THE BIMMER MONTHLY June July August 2020 President’s Message Hello again, Covid-19 situation is ongoing with numbers up and down monthly. This has had us planning and cancelling events and meetings over the last 3 months and still has not settled down, but the signs are good. The current ruling from our state government is explained HERE in the Stage 3 Roadmap to Easing COVID-19 restrictions.
It was an all of club event organised by the ///M Register and we set the event as an observation run with some other challanges thrown in. PHOTOS .. Including some silliy selfies..HERE.
Please understand that we feel the situation is still quite serious and the last thing we want is to put anyone’s health at jeopardy. Rules currently state “limiting gatherings to a maximum of 10 people in homes and public spaces” which make it difficult to run certain events. There will be plenty of time and opportunity in the future to get activities back to normal. Over the last couple of months, we have had some successful events, in amongst the restrictions. In June, we did a morning skid pan session at Mt Cotton with 14 cars, see the highlights HERE. Then Round 3 of the RX Automotive Sprint Series at Lakeside and a Scenic Rim day drive, in three groups of 10 cars to Boonah. Photos HERE Video HERE July, we were brave and had our first club meeting in a few months at Brisbane BMW HERE . After the success of our Skid Pan at Mt Cotton in June, we invited Joel Neilsen, the MD of SDT (Safe Drive Training) to speak to us. Then, it was off to Morgan Park for Round 4 of the RX Automotive Sprint Series and First Annual Porsche BMW Club Challange on the 21st July. August kicked off with a great drive & lunch from The Gap to Fernvale and back over Mt Glorious to finish at Lake Samsonvale for a BBQ which the club provided . 2020 Annual General Meeting: The AGM will be held at 7pm on Friday 9th October at Belmont Bowls Club, 20 Naracott Street, Carina. Please review the NOTICE OF MEETING, NOMINATION FORM, PROXY FORM and 2019 FINANCIAL REPORT by clicking on their names (links). Come along, take an active role in your club and vote on the night.
The 6 Series hosted a social get togther at a fun little venue in Woolloongabba called Barrels & Stills. It was great to get out and talk cars and stuff. Back on the track at QR on the night of 20th August for Round 3 of the Regularity Series. Very well attended and saw a number of new members out there enjoying their cars. Friday 21st was our next monthly meeting hosted by Sommer Car Car at Newmarket. Normal proceedings followed by pizzas and beers. VIDEO Our last event was another skid pan at Mt Cotton run by Safe Drive Training and organised by the ever present Denis Weisz.. Photos HERE Due to CoVid, our September meeting was cancelled so Leanne Tymms and I just did a brief FaceBook Live chat .. Recently, Road & Track spoke to several high-end mechanics familiar with the insane world of supercar maintenance. We're talking four-figure oil changes and engine rebuilds within spitting distance of the cost of a brand new 2015 BMW M235i. The owner of McLaren F1 chassis No. 072 is about to experience the extreme economics of this kind of maintenance firsthand. There's a silver lining, however: it's virtually impossible to total a car like this. Why? The man who maintains Ralph Lauren's beyond drool-worthy collection of ultra-rare exotics, Mark Reinwald, puts it into perspective: "The car is appreciating so fast the repair bills will never catch up to the price." M Register Observation Run: 2nd August
Scenic Rim Run: 28th June 2020 The ///M Register set an ‘All of Club’ Observation Run which started at The Gap, wound its way out through Mt Crosby to Blacksoil, then up to Fernvale for a rest stop, then back over Mt Glotious and Samford. We finished at Lake Samsonvale, McGaven View Park for a BBQ lunch. There were a series of questions and challanges to keep the drivers and crews on their toes. ‘How many Teddy Bears?” Well, when we set it, we counted 18 bears tied to trees, fences etc.. But Ken Dixon & Kerrie Craig got 20.. That Sunday, we held our first post-Covid lockdown social drive for BMW Club Queensland. Who am I to argue! Thanks to the great work of our drive coordinator, Another challange, each car had to stop a couple of times and take selfies.. PHOTOS John Tait, we were able to structure the drive within the guidelines of the stage 2 rules. There were 3 groups, maximum of 20 people per group, separated by an hour on the road.
We headed southwest from Dinmore to Lake Moogerah for a short stop, then onto Boonah where we all split up to find lunch or have a picnic. It felt a bit strange not gathering at the end, but it was great to get out onto the road, even if there was a short section of roadworks and MUD...John Tait! Check out all the PHOTOS HERE

The judges were very impressed with the question regarding fishing off the Kipper Creek Bridge. A bonus point was given for drawing the sign! Well done BMWCQ! Overall, everyone ‘observed’ very well, so much so, there was a tie for first between Atholl & Debbie Flett and Neal & Sharon Mathers on 39 out of 40. The Fletts won with the fish drawing.. (Top Left - Large picture in the photos) Photos of the day HERE...Thanks to Roman Miller for taking some great shots.. Sorry, no video of this event..

June July August 2020 Motorsport Report ..... Denis Weisz, Motorsport Director Despite the COVID lockdown, we have managed to maintain an active Motorsport program with some minor changes to operation.
In July we headed to Morgan Park in Warwick for our double header event hosted by the Porsche Club. The Saturday was a round of the InterClub Challenge and saw 8 members participate, mostly novices and first timers to Morgan Park. Well done, to all those that attended with BMWCQ coming in 3rd place from the 7 clubs participating. The Sunday was Rnd 4 of our RX Automotive Sprint Series and the first of our new Porsche - BMW Clubs Challenge. We had 7 members participating, most had never driven at Morgan Park before and many first time novices. Peter Mastaler was our club winner on the day and finished well in the overall placings for the day, up against some very quick, well sorted Porsche race cars. Victory for the challenge between the 2 clubs went to the Porsche Club, congratulations for the win and organising a great weekend PHOTOS
We moved onto the next round of our Regularity Series, this one back at QR for another night event. With a near full grid, we had a great mix of cars including many versions of ///M car, many first time on track. Due to a timing mix up from QR, many entrants didn’t receive a correct score, making it impossible to score a proper Regularity. It was decided to award the trophy for the night to the person who achieved the best (lowest) score from any one run. Here’s some in car VIDEO by Mitchel Anderson. Congratulations to James Laker in his 140M, at his first club event for his win. Well done! PHOTOS Check out Matthew Pauls PHOTOS We have also run a couple of Skid Pan Sessions of late, also well attended. PHOTOS VIDEO (I’m yet to edit 5th Sept Skid Pan video)

June July August 2020 Motorsport Report .. QTCC
This year has seen some great action with the three rounds that have been completed so far in the 2020 QTCC Championship.
There are a number of BMW Club Queensland members and other BMW enthusasists who are competing and their results have been fabulous. Considering the cubic capacity of some of their competitors, the BMWs have been holding their own and its not unusual to see some of their owners on the podium at the end of the day.
A full breakdown of results, photos and videos can be seen HERE on the QTCC Website. Also, There are many videos here is the QTCC YouTube Website: QTCC VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS One of the major supports of the QTCC is Fiona Carmichael. Her amazing photos of the events can be found here: FIFOTOS.COM GALLERY
