Welcome Red Angus Enthusiast! Thank you for showing interest in our operation and the Red Angus breed. The enthusiasm for this great breed of cattle is higher than ever! More feeders are wanting Red Angus influenced calves, more cow/calf operators are appreciating the attributes of a Red Angus cow and more juniors are wanting to show a Red Angus heifer. We have an exciting offering of replacement heifers this year and although our bred heifer numbers are smaller than last year the quality is better than it was. We have decided to lower the number of partnerships we have with some dear friends and customers of ours, creating a unique opportunity to get your hands on championship genetics! We are also selling a flush on our Tilly female that just produced the 2015 NAJRAE Res Champion Female in Grand Island, NE this summer. We have been very busy this past year, like all of you have been too. All three of us are learning our new positions on the farm still but each day seems to get a little bit smoother. Cheryl has been getting more and more busy with the North American Junior Red Angus Event. With its rapid increase in number of exhibitors and contributors the job has gone from part time to almost full time. When she is not busy with NAJRAE she is keeping up with the books, watching Daniel or delivering cattle. Ramsey has been focusing on improving our cow herd from a herd health standpoint. He has been a great asset to our operation and knows how to bring the best out in the cattle. Cassie is still trying to find the next great one and when it comes time to pick sires to breed to we all just try to stay away from her. She is never satisfied with her selection but never gives up looking. Ramsey and Cassie’s son, Daniel, is growing like a weed and with as much traveling he gets to do we think he may be a world traveler someday. He would rather be outside instead of inside and he would prefer to be in the barn instead of at the park. This October he will be welcoming a little sister into the family. We all hope she waits to make her appearance until after the sale. We believe in promoting Red Angus cattle to the youth for many reasons. 1- no matter what they grow up to be they will have the ability to educate and inform their non ag related neighbors, friends, business colleagues, etc. 2- having a heifer in the barn teaches them responsibility, a work ethic and educates them on how to manage and market their heifer. 3- going to a show with your parents, grandparents or friends is some of the best quality time you will have. 4- they will meet kids and families that will become life long friends. The list can go on but I think I have made my point. With all the negativity going on in the country today it is easy as parents to worry about what the future holds for our kids. You never do know what lies ahead but you can do everything possible to prepare them for it. I do not know who wrote this quote but I really do believe it. “It is not about the ribbons, for the ribbons will fade, and the trophies grow old. Money’s soon spent and fame soon grows old. The important things are not ribbons or pins, and sometimes it’s really the loser that wins. The important things are the friends you make, the experience you take, working as a team, cooperation and dedication. They’ll help you become a mighty fine person. They’ll do more for you than a prize ever can.” We hope you are able to make it to the sale and if not you can always watch us online or bid on the phone. The sale will start at 6:30 with supper served before. Come early to look at the cattle, see old friends and make new ones! Very Truly, Cheryl, Cassie, Ramsey & Daniel Johnson

COWBOY KIND Family
The
Maternal Sister to Lot 1
Lot one has been a standout since the day she was born. That is why I found it fitting for her to lead off the offering. Charli has the long, feminine front end that will catch the judges eye when she walks in the ring. Besides her obvious phenotypic attributes, this heifer is backed by a tremendous cow family. BJR Sheba 4X-551 is still in production at the ripe age of 17. Sheba has produced many outstanding females for operations across the country. She is also the maternal grandam to lot two. We strongly believe that great cows make great calves and this is proof of that. We are retaining the right to one flush with a minimum of 10 fertilized eggs.

Lot two is a dark cherry red long and fancy female similar to lot one. This heifer is deeper and softer middled than lot one but not as thick. We have had enough heifers out of the X-Celerate 029X cow that I can tell you they are going to make beautiful feminine females, that will not overwhelm you with muscle, but more with their balance and eye appeal. She stamps them all with the same dark red hair coat, long angular front third and capacity in a nice moderate framed package. Red Legends 7
If you want to add some different genetics to your program without sacrificing power and performance then you need to take a look at lot three. This female is stout from the ground up. Big dark hoof on her, lots of bone and a ton of muscle. The Stronghold calves for us seem to go through an ugly duckling stage from about six months to eight months and then they start to fill out. Lot three’s dam is a powerhouse cow. Anyone who stops by to look at cattle always notice her first. She injects muscle without sacrificing the maternal qualities into her progeny.

Daniel Muller of Muller Farms purchased the dam to this female with his family when she sold as a bred in 2012. Daniel showed the dam and lot four as a cow calf pair at the NAJRAE this year. Now that Daniel has moved to Brookings, SD to continue his education at SDSU he needs money. Lot 4 has some solid old school genetics bred into her. The Citation 138 bull was a great bull in the Ravishing Red herd in Nebraska but died at a young age. The X-tra Flame cow has been a tremendous producer. Her progeny have been sale toppers and highlights for both the Muller program as well as ours. This heifer is very gentle.

