Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS

Mumm Napa Tasting/Gott’s Roadside Lunch

You must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Bus will be provided unless otherwise noted. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. All trips depart from Diablo Vista Park. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair. LEVEL 2: Small amount of walking LEVEL 3: Moderate to heavy walking LEVEL 4: Heavy amount of walking/standing LEVEL 5: Strenuous walking/hiking

Tuesday, September 18, 8:15 am-5:00 pm We will begin with a walkthrough and educational tour of Mumm Napa’s demonstration vineyard and learn all about the seasonal cycle of the vines, grape varietals, and their environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture. Learn how they blend their wines and get the bubbles into the bottle in their state-of-the art winery! The tour ends with a stroll through the fine art photography gallery housing a permanent exhibit of original photographs by Ansel Adams. The tour includes 4 tastes of sparkling wine along the tour path, a logo flute, and a 10% discount on wine purchases. Grandparents Day at the Oakland Zoo Sunday, September 9, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Come celebrate Grandparents Day at the Oakland Zoo with your grandchildren, strolling through the zoo while checking out the new California Trail (opened Summer of 2018) featuring bison, grizzly and black bears, bald eagles, gray wolves, jaguars and mountain lions. Enjoy the Children’s Zoo and rides and the new gondola! Grandparents receive a free train ride ticket; Gondola ride is included in your admission. Trip includes admission and transportation. Fleet Week Hornblower Lunch Cruise - San Francisco Sunday, October 7, 11:30 am–6:00 pm The Belle is a San Francisco landmark and the crown jewel from a bygone era. The sternwheeler features Art Nouveau style on all three enclosed levels, a spacious sun deck and three full wrap-around decks and provides an excellent vantage point to see the Fleet Week Air Show. Enjoy a hosted buffet lunch including freeflowing champagne with festive background music, then step onto the outer deck to watch the famous San Francisco Fleet Air Show! Wednesday, November 14, 9:00 am–3:00 pm Where Inspiration Takes Flight! The museum chronicles over a century of aviation history and provides a glimpse into air transportation’s future. Vintage and futuristic aircrafts, prototypes, photographic displays and models are on display. Be sure not to miss the Beginnings of Flight, the First Transcontinental Flight and Real Time Air Traffic Exhibits. Also included on this docent-led trip is the chance to see inside a 747 cockpit and so much more! Wednesday’s local food trucks come to the museum for a lunch of your choosing. Activity Level 3. Wednesday, October 24, 10:00 am–5:00 pm Enjoy lunch at the historical landmark, Moss Beach Distillery. Known as Frank’s Place during Prohibition, the San Mateo Coast was an ideal spot for rum running, bootleggers and “speakeasies.” The Moss Beach Distillery is also well known for its famous ghost, “The Blue Lady.” The popular NBC TV series Unsolved Mysteries recreated a haunting version of “The Legend of the Blue Lady.” A preset lunch menu and Ghosts at the old speakeasy! After lunch enjoy a short stop in the quaint town of Half Moon Bay for a little shopping before heading back to Danville. Happy Halloween! Fees: $55(R) $66(N)

Special Events Historic Downtown Danville Walking Tour and Lunch at Bridges Wednesday, September 5, 9:45 am–12:45 pm Enjoy a morning stroll with a docent-led tour through downtown Danville. Learn about Danville’s historic structures, building origins, street names and about the people who once lived here and shaped our wonderful community. After the tour, enjoy a delicious three-course lunch at Bridges, with a little history of its own! Wear good walking shoes! Activity Level 4. “Walk-tober” - 5K Walk for Your Health

AdVANtures What’s more exciting than an adventure in a van? A 15-seater van will be driven by staff to the designated destination to provide a smaller, more intimate trip experience. No restrooms are available on the van, but bathroom stops are possible! Register early, trips may be cancelled two weeks ahead of time if enrollment is low.

