Fire & Safety Information Take Precautions! 1. As soon as you check in, look around and decide on an emergency escape plan. Locate the nearest fire exits and fire alarm and count the number of doors between exits and your room so you can find them in the dark. 2. Always keep your key handy near your bed. Study your room for escape routes and always take your key if you leave in an emergency. Carry a small flashlight, if possible. 3. Avoid panic. Panic and smoke are your worst enemies. KNOW WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FIRE. In Case of Fire, Act Fast... 1. Report smoke or fire to the Hotel Operator immediately, dial 0. State your name, room number and give a brief description of the situation. 2. Feel the door. If the door or knob is hot, don’t open it. If You Stay In Your Room… 1. Stay low to the floor and tie wet cloth over your nose and mouth for easier breathing. (Note: this won’t filter out deadly gases.) 2. Signal for help by using telephone, waving a sheet, flashing lights, etc. To reach the Fire Department, dial 911. 3. Fill the bathtub with water. Stuff wet towels and sheets in cracks around doors and vents. Turn off air conditioners and fans. 4. Vent any smoke from the room using the bathroom vent (unless it draws in smoke). Open window slightly if there’s no smoke outside. Don’t break glass unless absolutely necessary - you may need to close it later. 5. Throw water onto hot surfaces (walls, doors) using ice bucket or a wastebasket. Remove curtains and wet down window if fire is right outside. 6. Don’t jump from above the Second Floor - you could be seriously injured. Wait to be rescued. If You Decide To Leave Your Room... 1. Take your key, keep a wet cloth tied over your nose and mouth, close door behind you and yell or knock on doors to warn others. STAY LOW. 2. If there’s no smoke, walk to the nearest smoke-free stairway. If there’s smoke or it’s dark, crawl to exit, counting doors. Never Use An Elevator In a Fire - You Could Become Trapped Inside! These recommendations are only suggestions. Use your own best judgment. The safety and security of your personal property are of the utmost concern to us. We urge you to take advantage of the following suggestions. SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES: DO NOT LEAVE MONEY OR VALUABLES IN YOUR ROOM. We provide safe deposit boxes for your use in our Front Office at no charge. Under state law, the hotel is not responsible for loss unless articles have been secured properly in these boxes. DOUBLE LOCKS AND CHAINS: For additional security while in your room, use the deadbolt lock provided on your door upon entering. This will prevent the door from being opened by a regular room key. As an additional precaution, please secure the safety chain lock. ADMITTANCE: Do not admit persons to your room without first making identification. A “viewer” is provided in your door for your convenience. If there is any doubt about the person’s identity, please contact the Front Desk. REGISTERED GUESTS ARE AUTHORIZED FOR ROOM KEYS ONLY: Photo I.D. required. KEYS: Safeguard your key. Be sure to leave it with the cashier upon departure. Do not leave it in your room or in the door. Do not give your key to others. FIRE: Please familiarize yourself with the location of the nearest fire exit stairway. In the unlikely event of a fire, please move quickly, but calmly, to the stairs. Avoid the use of elevators. Report fire or smoke to the Operator. 8

History Of Port Washington “City Of Seven Hills” Port Washington is the County Seat of Ozaukee County, founded in 1835 and originally called Wisconsin City. Initially the city served as a lake port, having a pier instead of a harbor. Its harbor, the first artificial harbor in the country, was dredged in 1867 and was modernized in 1935. The present population is approximately 10,000.

The city is growing and will steadily continue to do so as new industries make it their home. Today, the lakefront is highlighted by the marina. Its large pleasure boat fleet, as well as the Port’s many charter fishing boats and its many fine restaurants, enhance its image as a tourist destination. Port Washington’s founders were Yankees, but most of the settlers of the area were from Luxemburg, followed by Germans and Lithuanians. It is not unusual to hear these languages spoken in local stores. Although increasingly closer to the growing Milwaukee metropolitan area, the city has maintained most of its unique characteristics over the years. Port Fish Day “The World’s Largest One-Day Outdoor Fish Fry” is celebrated the third Saturday of July each year in Port Washington. Fish Day has become one of the area’s outstanding attractions, offering family entertainment throughout the day. Among the traditional events are the giant parade, and fish and chips stands where golden fried fish and succulent fried potatoes are sold along with refreshments. Other activities include music, a craft fair, displays and an abundance of attractions that guarantee visitors a good time. Volunteers plan the day, which is unique in that it is a community affair. The stands are by local social, civic and religious organizations, with all proceeds returned to the community. Each year the attractions are expanded, changed to provide more entertainment and designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. Ozaukee Interurban Trail The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is a 30-mile, paved, mostly off-road, multi-use transportation and recreation trail that crosses Ozaukee County from north and south, passing through 8 of the County’s 16 communities. The trail not only accommodates all-season, non-motor vehicle recreational uses, such as hiking, walking, running, biking, rollerblading, wildlife viewing and skiing, but also is an integral feature in connecting Ozaukee County’s commuters to places of employment, business, industry, historic places and commerce. The trail is one of the popular northshore bike routes for the summer and fall. The route is relatively calm with decent roads and has nice views of the lake.
