Arthur Murray Dance Studio I
magine your wedding day, surrounded by family and friends watching as you share your first dance. At Arthur Murray Dance Studio, their goal is to make it easy for couples to share their first moments as man and wife. You have all of your life to remember this moment. At the end of the day, you remember what you take home. Likely, 20 years down the road you will take out a video and experience that moment all over again. Traditionally, the most popular dances are slow dances, but it has become common for couples to incorporate faster songs into their first dance. More and more people are interested in hybrid dances, which start out fast and end slow, or vice versa. It creates a much different experience. The first dance is an important moment, and couples are often nervous. Fear should not prevent you from enjoying your special moment. The biggest fear couples have is that they will not be able to learn. Arthur Murray instructors put students at ease. The hardest part is walking through the door, the rest is easy. Once couples get out on the floor, they think it’s great. Arthur Murray Dance studio recommends starting lessons 3–8 months before your wedding, but they will help meet your needs regardless of the timeframe. The first step a couple should take is starting private lessons. It gives couples their own stress-free place. Lessons start by choreographing the first dance, and the instructor can also help choreograph other dances, such as the father-daughter dance. After private lessons, couples are encouraged to transition into group lessons. Arthur Murray Studios have taught over 10,000 couples to dance, and the Lexington studio is one of the Top 10 in the world. Instructor Hunter Lisle strives to make couples feel comfortable dancing on their big day. His favorite part of working with couples is seeing their faces, smiling ear to ear, when it is all said and done.

BROOKE & DREW november seventh Brooke first noticed Drew while he was playing baseball for the Cincinnati Reds. The couple first met in the summer of 2012 during a night out with friends in Cincinnati. They remained friends until September when they met in Pittsburg for their first date. A year and a half later, Drew was ready to pop the question. He took Brooke to her favorite restaurant, Dudley’s, for an early Valentine’s dinner. He had champagne and roses brought to the table. As soon as they sat down, Drew asked for her hand in marriage. After dinner, her parents and three of her best friends were waiting at The Jax with champagne to help them celebrate! Brooke was born and raised in Lexington. She returned here for medical school at the University of Kentucky in 2009 after completing her undergraduate and Masters degrees. Meanwhile, Drew, who grew up in northeastern Texas, studied business at the University of Texas before being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. The couple chose the beautiful grounds of Keeneland as the backdrop for their wedding. They prioritized the convenience of a seamless transition from ceremony to reception when deciding on their wedding location. Its proximity to Downtown gave guests the feel of everything she loves about Lexington. They gave out of town guests a personalized gift bag complete with bourbon, caramel popcorn, bourbon balls, water, koozies and a cartoon itinerary with a map of Lexington created by the bride.

The bridesmaids wore vanilla Jenny Woo gowns with fur shawls from Embry’s, perfect for the cool November air. The men wore tuxedos with shawl lapels, black bowties and white pocket squares for an elegant look. The bride wore an off-white Tara Keely gown with a crocheted lace bodice and tulle skirt, complete with a champagne satin ribbon belt and taffeta floral accent, along with white glitter Christian Louboutin shoes for the ceremony; for the reception, she swapped for a rhinestone belt and Nike Sky Hi Dunk sneakers. She even changed her hair, starting with loose curls that she transitioned into an updo for the reception. She also sported a vintage fur coat to keep off the chill, and finished off the look with her mother’s aquamarine studs as her something borrowed and blue.
The ceremony was held in the Keene Barn. Fur blankets were draped on the pews for guests to wrap up from the cold. White drapes created a stunning backdrop for the nuptials. The minister was from Drew’s hometown. A string quartet played for the ceremony, as well as the cocktail hour. The reception was held in the Entertainment Center. Two large mirrors with calligraphy directed guests to their seats. White tablecloths featured a vintage knit detail. White ceramic chargers with a scalloped detail set the place settings apart. The velour ties on the menus matched the ribbon on their invitations, a clever touch that helped bring the event full circle. Chandeliers offered a soft, romantic lighting in the space. The bride loved the floral runner on the head table, illuminated by glittering candelabras.

