THE BIMMER NEWS October to December 2021 President’s Message 2021 ended on a crescendo for BMW Club Queensland. The final three months of the year were jammed packed with events, all of them very well aended and well received.
Wrapping up the year at the Bardon Shed on 18th December was an awards presentaon for the InterClub Challenge. Photos HERE. Congratulaons to all the winners and thanks to the organising commiee that included Denis Weisz and Chrisne Murphy. More fun to come this year with some To name just a few, in October we hosted our very successful extra events. Happy Laps and Annual ICC Charity day at Lakeside, at the end of which, we donated $5,000 each to two charies, Emerge Café and Pay A Sack Forward. We then shared a drive to Coastline BMW /Mini with the Mini Club Queensland, then there were a series a Cars & Coffees at Samford, Sunshine Coast & Palmwoods and a Skid Pan at Mt Coon. November started with a track day at Morgan Park, another shared event with the Mini Club – a drive, presentaon, and tour of the Bowden’s Own facility on the Sunshine Coast, then a Country Members Zoom meeng, video HERE, the normal monthly meeng, a drive/lunch to the Emerge Café Toowoomba where we did a formal cheque presentaon, then the 2022 season of the RX Automove Sprint Series kicked off at Lakeside. Our major December event, the BMWCQ 30th Year Anniversary Gala & Awards Night on Saturday 4th was the culminaon of a lot of planning. Held at Sirromet Winery, Mt Coon there were 100 members and guests who helped us celebrate this milestone. Thank you to everyone who parcipated and supported this amazing evening.
As a Christmas gi from one of our members Brendan Cook, Hyper BMW PowerSports donated 2 x $250 Shell Fuel cards which we raffled and drew live on Facebook. BMWCQ Events ICC Charity Day Breakfast and Happy Laps Sunday 3 rd October _ Lakeside. This was the main fundraising event of the year for the Club and once again the support and attendance was fantastic from everyone. There were over 80 registered attendees for either the breakfast, happy laps or both. After that concluded, people stayed on as a spectator and enjoyed the varied collection of vehicles that participated in the Regularity Event. We had some exciting raffle prizes, and these were drawn at lunch time. Some of the prizes were a week end away, a V8 SuperCar drive at Norwell and many others. Proceeds went to support our charity donation for the day.
InterClub Regularity Charity Challenge _ Lakeside.
Winning Team for the Day - big smiles all round Once again the Regularity posed its challenges to those who competed to maintain a steady speed and to not lose points and be winners for the day.
Great view of Lakeside from the air.
The Annual Charity fundraiser was held at Lakeside Park and we supported two local charities, Pay A Sack Forward and Emerge. The weather was great and helped in the smooth running of the event. We were able to present a combined cheque for $10,000 ($5,000 each to our chosen charities)
A big THANK YOU to all our sponsors for the day. This would not have happened without your support. Check out the video that shows the highlights of the day.

BMWCQ Events Day Drive to Coastline BMW/Mini with Club Mini Qld. A big day today, but not quite what was planned. Originally it was to be an early run to the Sunshine Coast with Club Mini Qld and BMWCQ to visit the Bowdens Factory to see where and how they produce their range of car care products, then a visit to Coastline Mini & BMW followed by lunch. Sadly, the Bowdens visit was postponed, so we decided to do a later run starting at Old Petrie Town, then up over the hinterland, through Woodford then towards Maleny, and pick up the rest of the planned trip to Coastline and lunch. We had about 8 Minis and 10 BMWs, all went well until Woodford, then it seemed like some followed the route instructions, some did not. At one stage, when I was in the midst of a group of Minis, we were passed by a convoy of minis and BMWs going the other way!! I waved, just to be friendly. Anyway, we all meet up at Coastline Mini - BMW met their sales and marketing team, had a chat, a look around and a cool drink before we left to find a nice local for a quiet beer and some lunch. BTW, did I mention the 2-3 kilometers of gravel road? I used up my weekly quota of swear words. Back home and out with the Bowdens Snow Job, microfiber towels etc.. After a few hours of cleaning and 'The Princess' is now tucked away for the night. There may be a quick, up on the jacks, wheels off and good underbody clean happening in the next few days. Tech Day - Bowdens Own Car Care Tour - Saturday 6 th November. An early start to the day from Nudgee with a run to the Sunshine Coast with BMW Club Qld and Club Mini Qld. A demonstration of how to detail your car with the current range of Bowdens Own Premium Car Care products was presented by the team. Dan Bowden was his usual entertaining self and was assisted by Brett and Gareth. Before the demonstration, everyone enjoyed a nice breakfast of bacon and egg roll with the usual cup of coffee. The demonstration went for a good 1.5 hours and the E30 M3 display car came up a treat. A big thank you to the Bowdens for another enjoyable and informative day. A group of club members met at the Puma service centre at Bundamba for a Lunch Run to Emerge Cafe’ in Toowoomba. This was to present the cheque for our Club donaon of $5,000 to this deserving charity.
Aer a quick coffee break aptly named Have A Chat cafe’ in Toogoolawah, we all arrived just in me for a lovely hearty lunch. We could see first hand the good work that this Cafe’ does and the support it gives to the youth of Toowoomba. It was a most enjoyable day and everyone was very happy to see the donaon going to a very good cause. Here are the PHOTOS of the day.

