Cayuga Museum of History & Art and Case Research Lab
203 Genesee Street Housed in the Willard-Case mansion (built in 1836), the museum offers exhibits on local figures, events and items pertinent to the development of Cayuga County. The Case Research Lab is the site where the first successful system of sound on film was invented. Theater Mack, located in the historic carriage house, hosts lectures, events and Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival productions. Gift shop offers local memorabilia.

Harriet Tubman Home
180 South Street Known as “The Moses Of Her People,” Tubman settled in Auburn after the Civil War and operated this home where she lived for 50 years, for aged and indigent blacks. As a conductor on the Underground Railroad—a network of abolitionists that helped slaves escape to freedom—she made a dozen trips south over a period of 11 years. Tubman died in 1913 at her South Street property, and is buried at Fort Hill Cemetery. Tours on the hour with the last tour one hour before closing. Hours: Tuesday–Friday 10AM–4PM, Saturday 10AM–3PM (by appt. November–January)

19 Fort Street Set on a hill overlooking Auburn, this site was used for burial mounds by Native Americans as early as 1100 A.D. It includes the burial sites of William Seward, Harriet Tubman, Martha Coffin Wright, Col. Myles Keogh who fought with Gen. Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn, and a monument to Native American orator Chief Logan. Seward House Museum
33 South Street For over 50 years, the Seward House was the home of William Henry Seward (1801-1872), one of the foremost politicians of nineteenth century America, serving as a New York State Senator, Governor of New York, a United States Senator, and Secretary of State under Presidents Lincoln and Johnson. Open to the public for guided tours of this beautifully preserved home that houses one of the largest original collections in the US. Continue up historic South Street where you’ll find beautiful homes from a bygone era and the Seward House Museum, the former residence of William H. Seward. Seward’s home was part of the Underground Railroad system, but Seward is probably best known for his work to purchase Alaska, referred to by many as “Seward’s Folly.” Take a walk through Fort Hill Cemetery where these heroes and other notable citizens were laid to rest.

Trails
Hojack Trail
Auburn-Fleming Trail
The Auburn-Fleming Trail follows a two-mile stretch of abandoned railroad bed along a network of streams and wetlands. Easy trail access on Dunning Avenue. Hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding permitted.
Erie Canal Recreational Trail
This historic canal tow path is a recreational trail for hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders and, in winter, snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. It traverses the county from the village of Jordan to the Seneca River. High points include carved stone locks, the Centerport Aqueduct, Lock 52 (west of Port Byron) and Richmond Aqueduct (west of the Seneca River). Access to the trail is in Weedsport behind Arby’s/Tim Hortons on the north side of Route 31, and at Schasel Park in Port Byron.
Cayuga Community College Nature Trail
197 Franklin Street, Auburn This is a one-mile loop trail located directly behind Cayuga Community College for hiking, biking and leashed dogs. The trail, rated moderate, is open year-round and is a natural oasis with man-made ponds and plenty of wildlife. cayuga-cc.edu (315) 255-1743
Cayuga Village Recreational Trail
A 2.5 mile trail through the village of Cayuga with nearly one half mile of publicly owned lakefront as well as fitness and nature loops. The trail provides lake access to canoers and kayakers. The trailhead is located at MacIntosh Park in the village of Cayuga off Genesee Street. (315) 252-1707
This off-road, multi-use trail extends through the Town of Sterling along an abandoned railroad bed. Permitted uses include hiking, biking and crosscountry skiing. The Hojack Trail extends west into Wayne County and east into Oswego County. ATV use allowed from 4/15–10/1 from Oswego to Cato.
Cato-Fair Haven Trail
Running from Cato to Fair Haven, this multi-use trail traverses woodlands, farmlands and wetlands. The trail connects the town of Cato and the Village of Fair Haven along 14 miles of abandoned Lehigh Valley Railroad bed. A feature is the Cato Station, situated at the head of the trail in the village of Cato. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are encouraged on the trail. ATV use allowed from 4/15–10/1.
Montezuma Canal Heritage Park
Main entrance off State Route 90 on High Street north of the Firehouse, Montezuma. This 140-acre park along the Seneca River/NYS Barge Canal is part of the eastern portion of the Seneca River Crossing Canal Historic District and is designated on the National Register of Historic Places. Several nature walking trails meander through the natural and man-made landscape which includes the magnificent Richmond Aqueduct, the second largest aqueduct on the Erie Canal. SWEET TREAT TRAIL The Sweet Treat Trail is all about the unique sweets and treats that Cayuga County has to offer. Whether it’s honey or jam or homemade cookies made with locally grown and produced products, we have everything to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. From north to south in Cayuga County it seems like all roads lead to yummy goodness! Begin your sweet adventure in northern Cayuga County with a stop at Fly By Night Cookie Company in Fair Haven famous for their homemade cookies, pastries, pies and cakes made from scratch with real eggs, butter, and fruit from local farms. From Fair Haven head south on Route 34 to Carolyn's Creations, a quaint village bakery located in Cato, offering cakes, cookies, pies and other tasty baked goods made from scratch with locally produced ingredients. From Cato head south to Auburn and then west on Genesee Street until you reach Morgan Half Acre Produce. This well known farm stand offers locally produced maple syrup and honey as well as a variety of jams and jellies made with fruits fresh from the farm. Turn south on Route 326 and make your next stop The Apple Station where you can treat yourself to sweet cider, baked apple cider donuts and fruit wines. From Route 326, follow NYS Scenic Byway Route 90 south along the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake and pick up some blueberry scones at Karen's Country Confections LLC in Union Springs before you make your final stop in King Ferry at Treleaven by King Ferry Winery, maker of awardwinning wines including delicious dessert wines.
