Friends,
The Aggen, Bigalk, and Seinola families would like to wish you a warm welcome to the Seventh Annual Oak Meadow Farms Production Sale. We are once again excited to have produced a set of bulls that are backed by the hard-working females that make up our respective programs. As breeders we have been diligent in our genetic selection and are dedicated to producing healthy, high-quality Simmental and SimAngus™ beef cattle. We take our role as your seedstock provider very seriously and will continue to make genetic investments annually to improve the product we offer.
Now more than ever quality genetics and customer service are a must. One example is our popular Oak Meadow Farms influence customer appreciation feeder calf sale held every November. We appreciate and value the relationship we have with Joe Nelson and the industry leading commission firms that he and his family operate in Lanesboro, MN and Decorah, IA.
The cattle in this offering excel in their physical traits and have strong EPDs and Indexes with the common goal of customer success. We welcome you to join us on February 8, 2025 at 1 PM for our 7th Annual Sale that will be held in Cresco, Iowa at the Howard County Ag Education Center. NEW this year, we are excited to host you all on Saturday afternoon for our 7th Annual Sale. The sale will be a video auction in the comfort of the state- of-the-art climate controlled building. We will have videos of the entire offering and welcome you to stop by the farm prior to the sale. The sale cattle will be on display the day before the sale and sale day for your inspection as well. Please feel free to call or text us to discuss the offering, thank you for your interest!

What a ride the entire U.S. Beef Industry has had over the past five years! Sure, not every entity had their hay day in unison with another, but at some point, every moving facet within the business has had a great experience. For the past eighteen months, the cow/calf entity has had their fair share of gravy, and it needs to continue so that it can be passed on, as success only breeds success. The seed stock provider is in a good position as we look towards the spring 2025 bull run, if they have the product that meets the criteria of their prospective customer base. Outfits like Oak Meadow Farms and their astute constituents that host and contribute to the cattle offering, are prime known suspects in the marketplace with the reputation to have the stock that meet the stringent industry standards.
“Doc Lynn”, Matt, and the entire team of Harmony, Minnesota, take great pride in what they have built over the past few decades. They have always bred cattle with size, scale, skeletal integrity, and fertility. Hoof quality became inclusive from day one, given the professional career choice of Lynn Aggen, and along with that came the expectations and the sort on udder quality, disposition, and maternal instinct. The mindset has worked pretty well to this point, and they continue to tweak on the genetic side just like anyone else who desires to stay on top. Over the past five years they have been able to place cattle within some of the finest breeding programs known, CK Cattle and Wager Cattle, Iron Creek Cattle, Kearns Cattle, Werning Cattle, King Cattle, Clear Water Simmentals, and JWC, to name a select few, have all shown confidence in the program through their investments in herd sires and donor females. The OMF prefix has stayed the course to produce the perfect blend of phenotype with the numeric credentials that assist their clientele in achieving their goals for conversion and payweight regardless of market endpoint with sensible calving merit, the right amount of maternal, and carcass value.
Along with the finest people of Harmony, Minnesota, they have close friends of the program in the Bigalk family of Diamond K Simmentals and the Seinola family of Five Star Ranch. Both have been students of the OMF brand and program for many years. Both entities deeply respect Lynn and Matt and are very devout to the sale and the core values the father program has set. One of the sale highlights in the bull pen would be the son of Rockin H Captivate J75,known as Five Star Monument M29, bred by Five Star Ranch. We believe him to be of high quality and demand and quite possibly the very best Purebred Simmental prospect with a red hide anywhere in the land.
As always there will be a very healthy, high quality set of bred females and some will be calved by sale day. These are always a treat to look at and evaluate as the quality never ceases to improve from one year to the next. Several of these females go into other seed stock breeders and end up in the donor pen or at least raising a bull or a female that with nearly double the investment every time. These girls are bred to work and bred to last.
It’s always an enjoyable time in the climate controlled sale facility. The food will be abundant, the fellowship will be plentiful, and the hospitality will be incredible. If you love good cattle and enjoy great people, then we will see you on February 8 at 1:00 PM for the new date but same start time. If the Innovation AgMarketing team can help in any way, please feel free to contact any of us for assistance.
We will see you at the sale!

