For their Lexington nuptials, the bride wore a lacy Justin Alexander gown with a champagne sash. Her bouquet was topped with a vintage WWII sweetheart airplane brooch and a red “remove before flight” tag on her garter–a safety flight warning commonly seen on removable aircraft components, and a silly note that fit their theme beautifully. The groom and best man wore dark gray suits with black ties and vests. Vanessa embroidered a heart with the words “I love you” and the wedding date on the back of Cameron’s tie. He also wore biplane cufflinks and a propeller tie tack on his boutonniere, both gifts from his bride.

The couple loves period architecture and Vanessa hoped to incorporate a vintage-elegance feel into the big day; The Carrick House offered all this and more. Guests were welcomed into the venue by a square wreath with a white script monogram cutout. Vanessa and Cameron’s aviation-themed engagement photos hung on the end of each chair row, facing the aisle. Each chair was adorned with a pink sash and the program, which was designed to look like a passport. Volare String Quartet played before and during the ceremony. A vase of flowers was set in a chair in the front row, in honor of the bride’s father, who passed away earlier that year. Guests moved into the reception area of The Carrick House to celebrate the union. A wooden propeller served as the guestbook, which sat alongside Cameron’s favorite childhood airplane toys, including a wooden red plane made for him by his grandfather. A globe stood next to the seating chart, which was titled, “Where in the World Will You Be Sitting?” Place cards were mini paper airplanes with guests’ names printed on each while the table numbers were vintage aviation or map themed. The décor capitalized on both the vintage-elegance and the aviation theme. Tables were topped with centerpieces featuring silver candelabras with dangling crystals or glass flutes filled with pearls and yellow, pink and white flower arrangements. Tea lights were wrapped with lace and scattered about the room. Photos of the couple stood on many tables, as well as cards with personal anecdotes or quotes that were meaningful to Vanessa and Cameron. Cameron hand-folded over 100 paper airplanes, which guests flew to send off the bride and groom. As they hopped inside a vintage Bentley, he teared up and thanked his bride for helping him share their big day with the people who meant so much to them both.

ith the beauty of Lexington in autumn, the bride’s stunning lace dress, the incredible venues and all of the carefully-chosen details, it’s only natural that this wedding–held the weekend before Halloween–would make for some incredible photos. For Amy and Jonathan, however, the day was about celebrating a love they feel blessed to share. The pair met through mutual friends while attending the University of Kentucky. Jonathan, who grew up in Owensboro, had asked Amy out several times. She eventually relented, since he seemed like a nice guy. Amy, a native of Lexington, says that the rest is history. When the engagement ring came, Jonathan was so eager to propose, he popped the question within a few hours of getting the ring–in spite of having a more elaborate proposal planned.

On the morning of their big day, the couple planned to have a “First Look” before the ceremony. Amy remembers looking down from the window of her dressing room at Spindletop Hall and seeing her groom for the first time. He was standing with his hands in his pockets, staring at the front door in anticipation of seeing his bride. She says time stood still for her in that moment. She still cherishes the memory of seeing his face when she finally stepped through that doorway. Amy wore a lace Enzoani gown with a custom-made top and a Vera Wang sash. Her bouquet carried lockets with photos of the groom, her parent’s wedding and her grandparent’s wedding. Also included was a locket with a photo of their dog. One of the bridesmaids was missing from the wedding party–she went into labor during the couple’s rehearsal dinner! While getting dressed, Amy got a text that included a photo of the newborn, and she and her bridesmaids cooed and cried about the special moment. The remaining bridesmaids wore different floor-length chiffon dresses in a blush hue.

