From the Desk of Ryan Lanzen Follow Us Now! Hello Members!
What a fantastic Memorial Weekend we had at the Club. Thank you all for coming and spending your holiday weekend with us at Torreon! The weekend was full of fun events, great golf, outstanding food and we were fortunate to have the weekend weather decide to participate in the celebration as the weather was gorgeous! Thanks to all of the staff that works countless hours on these Holiday weekends to make them as fantastic as they are, it was truly a great weekend! One fairly heavy topic of conversation this past weekend was the green speeds on the golf courses being slower than normal. We are aware of the speeds and the main issue is the grass on the greens is very thick, which is a good problem to have, meaning the greens are healthy and growing. In an effort to get to the green speeds we would like, we will begin mowing the greens with groomers on the front of the walk mowers that help stand the grass up and give us a better cut on the greens. The other practice you will see soon is verticutting which is followed by a very light topdress which also helps thin out the grass on the putting surfaces and increase the green speed with a negligible effect on the roll of the golf ball. We will continue to take steps to achieve the desired green speeds as we move forward.
You may have noticed over the weekend that we are at the completion stages of a couple other projects. We have installed three FootGolf holes on the Short Golf Course to the south of the Driving Range. Soccer balls are available to be checked out at the Family Center if you would like to give it a try! You can learn more about FootGolf by going to www.footgolf.us. In addition to FootGolf, we are almost complete with a Disc Golf course that is on the property south of the Short Course and west of the Tennis Courts. Again, discs are available at the Family Center and you can learn more about Disc Golf by visiting www.discgolf.com. Lastly, we have removed the old sand at the sand volleyball court and replaced it with brand new, soft, fluffy sand! The sand volleyball court received a lot of action last weekend! Make your plans to attend a great limited seating event, Torreon’s first WINE PAIRING DINNER of the season! The special evening is June 22, 2016 at 6:00 PM. You can find the cost and the menu on the flier in the following pages. I have to say, I was fortunate to be a part of the taste test we did for this event and you will not be sorry that you attended; some of the best food I have ever tasted and paired with those wines, superb! To make your reservations, call the Front Desk at 928-532-8000, spots are filling quickly! Did you know Torreon has STORAGE UNITS? We do! Sizes range from an equestrian tack at 5’x10’ to a RV garage at 15’ x 40’ and are paired with the most competitive storage prices on the mountain! Out of storage space at your mountain escape?
