A

nother tourism season rights in front of us. Tourism industry in India is all set to welcome our international guests with smile at face and love at heart as always. “Athithi Devo Bhava”, the magical manthra of Indian tourism and hospitality industry, which we taken from our tradition, heritage and culture are still intact and riding on the wave to attract more tourists to our country. The new age travelers are more concerned about our environment and culture than old generation leisure tourists. The Alert Independent Travelers, the new age tourists are more brand conscious and emotionally sensitive to their surroundings and nature. Three dynamic trends are emerged from the sensitive and emotional side of new aged traveler’s who have a thirst for authentic experiences from destinations and they are always looking for more exciting holidays. Secondly they are well aware and action oriented towards the negative trends in tourism. They will not allows to stamp their foot prints in local people’s homes in the villages, farm lands, seashores, river banks, forests areas, seashores and mountains of the world. Finally they are more concerned about the climate change and future of our earth. In this context Ethics in Tourism is an unavoidable marketing tool and service factors to sustain a destination. Economic prosperity, Social equality, Environmental and cultural protection are the key factors to make a destination of the future. Keeping destinations special is important to everyone Up keeping the traditional values and protection of culture and nature are very important to take our destinations to next levels. Tourism professionals have an obligation to provide tourists with objective and honest information on their places of destination and on the conditions of travel, hospitality and stays; they should ensure that the contractual clauses proposed to their customers are readily understandable as to the nature, price and quality of the services they commit themselves to providing and the financial compensation payable by them in the event of a unilateral breach of contract on their part; Tourism professionals should show concern, in co-operation with the public authorities, for the security and safety, accident prevention, health protection and food safety of those who seek their services; likewise, they should ensure the existence of suitable systems of insurance and assistance; they should accept the reporting obligations prescribed by national regulations and pay fair compensation in the event of failure to observe their contractual obligations Tourism professionals, so far as this depends on them, should contribute to the cultural and spiritual fulfilment of tourists and allow them, during their travels, to practise their religions. The press, and particularly the specialized travel press and the other media, including modern means of electronic communication, should issue honest and balanced information on events and situations that could influence the flow of tourists; they should also provide accurate and reliable information to the consumers of tourism services; the new communication and technologies should also be developed and used for this purpose; as is the case for the media, they should not in any way promote sex tourism.

though there is a very successful model in the neighboring state’s Kerala Travel Mart , in Tamilnadu it took long time to the travel and tourism community, private and government, to team up together. Mr.S. Sundar, Secretary of Tamilnadu Travel Mart Society, said “The concept of collective promotion of the state wasn’t there and everyone was promoting their own properties, their own brands.” Tamil Nadu Travel Mart (TTM) has brought-out refreshing new products from the traditional state. Nature, cuisine, beaches, wellness, heritage, farms, flower art, craft with tours and hotels, to link these attractions rendered Tamilnadu as a state of multiple attractions. In the beginning Tamilnadu Travel Mart Society with just about 18 members had different questions about the possibility of organizing a travel mart within a short period of three months. It was in Madurai that the action plan was inked. “Madurai is an auspicious town to start a new initiative. It’s a temple town. There is good energy there,” said Mr.Shreevats Sanjay, Regional Director, South India Tourism.

Tamilnadu Tourism Society divides the state into four regions as per the dynasties that ruled these places: The Chola, The Pandya, The Chera and The Pallava. Each region represented a different form of tourism: Buddhist circuits, palace tourism, water sports, luxury tours, hill stations, etc. The theme for the stalls at TTM was too based on these four historic dynasties with their original flags itself made for an interesting go around for exploring different products. A pre-tour based on this theme had already given a peek to most delegates into what was in store at each theme. The organizers opined that it is not fair to compare TTM with KTM. “We are a crawling baby while KTM is a teenager,” as someone from TTM Society said. “It’s not about competing with Kerala but complimenting each other,” said Mr.Sanjay Shrivatsav, Regional Director- South of India Tourism, Chennai. Chennai’s good supply of star category hotels was well represented at the Mart with some popular local brands offering personalized local hospitality.

SpiceJet’s

big push regional connectivity for

S

piceJet, India’s largest regional player explores opportunities with Japan’s Setouchi Holdings for 10 & 14-seater amphibious plane operations to provide air connectivity to remotest parts of the country. In a groundbreaking initiative – the first by a major Indian airline – SpiceJet is exploring the introduction of smaller fixed wing aircraft to provide air connectivity to places which have hitherto remained unconnected due to infrastructural challenges. Amphibious planes have the ability to take off and land from places that do not have landing strips and where no runway exists thus reaching areas where there is no other mode of transport available. Reliable, tough and resilient these smaller fixed wing aircraft can land on water bodies, gravel and grass.