Since their wedding was held the Saturday before Halloween, Amy and Jonathan encouraged their wedding party to bring a mask to add to the fun!
Amy and Jonathan felt it was important to hold their ceremony in a church, and chose to be married inside St. Peter Catholic Church. The altar was decorated with the favorite flowers of family members who weren’t able to be at the wedding, and bore candles to honor the memory of each person. Amy walked down the aisle to “Prince of Denmarck’s March” by Jeremiah Clark, played by a family friend on the organ. During the Asking of Mary’s Blessing, “Ave Maria” was sung. Father Gino of their home parish, Christ the King, officiated the ceremony. As guests arrived at Spindletop Hall for the reception, they were greeted with flutes of champagne with rock candy swizzle sticks that had flags reading, “Love is Sweet”. They enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and music played by a saxophone and piano duet. Jonathan and Amy shared their first dance on the veranda to a remake of “Heaven” by Bryan Adams. The couple was serenaded by Jonathan’s father, who sang his own version of Eric Church’s “Springsteen”, a song he says reminded him of the couple (though they’re not sure how.) The reception décor was minimal, allowing the venue to speak for itself. Additional touches kept with the traditional theme of Spindletop Hall’s interiors. House created unique flower arrangements for each table and little gold accents were everywhere. Guests’ favors were homemade raspberry jam made by Amy’s mother, who came up with the idea because the groom’s intials are JAM. Instead of a groom’s cake, the couple had traveled an hour and a half to an Amish community in Preachersville to get 300 custom-baked miniature pies, each of the several flavors with a unique name, like “APPLE of My Eye Pie” or “I Love You BERRY Much Pie”.

The First DANCE I
magine your wedding day, surrounded by family and friends watching as you share your first dance. At Arthur Murray Dance Studios, their goal is to make it easy for couples to share their first moments as man and wife. You have all of your life to remember this moment. At the end of the day, you remember what you take home. Likely, 20 years down the road you will take out a video and experience that moment all over again. Traditionally, the most popular dances are slow dances, but it has become common for couples to incorporate faster songs into their first dance. More and more people are interested in hybrid dances, which start out fast and end slow, or vice versa. It creates a much different experience. The first dance is an important moment, and couples are often nervous. Fear should not prevent you from enjoying your special moment. The biggest fear couples have is that they will not be able to learn. Arthur Murray instructors put students at ease. The hardest part is walking through the door, the rest is easy. Once couples get out on the floor, they think it’s great. Arthur Murray studios recommends starting lessons 3–8 months before your wedding, but they will help meet your needs regardless of the timeframe. The first step a couple should take is starting private lessons. It gives couples their own stress-free place. Lessons start by choreographing the first dance, and the instructor can also help choreograph other dances, such as the father-daughter dance. After private lessons, couples are encouraged to transition into group lessons. Arthur Murray Studios have taught over 10,000 couples to dance, and the Lexington studio is one of the Top 10 in the world. Instructor Hunter Lisle strives to make couples feel comfortable dancing on their big day. His favorite part of working with couples is seeing their faces, smiling ear to ear, when it is all said and done.

Ashley’s father passed away a year before the wedding and their wedding date was a day before what would’ve been her parents’ 40th anniversary. The wedding held several details to honor his memory. Ashley gave the groom a lapel pin made of her father’s thumbprint, which Nathan wore. A yellow ribbon–his favorite color–was cut in half at his funeral; he was buried with half, and Ashley kept the other half. She wrapped the ribbon around her bouquet and had a yellow rose incorporated into the center. A friend painted a portrait of him wearing a tuxedo with his yellow ribbon in hand, as if he were watching the ceremony from above.

The aisle was laid with a custom runner with an ombre effect and the text of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Lush rose petals from fushia to white were scattered at the edges leading up to the altar. The bride’s twin sister, who was born with cerebral palsy, wore a white wedding dress to escort Ashley down the aisle and give her away. Their minister, a family friend, officiated the ceremony. The couple loved “Canon in D” and “How Beautiful” by Twila Paris, and couldn’t decide between the two songs for their ceremony. A composer arranged the two seamlessly together and The Louisville Strings played it for the couple. When it came time for the big kiss, Nathan swung his bride around and dipped her down, catching her by surprise. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour featuring a Kentucky theme. Bourbon barrel cocktail tables were adorned with burlap overlaps and mint julep centerpieces accented with horseshoes and candles. Guests signed a bourbon barrel head converted into a lazy susan and enjoyed miniature Kentucky Hot Browns, the hotel’s signature dish.

