Look for the GCC Classic sign on the south side of the road. - From Tulsa, take Hwy 51 west out of Tulsa straight to the sale site. - From Oklahoma City, take I-35 north, then take the Stillwater-Hwy 51 exit, proceed to the east side of town.

Writing these letters isn’t my favorite thing but I’ve thought a lot about what I want to say. All of us in this business have lives that revolve around the cattle but it’s the people and the fellowship why everyone loves this so much. We all want to win, we all want to do well and sell the next great one, but at the end of the day it’s the people that make it all worthwhile. It’s going into the quick trip in your hometown and knowing one or two people compared to going into the barn at Denver and knowing everybody, it’s kind of like going home. The people make this business.

A lot of these cattle originated at our ranch in Dupree South Dakota, 850 miles from Stillwater, OK. In many ways it’s became a sort of home away from home. This year as we AI’d cows there was a deep sense of pride. We’ve worked hard to develop a solid cow base and as you look over the set you have contentment as you realize what’s been achieved. I’ve always wanted to share that part of GCC with our customers so they could really view the conditions that these females are developed in; it’s flat out cow country. The prairie is their home, there is no silage truck, no feed wagon, they do it all on their own on the wide open prairie of Dupree, South Dakota. The land, the people, and the cattle, it’s became a part of us and our family. The backdrops and the cover are all pictures Mark Sneed took late this summer of our South Dakota home. The stories we could tell, the memories made, the time spent, and most of all the people. Ken Birkeland has become not only someone we work with day in and day out; he’s a mentor, a true cattlemen, and a great a friend. If it wasn’t for Ken Birkeland we wouldn’t be in South Dakota. We know what it’s like to save a calf from a snowdrift, to AI twenty more head with the headlights from your truck and the light on your phone. It’s all worth it when it comes down to the sense of accomplishment at the year’s end when the calves are weaned, it’s personal but at the same time you look around and realize the group effort that it took to pull it all off. This sale would never happen without the countless hours of countless people. I’m damn proud of the set of cattle GCC has in the offering this year and damn proud of the crew it took to get them all here. I don’t think we’ve ever put together this strong of a set. They define our genetics the whole way through, all the years, all the sweat, and all the work comes down to one day. I’ll be the first to admit, I get excited when I look online or at a sale catalog and see an old Chill Factor cow still getting bragged about on the bottom side of a pedigree or an Irish Whiskey female that has made a champion or high seller somewhere. My family has spent a lifetime developing the genetic base at GCC and they are as good as it gets. We could have put in more pictures and footnotes but there was some cows that where late getting here. It was easier this year to run them up north than it was in Stillwater.

This year Macy won the American Royal 4-H judging contest in Kansas City. It has been a goal of Macy’s to beat her Dad’s record set in Louisville and she shows potential to do just that. It was an emotional day when we got a phone call and she said, “I won it.” We are proud of her.

David’s little girl Halle won her county fair this year; our parents were there to see it. Both Joseph and David where as nervous as alley cat’s waiting for the Champion to be picked. It’s at moments like this that you sit back and realize that family and the people are what this business is all about. A special thanks goes out to the crew at GCC, you all work hard, we appreciate you. Mom and Dad you set the foundation of all of us loving the cattle business, thank you. Lastly to all our friends and customers throughout the years, it’s been a heck a ride, your friendship means the world to us. We hope to see you at the sale on the seventeenth, don’t hesitate to call, we’ll give you our honest opinion and help you all we can.
