Since the announcement is sudden in nature it create a disruption throughout the economy. The people faced many kind of cash shortage because our country economy is mainly depends on cash and it threaten the economic output. The move was met with protests and strikes and criticized as poorly planned. Because of the sudden nature of the move People had to stand in lengthy queues, and several deaths were linked to the inconveniences caused due to the rush to exchange cash on the way in exchanging their old bank notes. India’s peak Tourism season is from October to January and the Demonitisation will definitely affect the visiting tourists as most of the monetary transaction related to the tourism industry in India deal in cash .The two category Tourists in India including foreigners and the domestic Indians and in one who book the packages online and the other who go for vacation their own. They have their own plan to visit the place and use localization in their travel. This second category of tourists hit hard because cash is one of the important factor of their travel. Even though the first category book their travel online the entry fee for most of the sites still work in cash. Tthe bottle neck of the situation remains the same for both categories and most of the tourists will struggle. Drastic drop in the bookings are going on this year end. According to many Industry leaders, all these hardships in this transformation period are inevitable and temporary and will overcome soon. For the benefit of Indian economy as citizens, we have to face this hardship and inconvenience and must prepare to welcome this bumps with a warm smile. With this bold move the parallel Economy of the country will be stacked. The pull out of the currencies and replacement with new one will completely stop the counterfeit Indian currency and this will help to close the windows for terror financing. Most of the Tourism Industry leaders have the same view point as It will help to flush the system clean in long term and consider this as a bold step that a Government can take. Let’s hope this step will be a new beginning and things will change. Ravisankar K.V. Editor Tourism India | December 2016 | 5

o-called ‘sharing’ accommodation providers may be growing fast but they still have a relatively low share of the overall hospitality market in Europe. Their main impact is in cities where they generate significant numbers of visitors but also reduce residential accommodation, according to experts. Those were some of the results of the 24th World Travel Monitor® Forum. Only 3 percent market share for ‘sharing’ accommodation 10 | Tourism India | December 2016
The so-called ‘sharing’ economy has boomed in recent years with the rise of firms such as Airbnb which have disrupted the leisure accommodation sector. However, they remain niche players, according to figures from the World Travel Monitor®. In 2015, Europeans booked so-called ‘sharing’ accommodation for 14 million outbound trips, which was a mere 3 percent of all their international trips. Nearly two thirds of these bookings were for apartments/ flats and holiday homes, while only
about 15 percent were for private rooms or B&B stays. “These apparently low figures may seem surprising considering how often ‘sharing’ companies make headlines about their dynamic growth, but they also show the sizeable future potential for these players,” commented Dr. Martin Buck, Messe Berlin’s Senior Vice President. The largest and best-known ‘sharing accommodation’ platform Airbnb now has about 3 million accom-
modation listings worldwide and is expanding into new business areas such as destination activities. But the US company has also faced widespread criticism that it is disrupting city centres and neighborhoods by bringing in excessive numbers of visitors and effectively taking apartments out of the commercial rental sector by driving up prices. Diverse cities including Berlin have imposed new rules on commercial rental of private apartments to try to stop property-owners from renting to tourists through Airbnb and other providers instead of to local people or students. In response, Airbnb agreed at the start of December to enforce regulations designed to prevent hosts from renting properties in London for more than 90 nights a year and in Amsterdam for more than 60 nights.
the accommodation is available for rent for more than 31 days a year, and a high proportion of listed accommodation is located in city centres, he said. In London, about half of all Airbnb units are offered by hosts with multiple properties. “Airbnb combines a substantial part of commercial activities with a minority of authentic ‘sharers’. This means residents are displaced by tourists. So it’s ‘unsharing’. You reserve assets for tourists,” Oskam concluded.
Mr. Jeroen Oskam, research centre director at the Hotelschool The Hague, explained to the Pisa forum that Airbnb is primarily a commercial business, and now has a 10 percent share of all international arrivals in Amsterdam and nearly 8 percent in London. According to his in-depth analysis of Airbnb’s bookings in four European cities (Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Madrid), more than 82 percent of Airbnb-listed accommodation is rented as the entire property, and less than 18 percent as a private room or a sharing room. Similarly, more than 80 percent of