The reception was held inside The Crystal Ballroom. Tables were covered with ivory linens, accented with a beautiful gold overlay. The tables were set with gold chargers, pink napkins, rhinestone table numbers and votives. Beautiful, oversized centerpieces were garnished with crystals to match the ballroom’s signature chandelier. Gold containers bore a lush assortment of roses, hydrangeas, orchids and calla lilies. The head table featured five glass pillars with dramatic ombre florals. The moment the reception band began to play, the dance floor was full and stayed busy for hours. When Ashley and Nathan retired to their honeymoon suite, the majority of guests continued the celebration at Louisville’s Fourth Street Live.

Confident
Strides Down
the Aisle When you walk down the aisle, all eyes will be on you. In that moment, will you look and feel radiantly beautiful and confident? It’s natural to worry about how your wedding gown fits your body, as well as how your body fits in your wedding gown. If you have been considering breast enhancement surgery, opting to do so before your wedding ensures that you have the appearance you have always desired on one of the most memorable–and most photographed–days of your life. For brides who want to fill out a strapless dress without wearing a padded bra–or even any bra at all–breast augmentation may be the perfect solution. Breast enhancement gives a bride the added confidence that her bra isn’t slipping out of her dress all night. It also offers brides the knowledge that they won’t look back on their wedding photos in 10 years and wish their dresses had fit better. There are a number of reasons for considering breast augmentation. First, many brides simply wish to enhance their body shape and gain the confidence of a fuller bust line. Some women want to regain their prepregnancy bust volume. Many women consider breast surgery to equalize a difference in cup size and to gain symmetry. Breast augmentation is a wonderful option to help women regain their confidence following a mastectomy or injury. When should you consider breast surgery during your wedding planning process? It would be ideal to have the procedure before you make your final dress decision to ensure that you choose the right silhouette to compliment your new look. At minimum, leave one month’s time between the procedure and the big day. This will give the area time to heal so you feel comfortable, beautiful and confident–whether dancing at the reception or sporting a bikini on your honeymoon. Choosing breast augmentation is a big decision. If you have been considering this procedure for some time, now may be the perfect moment for your bridal makeover!

T
he bridal gown trends for 2015 are going to bring forth a different look for weddings than ever before. While the past few years focused on classic silhouettes and traditional lace, Twirl Bridal Boutique and today’s brides are seeing new trends emerge from New York Bridal Fashion Week. Interesting backs – Beaded, plunging, ornate, sultry. The more detail the better. Brides want to make their walk down the aisle memorable.

Lots of sparkle – While the past few years have focused on simplicity and classic elegance, 2015 will sparkle with dresses encrusted and dripping in crystals, pearls and beads. Again, the more bling, the better! Ball Gown Silhouettes – The classic ball gown is making a comeback after a few years of more fitted dresses. The result is an enchanting look that will make any bride feel like a princess. If it sparkles…even better! Unique headpieces – Veils are still a staple headpiece for brides, but some are choosing to mix it up a bit by adding a more interest with a Gatsby-inspired headband or unexpected hair wrap. Craving color – Brides are thinking beyond ivory and white. Designers are getting creative and brides are loving it. Colors such as moscato, latte, gold, and sherbet are making their way into mainstream bridal lines. These colors can add an oh-so subtle splash to a very traditional gown without being too over the top.
A word about lace – Lace has been quite popular the past few years…it is classic and will always be in style. Just because new trends are emerging does not mean lace is going out of style.
Boho Chic – Even though sparkle and big ball gowns are making a comeback, the casual, unique bride who wants to be different has some incredible options. Look out for dresses with delicate details, handkerchief layered skirts, flower crowns and chic headbands! by Ty McBrayer Owner at Twirl