Guests enjoyed a dual entrée of chicken Wellington and filet medallions, served with mashed sweet potatoes and asparagus. As a late night snack, the couple had donuts brought in from Magee’s Bakery. The four-tiered cake featured cascading sugar flowers. A champagne ribbon matched the bride’s belt for the ceremony. Martine’s also created the chocolate groom’s cake, which featured a quilted detail done in chocolate fondant, topped with a burnt orange Longhorns logo. The bride’s parents surprised her with the wedding send-off from “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, where the couple drove away in a vintage car between rows of fireworks. They left early the next morning for a romantic honeymoon in St. Lucia while the bride’s parents hosted a farewell brunch for guests on Sunday at Big Blue Martini.

ALAKA & MATT august sixth A mutual friend introduced Matt and Alaka while they were attending Henry Clay High School. Their first date was senior prom. They continued seeing each other after Alaka went away to college, making their long distance love possible through FaceTime catch up calls and weekend visits. The two had talked about the next step in their relationship several times before Matt finally popped the question. Forever was always in their plans, but after five years, Matt wanted to make it official. He called her one night and told her to pack a bag. At 4 am, he said he was outside and that they were taking a trip. She was sure he was planning to propose, but had no idea where they were going. Eventually, they wound up in the Chattahoochee forest on a wooden bridge in front of a waterfall. They heard a storm coming, and just as it began to rain, Matt pulled the ring box out of his backpack. Before they got back in their car, they recreated a scene from Alaka’s favorite movie, The Notebook, in the heavy rain. The ceremony and reception were held at Talon Winery. The couple looked at many venues, but none of them stood out until they saw the spectacular views at the winery.

The bridesmaids wore long dresses, and each chose her own style in lilac. The four flower girls wore cowboy boots, sunflower crowns and ivory dresses they selected. The groom wore a navy fitted tuxedo with a navy bow tie. “He wanted to be more classic, and look as much like James Bond as he could,” the bride explained. The groomsmen wore navy pants with suspenders and a lilac bow tie. Matt gifted his groomsmen socks from their favorite sports teams and 80s sunglasses in lilac. Alaka wore a Mikaella Bridal gown. She added a handmade French bolero for the ceremony. Instead of heels, she wore Ariat cowboy boots, something Alaka had wanted to do for many years. The bride is the sixth great-granddaughter of Henry Clay, and she was honored to wear a bracelet presented from The Great Compromiser to his wife, Lucretia, on their wedding day. The family heirloom was made of garnets, Lucretia’s birthstone. The bride chose to have a first look moment with her father and two brothers, a truly emotional moment.

The couple exchanged letters and gifts through their Best Man and Maid of Honor, so that they didn’t see each other until they locked eyes during the ceremony. Alaka gave her groom a watch while he sent her a diamond necklace. “The letters took away any neves and brought tears of excitement,” she remembered. The ceremony embraced the natural beauty of Talon Winery. Alaka’s father crafted the rustic signs with the couple’s favorite quotes and scripture. Matt’s father, a pastor, married the couple. Matt’s grandfather made a 12 foot tall cross for them out of 100 year-old barn wood to serve as the backdrop, while the altar featured a barrel that held a vase of flowers in memory of the bride’s grandmother, as well as the unity candle… which the couple struggled to light due to the wind and Alaka’s inexperience with lighters. Twinkling lights in the barn’s rafters cast a romantic glow on the reception. The tables alternated with sunflowers and a prairie mix of flowers in pine boxes and French pitchers. Each place setting featured a lilac napkin, topped with a sprig of wheat, the perfect rustic barn touch. Just outside the barn, they had a Kona Ice stand set up, as well as corn hole boards for guests to play. The “nearly-naked” cake bore sunflowers and purple flowers as an accent and kept with the reception’s dressed-up rustic aesthetic. The groom’s cake was a red Chevy pickup truck made of chocolate, a replica of the groom’s own truck. As guests danced, dined and toasted the couple, Matt and Alaka soaked in the love and support of their family and friends.

