Steiny’s Spiel The President’s Report

Hi all, Well, only two weeks away from our Bowraville, "Christmas in July", so break out your long Johns, because it's going to be bloody cold. Some of the guys n' gals are going to stay in Beaudesert on the Friday night to save them the torture of riding all the way down there in the coldest part of the day, predawn ! I'm looking forward to it. Our annual pilgrimage to the Laverda Concourse was another great day with a lot of members attending. We had plenty of food, and the hot coffee and bacon & egg burgers were very welcome, as it was more than a little nippy down there this morning. At first we all thought it might be a fizzer, as there weren't too many people there for a while, but as it started to warm up, the crowd eventually began to build up too. All in all, I think everyone enjoyed themselves and it was great to have plenty of helpers setting up and packing up at the end of it. A better billy boiling arrangement will be the order of the day for next year, as we had to wait for ages for our coffee, while freezing our butts off. Don't forget our meeting on Tuesday night. I look forward to seeing everyone there. Cheers Steiny "A man has got to know his limitations"

Hi all, I arrived at the BP early, as I was expecting a visitor and wife on a BMW to join us. We had a decent roll up. Ned. me, Scouse & son, Jak, Pyro , Phoenix, Mac & son in law, Yogi, Rob & Connie, plus the visitor on the BMW. Jak offered to lead the ride for me as he knows I get a bit bushed at the back of Currumbin valley area, so I went TEC. We headed off at 9 sharp, went straight through to Advancetown pub for our first bum break. The Beamer couple decided to bail and go and visit some rellies on the gold coast. We then headed off for lunch at Tyalgum, but unfortunately, Ned came off her bike on a corner and sustained injuries that needed hospitalization. She had broken her left shoulder, dislocated all her fingers on the same hand, and ended up with a real shiner. Mac and I hotfooted it home to my place to get Mac’s bike trailer, while the others comforted Ned and waited for the Ambos. By the time all business was attended to, we had a late lunch at the BP at Coomera and all headed home from there. Cheers Steiny

Hi All Pyro here. Today’s West ride was taken by me today, Yogi joined us for breakfast but could not make the ride, so asked if I would fill in, felt like old times leading a West run. We left a little late but made good time going through to Rosewood and turning left to wards Road Vale. Before we hit Harrisville we turned right and travelled some back streets towards Kalbar, we had few surprises until just out side of Kalbar when we came across some cut grass covering the road, it must have just been mowed as it was all over the road and in some patches is was a foot deep. We had no way of knowing so the few hundred metres or so was very slow and cautious going. We got to Kalbar and stopped at the Local bakery on the corner, a short stop and then back on the bikes, Winnie said her bike needed fuel so we headed into Boonah to the BP, on the way I saw something shinny on the road so decided

to go around it and just as well, It was a very pretty carpet snake crossing the road, as I past it I was pointing at. It and saw its head moving, those following me realised the issue and all went wide to avoid the snake. After Winnie filled up with fuel we headed towards Moogerah dam and then the back way over Croftby and down to the Rathdowney Boonah turn off where we decided to turn left and go to the pub at Dugandan for Lunch. It was already 12.30 when we got to the pub and we had a 40min wait on food which gave us a Good chance to chin wag. After lunch we chose to call the ride and all head for home, Steiny, Phoenix and I Turned right at Yamanto and Winnie and Worker went straight through to Ipswich and home. A short ride today but a good ride all the same. See you on the next one. Pyro

ide Hi All Pyro here, Sunday the 1st of July was a North ride and as Mac was out of town I took this one. We had two Visitors in Steve and Nicole, (formally Nomad and Storm) and me. Seeing as there was just the two bikes we changed the ride and went over clear mountain first and then past Old Petrie town where there was an event happening as people were everywhere. We went at a nice cruising pace arriving at Wamuran around 10.40 am for our first stop and a chin wag. It was great to catch up with them and looking forward to many more rides with great people alike. The weather was just raining very lightly and after the night before I was spent, it was suggested we call the ride there and with no objections we left about 11.30 for home via the freeway. Just as well I was falling asleep riding home and pretty much crashing when I did get home. See you on the next one. Pyro

Ride Captain Pyro Riders Ace Mac Rob Scouse Aiden Drastic and SuzieQ TEC Hippy and Roach 13

ide Hi all Pyro here, Today’s ride was a Rider’s choice and I had an idea and put my hand up to try some less ridden roads. We had a good turn out with eight bikes and two pillions today and Yogi joined us for breakfast but could not make the ride, it was good to see him even if it was just at the beginning. We left a little late but the road was nice and dry and the sun was out and shining. We headed for Tamborine and went up the mountain with few delays just at the top was a little slow with traffic, going down the back way towards Upper Coomera where we turned right into Kriedeman Road and through the valley for some good turns and great views. I took them on a loop and then headed back towards Tamborine Mountain up Mystery Road towards Henry Roberts Road. I had to apologise for that, as that was one very steep climb, and some hair pin turns, I was of the opinion that we had never done that road but in hindsight I think a past ride Captain took us that way about four or five years ago.

I think I know why we don’t go that way often now, most said they enjoyed the hill climb but that is not a road for the light hearted and I was glad that those on the ride were experienced riders. We pulled into Advancetown and sat in the sun to try and warm up. After a short break and drink we had a few leave us , Scouse and his son Aiden had to go and Hippy and Roach left as well. Hippy was having issues with his brakes and considering the roads I was taking it was probably a good idea. We headed down Latimers Crossing Road and then turned up a road called the Panorama, headed down through Tallai and down to the freeway where unfortunately there was a traffic jam happening, so we all went down the left side of the freeway and turned off at the West Burleigh and followed the road to the Tomewin Mountain Road and around Murwillumbah and right for 14

Tyalgum. We arrived at Tyalgum just before one and enjoyed a well deserved lunch and had a bit of a chin wag while there. After lunch the ride home was straight up the Nimbin Valley to the service station at Mooyumbin Creek for some fuel and our goodbyes. The ride was approx. 300km for most. A good day’s ride with great friends. I’m not keeping score but I think I found three road works today and it seems like nearly every ride I take these days I find road works and get stopped by either lights or people with stop signs, when Phoenix and I were away it was a running joke that I found road works every day and true to form today was no exception. At least they are fixing the roads. See you on the next one. Pyro

Laverda 2018 Held at the Cleveland Showgrounds it was a rather chilly start to the day, followed by brilliant blue skies and a good turnout by our club members with 9 club bikes on display. A big thanks goes out to the early risers who braved the cold weather to set up the club marquee. There was quite a bit of interest at our display with Jak, Boots and Pyro chatting to the punters and handing out club business cards. Another great day spent with a fab group of people. Great to see you guys there.
