THE BIMMER NEWS July to September 2021 President’s Message Hi and welcome to another issue of our eNewsletter. We are going through a very busy time of year with the club, and I’m pleased to report that after our AGM in June, the committee is up and running and Leanne Tymms is doing an excellent job as editor getting “The Bimmer” out to you all. We are seeing a good response to our varied social, drive and motorsport events and it seems that whatever we offer, there is always a very good roll up of members, old and new. Speaking of membership, John Payne has done a fantastic job of implementing the new logo/membership card policy. Now you have a perpetual membership card, and we no longer have to go through the process of printing and posting about 400 cards annually. So you can find out more information and always have access to your membership information, our club software has a mobile app that you can download, log in and show upcoming events, events you have booked and your membership information. For a complete explanation and ‘How to use” the “Wild Apricot for Members” app, follow this link (CLICK HERE) to the blog page on our club website. In this issue, you will find reports on the Lunch Run to Dugandan Pub, King Ludwig’s Christmas in July, Leyburn Sprints 25th Anniversary, Lunch run to The Barn & Scotty’s Garage, the Whale Watching day trip, the latest Membership and Motorsport Reports, a Blast from the Past, interesting news items, plans for next year’s National Meet in Canberra and information about our 30th year Anniversary “Bubbles & Bow Tie” Gala Dinner. This Gala dinner at Sirromet Winery will be a very special event and will also be the trophy presentation event for our annual Show of Excellence. Get in quickly for a booking as the tickets are almost sold out and we still have two months to go.
As with all clubs, there are always members coming and going and I’m pleased to see that there are a lot of new and returning members. I have noticed that the ///M2 has been a great asset to the club as we are getting a lot of new members signing up who have just bought one of these great cars, and sometimes, it’s their first BMW. Also with membership, our system automatically sends out reminders to you about your renewal and we have noticed that there are many of these that, for some reason, are not getting through. Can you please keep your eye on your junk mail folder as we have been getting reports they are ending up there! We are enjoying a great relationship with Club Mini Queensland and have been sharing events with them and have also been invited to some of their events as well. This is great to see and relieves some of the workload from our committee when someone else does all the organising. Thank you, Club Mini Queensland. I’d also like to thank our various sponsors and the BMW dealer network for their ongoing support, especially Brisbane & Westside BMW where we hold our monthly meetings. If you get a chance, please support our supporters, and let them know that you are a club member when you do. If you missed any of our recent Club meetings, here is the video for: August:

Some Festive Celebrations
Lunch Run to Dugandan Pub - Sunday 11 th July
King Ludwig’s Christmas in July - Saturday 24th
We all started off at the Puma Bundamba and headed up the Warrego Highway towards Marburg. Turned off and took the back roads towards Boonah. There was an unplanned U turn that gave everyone the opportunity to wave to each other as we backtracked to where we should have been heading. We all managed to arrive at the Dugandan Pub and ordered a refreshing beverage and a typical lunch meal. There was live music which added to the enjoyment of the afternoon and was very relaxing. After everyone had refueled we all made our way back home. A very enjoyable day for sure. HERE is more fun on the day. .
A very enthusiastic number of club members all made the trek to have a celebration of Christmas in July at King Ludwig’s Maleny. All in all we had just shy of 60 people attend, we actually had booked out the restaurant. Many elected to stay for the night so we all were looking forward to a great evening and not having to do the long drive home. Others were more diehard and would make their way home after the festivities.
We started with drinks on the balcony looking at the wonderful view at sunset. Started to get a bit chilly but there was plenty of liquid cheer to warm everyone up.
The hostess for the night Barbara looked after everyone amazingly well and there was lots of festive participation in the games and dancing. Definitely a wonderful time for sure. More Photos and antics here.

Leyburn Sprints 25 th Anniversary - 11 th September.
Lunch run to The Barn & Scotty’s Garage 19 th September.
Once again, we all met at the Puma Bundamba to fuel up on coffee before 35 of us headed out to the 25 th Anniversary of the Leyburn Sprints. We left at 9.00am with an anticipated arrival time of 10.30am in time to view the scheduled events at the track. BUT we encountered a bicycle race that presented a major hiccup to our progress along the Maa Maa Creek road. We were not able to pass the peleton of 80 riders with support vehicles so we had to make a decision to backtrack and go a different way. Managed to turn off through the Flagstone Creek area and arrived at our destination about 20 minutes later. Once we were parked we were all able to walk to various viewing areas of the track and enjoy the racing that was being contested. Turned out to be a great day and people enjoyed their time and left when they had seen what they wanted. Have a look at some of the sights of the day.
Meeting at our usual location of Puma Bundamba we prepared to follow the instructions as laid down by Russell Maguire to reach our destination of The Barn and Scotty’s Garage at Flagstone. Ironically we travelled some of the route that we had done the previous weekend so sites were familiar. Once we arrive at the venue we parked in the grassed area and all went in to order our meals. Luckily we were under cover as it was very hot outside. Once lunch was finished those of us who wanted to were able to visit the museum across the way. It was a very interesting place to find all sorts of memorabillia. A big thanks to Russell for organizing this run as it was a very enjoyable day for sure. Here is a Video of the day.