r. Kadakampally Surendran, Kerala's Tourism Minister took on the role of a gracious host and guide at a unique virtual reality platform set up by his department at the international airport in New Delhi to give air passengers a taste of cruising through the state's famed backwaters. The minister spent the entire day recently at the kiosk set up by Kerala Tourism at the Indira Gandhi International airport greeting curious passengers drawn to the novelty of a life-size "kettuvallam" (houseboat) placed in the airport departure area and explaining how the technology works. The backwaters have been brought to life through a two-minute film – specially shot using 360 degree technology using six cameras simultaneously. Visitors can don a VR headset and be instantly transported 2,000 km away to a boat floating on the tranquil waters, listening in to conversations of locals going about their daily lives and watching the picturesque coconut palms, rolling paddy fields, birds, the sunset
and other vistas from an actual cruise passing by. The VR "experience site", the latest promotional and marketing initiative of Kerala Tourism, has attracted much attention since it went operational on October 28 and has signalled that Kerala remains at the forefront of using technology for tourism promotion. "It was an amazing experience, even for someone like me who has actually been on a real houseboat cruise," Shri Surendran said of the virtual reality tour. "For a person who has never visited Kerala, I cannot imagine a more fantastic introduction. We definitely hope to see more people wanting to experience the real thing after what they have seen here." MPs from Kerala, including Mr. P Karunakaran, Mr. Vayalar Ravi, Mr. K Somaprasad, Mr. C P Narayanan, Mrs. P K Sreemathi, Mr. M B Rajesh, Mr. P K Biju, Mr. Jose K Mani, Mr. K K Ragesh, Mr. K C Venugopal and Mr. Joy Abraham, and Dr. Vishwas Mehta IAS, Kerala's Resident Commissioner in Delhi were among nearly 200 passengers
who visited the kiosk and enjoyed the experience. Mr. U.V. Jose IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism, said technology would be an integral part of tourism promotion and marketing now and in the future. The VR zone at the IGI airport is part of the department’s ‘Out of Home’ marketing campaign to promote ‘Brand Kerala’ and is targeted at high net worth individuals in the domestic market. "We understand that technology helps us connect with people in better ways than conventional tools. Our future initiatives will certainly be focused on the hi-tech," he said. Besides New Delhi and Mumbai, Kerala Tourism is planning to take the "experience site" to other airports, including Bengaluru. For greater engagement, visitors to the zone are being asked to tweet their experience with the hashtag #Greatbackwaters. A dispensing machine at the site captures their tweets and rewards random tweeters with a picturesque postcard they can mail from the spot. Tourism India | December 2016 | 15

Along with that, your little ones can also enjoy horse rides, camel rides, net cricket, table tennis and many more fun games, while you will get an opportunity to try your hand at activities like paramotoring, archery, star gazing, rifle shooting and trikee. Once the sports and games are done, a walk on the mesmerizing expanse of the White Rann is something else that your little
ones will definitely enjoy, along with the unique wildlife, something else that’s a major draw for children. The little Rann of Kutch is home to Flamingo City, the only place in India, where pink flamingos regularly gather every year in order to breed, and also a sanctuary for the Indian Wild Ass, one of the three surviving species of Wild Ass in the world. Apart from this, you will also get a chance to see rare and endangered animal species like the Chinkara, Desert Fox, jackal, Desert Cat, Caracal, Blackbuck, Striped Hyena, and over 350 unique bird species.
After you’re done with the Rann Of Kutch, there are quite a few other notable destinations nearby, that will give you and your kids a very unique perspective into the history of the area. For instance, Dholavira is an actual excavation site, containing the ruins of one of the five most prosperous cities from Harap-

Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve Aoraki Mackenzie is a gold-rated dark sky reserve, in recognition of the quality of the almost light-pollutionfree skies of the Mackenzie Basin.
The dark sky reserve is located in the Mackenzie Basin, in the South Island of New Zealand, and includes Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and the villages of Lake Tekapo, Twizel and Mt Cook. The 4300sq km area is bounded by a spectacular alpine landscape with the Southern Alps in the west, and the Two Thumb Range in the east. A high number of clear nights throughout the year, along with the stability and transparency of the local atmosphere and its unique dark skies, contribute to the Mackenzie’s international recognition as one of the best sites for viewing and researching the southern sky. This is partly due to a lighting ordinance incorporated into the Mackenzie District Plan which has provided lighting controls throughout most of the reserve since it was enacted in 1981. It was one of the first such ordinances in the southern hemisphere. The Magellanic Clouds - satellite galaxies to the Milky Way that are only visible in the southern hemisphere can be seen continuously throughout the year.

he Sanno Matsuri is one of the three most famous festivals of Tokyo, along the Kanda Matsuri and Fukagawa Matsuri. It takes place in mid June in even numbered years, alternating with the Kanda Matsuri which takes place in odd numbered years. The Sanno Festival extends over a week and has a few events, being its main attraction the parade that winds through central Tokyo over the course of nine hours. The parade begins and ends at Hie Shrine, the shrine responsible for holding the festival. Hie Shrine enshrines the guardian deity of Tokyo. It is believed to predate the founda-
tion of the city, and its kami (Shinto gods) have always been associated with the protection of the city. About 300 people dressed in ancient costumes parade through the heart of Tokyo including Tokyo Station, Ginza, and in front of the Diet Building. Consisting of mikoshi (portable shrines) adorned with a phoenix on the roof, dashi floats, people carrying drums, people on horseback, the procession extends over a length of 600 meters. You will also see people dressed as the legendary goblin called Tengu, characterized by a red face and a long nose, and believed to possess supernatural powers. The proces-
sion which departs at 8 o'clock in the morning does not return to the shrine until early in the evening. During the festival week, you can also experience various Japanese traditions. For example, there are displays of flowers arranged in the traditional style known as Ikebana, and special tables and seats are set up in the shrine garden so that you can savor Japanese tea. You might also see people going through a large ring made of thatch, which is believed to purify the sins you have unconsciously committed in the past 6 months. The doll you hold as you stroke your body and pass through the ring is said to take on your sins. Tourism India | December 2016 | 49
