ROLE PLAYERS ENSEMBLE THEATRE 10
There is a phrase from Hamlet , “thinking makes it so.” Thinking can bring joy or terror at a moment’s notice. Thinking can change people’s feelings from one second to the next. Thinking can either color an individual’s inner world or change an entire society. With this in mind, Role Players presents a season of plays that explores the various ways thinking can shape the reality of the world in which we live.

The Playboy of the Western World A young man comes to town with a wild story about killing his father. Instead of condemning him, the people of the village are fascinated with the tale and elevate the young man to hero status until his “story” follows him to town. Synge’s satire caused riots when it first opened and has been met with riotous laughter many times since. The most Irish of Irish plays, Playboy embodies the very spirit of telling tales!legendary John Millington Synge promises to make you laugh, ponder, and wonder about the big questions.
Angel Street (Gaslight)
Animal farm
The Rover
By: George Orwell
By: Aphra Behn
By: Patrick Hamilton
February 2 - 18, 2018
April 13 – April 29, 2018
October 20 –November 5, 2017
After years of being held under the power of humans, the animals have driven man from the farm. Being considered the smartest of farm animals, the pigs decide to gather the animals together to establish a new “egalitarian” social order in contrast to the oppression experienced under man for centuries. Is such a society possible? George Orwell, who recently returned to the ranks of best-seller, spins a cautionary tale for our time and all times.
Willmore, Belvile, Fredrick and Ned are sailors on shore leave seeking adventure and love. Each of them has a different idea of what constitutes said adventure and love. All of them meet their match in one way or another in this exceedingly funny restoration romp. Aphra Behn, a playwright and woman ahead of her time, truly launched the phrase “the battle of the sexes.”
Isabella Manningham fears she is going mad under the influence of her mysterious and dashing new husband. The stakes become deadly when a detective arrives with a theory about Mr. Manningham’s sinister motivations. Best known under the title Gaslight after its successful screen adaptation, Angel Street is a Victorian thriller that still resonates today.
