NEW SALES AND MEMBERS TO FAN CLUB Following the success of Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers, the observational documentary on Five, Stobart Group’s promotional arm has experienced unprecedented demand for Stobart merchandise items and membership of the Stobart Members Club. Stobart Promotions has seen the numbers of new fans joining the Members Club in October 2010 increase by nearly 450% from the same month last year. In addition, purchases of Stobart gifts and merchandise have rocketed by 350% compared to the same period. The Stobart Members Club was started in 1992 after UK road haulier Eddie Stobart began to place girls’ names on the front of its trucks – resulting in a healthy following 6 TARMAG.CO.UK
of people ‘spotting’ the vehicles on the UK’s roads and motorways. Since then the Members Club has grown to around 15,000 fans and, spurred on by the increased national interest in the iconic company created by the television series, the club has seen a flurry of new sign-ups and renewals. Sales of Stobart merchandise have also jumped after the final episode of the series featured the company’s dedicated shop and promotional products available. The Stobart shop retails everything from collectable and model trucks and trains, clothing, pens, mugs, key-rings and even Eddie Stobart truck slippers. Follow Stobart Group on Twitter at www.twitter.com/stobartgroup or visit www.clubstobart.co.uk for further details.

The cleanest and most fuel efficient versions of the Scirocco and Passat CC yet produced have been unveiled in the form of BlueMotion Technology models. As with all of Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Technology vehicles, the new Scirocco and Passat CC variants combine efficiency with comfort and refinement to create cars that deliver greater economy and fewer emissions, yet which remain conventional to drive, service and maintain. All entry-level Scirocco and GT trim models with the 2.0-litre 140 PS engine now feature BlueMotion Technology modifications including Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems to help to create the cleanest and most fuel efficient Scirocco to date. The models, available with a six-speed manual or optional six-speed DSG gearbox, offer savings through increased fuel economy, improved from 55.4 mpg to 62.8 mpg on the combined cycle (51.4 to 57.6 DSG), and lower emissions, down from 134 g/km to 118 g/km (145 to 129 DSG) to allow all BlueMotion Technology Sciroccos to drop two tax brackets over previous models.

COMPETITION WINNER DRIVES AWAY (QUICKLY) IN HONDA CIVIC MUGEN C
Honda (UK) has given away the original Civic Type R MUGEN Concept car, which was hand-built as a test bed for the 20 units created by Honda’s race enginetuning partner MUGEN. The one-off concept car, worth over £60,000, was given away following a nationwide prize draw to celebrate Honda’s participation in the British Touring Car Championship. The highly-tuned 240PS Civic was handed over to winner Jim Morgan from Manchester at Silverstone circuit, 8 TARMAG.CO.UK
where Jim met Honda’s BTCC drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden and was treated to some hair-raising passenger laps around the circuit. He then visited the MUGEN workshops in Northampton where he toured the factory and met the team of specialists who created his unique car, which features increased power, torque and razorsharp handling.
“I still can’t quite believe I’ve won this unbelievable concept car,” said Jim. “To meet Matt and Gordon, rocket around Silverstone in a Type R, and talk to the

guys who built my car was incredible! Seeing how this the Type R MUGEN was built really gives you a feel for how special it is: the guys at MUGEN have put everything they’ve got into this car. “It really is a great car to drive; perfectly well behaved around town but with a fantastic response to a heavy right foot! I feel extremely lucky,” he continued. The competition, which attracted more than 24,000 entries, ran online at www. honda.co.uk/btcc, and fans could also enter in Honda dealer showrooms and
at the BTCC circuits during the season. A limited edition Civic Type R MUGEN 200 in Championship White paint, based on the concept car won by Jim Morgan, is available through Honda’s dealer network. Honda is developing its plans for the 2011 BTCC season which will again see Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden competing in the Swindonbuilt Civic.

£ NEW SUBARU LEGACY SPORTS TOURER HITS DEALER SHOWROOMS On sale from 1 December, the Legacy Sports Tourer features a bold new look, increased space and comfort for all occupants, improved dynamics and refinement, and enhanced safety. The Legacy Sports Tourer offers the combination of Horizontally-Opposed ‘Boxer’ diesel engine and Symmetrical AWD (All-WheelDrive). This well-proven set-up, further refined by Subaru’s engineers for the fifth-generation car, has made successive generations of Legacy Tourer the preferred choice for motorists seeking a practical family car that delivers rewarding yet secure handling in all weather conditions. The Legacy Sports Tourer exudes on-road presence thanks to a bold front-end design and an increase in overall dimensions: the car is wider (by 50mm), taller (by 65mm) and longer (by 55mm). The new grille (complete with ‘wing motif’) flanked by elongated headlights is both mod10 TARMAG.CO.UK
ern and instantly recognisable as a Subaru. Prominent wheel-arches hint at the impressive power running through the Symmetrical AWD system, while the strong belt line and a chrome-rimmed glass-house give the Legacy Sports Tourer a premium feel. The luxurious and spacious interior has been completely redesigned to give occupants more room and to improve comfort levels. For example, front headroom has risen by 21mm over the previous model, and legroom for rearseat passengers increases by 99mm, aided by an 80mm increase in wheelbase. All models marketed by Subaru Ireland come with the reassurance of a three year or 160,000 kilometres warranty, plus twelve year anti-corrosion cover and three year paintwork warranty. This is in addition to three year’s membership of Subaru Assist – a comprehensive home and roadside repair and recovery package throughout Ireland and Europe administered by Mapfre Asistencia.