CHARITY & DUSTIN june sixth Though they grew up in the same small town, Charity and Dustin had somehow never crossed paths until after they had moved away to college. Charity was in her first semester of college while he was in his last. They were both home for the weekend attending a local high school football game when they saw each other for the first time. “There was an instant attraction between us, and we spoke on multiple occasions after,” the bride remembered. “But it wasn’t until two years later that our paths would cross again. This time, forever.”
One sunny Saturday, Charity stepped outside to see a letter attached to a balloon. This was the first of five, and each led her from one meaningful location to the next, starting with the place where they first met. When she made her way to the last location, she found Dustin waiting on one knee with a beautiful ring in hand. Charity and Dustin chose Raven Rock Golf Course in Jenkins, KY as their wedding venue. She had worked there a couple summers during college and accompanied her dad there on golf outings. She loved the beautiful scenery and how secluded the spot felt. Since they are both adventurous and love all that Kentucky has to offer, the mountainside spot was the perfect location for their wedding celebration.

beautiful, sunny, saturday... The bridesmaids wore strapless, floor-length peach dresses with diamond stud earrings. The groomsmen wore grey dress pants with neckties and suspenders. Charity’s stepdaughter and 5-month old daughter served as flower girls. Charity wore a lace gown with a long veil trimmed in lace, a romantic look that was the perfect contrast to Dustin’s dapper vest, bowtie and slacks. When they began planning the wedding, Charity knew she wanted the décor to combine feminine and masculine touches. Since Dustin is an avid hunter, she loved the idea of using antlers as decoration, which she combined with flowers for a softer look. The bride’s father designed and handcrafted an arch for the ceremony, which her mother decorated with dripping flowers and antlers, then completed with sheer drapes that fluttered in the breeze. The groom’s one request for the wedding was the he not see his bride before she walked down the aisle. A few days before the ceremony, they wrote each other letters to be read before they said their vows. They exchanged them just before the wedding began without seeing each other. Reading the letters helped calm their nerves and just cemented all their reasons for becoming husband and wife. “It was such a special moment for us,” Charity recalled.

owntown Lexington has a beauty and culture all its own, and the Lexington Center Corporation can help you capture the ambiance of downtown Lexington on your special day. The elegant Lexington Opera House cannot be matched by any other venue in town. Distinctive Victorian style and richly appointed décor create an elegant setting. Your dream wedding can come to life on the Opera House stage. Theatrical effects and specialized lighting are readily available to create your personal design and theme. Décor can be extravagant, or can be minimized to let the elegance of the Opera House speak for itself. The stunning grand staircase and the Queen Boxes offer dramatic backdrops for photos. There are many opportunities to use the high quality space, and brides have access to the entire building. Front of house and technical staff will be ready to assist you throughout the event, and some in-house equipment is provided. Another option is the Lexington Center located next to Triangle Park and overlooking Lexington’s beloved Triangle Park Fountain and dramatic downtown city views. The Bluegrass and the Thoroughbred Ballrooms give the Lexington Center the ability to host beautiful weddings of all sizes, but the pre-function area is what really sets the Lexington Center apart from other potential downtown locations. Grand windows look out onto one of the most beautiful views in downtown, creating a romantic setting for a ceremony or reception. The pre-function area can easily stand on its own for a ceremony or reception, or be combined with one of the ballrooms to maximize space to allow the Lexington Center to accommodate weddings of all sizes. At the Opera House, brides are free to choose their own catering, but must purchase alcohol through the Lexington Center Corporation. The Hyatt Regency hotel is the exclusive caterer for the Lexington Center. Brides are free to choose vendors for all other amenities. The reception was held at the golf course’s outdoor clubhouse. The tables were decorated with antlers and floral arrangements, a motif that appeared everywhere from custom wine labels to a corn hole board. Over 300 candles illuminated the space throughout the evening. Shriner’s catered the reception. The hearty Southern meal offered guests the option of pulled chicken or pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, served alongside twice-baked potatoes, corn on the cob, green beans and rolls. The three-tired vanilla naked wedding cake was decorated with bold blooms and light buttercream icing for a rustic look. The bride's one regret was not setting up a cocktail hour to accomodate the bridal portrait time, which she advised all brides to consider. "We allowed guests to eat while we were taking pictures, as we didn’t want anyone to have to wait on us," she explained. "Unfortunately, some people ate and leftbefore we were finished, so we didn’t get to speak to some of our guests as much as we had hoped." Twinkling lights surrounded the dance floor and balcony while lanterns hung from the ceiling added a soft, romantic touch as the sun set beyond the mountains. A S’mores bar by the fire pit and a corn hole set provided entertainment between the dancing and dining. A family friend served as DJ and kept everyone feeling festive. “At the reception, the guys simply stole the show,” Charity said. One groomsman ripped off his shirt as he entered and the fun continued from there. The groom and groomsmen danced to Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” and a 3 year-old boy literally had to be drug off the dance floor for bedtime. “The guys kept everyone laughing.”

