The spring 2015 cattle auction season charges on with tremendous bull sales and great demand for Red Angus genetics. With ample feed and moisture supplies at catalog print time, the Missouri Ozark Red Roundup will be an event you do not want to miss. The registered females in this offering are as solid as we have ever seen and some of the top breeders in the region will be bringing some of their best genetics to Springfield, Missouri. With great leadership over the past few years, this auction has developed into one of the most prestigious sales in the country. The variety of extreme superior registered females are second to none and the volume of commercial, top quality females are as good as any auction in the country. Doesn’t everyone need a 357? Our program’s numbering system hit a bullseye with this heifer. She just flat out looks impressive, plus she is backed up with her dam’s 102.0 MPPA score on 10 calves. You want to know what you will have long term, a 10 calf MPPA score is a solid indicator of a great cow. Balanced EPD and bred a little different that the rest of the Armstrong heifer. With her age being a little younger, I did not AI her and held her away from the bull a little longer. I gave her a very short window to be bred (1/10/15 – 2/12/15) and she took! PE to STRR Stud 307 (1671648) – a 55lbs actual birth weight bull with paternal grandsire Red Six Mile Upper Deck 535U, maternal grandsire Red Crowfoot Ole’s Oscar, and Abigrace cow family. The only registered female left on our place will be a heifer that belongs to our boys that they showed and were very successful with. We believe in Red Angus and Red Balancer genetics and will continue to utilize those genetics in our commercial cow/calf operaiton. The heifers are fed a developer ration from weaning to yearling. The females have been managed the same way we manage our commercial cattle. They are expected to breed in a 60 day window and bring a big calf at weaning. They are raised on fescue and mineral alone and are wintered on stock piled fescue with very little supplement. Florence is a daughter of Beckton Nebula and is from the Pelton line of genetics on the dam side. She is 93.8% Red Angus and 6.2% Simmental. She has an excellent disposition, is halter broke and represented the Red Angus breed at the Ozark Empire Fair Jr. Supreme Heifer Show. We had the opportunity to have the Genex sire LSF Odyssey 1029Y cover our red cows in the fall of 2012 and he really left us with some quality cattle. SCLC Annie 3047 represents her sire group well as she’s a moderate sized female that is practical in her design. She’s a bold ribbed, and big middled cow prospect with that deep dark red color. Her dam is an own daughter of LACY FHG Legacy 6097 that has left us with some of our best female producing cows. 1. Name – This is the registered name of the animal.

2. Lot Number – This is the lot number of the animal. Cattle will have a tag in their ear on sale day that corresponds to this number.

3. Reg. # – This is the registration number of the animal. All Red Angus animals can be looked up on the Red Angus website at www.redangus.org and going to the animal search page and using this registration number. 4. Animal Description – This descibes the type of animal each lot is.

5. Calved – This is the date of birth of the animal. 6. Tattoo – This is the ear tattoo of the animal. The calf’s left ear is tattooed with an ID number from the numbering system of the breeder’s choice. The right ear is tattooed with the first owner’s tattoo code letters.

7-8. CED – Calving Ease Direct predicts the profitability of calves being born unassisted out of a 2-year-old heifer. 32. BW EPD – predicts the difference in pounds for birth weight and is also used in the calculation of Red Angus Calving Ease Direct.

33. WW EPD – predicts the difference in pounds for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age).

34. YW EPD – predicts the expected difference in pounds for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). 35. ME – Maintenance Energy predicts differences in daughters’ maintenance energy requirements and is expressed in Mcal/Month.

37. HPG – Heifer Pregnancy predicts the profitability of heifers conceiving to calve at two years of age.

38. CEM – Calving Ease Maternal predicts the profitability of a given animal’s daughters calving unassited at two years of age.

39. STAY – Stayability predicts the profitability of a bull’s daughters remaining in production until at least six years of age.

40. MARB – Marbling score predicts differences for carcass marbling scores as expressed in marbling score units. Higher marbling scores are positively correlated with high carcass quality grades.

41. YG – predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade score and is expressed in USDA Yield Grade units. YG EPD is calculated using the genetic predictions of CW, REA and FAT EPDs. The reliability of Red Angus’ YG EPD is enhanced by using both ultrasound and actual carcass data in the calculation of REA and FAT EPDs.

42. CW – predicts differences in hot carcass weight and is expressed in pounds. Increased Carcass Weight tends to detrimentally affect Yield Grade; the calculation of which also includes Rib Eye Area and Fat Thickness.

43. REA – Ribeye Area predicts differences of carcass Ribeye Area between the 12th and 13th rib. Increased Ribeye Area has a beneficial effect on Yield Grade which also increase Carcass Weight and Fat Thickness.

44. Fat – 12th Rib Fat Thickness predicts differences for carcass fat depth over the 12th rib as expressed in inches.
