February 2020

THE BIMMER MONTHLY February 2020 Presidents Message I would like to thank you for your support last year and welcome you to 2020. There have already been a couple of social events, the February meeting and a Brekky Run since the beginning of the year, as well as our involvement supporting Brisbane BMW’s FlashBack February event. We hope that we can keep the momentum going and, to that end, we have been planning a calendar of interesting and varied events. In May, we have the AGM where all positions on the committee will be open for election and I know that we will have a couple of vacant positions that we will need to fill...treasurer and drive coordinator. As I mentioned at the February meeting, this is your club so please let us know what you would like to see the club doing and also, what you don’t like. It’s simple, we want to make it fun and do what you want to do.

Sunday 5 April 2020, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Meeting at Bundamba Puma Please arrive by 9:30am for 9:45am briefing. First cars will depart at 10:00am. We'll take a relaxing run around some towns in the Scenic Rim which has had its share of drought, fire and flood in the past year. Our destination will be the Dugandan Hotel at Boonah via a short stop at Lake Moogerah.

The BMW Club Queensland regularly visits Warwick to use the motor racing facility at Morgan Park. Late 2019, Denis Weisz, our motorsport director noted that the region was suffering badly from the wide spread drought. We decided to see if we could help by donating some of our charity dollars to something worthwhile in the area. We started collecting gold coins at our Ford vs Ferrari movie afternoon and then continued through until Christmas at various events until, with a little boost from our funds, we had $3,000 to donate. The timing could not have been better as the Salvation Army had just started a project of funding water deliveries to some of the local farmers and residents.

Enjoy lunch and some live music at Dugandan. Then perhaps, follow up on the way home with a visit to Boonah centre to buy an ice cream or coffee...or maybe some fruit and veggies. The locals will really appreciate the trade. Click HERE for the pub menu. Please review the BMWCQ Run Guidelines. We look forward to seeing you so, please register now. 6 Series Register - Picnic by the Bay

February 2020

Australia Day @ The Grandview Australia Day, 2020 was another reason for a social outing. This time, we went to the Grandview Hotel at Cleveland. They were a supporter last year and donated a special gift basket for our raffle at the gala awards dinner.

To kick off the year, the 6 Series Register organised a ‘Picnic by the Bay’ in the Cleveland Point Recreation Reserve...well, Fish n Chips from the Lighthouse Restaurant really. After the normal Christmas overload of ham, chicken and turkey, there is something satisfying about simple Fish n Chips by the water. Thanks guys and girls for a great afternoon.. About 40 people joined us for lunch, including some guests, a group of members of BMW Club Gold Coast and a new member and advertiser, Alex Wilson and his wife from Bremen Motors. Thanks to Russell Thomas and Leanne Tymms for organising the day and the staff at the Grandview for an excellent afternoon..

Week 1, Xavier, the BMW Product Specialist said he saw two people walk into each other on the footpath whilst staring through the window at the Isetta.

Any opportunity to support the dealer network, wave the flag for the club and display some classic BMWs is always a pleasure. When Brisbane BMW approached us, it was great to see the response from our members who were happy and willing to support the event. It’s a pity that there wasn't more room for some extra cars. Week 2, we showcased some older ///M’s. When wrapping up the event, there was a person sitting, reading our membership flyer. He had just taken delivery of his new ///M3.. I think he will join up.

Summer Brekky Run - 23rd February 2020 .....by John Tait The Spring Brekky Run started out from Sweeney Reserve, Petrie at 7am and headed up into the Sunshine Coast hinterland through some great back roads. There were a number of members, including some new members who joined us along the way or met us at The Barn at Flaxton. There were some issues with Google Maps and GPS in the Montville/ Palmwoods area but all managed to arrive without incident. A total 60 people had an early brekfast before heading off in various directions to enjoy the rest of their Sunday. We passed a number of BMWs stopped at Maleny doing some sightseeing and shopping.. There were many favourable comments from the attendees and no complaints. Most people were keen to attend the next drive. PHOTOS

Rnd 1 2020 Regularity Series - QR 5th March 2020 .....by Denis Weisz On Thursday night we had 17 people attend the first round of our new Regularity Series at Qld Raceway under lights. Driving on track at night was a new experience for everyone and greatly enjoyed with positive feedback from all. Being a Regularity event meant we had some new faces, so well done to you, coming out and braving the dark. Many of our regulars also enjoyed the challenge of trying to drive to a consistant time, while working the the pace of the other cars. PHOTOS Congratulatios to seasoned stalwart, Rick Catania winning the night with just 203 points, (lowest score wins), closely followed by Ken Dixon with 227 points. There will be more Regularity events later in the year.

BMW Announce Their New Logo BMW has debuted a new 'flat' logo it claims is "better-suited to the digital age", to be used in communications across the German manufacturer's BMW, BMW i and BMW M brands.

The first update in over 20 years, BMW's new-look logo is a "pareddown and two-dimensional" version of its iconic blue-and-white circle design, swapping the signature black rim for a transparent border. First showcased on the BMW i4 concept electric car that made its debut online recently (see page 7), BMW says the logo is designed to convey "openness and clarity" and "ensure a contemporary, future-proof presence". Ok, so it’s just a ‘concept’, but this 523 bhp electric saloon closely previews BMW’s production i4 due in 2021. And boring though it is to draw comparisons with Tesla on every electric car story, this one matters. Because like the massive-selling Tesla, this BMW is a compact saloon with superb range and acceleration. Let Jack Rix show you the design and thinking behind BMW’s next-gen EV.