SARAH & ADAM july twenty-third Sarah and Adam grew up just a few miles from each other in Winchester, but didn’t connect until they met through work in Versailles. Sarah was still in college at the time, and very focused on her degree, so the timing to date just wasn’t right. Adam told himself that if their paths ever crossed again, that he would do whatever it took for the two to connect. About a year later, Adam had his chance. One of their first dates was to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game, Adam’s favorite team.
In May 2015, they visited Atlanta, Georgia for a fun-filled long weekend with Sarah’s family. Following a Braves game, they took a golf cart ride through scenic trails. They stopped at a lake. Just as the sun was setting across the water, Sarah turned to find Adam on one knee. Afterwards, they met with the rest of their family for dinner, where they shared the news through a 14-person game of “Telephone” around the table! Sarah and Adam spent their courtship travelling; they loved sharing exciting adventures together. They moved away to Dallas, Texas to pursue new job opportunities, but Kentucky was always “home” for the pair. They love the state’s food, scenery and culture, and they knew they wanted to share it with all of their guests. Following their Memorial Day engagement, they spent 14 months planning their Lexington wedding from over 1,000 miles away! They chose Evans Orchard for their wedding celebration because they felt it was the perfect location for a summer wedding in the Bluegrass state. It offered the perfect space for both a ceremony and reception, surrounded by the natural beauty of Central Kentucky. It also offered space for the bride, groom and wedding party to get ready on-site.

The groom and groomsmen wore navy tuxedos. The groomsmen sported navy and pink plaid ties with pink boutonnieres while the groom wore a gold tie. The bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung dresses in Strawberry pink. This set the tone for the celebration’s fun, summery color palette. Sarah wore a Watters bridal gown with lace detail and an open back for a romantic look. The bouquets featured white hydrangeas and pink and white roses. Before their private first look moment, the couple exchanged letters. This built the anticipation for their first glimpse of one another. Sarah and Adam cherished the heartfelt words, which they read just prior to the ceremony. The ceremony was held outside of the Event Barn, overlooking the beautiful orchard. Guests were seated in refurbished church pews beneath a blue sky. The space was decorated simply with a large wooden cross at the altar. As the barn doors opened, the sun peeked from behind the clouds as Sarah walked up the aisle with her father. The couple was married by Adam’s father in a ceremony they personalized together to include Bible verses that built the foundation of their partnership. They braided a cord to represent their union, together and with God, on their wedding day.

"where our hearts feel like home." Sarah and Adam wanted the reception to be a fun gathering of their closest friends and family. They served delicious Kentucky barbecue and brisket from a family friend’s catering service. They set up yard games for everyone to enjoy, including corn hole, giant Jenga and checkers. Rustic signs directed guests around the space. The sweetheart table was set with a tablecloth featuring gold vines and wooden “Mr & Mrs” letters. Guests’ tables featured glass vases wrapped with gold or lanterns on a gold centerpiece. The tablecloths were navy, with bright pink napkins to carry on the color scheme of the day. The final portion of the reception was turned into a glow stick party, which all of the guests enjoyed. For the grand exit, guests lined up and formed a tunnel with the glow sticks, through which Sarah and Adam exited the reception. It was a fun, festive end to a perfect day that Sarah and Adam will always remember.

