confused” by the coronavirus lockdown, it has been revealed. The much-loved 82-year-old EastEnders icon, who played Peggy Mitchell on the soap, suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is used

to having a stream of friends and family come to visit her. The lockdown has meant her nearest and dearest are no longer able to see her, and one of her close friends, Christopher Biggins, 71, has opened up about how this has affected the soap star. Christopher Biggins told The Sun: “She’s asking why people have stopped coming to see her. “Sadly, she just forgets the explanation and she asks all the time, so it’s a frustrating time for both her and her husband Scott.” Barbara was diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2014, four years after her character Peggy left EastEnders’ Albert Square. Despite her diagnosis, the blonde actress returned to the soap for special one-off episodes from 2013 to 2016. Wealthy Walsh The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh has quickly become one of TV’s best-paid stars and now, according to Celebrity Net Worth, he has just under £7 million in the bank. The 59-year-old has appeared on various shows across the years from Coronation Street to Doctor Who and, more recently, Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad, which sees the star travelling with his 22-year-old son Barney. The Sun reported in 2018 that the star had earned £9.2 million in two years, but the Daily Star recently revealed that the latest accounts from Bradley’s firm, Wingit Productions, had put his earnings up a casual £2 million. Bradley left school at 16 and worked as an apprentice jet engineer at Rolls Royce in Watford, before becoming a professional footballer for Brentford. After a series of ankle factures ended his footballing hopes, Bradley — who has been married to wife Donna Derby since 1997 — went on to work as a bluecoat at Pontins in Morecombe. After being spotted by a talent scout, his television career took off in 1997 as he obtained the role of host on The Wheel Of Fortune before becoming a Coronation Street regular, playing the role of Danny Baldwin from 2004 until 2006.

Being forced into lockdown has been a test to the best of us and having restrictions imposed on us has lead to anxiety, worry and fear. I felt all these emotions initially but being a “silver lining kind of girl, I pulled myself out of the doom and started to look at the benefits of isolation. This article is one about making lemonade out of lemons!! So let us focus on what we have gained in the last couple of months, rather than what we have lost.