They chose to have their wedding at the Griffin Gate Marriott, both for its beauty and its kind, helpful staff. Anupa wanted the wedding ceremony to blend Eastern and Western cultures, both to embrace her family’s Indian heritage as well as their roots in the United States. This meant including many traditional Indian ceremonies and customs, as well as Western marriage customs. Before the wedding, Anupa and her friends and family participated in a mehndi ceremony, a centuries-old tradition in which henna is applied to the bride’s hands and feet. The colorful, musical, and lively celebration was decorated with pink, orange, and yellow Gerber daisies and balloons. Anupa’s intricate mehndi application took over 20 hours to complete! The design included the groom’s initial, which he later had to find.

Emily and Cory kept the food casual, choosing pulled pork and chicken barbeque. In lieu of a cake, the couple opted to have cupcakes and a single “top tier” cake with a burlap bunting sign reading “Just Married”. UNIQUE B O U Q U E T S by Marsha Koller

ouquets are the unsung heroes of the bride’s attire. Gowns get all the attention, but bridal bouquets help tie the dress into the celebration and allow the bride a touch of colorful personalization. Adding unique elements into your bouquet can help infuse your look with personality while complimenting your theme beautifully. Consider some of these unique bouquet add-ins to create a bouquet that’s perfect for your big day. Succulents A very new trend for brides who feel that fluff and flowers are just not “them” is to opt for using succulents as your botanical choice—a more unusual form of live greens that still conform nicely for bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. Succulents, a relative of cacti , is a more architectural form of live plants that range in color from a variety of green hues to green tinged in red or yellow. Paper Perfect You can make stunning folded flowers out of paper, achieving a floral design that will last. Paper flowers can range in design from ultra elegant with a near live look to whimsical, even made out of printed pages like vintage books or maps. This is a great option for burlap and lace weddings. Brooch and Button Bouquets If you or family members have a great collection of vintage brooches, creatively put them together as a wedding bouquet. A great idea is to have each of the members of your wedding party and friends gift you with a brooch, either from their family collections or as found objects, and build a memorable beautiful bouquet with them. Buttons can also make a unique statement, be it playful or antique. Shells for the Beach Buff If you are having a beach or lake wedding, what’s more perfect than seashells, alone or mixed with tropical greens? Careful, don’t make these too big or they will be heavy! Even if you aren’t marrying beside the water but have a connection to the ocean, this is a sweet alternative bouquet look.

Before the ceremony, the photographer arranged a “First Look” between the bride and her father. She says she’ll never forget the moment or the look on his face. Together, they arrived to the ceremony in a white horse-drawn carriage. Her uncle officiated the ceremony and she says Andrew’s vows were so beautiful, she forgot the first lines of her own! The bride and groom’s brothers sang “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz. The bride and groom exited on the carriage. The horse didn’t want to stand still, so Devon says Andrew had to–more or less–throw her onto the runaway carriage. It was a funny moment that the couple and their loved ones shared a hearty laugh over. Following the nuptials, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres under the twinkling lights inside the Keene Barn. A game of horseshoes was set up outside. Children delighted in petting a miniature pony while their parents sipped the couple’s signature drinks, the “Mint to Be” Julep and “Berry Happy Together” cocktail. The place settings featured elegant china, contrasted with whimsical place cards. The table runners, sewn by the bride’s mother, were bright green and edged with pink and green ribbon for a charming touch. Pink and green flowers in white trophy vases adorned the tables. The cake featured lace piping and fresh florals for an elegant touch. Guests fox trotted the night away under pink and green paper lanterns. Devon felt truly blessed–not just to be married to her best friend, but to be surrounded and supported by such wonderful family and friends.
