GUEST DIRECTORY Great Northern Inn Havre, Montana

A Tribute to our Founder The management and staff of the Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn would like to pay a special tribute to Bill Dritshulas, Sr. and his wife, Bonnibelle. Bill Dritshulas, Sr. was born in 1890 in Greece. He migrated to America at the age of 15 to join his older brothers already living in the Havre area. Originally working for the Great Northern Railway, he opened a small corner store, Billy’s Meat Market, in 1919 and by 1932 a full line of groceries had been added. In 1946 a small farm building from his Paradise Valley farm was moved and attached to the back of Billy’s Meat Market, and the Duck Inn Tavern was created. We are often asked why the tavern was called Duck Inn. Mr. Dritshulas was keenly interested in Early American taverns. He thought the name Duck Inn was unique and Early American. By 1949, the Duck Inn expanded to include a small cafe. Then, in 1950, a small three-unit motel was added to accommodate the tourist trade on busy Highway 2, expanding to the present Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn Annex. Bill Dritshulas, Sr. passed away in 1967, but his legacy continues. His son, Bill Dritshulas, Jr., has carried on the family legacy. Bill, Sr. would be very proud of the current Duck Inn Corporation. The Dritshulas family businesses include the Duck Inn Tavern & Garden Room, Casino, Mediterranean Bistro, Olympic Grande Ballroom, Emporium Food & Fuel Store, Havre RV Park, Emporium Station Casino, Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn, Miss Trudy’s Poolside Casino, Best Western Plus Havre Inn & Suites, and Murphy’s Pub. We salute our founder, Bill Dritshulas, Sr., and his wife, Bonnibelle, for their hard work, courage, and vision. We dedicate the Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn to their memory.

WELCOME WELCOME to the Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn! It is our pleasure to provide an atmosphere you will find to be both friendly and helpful in accommodating your every need. Whether you are here for business or pleasure, we want you to feel at home. The Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn opened its doors in August 1998. A great deal of planning went into making our hotel the best in Havre. The great northern goat on our property logo, used throughout the hotel, symbolizes the Great Northern Railway. Havre is a historic town, founded in the late 1800s by the founder of the Great Northern Railway, James J. Hill. Hill was known as the “Empire Builder” because in the late 19th century he had successfully reorganized several failing railroads into a transcontinental railroad that reached the Pacific Northwest. In 1929, the Great Northern Railway named the Empire Builder passenger train in honor of Hill. Our town is an agricultural, medical, and business center and is the largest city on Montana’s Hi-Line. We have prepared this directory to acquaint you with our hotel and amenities, our neighborhood, and our local attractions. Thank you for selecting the Best Western Plus Great Northern Inn. We look forward to serving you on future visits to historic Havre and the beautiful Montana Hi-Line.

SAFETY & SECURITY Please review the location of exits, alarms, and fire equipment on your floor as soon after check-in as is practical. A copy of your guest floor plan is located near the door of your guest room. Also, know how to open and close your guest room window if designed to do so.

SAFETY PROCEDURES

IF THE FIRE IS IN YOUR ROOM:

1. When you are in your room, be sure to use the deadbolt lock. Also check to see that connecting doors are secure. Use the peephole before opening your door and be sure the door is closed properly when you depart your room. All employees wear uniforms and name tags.

• • •

2. Do not leave valuables out in the room. To protect them, bring them to the Front Desk for placement in one of our free safe deposit boxes. The hotel cannot be responsible for valuables left in your room. 3. Please help us conserve energy and resources by making sure all lights, appliances, and faucets are turned off when not in use.

FIRE SAFETY Please review the location of exits, alarms, and fire equipment on your floor as soon after check-in as is practical. A copy of your guest floor plan is located on the back of your door. Know how to turn off your air conditioner and how to open and close your guest room window. In case of fire: • Keep your room key with you at all times. • Use the stairs to exit, not the elevators. • Stay low in smoky areas. • Remain calm.

Leave the room and close the door. Activate the nearest alarm box, if possible. Call the hotel operator on the nearest phone by dialing “0” and specify the location of the fire. Go to the nearest stairwell and walk down to the ground floor.

Take your room key with you. Touch the door handle and frame to see if they are hot. If the door handle and frame are not hot: open the door carefully, keeping low as you do so. If possible, go to the nearest stairwell and go down to exit the building or enter a safe floor.

IF THE DOOR IS HOT: • • • • • • •

Stay in your room and keep the door shut. Turn off the air conditioner. Fill the bathtub with water so you have a water supply. Place wet towels along the bottom of the door and over any vents where there is smoke. Dial “0” to let the hotel operator know your location. Stay low below any smoke in the room. Stay calm.

The eroded “badlands” exposed along the Milk River road just north of Havre combine geology, paleontology, and scenery in a short 5-mile drive. Fossils found in these badlands prove the existence of marine animals, dinosaurs, other reptiles, and even tropical plants in this area millions of years ago. Though much of the area is under private ownership requiring permission to trespass, the easy, short drive is interesting and rewarding.