Health First is exercise. I find it brilliant that a majority of people are walking and running; doing body coach, yoga and pilates etc. far more than before. Second is nutrition. With access to fast and convenient food being limited, we have become our own personal chefs. Time allows us to be more creative with the ingredients available in our pantries. Making Lemonade Out Of Lemons you could create. People I know, who have never baked before, have become artists in the kitchen! I haven´t quite made lemonade out of lemons, I did however impress myself by making lemon curd! Also I have become aware of the food we used to waste, throwing away leftovers for a whole different dinner the next day. Now from one roast chicken we are able to make three or four substantial meals. This brings me to my next point, money.
Relationships With nothing but time on our hands I have reconnected with old friends and family and cemented the relationships I already had (even with my husband!). I have enjoyed having such quality time with my daughter, I have always known she was an amazing human being but with the stresses of work and the rest of the world, I have sometimes been distracted from enjoying what a funny, creative, imaginative, insightful, caring and beautiful little girl she is (if not a little frustrating sometimes!). Now the mornings are not rushed and frantic, they are loving and cuddly!
Finance At first we all were in panic that we were not able to earn any money in lock down. Although we all need to get back to work, the upside is it has made me so aware of the unnecessary spending we were doing. I now look at things and evaluate whether we need it or just want it, I hope this new attitude continues even when the restrictions on working are lifted.
So before we all rush back into the rat race let us try and take the positives from the last couple of months. I, myself, am determined to use this experience as a lesson on slowing down and remembering what really is important...family, friends, health and happiness. Strange Times... (Continued) Light at the end of the tunnel? Over the last two months I have written in my mini articles about the subject no one can stop talking about for logical reasons, the Covid19 crisis. Many businesses have been hit very hard, and ours included. Now, as there appears to be some sort of gradual return to normality, we are hopeful that things may get back to a ‘new normality’. And we have been inundated with enquiries, as have many other agencies. Everyone appears to be desperate to get over to Spain and snap up their little piece of the Andalusian countryside, and many clients are now Spanish, looking for a place to escape to “before the second lockdown”! We are finally able to take on new properties and after the gap in activity, we are keen to take on new country and village houses, to respond to our growing enquiries. So many people have asked me how this crisis compares to that of the economic downturn of 2008. I believe they are very
different indeed. In 2008, the crash was colossal, and people all over the world found themselves crippled by debt. This crisis has happened at a time of relative prosperity, and shows signs that, if and when we have a vaccine, the bounce-back will be rapid and positive. The signs are already there, with so many enquiries flowing in, and a real desire on the part of potential buyers, to come over with money in their pockets! So a very different situation. I am hopeful the recovery will be swifter by far this time around. We look forward to talking to you if you have a property to put on the market, and we are carrying out visits to list properties and to show properties respecting all the safety and hygiene rules. As a new norm, we will be uploading walk-through videos of as many properties as possible. So do get it touch. Wishing everyone a safe walk out of that dark tunnel! Coronaspeak Well it’s been a strange two and a half months to say the least, hasn’t it? As we emerge from our apartments, townhouses, villas and camper vans out of our enforced hibernation we now face the ‘new normal’ whatever that might be or mean. This is something else the pandemic has brought us: a great array of new expressions and vocabulary which we now use liberally in our 2m distanced chats to show we are aware of what has been happening to us during the whole of spring. Truth is, I’m not entirely sure I know what has been going on or why but I do have a whole new language from the experience. This has superseded my former new language of the UK leaving the EU. Goodbye Brexit, Brexiteer, Bremainer, Bremoaner and welcome to Scamdemic, social distancing and Covidiot. Here are a few of my favourites and what they mean to me. Whether they’ll last much past the pandemic remains to be seen. Lockdown or quarantine? Lockdown is so much more powerful than quarantine, which has such a gentler tone. The Spanish only tend to use cuarentena which almost sounds like a dance to me. Well, I suppose Covid-19 has lead us in a merry dance. Lockdown sounds dramatic. It’s recent origins are in the language of prison and captivity. However, a lock-down used to simply be a peg holding wood in place, allowing a raft to float freely downstream. How ironic is that? The language of insults Are you or have you ever been a Covidiot? Even Spanish has its equivalents with ‘ covidiota’ and ‘coronaburro’: ‘burro’ being the word for donkey. Or were you a morona? These are the people who have shown scant regard for the rules of lockdown, have flooded beaches and parks, said no to the mask and been irresponsible. They firmly believe that the whole world has been brought to the brink of recession by something no bigger than the annual flu or common cold. They dispute every fact and
figure with numbers of their own. A year ago, they were Eurosceptics, now they see this whole Covid thing as a scamdemic. Welcome to the online party For those of us who accepted our confinement, quarantine brought us a whole new way to socialise. We started to make locktails and joined social media groups where we happily posted our attempts to feed ourselves and family members. Restaurants and takeaways were places of danger and closed until further notice. Supermarkets required a planned and timetabled strategy which might include bleaching your purchases once safely back home. No wonder, we marvelled at our homemade menus. After WFH (work from home), there was the need to quarantine and chill, with a virtual happy hour (or more). We attended covideo parties zooming in our PJs and slippers, like some weird sleepover. We were never quite sure when these were as we’d all entered a state of blursday and often had to check our phones or ask Alexa what time or day it was. People started dating using highly popular chat rooms only to be unceremoniously zumped soon after. Will lawyers make a mint from the covidivorces filed in summer: who knows? New normal Well guys we did it! We’ve got through coronageddon. We flattened the curve, though looking at my current state, I’d dispute that. I think I’ve been a victim of Coronaspeck (as it’s called in Germany) as I’ve snacked my way through a pandemic. Anyway, I’m off to make, what I hope will be, one of my last quarantinis or coronitas. See you all after covexit in July. Written by Grimble

Wines Worth Locating: HIRSCHMUGL Austrian cuisine is now available and very much enjoyed, globally. The popularity of wines, produced in Austria, is now recognised and acknowledged around the world. Many have received awards, at prestigious competitions and events, in Austria and other countries, worldwide.
the range of wines produced by the Hirschmugl winery are some from “PiWi” grape varieties. These “PiWi” varieties have a high, natural fungus resistance. Constantly striving to expand on skills and knowledge, Hirschmugl produces superb wines to a high standard, whilst maintaining traditions. Decto Rosso is a wonderful brut wine. This
Weingut Hirschmugl is located in Styria, at Domaene am Seggauberg. The non-poisonous adder snake is incorporated in the company’s logo, as they are considered an indicator of a healthy environment. Grape varieties grown include Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Traminer, Muscaris, Cabernet Blanc and Cabertin. Wines produced are classified as Styrian Drinking Pleasure, Nobilis – utilising grapes from the best locations in the vineyards, Aurum – produced in limited quantities and aged, plus Sparkling wine, which is only produced during exceptional years and Natural wine.

