Presidents Message After Motorfest, we have had a quiet month socially but it’s been full on with motorsport. Denis Weisz ran a Skid Pan session at Mt Cotton and all the usual BMW racers were at Queensland Raceway at Ipswich for the Qld Touring Car Championship on Sunday August 18th. Also, Round 7 of the Sprint Series at Lakeside has happened ..More to come next month. Socially, we had a great lunch at The German Club and plans are set for our Annual Celebrations and Awards Night on September 14th. For our monthly meeting, we tried something different and went to Sommer Car Care at Newmarket and were hosted by Ludwig & Nicola..check out our live stream VIDEO HERE. Great meeting followed by a sausage sizzle and a couple of quiet bevvies. Gary C.J. Schweikert #1522 0419 033 675
Mt Cotton Skid Pan Saturday 24th August .....by Denis Weisz. We held another Skid Pan Training Session at the Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre. These sessions give participants the chance to practice their car control skills, while having some fun, all at low speeds, on a slippery, wet track. We had an interesting mix of cars including 3 E30's, 5 ///M Cars, as well as a 1, 3, and 5 series and a couple of other nice makes. Great to see a large number of first timers which kept Paul, the SafeDrive instructor swapping from car to car. As the morning progressed, every one was becoming more confident with their car control skills, managing to hold drifts through the corners. Half way through the morning the direction of travel was reversed, virtually creating a new track. During the session, we were visited by some teenagers in foster care. It didn’t take much prompting for our 2 Skid Pan masters Peter Domrow and Warwick Prince to take them for some laps. All were sporting large smiles when they returned, and highly appreciative. These events are an excellent way to learn about your cars handling capabilities and improve your skills in controlling your car when it is about to lose traction. Our Skid Pan days are ideal for drivers of all ages and levels. ‘It was a brilliant session of slips, spins and just a couple of perfect slides.’ Charles Tutt. Photos HERE

Queensland Touring Car Championship - QR 18 Aug 2019 .....by Richard Gresham th
A Field of 35 cars with 12 BMWs spread across the three groups A1, A2 & B at Queensland Raceway in round 4 of the QTTC Pierz Harrex/E30. 4th Place in A1 - Kept the front runners honest with some very close racing. Mitch Wooller/E36. Had overheating issues. Caused a couple of DNFs so not a great weekend. Lance Jurgeleit/E36. 2nd place in A2 with two seconds and a third. Very consistent driving. John Phoenix/E36. Shaker and mover coming up from Group B to A1. 4th in A2 for the weekend. Car has a new engine and going very strongly. Richard Gresham/2002. Electrical gremlin sidelined the car after race one – after going from 17th to 10th place. Gary Lange/E46. New to QTCC in 2019 and doing a great job. Won Race 2 in A2 but ended up with a RoG penalty which hurt his weekend. (Was a technical penalty, not race conduct related.) Chris Begg/E46. Car issues sidelined Chris after qualifying. Rob Bellinger/E46. New to QTCC in 2019. Moved up from A2 to A1 this meeting and finished 5th for the weekend – great effort. Andrew Knight/E36. Also sidelined early with a broken engine mount. John Swarbrooke/E46. Didn’t partake after the practice session. Malcolm Douglas/E30. Usual consistent weekend with 100% finish rate and was awarded the QTCC Hard Charger award - Group B for the weekend.
Maddison Crowe/E46. First door to door race meeting @ 19 years of age. Worked her way through the field (amazingly well) but was taken out by another car right at the end of race one and that finished her weekend.

Ludwig Sommer
A not so clever story about Ludwig… Even though Ludwig was a European Master Mechanic when he met his future wife, he didn’t tell Nicola. She had a pig of a car (sold to her by her brother-in-law) that kept needing expensive repairs – like a new engine and so on and on. Still he didn’t tell her, just let her keep breaking down. There came a point in his life when he needed to earn more money (baby on the way) he went out and started working as a mechanic. Nicola was confused, a little angry, but relieved he was worthwhile, as he just casually explained he had been a mechanic for years and was just having a break…. aghh – Ludwig, has since stuck to the horse he knows best.

8th September 2019 - The Mike Walsh Lunch Cruise .....by John Tait
The Mike Walsh Lunch Cruise was created to remember a much respected and missed club member. Mike was very much into his M6.
39 cars and over 60 people left from The Gap Village shopping centre with the first cars out at 9:30am. There were many new faces on the drive and a plethora of E24s in all their glory.
The 134km route took us over Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious, past Somerset Dam, through Kilcoy and Neurum to the Woodford Hotel for lunch.
Addam Smith, our Classics Register Leader and proprietor of Bavarian Classics And Restorations, kindly sponsored two membership raffle prizes for invited guests and non-members in attendance. The raffle was drawn at lunch and the lucky winners were Sue Neiby and Claude Borean. Welcome to BMW Club Qld Sue and Claude! From the look of the happy faces at lunch, everyone enjoyed the drive and the company. Feedback from the participants was positive and there were no incidents. Photos HERE.... Thanks to Jordan James, a new member for the photography. Facebook Photos HERE Please help...
