Let Art Inspire… What is the image that comes to mind when you hear the word, “art”? If you were 4 years old it may be something like a bowl of paint, a sheet of white paper and your fingers. If you were a bit older the word could conjure up visions of Van Gough’s Starry Night, an off Broadway production, or even Jimi Hendrix’s version of the national anthem. Art, whether hanging in the gallery or performed on the stage, provides an opportunity for inspiration. I invite you all to find inspiration this fall season through the various forms of art in the Town of Danville. What inspires me about art is that it reaches us at any age from 5 to 105. That accessibility reminds me that there is a little something out there for everyone. Our residents have the opportunity to take in an amazingly diverse array of exhibits and shows. This fall you can enjoy the Village Theatre by attending the Town’s Fall Preschool Performance Series, co-sponsored performances of Ah, Wilderness during the Eugene O’Neill Festival, Role Players Ensemble Theatre’s Incident at Vichy or the Danville Children’s Musical Theater’s presentation of The Little Mermaid Jr. You can also take the time to stop by the Art Gallery to see some of our many events, which includes James Fortune: A Rock and Roll Portfolio, 1969–1980, where you can see legendary images of Robert Plant, Jim Morrison, Elton John and more taken over a 30 year span. For budding young artists, we offer Young @ Art, where participants can learn about contemporary art practices in a kid-friendly environment. New this fall are Thursdays @ the VT where the Town will present top notch entertainment at the Village Theatre. Enjoy popular local bands as well as classic movies from yesteryear in the comfort of our beautiful state-of-the-art theatre. Art takes many forms for all of us and this is just a short list of the many things the Town of Danville has to offer. For more information about all the activities, events and performances take a peek at the Discover Danville Arts insert in our Activity Guide and find your inspiration!

We love being a part of Kids@Play; Ms. Shelly is so wonderful and warm with the kids. She remembers all their favorite things and makes an effort to incorporate that into the weekly curriculum. Since my children are not in preschool this is such a great positive space. They have learned so much and can’t wait for class each week!

Youth Basketball Program “Where the focus is on learning, not winning” Registration is limited to online and mail in only. Online registration is recommended.
Game Schedules:
The Town of Danville strongly believes in the benefits of participation in organized sports. Participation in athletics plays a valuable role in the development of children. We believe that by offering a program that focuses not on winning, but on sportsmanship, friendship, learning, and—most of all—fun, children will experience the positive side of organized sports and carry that into their everyday recreational experiences. Aspects of teamwork, dedication, discipline, physical fitness, self-esteem, and fair play all contribute to the overall growth and maturation of young people.

Mindfulness is a practice of learning how to be in the present moment. Through meditative breathing, mindfulness helps us slow down our busy lives and be aware of our moment-tomoment experience. It teaches how to free ourselves of the judgments we place on ourselves and others, have a clearer understanding of our emotions, and a deeper connection with our minds and bodies. Mindfulness also provides techniques for increasing empathy, compassion and gratitude. Its practice has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and improve quality of life.