CAITLIN & AUSTIN may twenty-eighth During their time at DePauw University, a mutual friend introduced Caitlin and Austin. Over the weekend of DePauw’s football game against their rival team, Wabash College, Austin left his soccer cleats in the back of Caitlin’s car. It was the perfect excuse for him to get her number. It was also the start of something incredible for the pair. Their proposal was a true Lexington affair! While visiting one weekend on a break from Chicago, Austin insisted they check out Keene Place. Keeneland had always been a special place for them both, as it was one of the first places her parents took him the weekend they met him. They walked around the grounds, admiring the view and seeing how the preparations were going for the Breeders’ Cup. When they came across a secret spot, Austin proposed–and he had a professional photographer waiting to capture the moment! Caitlin and Austin are both fans of tradition, but didn’t want to have an overly formal wedding. To that end, the bridesmaids wore short blush dresses by Bill Levkoff while the guys wore simple grey suits with sage bowties. Austin’s mother pieced together an angel out of the fabric of her mother’s dress and her father’s suit, and sewed it into Austin’s suit jacket. Caitlin’s bouquet was wrapped with her mother’s veil, and a blue pearl hung from the fabric as her something blue. Caitlin and Austin exchanged gifts before the ceremony. He gifted her a necklace and personalized leather jewelry box. Caitlin gave her groom a monogrammed pocket watch, housed in a cooler she painted–a gift long overdue from Austin’s fraternity days that Caitlin never completed.

understated elegance The ceremony took place at First United Methodist Church on High Street, where Caitlin’s parents are members. This was the couple’s “home church” while in Lexington, so it was a meaningful choice. They wanted the focus to remain on their union. The couple was very close to the officiants of the wedding, and had spent lots of time with them in counseling leading up to the wedding. This made the homily and vows very personalized and extremely emotional. The pews were decorated with peonies, which were in bloom at the time of their May wedding. A single pink rose was placed on the altar in honor of Caitlin’s late great-grandmother, as the couple was married on her birthday. “Our wedding day was a direct reflection of our personalities and what is important to us as a couple: our faith, our family and our friends,” Caitlin explained. After the ceremony, the couple loaded up the wedding party and traveled to Bluegrass Tavern for the couple’s favorite cocktail, a Manhattan. They loved having a moment with the bridal party to thank them for their participation and to share one-on-one time together.

"We couldn't start our married life anywhere else..."
The couple chose The Apiary for their reception. They loved the beautiful interior and didn’t have to add much to enhance the beauty of the venue. They opted for short, sprawling floral arrangements so guests could focus on one another at each table and candles offered a beautiful glow. The couple’s aim was to carry the concept of “understated elegance” throughout the event. Metallic chargers and accents paired beautifully with the blush and sage color palette. Caitlin’s grandfather said a blessing over the meal before the dinner of beef tenderloin, and his words brought much of the family to tears. The Apiary helped the couple devise a signature cocktail as a nod to their shared affinity for bourbon. Their live band played jazz through the cocktail hour, then mixed up genres throughout the evening, keeping guests dancing all night long. The bourbon chocolate groom’s cake captured Austin’s love of Angel’s Envy and fly-fishing. For Caitlin, the highlight of the wedding were her vendors. “They really were the heroes of the day,” she said. “We can not stress enough how these people made our day what it was. The best decisions we made were the people we chose to work with.”

LAUREN & AARON april twenty-third One evening when she was in high school, Lauren was preparing to lead the worship service for her youth group when a handsome stranger walked into the church. When she found out he was the new youth pastor’s son, she introduced herself. He was a freshman at college at the time and simply assumed that Lauren was nearly out of high school. In fact, she was actually just a junior, a mix-up that they laugh about to this day. After they had been dating a while, Aaron knew it was time to ask Lauren a very important question. On a beautiful October day, he called her and asked if she wanted to take pictures of the two of them against the beautiful backdrop of autumn in Kentucky. She eagerly agreed, and didn’t think twice when he suggested she bring her tripod and use the camera’s self-timer. They set up in a field on her parents’ property where they love to spend time together. When she was sure she’d gotten the camera just right to snap full-body portraits of them, Aaron went down on one knee. The camera captured it all! As they were walking back, Aaron blew an air horn. Fireworks started going off. Lauren was surprised again to find their family and many college friends gathered to congratulate them!