A GUIDE TO EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES
Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in:
• Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
• Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
• Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
• Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
• Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
• Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
• Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
• Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
• Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.
• Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
• Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.
• Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.
• Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.
• All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
• Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well- conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

From Our Customers
“We have been purchasing bulls from Oak Meadow Farms for most of the last decade. The performance of our calves and market animals has improved dramatically during this time. Their customer service is excellent, and we value their advice in livestock production and animal health. They are an asset to the seedstock industry, and they are really nice people.”
- Loren Mathison - Preston, Minnesota
“We have purchased bulls over the past several years and the results of that standout in the pasture! The females we have invested in are not only replacements, but are cattle that we have used to build out cow herd. The team at Oak Meadow Farms is always willing to lend a helping hand. They know what bulls will fit our program and will help us achieve our production goals!”
- Nate & Lucas Huesinkveld - Decorah, Iowa
“I have purchased a bull, bred, and a flush in past sales; each time thinking I got the buy of the sale. I’ve retained daughters for my herd out of each investment. The bull has bred spring and fall cows each year since he arrived. Perfect toes, second to none disposition, and the presence to win a show. These cattle have made me money, but the relationships and networking opportunities that I’ve gained by doing business with these firms is the most important to me.”

From Our Customers
“Our first exposure to Oak Meadow Farm bulls occurred when one of their bulls found his way into our pasture. He bred our heifers, and we liked how easily they calved and how efficiently they grew. We decided to buy the bull and also a half a half-brother to OMF Long Cut J6. We have been buying bulls from the Aggen family ever since! They started a feeder sale at the Lanesboro Sales Commission, which is the first weekend in November. This has worked very well for us, as we bring them to Lanesboro and sell them with other producers calves sired by Oak Meadow Farms bulls.”
-Jerry McCabe - Lanesboro, Minnesota
“I have been running Oak Meadow Farms bulls for ten years now. In that span of time I have bought 12 bulls. Only the original two from 2015 are no longer here. They have proven themselves in the pasture and in the feedyard. If you can land one of their females, you will not be disappointed!”
- Dean Redington - Scales Mound, Illinois
“We first introduced Oak Meadow Farm genetics into our program 10 years ago, with the purchase of the lead off bull in their Reserve Champion Percentage pen of bulls. We followed up for several years after that selecting open heifers from OMF to build our registered herd. We continued to purchase OMF sires to use on these OMF females to grow our herd. These genetics really clicked with our program and advanced the quality of our cattle. Our private treaty bull sales continue to grow, as well as the bred female offering. These cattle run on a rotational grazing and hay program in Central Minnesota and thrive in this environment. We feel the docility, growth, and efficiency of our herd stems from the strong OMF genetics that we have been using. “Buying seed stock from the OMF brand is seamless. Procuring quality cattle is important as is purchasing them from quality people. Three generational tiers of breeders indicate not only valuable experience but also commitment to their vocation. I’m confident my investment in genetics is sound when backed by such a program”
- Adam J. (AJ) Weis, Burlington, Wisconsin

From Our Customers
“I’m sold on this program. The bulls are docile, have great libido and stay in excellent condition in the pastures. With these genetics, we’ve been able to add significant pounds without frame creep on the replacement females. I’d recommend Oak Meadow bulls to anyone.”
-Pete Burmeister, Burmeister Farms, Rowley, Iowa
“We have been purchasing bulls from Oak Meadow Farms for 15 years to use on our commercial SimAngus cows. We value the docility, structure soundness, and fleshing ability to OMF genetics. Our bulls need to have sound foot structure and be athletic as pasture terrain demands they be able to transverse steep slopes. We own our cattle to the finished product and appreciate how the OMF influenced calves perform in the feedlot. In 2022, we added our first female from guest consignor Diamond K and look forward to the influence she will have. If her first heifer calf is any indication, our daughter has a lot to look forward to in her “first cow’s” impact!”
