THE BIMMER MONTHLY August 2019 This month brought to you by: Upcoming Events German Club Lunch

Sunday 25th August, 12 Noon

The iconic German Club is the place to go to enjoy the best in cuisine and beers from the home of BMWs. If you have not tried their Pork Knuckles, you are in for a treat. There is limited parking beside the club just opposite the Gabba at 416 Vulture Street, East Brisbane and ample street parking close by. Come along for a very social Sunday lunch and share some great food and drinks with friends.

Presidents Message Another hectic month has past and we are very pleased with the result. Without a doubt, the feature event of the month, if not the year was RACQ Motorfest at Eagle Farm Racecourse. We had the amazing help of Ian Solomon and other club members to plan, set up and administer the day. We also had an interesting and successful monthly meeting at Brisbane BMW with a special presentation by the team from the Brisbane BMW Bodyshop. We Facebook Live streamed the meeting and it was great to see the interactivity of that technology where members watching could post questions to the speakers. Gary C.J. Schweikert #1522

On Sunday 14th July, BMW Club Queensland held its annual Show of Excellence Vehicle Display as part of RACQ Motorfest. This was one of the largest events held by the club and certainly one of the most prominent, popular, interesting, colourful and fun. All cars were placed in appropriate klasses and categories for judging, with a variety of cars from old to new as well as two special BMW race cars. There was a lot of interest in our display and we were able to sell a range of our club merchandise and also signed up a number of new members. The winners of the Show of Excellence will be announced at the Celebrations & Awards Night in September. PHOTOS HERE

BMW M6 GT3 Around the World - BMW Motorsport

Round 7 Sprint Series at Lakeside

Another season of the BMW M6 GT3 in international GT racing is over. The top model from the BMW Motorsport Customer Racing programme has claimed numerous wins and titles in a range of race series, including victory in the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in the 2016 debut season.

Saturday 13th Sept 7:30am - 4:00pm

Its been a while since we have been back at Lakeside for an all day sprint session. What better way to enjoy a Black Friday than some laps at our favourite home track. Bring your black car or your flying broom, wear your black race suit or just pat a black cat, but don't miss out on another enjoyable day at Lakeside. With costs starting from just $195 for members for a full day, clearly the best value track experience available, its time to get your entries in. NOTE: Please be mindful of the ongoing noise issues at Lakeside, if you think your car may be over the noise limit, visit a muffler shop and have it checked and the exhaust modified if necessary, better than being excluded from the day once you are there. This video with over five minutes of race footage and fans’ reactions shows just how much thrill the BMW M6 GT3 has provided around the globe.

It features our Vice President/Social Secretary Leanne Tymms who was at Bathurst with her husband Greg when this video was being filmed.

28th July 2019 - Brekky Run To Glenagallan Homestead

20 cars with 32 people set off in two groups from the Puma service centre at Dinmore just after 7:00am on a perfect Brisbane mid-winter morning. It was great to see Robert Fulton and Russell and Kerri Thomas back out for their second run in as many months as new members. The first stage of the route took us via Walloon, Rosewood, Grandchester and Blenheim to a comfort stop at Lake Apex Park at Gatton. It was very sad to see how dry conditions were with just a trickle of water in the lake. Group one departed the park just as group 2 arrived – perfect, if lucky, timing.

The second stage went via Ma Ma Creek and Heifer Creek through even more very dry conditions to Glengallan Homestead. The first group arrived at 9:15am and were followed shortly after by group 2. John and Gina Hing from Warwick and Brian and Melanie Alderton from Toowoomba met up with the main contingent at Glengallan. After everyone enjoyed a full buffet breakfast, we took a tour of the once stately, but now slowly decaying, homestead and were permitted to arrange all the cars at the front entrance of the homestead for group photos and a video clip. And then it was time to head off to Warwick for Jazz and Jumpers or home. Tim Dunne was welcomed in as a new member.

All feedback from the participants was good with the new run guidelines and procedures getting a big thumbs up. 20 vehicle 32 people. PHOTOS HERE