"the most beautiful fall day I had ever seen."
The ceremony was held at Bridges Christian Church. Not only was it the bride’s childhood church, but also the groom’s place of employment at the time. Lauren wanted many aspects of the décor to be handmade. Her grandfather cut down several small trees that they used to make an arch to stand under during the ceremony. Lauren draped cream sheer drapery from it to give a loose and flowy look. Ferns and greenery provided a forest feel to the stage and glass string lights provided romantic lighting. Aaron and Lauren chose to have a first look moment before the ceremony began. They met in a secluded spot. With their backs to each other, they took turns reading the letters they had written for one another. It was a sweet moment that they will remember for the rest of their lives. The bridesmaids wore long, dove grey dresses while the groomsmen wore skinny black suits with a slim black tie. The bride’s romantic Mori Lee gown was topped off with a boho flower crown, featuring the couple’s theme colors.

forever young
The groom’s father built a huge wooden backdrop for behind the wedding party table, featuring a chevron pattern. Lauren hung gold letters across it that read “Forever Young” and covered the top with seeded eucalyptus. The tables were filled with homemade wooden candleholders, crafted from logs the bride’s father cut. These were surrounded by seeded eucalyptus, garden roses and mini carnations. A homemade sign bore the menu. All these elements gave the day a rustic, bohemian feel that was fun for everyone in attendance. Since the wedding was held in the mid-afternoon, guests enjoyed appetizers and a wine bar. The wedding cake was a naked cake wrapped with florals. The wooden cake topped from BHLDN said “hooray”! One of the groomsmen served as DJ and the bride’s uncle served as emcee. The bride crafted the Polaroid photobooth herself. When guests snapped a shot of themselves, they hung them with mini clothespins so everyone could enjoy the silly snaps. When the day was done, Lauren was thrilled with the result. “Honestly, I would do it over in a heartbeat,” she said. “I enjoyed it all so much!” She was proud that she stayed true to herself and her groom through the process, creating a day that reflected so much of their personalities to the ones they love most. She advises other couples, “The two of you are not the same as any other couple. Let your uniqueness shine on your day!”

WHITNEY & SCOTT may twenty-first Just as Whitney was getting ready to leave a party at UK on Labor Day weekend, she met Scott. She stayed, and they spent the rest of the evening talking about music, movies and future plans. “Scott was so sweet and respectful,” she remembered, “we exchanged numbers and became very close friends.” Six months later, they were a couple. Over the next five years, the two shared many memories, including vacations with Whitney’s family. With their annual beach trip coming, Scott asked for her parents’ permission before purchasing a ring. On the third night of the trip, Scott took Whitney for a moonlit walk along the beach. Under a sky full of stars, Scott dropped to one knee and pulled the ring from his shirt pocket. Whitney’s great aunt owns Jeptha Knobs farm in Shelbyville, KY. Growing up, Whitney visited there often with her siblings and cousins. When Scott visited the farm, he loved the beautiful scenery and peaceful feeling. It made the perfect choice for the wedding day.

Whitney worked at Twirl Boutique in college, so she turned to them to help her find the right dress. The Haley Paige gown she chose features an illusion floral beaded top with an open back. The flower girls wore illusion lace dresses as a complement to the bride’s attire. Whitney loves peonies, so her bouquet featured blooms picked from the couple’s own peony bush the day of the wedding, arranged with green succulents: the bouquet colors were a nod to the bride’s sorority, Delta Zeta. She also wore her late maternal grandmother’s floral bracelet and her late paternal grandmother’s favorite ring. As it had been raining for several days prior to the ceremony, the bridal look included a pair of Hunter boots under her gown! It was important to the couple for the bridesmaids’ personalities to shine through, so they let them choose their own dresses in teals and blues. Scott wore a grey J. Crew suit with a succulent boutonniere. The groomsmen wore grey suits, with cognac shoes and suspenders. The couple’s beloved dog, Ellie, was in attendance and wore a floral collar as she greeted guests on her parents’ big day. “We did a first look, and both agreed that it was one of the best parts of the entire day,” Whitney explained. They met by the lake and exchanged handwritten letters that they read just before the ceremony, which was held by the lake. The flower girls tossed light grey feathers. The bridesmaids carried rustic lanterns, providing romantic candlelight and setting the scene for a dreamy evening. To include their loved ones, they did a “warming of the rings”, where their wedding bands were passed among the wedding party and immediate family members. Each held the rings and blessed them with prayers and well wishes. “The people we love most blessed our rings, and we will carry those blessings with us everywhere we go,” Whitney said.