Friday, October 5, 9:00 am–1:30 pm Come and walk for your health with a 5K walk in downtown and then celebrate with lunch at the Danville Senior Center. Brisk walking is great exercise, and can increase your heart rate and breathing, keep you healthy, improve your fitness, and facilitate with performing your daily tasks. Don’t forget to stop for special treats and health information at the booths along the course. Get outside for your health and take a walk with friends! Monday, December 3, 9:30 am–3:30 pm Location: Danville Senior Center, Community Hall C Medicare open enrollment is from Oct. 15-Dec. 7, 2018. It’s important to review your Medicare prescription drug or HMO plan each year. Plans often change their benefits and costs, or your needs may have changed. Registered counselors with Contra Costa HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) will be at the Danville Senior Center on Dec. 3 from 10 am to 2 pm to review your Medicare coverage and make sure you have the best option for 2019. You may be able to save money. For best results, complete a worksheet in advance and schedule an appointment. Worksheets are available at the Senior Center or download one at www.cchicap.org. Call HICAP at 925-602-4163 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins may also be helped at this event. HICAP offers free, impartial service and doesn’t sell or endorse any products.

Oral Health After 50 – Common Dental Issues Tuesday, October 9, 10:00 am–11:00 am Presenter: Aminda Modrell, D.D.S. Location: Danville Senior Center As we age, we notice many changes in our body related to dermatology, cardiology, dentistry, as well as other specialties. Come learn about common issues that occur related to dental care, such as how to prolong restorations you already have, and how to prevent the necessity of further restorations. Learn about the benefits of maintaining oral health and hygiene and join the “90’s club,” patients who still retain all of their teeth and are benefitting from preventive dentistry.

Cannabis Health & Wellness Tuesday, October 16, 10:00 am–11:00 am Learn about cannabis treatment options from a Certified Medical Cannabis Educator, Laurie Light. During this free one-hour educational event, Laurie will review the plant’s medicinal history & provide an overview of the plant’s natural compounds, including CBD and THC, and how they interact with the body. This presentation will discuss how the plant works and provide information to promote informed decisions about cannabis and its role in wellness and pain management. The intent of this session is to provide information and share knowledge about today’s cannabis options, many of which include low-dose, nonintoxicating formulas with minimal side effects. Many are surprised to learn there are a variety of delivery methods and it is not necessary to smoke it nor to experience being ‘high’ to reap the medical benefits. This event is educational only and will include a Q&A after the presentation. There will be no sales or consumption of the product.

We will provide an overview of the 2019 changes affecting national Medicare Prescription and Advantage Plans, your coverage options and receive helpful handouts. Pain Management Workshop Tuesday, November 6, 10:00 am–11:00 am Presenter: Johnny Pirruccello, Egoscue of Walnut Creek Location: Danville Senior Center Egoscue is a proven postural therapy method that gets to the root of your chronic pain by returning your body to proper alignment, function and balance. Our trained Egoscue therapists work with you to develop a series of gentle corrective exercises that may not only alleviate your pain, but may prevent pain and injuries and improve athletic performance. Hearing Health Tips Tuesday, November 20, 10:00 am – 11:00 am Presenter: Kelly Absher Location: Danville Senior Center This discussion will focus on hearing health and common communication tips. We will have a relaxed setting in which attendees can openly ask questions. MedIDs Tuesday, December 11, 10:00 am–11:00 am Presenter: Leah Madonich Location: Danville Senior Center Medical ID cards store your most important health information in one place. In a medical emergency, you may not be able to tell first responders about your specific health conditions, which may prevent medical personnel from properly diagnosing you. Medical cards assist responders and medical professionals reach a faster diagnosis, provide correct treatment and eliminate errors. If you would like to make a Medical ID Card for your wallet, please bring insurance information, emergency contact, physicians’ numbers and preferred hospital name. We can also include medical history, medications and allergies. We will gather all this information and make a single laminated wallet card.
