Important Altitude Information
At 8,750 feet in Telluride, there is about 30 percent less oxygen than at sea level. Regardless of physical fitness, Acute Mountain Sickness can strike anyone not acclimated to the elevation. To ward off altitude sickness, drink three to four quarts of water per day and avoid overexertion, caffeine and alcohol for the first few days. If headache, fatigue or shortness of breath persists, seek medical attention. The Telluride Medical Center is located at 500 W. Pacific. 970.728.3848 Alcohol–The effects of alcohol are often heightened due to the altitude. It takes a small amount before you start to feel it. Drink a bit less than you may be used to and you’ll feel better in the morning. Sun–Telluride’s bluebird days may call you out into the great outdoors, but be careful. The sun is stronger in Telluride, as we are closer to it with less of the earth’s atmosphere to filter its rays. ALWAYS wear sunblock with a high SPF factor, even on cloudy days, as UV rays can penetrate clouds. There is nothing worse than a bright red face and raccoon eyes from your sunglasses or goggles! Dressing for the Weather. The weather in Telluride changes fast, so dress and plan accordingly. Layering is one of the best methods of dressing to combat the elements. You can take clothes off and on as needed. Once the sun goes behind the mountains, the temperature drops rapidly. In the winter, watch out for frostbite. If you feel pain, tingling or numbness in your fingers, toes, nose or ears, go inside and warm up. Frostbite can be very painful if not caught soon enough. Summertime brings frequent thunderstorms, so be prepared with a rain jacket and watch out for lightning.

Safety and Security
Your safety and security are of the utmost concern to us. Please familiarize yourself with the safety guidelines provided in this directory. If a security need arises, please contact the Front Desk for immediate attention.
FIRE SAFETY The hotel is protected by the most up-to-date fire prevention devices and alarm systems. Please make yourself aware of the emergency procedures listed here to further enhance your safety and security.
YOUR BEST DEFENSE AGAINST FIRE IS TO PLAN AHEAD. • Locate two exits nearest your room. Be sure they are unlocked and unblocked. Then count the doors between your room and exits so you’ll have a reference point if it is smoky or dark. • When you hear an alarm, ACT, don’t simply investigate. • If the fire is in your room, get out and close the door. Alert your neighbors. Once out, report the fire. • If the fire is not in your room, leave if you can. First, feel the door. If it is cool, open it slowly and go to the nearest exit. Crawl if there is smoke. Fresher air will be at the floor. • Never use elevators during a fire. They could stop at the fire floor. • If your door is hot, don’t open it. Your room may be the safest place to be. Seal all cracks with wet towels. Shut off fans and air conditioners. Signal from your window. Call the fire department and wait to be rescued.
KEY REPLACEMENT For your protection, positive identification will be required to issue additional or replacement room keys.

CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS We are very serious about maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for our guests at The Hotel Telluride and for our neighbors, especially the students at the adjacent Middle/High School. For that reason we ask that you observe the following guidelines: • Boisterous behavior, loud music or partying is not allowed inside or outside of The Hotel Telluride. TRAVELER SAFETY TIPS • Don’t answer the door in a hotel room without verifying who is there. If a person claims to be an employee, call the Front Desk and ask if someone from their staff is supposed to have access to your room and for what purpose. • When returning to your room late in the evening, use the main entrance of the hotel. Be observant and look around before entering parking lots and before leaving your vehicle. • Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and use all the locking devices provided. • Do not needlessly display guest room keys in public or leave them carelessly on restaurant tables, or other places where they might be stolen. • Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry. • Do not invite strangers to your room for any reason. • Place all valuables in your room safe. • Do not leave valuables in your car. • Check to see that any windows, deck doors and connecting room doors are locked. • If you are traveling with children, provide adult supervision and know their whereabouts at all times. • If you see any suspicious activity, please report your observations to the management.