The combinations of soil minerals, plus climate (which includes warm days and cool nights), with much knowledge, expertise and devotion, of course, ultimately come together to produce outstanding (not a word I use lightly) wines. The winery is in an area of ancient woodlands. The Domaene Hirschmugl team works in harmony with nature – a philosophy equally as important today as it was at the outset. Included in
bubbles and a really pleasant, fruity bouquet. An elegant wine and a great appetiser, too. Cabernet Blanc I found aromatic and with a very good mouthfeel and palate sensation. Their Chardonnay and Chardonnay Nobilis (aged), with intense, full-bodied, long palates, are regular selections, for many. Muscaris has numerous ‘devotees’, also. Dry, aromatic and with a full body, this graces many dining occasions, constantly. RWC is aged and very popular. The deep, red colour, is appreciated and extended, for bouquet, plus great pleasures on the mouth and palate. The wine bottles are eye-catching and impressively adorned with logo and labelling. Other productions include splendid fruit vinegars, grape pit oil, plus grape pit flour and honey. For all details, www.hirschmugl-domaene.at

s e p o c s o Hor by Juanita Banana of Banana Moon www.AbsoluteAxarquia.com ARIES: March 21-April 20 June is full of ups and downs - how you handle each one will determine its importance. Late on the 6th, you’re happy to revisit your comfort zone, and make yourself at home there through to the 18th, whilst the power of positive thinking unfolds around you. Friends rally around to support your efforts TAURUS: April 21-May 21 The fulfillment and satisfaction of the 5th are temporary, as the following day you understand that you missed the boat. By the 8th you have opportunity to accept some good advice so, by the 9th, you can mend your ways, grab the necessary tools and get to work. You have until the 20th to make something of yourself! GEMINI: May 22-June 21 Desire and imagination try to run away with you, but you still have control. There’s a road that can’t be taken yet, instead seek the book or conversation that could change your life. You’re close to what makes you happy and the rest is up to you CANCER: June 22-July 22 Everyone accepts you for who you are and currently they expect great things from you! You feel the pressure of living up to your potential, especially between the 3rd and 8th, but it’s stimulating and, in the longer term, will bring rewards. Work with instinct instead of preconceived notions LEO: July 23-August 23 Unusual, even strange, opportunities are within your reach from the 5th to 8th – grab them. Loved ones back themselves into corners mid-month - don’t be tempted to follow their lead and negate your own extensive capabilities and accomplishments. Take on passengers, trainees and tenants after the 17th VIRGO: August 24-September 22 The rules are changing daily with the week of the 7th to 13th particularly confusing. You’ve had to stray from the original plan but your true friends and colleagues are still with you. By the 10th you’ve done a U-turn, surprising even yourself.
The cycle is starting over, values being reassigned with you positioned to benefit LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 Leftovers from your recent goal still retain some magical charge - cut your losses and pocket the last of your spoils, your slate is now clean. Enjoy the gift of extra time before freedom brings panic. Make a loving gesture to someone that matters and enjoy the weekend of the 26th SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 It’s your time to be larger than life with a nod toward the perfectionism that some say you lack. Your fuse is short on the 7th and 8th, so change the rules and turn the tables on the 9th and 10th for an intensive and memorable week. The war of nerves will be over by the 14th SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 Celebrate as dreams come true through careful planning and good luck. Familiar faces drift back into your life, some welcome and others a little painful to behold. After the 25th you won’t have to kowtow to anyone as June’s last obstacles step out of your way CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Thanks to optimism buoying your spirits, your sense of purpose is strong all month. You are whatever you engineer. By the 11th you should be recording all that you’ve done and practiced. A desire for adventure will sidetrack you on the weekend of the 12th – try to be practical AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 Not historically keen on afternoons, but you’re learning to love this time of day as your world changes for the better and magic runs without a hitch. During this phase you’re a joiner, not a loner, inspired, a little irresponsible and everyone loves you for it. Priorities shift on the 10th, reshaping goals for the next five months PISCES: February 20 - March 20 The first few days of June are challenging as you yearn for some fun yet keep coming back to the list of things you should be doing. Compromise a little and give yourself credit for trying. There’s no reason to be ashamed of your goals and remember the power of love is your biggest ally
