smart fortwo enthusiasts can now put the power into flower power, fly the flag for the iconic brand and even give their car wings with the new smart art stickers. The new adhesive foil stickers comprise six striking motifs that enable owners to customise their smart with designs that include a classic black, white and blue racing pattern along with variations on flowers, skylines and even birds’ wings and stars. Designed by acclaimed German artist Timo Wuerz in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH, the stickers are applied to the tridion safety cell to provide an attractive contrast to the other body panels. When correctly affixed the stickers last for approximately five years but they can also

RENAULT CONFIRMS PRICING + SPEC FOR NEW WIND COUPE-ROADSTER Overcast skies might have temporarily replaced the spring sunshine, but there is a glimmer of summer on the horizon as Renault releases pricing and specification details for its Wind Coupé-Roadster, one of the most eagerly-awaited and affordable open-top cars of the year, priced from £15,500. With its quick-folding roof, the new Wind Coupé-Roadster is capable of taking the indifferent British climate in its stride all-year round. In just 12 seconds, the single-piece roof can be rotated through 180 degrees to let in the sun’s rays, or more likely, to protect against more frequent downpours. With the car’s development handled by performance and handling experts, Renaultsport, plus fitment of the engine from the Twingo Renaultsport 133 on the 1.6-litre versions, buyers can be assured that Wind Coupé-Roadster will drive as good as it looks. The chic new two-seater will be available to pre-order later in April in exclusive, rangetopping ‘Collection’ limited edition guise, of which just 200 will find their way to the UK. Customer ordering for the rest of the range, Dynamique and Dynamique S, opens in May, ahead of first deliveries in July. Completing the line-up are a range of smart exterior accessories, enabling the style-savvy buyer to customise their two-door to exactly their desired look, including chrome-effect door mirrors and double chrome roof cover cowls, rear diffuser and front fog light surrounds. Full pricing for Wind Coupé-Roadster is outlined below. Insurance groups have yet to be finalised, but are expected to be competitive. 7

KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN SCORES FIRST WRC CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

The Citroën Junior Team had a strong result this weekend at the Jordan Rally to strengthen their third position in the Manufacturers’ Championship. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia finished sixth, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström – who scored their first points with eighth place overall in the sister Citroën Junior Team C4 WRC.

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia ran first on the road throughout the final day of the Jordan Rally, with the aim of helping Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena claim their 56th WRC event victory in the FIA World Rally Championship. “With the road position that we had, the stages were extremely slippery,” said the former Junior World Rally Champion, who had been feeling unwell overnight. “I’m not in great form at the moment. I’m just trying not to make a mistake. There’s 8

no reason to go quickly. Running first on the road is still a new experience for us.” Kimi Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström continued their efforts on a surface that was very hard to understand; especially for a beginner. “We didn’t push hard today as there was little left to gain,” said Räikkönen. “It was important just to learn and gain more experience on this surface.” FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVER STANDINGS AFTER ROUND 3 OF 13* 1st S. Loeb, 68pts; 2nd Jari-Matti Latvala, 43pts; 3rd M.Hirvonen, 37 pts; 4th P. Solberg, 35pts; 5th S. Ogier, 33 pts; 6th D. Sordo, 24pts

NEW GENERATION VAUXHALL ASTRA

The recent HOSDB 2010 exhibition organised by the Home Office Scientific Development Branch saw Vauxhall proudly display the new generation Astra police vehicle on a stand hosted by the Association of Chief Police Officers Intelligent Transportations Systems Working Group (ACPO ITS). Vauxhall were invited onto the ACPO stand not only thanks to their long history with the association but also in recognition of the ongoing work carried out by the Special Vehicles Operation team based at Millbrook in Bedfordshire. ContiSportContact 5 P arrives in the UK. The ContiSportContact 5 P is the latest generation ultra high performance tyre from Continental. Sports car drivers need to be able to drive safely on both wet and dry roads and as their only contact with the road, the high-tech tyres fitted to these vehicles must provide maximum support. Continental’s tyre developers found new solutions for the composition of the tread compound and the reinforcing material in the new ContiSportContact 5 P tyre. New carbon blacks and resins were introduced into the compound to support the flexibility of the rubber—important for good traction—and the rigidity of the tyre—important for handling. The combination of both materials further improves the flexibility and rigidity of the tyre’s contact area, ensuring that steering and braking commands are transmitted from tyre to road even more safely and directly. The ContiSportContact 5 P is already OE approved on the following vehicles; the Renault Megane III Sport RS, the Audi TT RS and the Mercedes AMG C-Class and E-Class.