just live in the moment The reception was relaxed and beautiful. Strings of lights illuminated the tent area; white feathers with golden tips sparkled in the light. A moss-covered sign bearing the name of the couple’s first dance song, “Wonderful”, hung above the sweetheart table. Terrariums with live succulents served as centerpieces, complete with gold animal figurines and twinkle lights. A 12-foot teepee served as a nod to the bride’s Cherokee heritage. Scott and Whitney loved the idea of serving breakfast food for their wedding: they love to eat breakfast for dinner, and didn’t see why their wedding day should be an exception! Eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, donut holes, éclairs and–of course–biscuits and gravy made the event feel down-home and festive. Since the bride and groom aren’t big fans of cake, they opted to serve many flavors of pie from Missy’s Pies. Scott’s fraternity has a tradition where the Phi Sigma Kappa brothers circle around the bride and serenade her with “Piano Man” by Billy Joel. Whitney secretly learned the harmonica sections of the song and surprised the groom with her new skill. The couple are passionate about music, so they personalized the day by choosing the day’s playlist. Guests danced, dined and enjoyed celebrating a very special love.

BRITTANY & BRIAN december thirty-first When Brittany’s smiling face ended up on the front page of her hometown newspaper, she thought she was just advertising her employer, a local bank. But when Brian saw her picture, he was sold on her charm. He asked around town about her for four months before he got her phone number. He introduced himself by text on her birthday. They met in person a few days later, and have been together since.
The couple loves boating and travelling. They love spending time at a vacation home in Florida, and Brian knew it was the perfect spot for his proposal. He took her down to the dock, sat her down on one knee and popped the question. What Brittany didn’t know when she said yes was that a friend was secretly videotaping the sweet moment from a nearby bush. The couple held their rehearsal dinner at Shakespeare and Co., where Brittany and Brian had their first “real” date. The bride and bridesmaids had manicures and pedicures together before the rehearsal.
The couple chose to be married on New Year’s Eve. They selected Fasig-Tipton as the site for their entire wedding celebration, allowing guests to enjoy all the festivities in one location, and the space was perfect for their vision.

While she was getting ready, Brittany was surprised with a book filled with letters from the groom, bridesmaids and the mothers of the bride and groom. The couple also exchanged gifts: he gave her a pair of diamond stud earrings, and she gave him a personalized Bible and a boudoir photo book. The groom and groomsmen attended a bourbon tour during the afternoon before getting dressed in black tuxedoes. The bride wore a Justin Alexander ballgown she purchased at a bridal shop in her hometown, accented with a fur jacket for photos. Her bouquet featured white and blush roses, studded with pearls and accented with white-edged greenery for a frosty look. The bridesmaids wore floor-length Sorella Vita dresses in a pink blush hue, accessorized with crystal bracelets and glitzy earrings. They bundled up in silvery wraps for the outdoor photos. As guests entered the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion for the ceremony, they were greeted with a Whitaker Winter Sangria to warm their spirits. As the groom first laid eyes on his bride, he was overcome with emotion. They exchanged their vows atop the sales stage, surrounded by their family and loved ones. The reception played on the New Year’s Eve theme, incorporating sparkle and winter romance wherever possible. Tables were topped with sequined runners illuminated by votive candles. The floral arrangements featured white and blush blooms with glass containers and crystal accents that glittered in the soft lighting.

the perfect start to a new year.
Guests enjoyed a dinner featuring shrimp and grits and fried chicken. The dance floor was full all night long and everyone enjoyed stepping into the couples’ wedding photo booth. Guests noshed on loaded soft shell tacos as a late-night snack. As a surprise to the bride and groom, the wedding coordinators put together a picture slideshow that touched their hearts. The couple also cherishes the memories of the speeches delivered by the matron of honor and the best man. “I have gone over this day in my mind a thousand times and can’t think of a single thing I would do differently,” Brittany explained. “It was simply the wedding of my dreams.” The 4-tiered wedding cake was decorated with flowers and featured four different flavors; red velvet, chocolate, vanilla and strawberries and champagne. One tier was wrapped with silver pearls and the topper was a glittery monogram. To start the new year with a bang, a confetti cannon went off at midnight. Brittany and Brian were thrilled to start their new life together at the start of a new year, and they loved sharing it all with the people dearest to them.