South African tuning company LupiniPower has introduced its wild 535bhp Chevrolet SuperUte pickup. Based on the already impressive Chevy Ute SS, (sold as the Pontiac G8 in the US and the Holden Ute SS in Australia) the 535bhp 590lb.ft 6-litre supercharged V8 SuperUte is a pick-up with supercar credentials of fering 4.5-second 0-100km/h acceleration, dramatic over taking ability and e l a s t i c i t y. S u p e r U te i s also more economical and greener than standard while still remaining docile, gentle and easy to drive. Powered by a supercharged V8 similar to that found in the Cor vette ZR1, SuperUte clearly is a supercar – 0-60mph acceleration of an automatic version improves from the standard Ute’s already handy 6 seconds to 4.4 seconds, while 0-100mph flashes by in 9.9 seconds – almost four seconds faster than
standard. SuperUte reaches 125mph in 15.5 seconds – that’s over five seconds quicker than stock, boasts a quarter-mile time of 12.7 seconds at 113mph and runs the standing kilometre in 22.8 seconds at 150mph while top speed is up 2 5 m p h t o 17 5 m p h . SuperUte is not just all speed and power – improvements extend to bigger race-specification front disc brakes and callipers, while subtle yet effective suspension tweaks will see the Ute’s already impressive handling, road holding and dynamic ability also improve without undue compromise to ride and comfor t. T h e Tr a c t i o n B a r i s u n i q u e SuperUte device that Lupini applies to enable the pick-up to dip well below the five-second 0-60mphacceleration bracket. Another vital LupiniPower aspect is the company’s standard Warranty & Ser vice Plan in its home mar-

ket to ensure customer peace of mind normally lost when factory plans are voided by such af termarket modifications. SuperUte enjoys a 5 -year Unlimited LupiniPlan Performance Warranty in South Africa. The Lupini SuperUte comes with a striking staggered 20 wheel & tyre set-up with 8.5J front and 10J wide rear alloy wheels and Bridgestone Potenza RE050 ultra-high performance tyres, while option boxes available to be ticked include full Bilstein suspension and a limitedslip dif ferential for the serious track day fan. Only a limited number of SuperUtes will be of fered to g u a r a n te e exc l u s i v i t y. LupiniPower’s Chevrolet SuperUte sells for US $ 91 5 0 0 ( E u ro 6 3 0 0 0 , GBP58000) for a complete new vehicle in South Africa. An identical LupiniPower SuperLumina option is available on the Chevrolet Lumina SS sedan.

Round up of the Scotty Awards - Main feature Seat! Spanish car maker SEAT is celebrating scooping a brace of prestigious national awards with the news that versions of its recently -revised Leon family hatch have been named Eco Car of the Year and Spor ting Car of the Year in Scotland. As ever, the impor tant awards were organised by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) whose members voted for their favourites in a number of car categories including the new Eco class, launched just last year.

Director of SEAT UK Peter Wyhinny led the Brand’s celebrations at the ASMW’s glittering awards ceremony last night – Bonfire Night – at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews. Since its revisions 12 months ago which saw the five-door Leon benefit from some subtly revised styling along with a raf t of impor tant engineering changes and equipment upgrades,
Press and public reaction to the big-selling SEAT has been over whelmingly positive. And the arrival earlier this year of the 155 mph Leon Cupra R – SEAT’s most power ful production car to date with 265 PS at its driver’s disposal from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine – only ser ved to further heighten the excitement. Capable of sprinting from
rest to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, the front-wheel drive Cupra R is as environmentally responsible as it is exhilarating with CO2 emissions of just 190 g/km and a combined fuel economy figure of 34.9 mpg. Meanwhile the latest generation Leon E Ecomotive – unveiled earlier this year with an all-new 105 PS 1.6-litre TDI powerplant that now boasts ultra-precise com-

Giving his verdict on SEAT’s twin successes John Murdoch, President of the ASMW, said: ‘The Spor ting categor y is always a crowded one and causes much debate among ASMW members. With so many great
