Students undergo counseling programs

Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School’s Guidance Counselor, Mr. Jasper F. Canete, initiates a series of counseling programs to address mental health concerns alongside school administrators and teachers.

Earlier this year, the school released a record increase in the rate of students who are suffering from unstable mental health after a thorough evaluation by school administrations, teachers, and school guidance.

These programs were created at the national level of the Department of Education (DepEd) in coordination with the Philippine Mental Health Association and the Guidance and Counseling Association of the Philippines. As schools continue to settle with new normal ways to continue the learning of students, MOGCHS guidance, following DepEd’s concern, continues to accomplish things to find solutions to provide solutions.

The said program follows a referral system among teachers who are handling the students. The teacher or adviser, together with Mr. Canete, will communicate with regard to the student’s status.

There were three ways prepared by the school’s guidance; it begins with psychological first aid or the evaluation of the student’s status. Then, after passing the evaluation test, the student will proceed to several activities that suit them, including but not limited to counseling, music therapy, simulation, and art activities. This then prompts the second activity, which is the referral to a psychiatrist or psychologist.
