Delights for all your senses …
If you’re planning your holiday on Lake Constance, why not simply spend it in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen!
Take a trip to the past! For a first-hand experience of what you always wanted to know about the Stone Age visit the largest open-air museum in southern Germany: the Lake dwelling Museum (Pfahlbaumuseum Unteruhldingen). The 45-60 minute guided tour back in time takes visitors through the settlement and offers them a hands-on experience of the daily life of Stone and Bronze Age settlers (4000 - 850 B.C.) on the shores of Lake Constance.
The Birnau Basilica is one of the highlights of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route. Surrounded by grape vines, the majestic pilgrimage church of Birnau stands tall above the bay of Maurach and offers a breath-taking panoramic view over Lake Constance, the Island Mainau, and as far as the Swiss Alps.
The beautiful promenade that stretches from the marina to the pile-dwellings is the ideal setting for rest and relaxation. From here, you can also rent a paddle or motorboat and explore the lake. Or relax at the natural sand and pebble beach with its own snack bar, for a day of swimming and relaxation. If you feel like playing a game of mini golf or billiard golf, the mini golf course is located on the promenade.
Centrally located between the towns of Überlingen and Meersburg, Uhldingen-Mühlhofen is a holiday destination ideally located for quick access to excursion spots all around the lake: The “Flower Island” of Mainau for example can be reached by boat in just a few minutes. Whether you are looking for a holiday by the beach, a short break, or a cycling holiday, the hotels and guest houses look forward to welcoming you. Discover the picturesque streets and waterfront or just relax at one of the various restaurants. Swimming, sailing, regional cuisine, the baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau, pile-dwellings, splendid landscapes, friendly hosts … These are just some of the delights that await you in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen!
The houses in the settlement display a wide variety of objects that Ötzi, the Iceman discovered in the Alps, used in his day-today life. Life-like scenes depicting human figures and animals, miniature models as well as objects that can be handled and the residential dwellings of the lake settlers offer a fascinating insight into the everyday life of Stone Age people.