What factor is more important in diamonds, color or clarity? Each of those are nearly equal in establishing value, however cut, or more precisely quality of cut, has the greatest impact on brilliance and beauty. Seeing is believing, we show diamonds under a gem microscope as well as comparisons of color and brilliance to the unaided eye. Cut is a difference you can see without a trained eye.

2
How did you become a gemologist? GIA (Gemological Institute of America); I completed a 7 course series including precise rules of diamond grading, colored stone identification and grading, as well as much of the history and technology advancements of the gem world. It was about a 2 year process initially, then many training seminars over the years to stay up to date with changes in the gem world.
Is all your repair work done here in your store? Yes nearly every service we offer is done on site rather than sent out, including expert appraisal. Watch repair, except battery changes, are done by expert watchmakers at another location. We also offer custom designs with computer assisted design programs.
Is platinum really superior to gold? Platinum does wear longer, especially important when it comes to thin petite designs such as antique filigree. Platinum does however scratch even easier than gold. Each metal and purity level has it’s advantages for different applications. We try to share our knowledge and experience of 27 years in which metal is most suitable to the design of each piece.

What color is best in blue sapphire, and where do they come from? Vivid medium blue, neither grayish nor greenish. Sapphire colors (and they’re not all blue!) range from a light pastel all the way through very dark midnight blue. The most prized gems, known as cornflower blue, came from the Kashmir Valley in the Himalayas, extremely rare today. However even these are somewhat lighter than most people prefer. Sapphire is a bit of a specialty at Gem Source, and I could write about them all day. Many of our finest pieces Gem Source sold over the years have had a sapphire 368 Southland Dr. | Lexington as the center stone, or star of the 859.278.3108| gemsourceinc.com show as we call it.

Hosting a green wedding is important to us. How does choosing an estate ring help us “go green”? When you choose a ring that was made even a decade ago, you place no additional carbon footprint on the planet today. For example, today’s mines have to sift through several tons of earth to gain a single, one carat diamond suitable for an engagement ring. More importantly, you are celebrating your love with a ring that has proven itself as timeless as your love!

When shopping for diamonds, I have viewed lab reports from GIA, AGS, IGI, EGL and so many others. Does it really matter which lab graded my diamond? Yes! Different labs use different methods for their “lab reports” or “certs” but may use the same terminology. This can make them almost impossible to compare by the same standards. From the beginning, St. John & Myers Jewelry has only offered lab reports from GIA and AGS due to the long-standing integrity of these two institutions; recognized worldwide as the gold standard of diamond grading. The wise choice is to purchase a diamond with a GIA or AGS report while also using a local independent jeweler like St. John & Myers Jewelry to evaluate and compare diamonds side by side. This way you can interpret the lab reports ethically and correctly, making sure you get the best diamond for your money!
My fiancé has strong sense of style. She likes unique clothing and wants to set trends, not follow them. How do I choose a style for her? Estate jewelry is the perfect match for the woman who has her own sense of fashion and style. Whether it a timeless 1950’s “Mad Men” look or a classic platinum Art Deco ring straight out of Gatsby, you can be sure that she will not see her same ring on another girl’s hand at a party!
There is no way I can afford an engagement ring at St. John & Myers! Not true! Antique and estate jewelry come in a wide range of prices. Your money can go a lot further wearing estate, vintage, or even antique jewelry. The marketing and labor costs to produce and sell an engagement ring were paid for long ago, when a dollar went a lot further. Come discover our surprising selection of one-of-a-kind engagement rings from $1,500! Regardless of your budget, you owe it to yourself to drop by and see why St. John & Myers Jewelry was named one of America’s Coolest Stores by InStore Magazine.
5
My fiancé wants a platinum ring, but is it worth the extra expense? It is no accident that platinum has earned itself the nickname “the forever metal”. At St. John & Myers Jewelry, we prefer platinum. Because we appraise, repair and restore antiques frequently, we see how platinum jewelry wears longer and protects diamonds better than any other metal. Not to mention that it is a true, white metal. But if you can’t try on a platinum ring for yourself, how will you know if you’ll like it? Some stores can show you one or two platinum engagement rings, but at St. John & Myers Jewelry, we can show you dozens. In fact, we have been told that we have the best selection of platinum rings in town, right here in our showroom. Drop by and discover for yourself why platinum truly is “the forever metal”!