FRIEND OF THE CLUB With the wealth of members in the Club over the 30 years plus, the commiee recognised that somemes, Club members offer their parcular experse and experience to the benefit of the Club. To recognise this contribuon, an Award was created to acknowledge those efforts and is based on an individual review and will be different with each and every future nominaon. Based on the model of the highest award of Friend of the Marque that can be bestowed on a Club Member by BMW Clubs Internaonal, BMW Club Queensland now has its own version known as Friend of the Club and its nominaons are on individual merit. The first recipient of this special award was Simon Harrex. We offer our hearelt congratulaons to him on receiving this award. Those involved in Motorsport are very much aware of the experience Simon has had in everything to do with motor racing in Australia. These skills and knowledge have been passed onto our club members over a long period of me with Simon offering to teach, instruct and encourage those who enjoy the thrills of our wonderful BMWs. In Simon’s words, he doesn’t want to see anyone or any machine banged up if he can help it! Many have enjoyed the exhilaraon of doing some well executed spirited laps in a car driven by Simon. Learning to drive our cars to the ability of it and the driver is a skill that is imparted by Simon. He is always there for some sound advice on what to do to gain just that bit more to your experience. Well done Simon and we look forward to many more years of your contribuon and friendship in the Club. Below are some notable pics and check out further ones HERE.
Special thanks also go to Dean Sharry for being our club photographer on the night & Luke Brown for his excellent videography. Thank you to all of the Gala sub-commiee for their hard work and assistances over the proceeding 3 months. We would also like to thank entertainers Rob Rosenlund & Dave Mitchell, Select Audio Visual for donang the amazing lighng. Thanks to the Sirromet team for making this a very special night. RX Automotive 2020-21 Sprint Series Round Up Despite the strange times we have been living under, response to this years RX Automotive Sprint Series has seen an all time record in attendance, and we thank every one of you who made that happen. The season comprised of 5 Sprint rounds, 3 at Lakeside, and one at each of Qld Raceway and Morgan Park in Warwick. Bonus points were also allocated for attendance at our Annual Charity day, at Lakeside. As stated, all events were very well attended, with a solid core of regular attendees not just by BMWCQ members but also many from our partner, MX-5 Club. We also had strong support from Mini Club and something new, The Tesla Owners Club, joining us causing a lot of interest. One thing we didn’t have to worry about with them at Lakeside, was any noise issues. We also had a large number of novices attending most events, to experience driving their cars in a more spirited manner than allowed on the road. Most continuing to attend further days, gaining more experience and confidence. While mentioning our novices, I would be remiss if not commenting on the huge contribution from Simon Harrex, who continues to attend all our events to conduct his morning track walks and his mentoring of all our novices to pass on some of his vast experience. I have often had comments from people stating just how much they have gained from his insights and track walks.. Simon was this year 2021, rewarded for his continuing support of the club and Motorsport with the presentation of the first, new club award ‘Friend of The Club’. Congratulations Simon, totally well deserved. We had a vast array of cars attending, representing many BMW’s models, old and new, especially the very popular newer M2's. Also we were supported by many other makes and models of cars too numerous to mention. Many driven by our own members. Our 2 biggest classes being ///M cars and Invitational for our members driving non-BMW’s. With points awarded to every attendee relevant to the class of their car and number of events attended, winners were calculated. Congratulation to the winners of the following Classes. Membership Report
October to December
2021
Hi Everyone, The BMW Club Qld Membership for the last 3 months of 2021 was sound with 37 new members during that period. Unfortunately, we had a similar number of people leave the club so the overall number of members has been hovering around 400. The main reasons for leaving are: 1. they have sold their BMW, & 2. they have moved interstate or to a region where they are unable to join in the activities. Website developments such as SIVS Impromptu events, car sales, etc appear to be of interest to many people so that should entice more people to join our community. John Payne - Membership Officer

In Memorium VALE JOHN WOOD Sad news was received that on 26 Oct. 2021, from RBH on the passing of John Wood a fellow ex BMW Club Qld member, & a personal friend of several current members. John lived alone in Bundaberg, an old car nut & competitor originally from Victoria, where most of his family still reside, & who like most old car nuts always had more than one car in his garage in varying stages of mobility. In John’s case buying & on selling some special cars kept him very occupied. Trips outside of Bundaberg, sometimes interstate were usually to pick up another car. He had a special relationship and obsession with his Haflingers, and on one occasion brought one of them down by trailer to Cars, Bikes & Coffee at Ipswich. John discovered his first E30 in Bundaberg over 10 years ago & ended up over a number of years owning most from the local area. At that time, he set up the BMW Club Qld E30 Register which grew to become a large, authoritative and popular listing/data base of Qld based E30’s with information on “E30 sightings” being fed to John by the E30 community within and even outside of our Club. John also had a Dakar Yellow E36 M3 which he sold to an owner near Beenleigh. John also established and organised Cars, Crumbs & Coffee at Innes Park, Bundaberg, basically on the edge of the cane fields across the road from his home. This brought out an impressive array of classic and rare vehicles of all brands and periods every month. For those of us, who on occasion, travelled up to participate it was surprising and impressive to see so many precious vehicles in that region. Many of us also cycle regularly and swapped experiences with John via our Strava posts, especially his memorable 4am starts in winter along the coast near Innes Park. You will be sadly missed John, you had a very interesting life and contributed much more than space here will allow. You were taken too soon, Rest in Peace old mate.
Penned by David Palmer.
The BMW Club Qld committee and all its members pass on our sincere condolences to John’s family and all his many friends.
VALE DAVID HARRIS It's with much sadness and with a heavy heart that it was announced to the Motorsport and Car community that my good friend David Harris passed away just before Christmas . His family has asked me to make this announcement now in the new year giving them some time to grieve over what was a very sad Christmas period for all his family and close friends. David was a great friend and mentor to me and his support, encouragement and mate-ship will be greatly missed but will always be remembered fondly. He was a passionate Motorsport and Car lover and everyone who met or knew him, will I'm sure, remember him as a modest, quiet gentleman always ready to share a great story, always with a friendly smile on his face. Rest In Peace David