The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is the most recent version of a mid-engined full-sized grand tourer developed by the German car-manufacturer Volkswagen and produced by the Volkswagen-brand Bugatti Automobiles SAS at their headquar ters. purpose- built workspace and showroom in Bradford. To buy the plate took Kahn eight years of negotiations with Essex countr y council, which had owned it since 1904. It cost him £375,000 plus Vat. “I don’t really follow Formula One,” he admits. “I bought the plate for an investment.” Although the businessman owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom as well as the Veyron and other cars, the plate is his most memorable acquisition. “Buy ing the number plate was actually more exciting than buy ing the Bugatti,” Kahn admits. “As amazing a machine as the Veyron is, it is not exclusive. By that I mean there is more than one in existence. The F1 plate is truly one of a kind. If there was a fire and I had to choose between F1 and the Veyron, I’d grab the F1 cer tificate.” You must check out these guys visit www.kahndesign.com for details of their products and ser vices! FEATURE : FORD ADD’S

SOME BALLS TO ITS RS500 A new and power ful limited edition Focus RS model, called the RS500, is being launched as the ultimate per formance Ford and will provide the definitive driving experience for serious per formance car enthusiasts. Making its global debut at the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show in Germany on April 9, the new model has been given the RS500 designation to highlight its strictlylimited production run of 500 individually-numbered vehicles, all of which will be of fered for customers to purchase – 101 of them in the UK. The new Focus RS500 features a muscular 350 PS 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine, which generates 15 per cent more power than the standard Focus RS and delivers truly exhilarating per formance. The RS500’s breathtaking power is matched by an equally dramatic appearance. The limited edition model spor ts a unique matt black ‘foil’ paint finish with matching alloy wheels to deliver a power ful visual impact which is unlike any other production Ford.

“We were determined to mark the end of production for the current and acclaimed Focus RS with something even more special,” said Joe Bakaj, Ford of Europe’s vice president for Product Development. “From its stunning looks to its intoxicating per formance, we have no doubt that the RS500 will be appreciated and quickly snapped up by per formance car enthusiasts. “This vehicle joins a long line of iconic RS Fords and is a wor thy recipient of the RS500 name, which became synonymous with success on the road and track with the legendar y Sierra RS500 Coswor th that dominated saloon car racing during the late 1980s,” Bakaj added. The RS500 marks the end of production for the current generation Focus RS, with the last vehicles scheduled to leave Ford’s Saarlouis Assembly Plant in Germany during September 2010. While over whelming customer demand has ensured that total Focus RS output is expected to exceed 11,000 units (significantly more than the 7,000 to 8,000 37

38 originally forecast), production of the RS500 will star t at Ford’s Saarlouis plant in Germany during May and will be strictly limited to 500 customer vehicles for twenty European markets. Each RS500 will carr y a metal plaque on the centre console, hand-engraved with a unique identification number from 001 to 500. A small number of pre-production vehicles produced for internal Ford use – such as product development or press demonstrators – will have their own unique numbering scheme, to ensure the exclusivity of the 500 customer cars. Demand for the RS500 is expected to exceed supply by a considerable margin, and the full production run of just 500 vehicles is being allocated across 20 European markets in line with the anticipated level of interest. For some countries, the ver y small number of vehicles allocated means the RS500 will, indeed, be a ver y exclusive purchase for its customers.

A dedicated website – www.focusrs500.com – will allow customers and enthusiasts to gain fur ther information, including projected quantities of available vehicles by market, plus access to download photography and video clips. The site will also provide links to national Ford websites so customers can identify dealers and prices. Focus RS also has its own Facebook page – www.facebook.com/ fordfocusrs – with more than 13,500 fans from across the world, and RS500 launch activities will be shared on this site. The Focus RS500 engine has been modified by a team enthusiast engineers from Ford TeamRS in par tnership with Revolve Technologies, the automotive engineering firm which develops Ford approved per formance upgrades through its Mountune brand. The shared development and testing programme ensured that the 350 PS Duratec RS engine achieved the specified per formance targets while also delivering the standards of durability and ser viceability expected by Ford RS customers. 39