32 | Tourism India | October 2017

Amphibious planes can take off and land both from short, unimproved strips and water bodies. Demo flights of the aircraft have been held in Nagpur and Guwahati. Japan’s Setouchi Holdings Inc., a pioneer in the small aircraft aviation industry, is a part of the Tsuneishi Group of Hiroshima Prefecture. Setouchi Holding owns QUEST, the manufacturer of specialized amphibious and non-amphibious range of aircraft globally. While SpiceJet today stands tall as the country’s largest regional player and has been among the pacesetters for the UDAN scheme kick starting three routes in the past three months and unveiling plans for more. This initiative further reiterates SpiceJet’s commitment for the regional connectivity scheme.

On the occasion, Mr. Ajay Singh – CMD, SpiceJet said, “Even while we are acknowledged as one of the world’s fastest growing markets, the ground reality remains that only about 3% Indians travel by air. Infrastructural challenges have been a key deterrent for providing air connectivity to smaller towns and cities. We are extremely delighted to join hands with Setouchi Holdings and look forward to exploring new opportunities that will help us serve our country better.” “SpiceJet has been a big supporter of the government’s UDAN scheme from the very beginning. With the ability to land in a small or confined space, smaller fixed wing aircrafts are the perfect flying machines that can effectively connect the country’s remote cities and airstrips which can in turn revolutionise the regional connectivity scheme.” “We are delighted to associate with SpiceJet for exploring opportunities in the field of aviation. We are happy to introduce Kodiak which will support this objective. Under this association, we have already executed land plane demonstrations in Nagpur and Guwahati. As a next step, we would also like to go for seaplane demonstration soon,” said Dr. Go Okazaki, Executive Managing Director, Setouchi Holdings Inc.

There are about 200 Kodiak Quest aircraft flying all over the world for the past 10 years. Small aircraft connectivity may have passengers paying lower fares than needed (in terms of cost) and hence we need support of Government of India. We hope that with these demonstrations, we would be able to impress upon the government, our willingness to go ahead with this project and have their support too. Despite tremendous growth in India’s civil aviation sector, air connectivity to smaller towns and cities has lagged behind as compared to the big metros mainly due to a lack of proper infrastructure. UDAN or the Regional Connectivity Scheme launched by the Indian government aims to bridge this gap by providing connectivity to un-served and under-served airports through revival of existing airstrips and airports Amphibious planes have a huge potential for use in tourism and adventure sports like sky diving. Besides leisure, they can also be used for emergency evacuations and to reach the hardest-to-reach areas. They can help penetrate into markets that are yet untapped.

Air New Zealand’s safety videos have collectively generated more than 108 million views online. Cuba Gooding Jr. says he wanted to get involved in Air New Zealand’s latest safety video as he does a lot of travelling and loves the fun and different approach. “They make you laugh, smile and pay a little bit more attention. I’ve also enjoyed working with Katie Holmes and Kiwi artist Gin Wigmore – her voice is enchanting and soothing, exactly what you need for safety video!” Air New Zealand General Manager of Global Brand and Content Marketing Jodi Williams says A Fantastical Journey will put all eyes on New Zealand by showcasing some of the best the country has to offer. “With the help of Hollywood stars Katie Holmes and Cuba Gooding Jr. our latest safety video takes viewers on a journey taking in New Zealand’s stunning

beauty, incredible culture, friendly people and amazing flora and fauna, while also sharing the airline’s key safety messages. “We’ve taken a different approach creatively with our latest safety video, working closely with our creative agency True, and Auckland-based production company Assembly throughout the process on the special effects to help take people on a magical tour of the country.” Gin Wigmore says she’s loved teaming up with Air New Zealand again after first working with the company on its first creative safety video the ‘Bare Essentials’ in 2009 which featured the hit ‘Under My Skin’ from her first album and then again more recently to record a version of the track ‘Tomorrow’ from the movie Annie for the airline’s Where To Next? campaign. “I feel privileged to record my own version of ‘My Little Corner of the World’ as it’s always a good challenge to re-produce a song, especially when it’s already so great. It’s also fantastic to see this track feature amongst some stunning New Zealand scenery, including my little corner of the world – the Coromandel.”