BMWCQ Events Whale Watching Saturday 28 th August. Well, this was an event that was very popular with the club members and a bunch of us all gathered at the Redcliffe Jetty to board the boat at Brisbane Whale Watching. The weather was wonderful, the boat large enough for everyone and the ocean was very calm so that made a perfect combination for the day. Captain Kerry has many years of experience in knowing where the whales will be and it took no time at all to find the pods enjoying the waters off Moreton Island. It was wonderful to see these creatures in their natual habitat and to be so close to them. It was a photographers paradise and some amazing shots were taken by many on board. A tasty lunch was part of the package and everyone had a marvelous day. Have a look at more of the spectacular photos of the day. It certanly was a day to remember.
So the last three months had lots to entertain our members and the next three will be the same to finish off the year. MAIN EVENT is our 30 th Year Anniversary Gala Dinner Saturday 4th December - so make sure you get in and book. Limited numbers which are getting less each day. This will be a wonderful night to enjoy celebrating all that is great about the Club with special presentation of BMWCQ history, Announcement of Show of Excellence Winners and LIVE entertainment, Comedy and Dancing. The night has it ALL! Go on line to book and look forward to seeing you there.

Membership Report
July - September 2021
Hi Everyone, There have been 26 new members in the Jul-Sep quarter but the overall member numbers have dropped to 386. The main reasons for members leaving the club are, they have moved interstate (or out of SE Qld) or they have sold their BMW. Personal finances in this COVID environment may have been a contributing factor in the sale of these vehicles. There are 8 members who have not responded to my attempts to contact them so they will most likely terminate their membership as well. The mail out of the new membership cards went well with only a relatively small number of cards returned due to incorrect addresses & 3 errors by Australia Post. The Special Interest Vehicle Scheme registration is attracting a number of people to the club and the development of additional website capability to allow increased utilisation of SIVS registered vehicles through impromptu events is progressing (in conjunction with other website enhancements). Motorsport Report With our strange Covid times still dictating our lives, our planned Round 5 of the RX Automotive Sprint Series in August had to be postponed to Friday 3 September. With record entries again in August transferring to the new date and others entering as well we started the day at Lakeside with 54 entries of many various cars, most significant and causing most interest, was 6 Tesla’s from the Tesla Club. Also in attendance was 30 members of BMWCQ, including 10 ///M cars and 16 MX5's and among others a VW, Mercedes, Porsche and Renault. The most outstanding and enjoyable car to see and hear with its glorious induction sound was the beautifully restored, ex Tony Longhurst, JPS E30 Group A M3 of Peter Jones. Congratulations again to Alex Haig for fastest car on the day, closely followed by Rick Catania and Roman Miller all with sub 60 laps. Also a special mention to John Toomer in his MX5 for just over 60 second flat. The Tesla’s performed well, and their owners also fitting in well with their warm and engaging manner. We look forward to them joining us on a regular basis. The day went well under fine skies, with no incidents however a brief moment of my own bodes well to remind people to make sure they warm up their brakes and tyres on your out lap. With the postponement of Round 5 to the same date that our Round 6 would have been, meant there would be no Round 6, making Round 5 the last in this years series. The winner of this years series will be named and awarded trophies at Round 1 in November. October 3 rd will be the running of our postponed Charity Day at Lakeside and there is lots of entries and amazing support coming forth from many with some fabulous raffle prizes. This will be a super day so look forward to seeing many of your there and the next Enewsletter will have more information on how successful the day should be. Here is a link to some photos taken on the day for Sept 3. Enjoy! Denis Weisz, Motorsport Director

Blast from the Past
Above are the BMW Club Magazines in the time frame of September 1999 to December 2007. These were published in A5 size and black and white print with the coloured cover. Lots of club history and photos of the events of the times plus some familiar faces in there too. Interesting to look back at the styles and activities for the time. Come along to the Gala Dinner in December and we will have these on display for you to look through to see the rich history of BMW Club Queensland. Here is one article from October-November 1999 promoting the Nationals to be held at Caloundra in April 2000.