The
YOSEMITE 1143Y Family This may be one of the most unique Yosemite females we have ever sold. Big foot, big bone, stout and lots of style from the side. This heifer would work great as a jackpot female in the junior shows. Her dam is a bigger framed belly dragger that gets put on the 3W diet plan of Wind, Water and Weeds and she still maintains her easy keeping condition. Lot five has been a favorite of Ramsey’s over the summer and when you come to see her sale time I think you will know why.

Lot six is a long patterned female that is a little green right now but with time and feed she has the potential to really blossom. She is built with a solid hoof, adequate bone and muscle. She may be one of the steals of the day. Her dam is an older female that has just slowed down in milk production in the last year but don’t let that turn you away from this heifer. We have had quite a few Dina cows in our herd over the years and they are good, solid producing cows. I think lot six will be just like that. Red Legends 9
The
YOSEMITE 1143Y Family Lot seven is a very eye appealing heifer calf that has the disposition of a kitten. She is a well rounded female that can strike a pose but more importantly her real time to shine will be when she is in the pasture as a cow. She has Persuasion, Tess and Bailey cows in her pedigree. “We DON’T breed Show Cattle, We show Breeding Cattle. That is exactly what lot seven is. Consigned by Five Star Ranch.

This cute little fancy female will be great for the first time junior looking for a pet. Caprice is bred Cowboy Cut and Persuasion top and bottom for a maternal powerhouse and I think that is what you will get out of her. She is the same size Persuasion was as a calf but don’t let that fool you from the amount of performance she will inject into her calves down the road. Lot eight is a great starter heifer for a junior. Red Legends 10
The
SLGN
Family When this female was first born she really looked like X-Files. Since she has been weaned she started looking a little more like Billings. It is always interesting watching these calves develop over the months and to see who they end up taking after more. Carmen is a stout made female that has plenty of dimension and length. Her disposition is great for anyone to be around. The Stony LA996 cow produced some great bulls and females over her years here and I think the 068X cow is on her way to doing the same. Don’t miss out on getting a piece of this cow family.

This year we were short on heifer numbers in our January and February calvSister to Lot 10 ing group. In order to have a decent amount of females on our sale we had to go to our younger pen and pull out females that we were hoping to keep back and sell as breds. I guarantee you this female will only continue to get better with time. Late this summer she cut her hoof line which put her at a disadvantage. I think even by sale time she will really start coming on. Her full sister is SLGN X-clusive, the dam to lot three. Conclusive is a thick moderate framed female that has the depth of body and rib shape we all love to see in our replacement heifers.

Lot 13 has that nice dark red hair coat that is in high demand. In our Spring online sale we sold a full sister to this heifer. That heifer has developed into a real brood cow prospect and I think that is exactly what 13 will do in time as well. Her dam is a larger framed cow and we have been very happy with the quality of calves she has produced for us over the years. Give this one a little time and she will shine. Red Legends 12

We purchased this females mom out of the Erdman Red Angus Dispersal in Aberdeen, SD last fall. We liked the 989 cow because of her added frame, sound foot, big hip and solid build. I think that pretty much describes her daughter to a T. Lot 14 has really taken off on a growth curve in the last two months. Now that she has slowed down growing and is starting to fill out there is no doubt in my mind that this heifer will make a whale of a cow when she is done in the showring. Nice profile, good hip and she is dark red!

These two females are consigned by Puhrmann Red Angus. They may be in our younger group but just wait until you see them. Lot 15 is just a May baby but she has a very bright future ahead of her. Her dam came from Batterson Red Angus and she is a very powerful cow that has done a great job raising this female. Both females will have updated pictures, videos and information by the third week of September. Lot 16 was a natural poser out in the pasture so we thought we would give you a sneak peek on her. She is a very eye appealing April heifer calf that has the skeleton and design to become a fancy show heifer. After you are done showing them take them home and make tremendous cows out of them because after all that is what our end goal is. Red Legends 13
The
PERSUASION AND
Last year we put in 10 Persuasion X Yardmaster embryos and we got 5 heifer calves and 3 bull calves. When all 5 heifer calves grow and develop into females like these I would say the genetics are pretty powerful. Persuasion has always been a prolific producer for us and a very consistent producer of good ones. If you look through our catalog there are 12 lots of open heifers that go back to Persuasion either on the top or bottom side of their pedigree. I think that sums up everything that needs to be said about the Persuasion female. We took lot 17 and 18 to the state fair but I am

not sure they are the best two of the group. They are probably the two heaviest muscled sisters in relation to the other three. I really appreciate lot 17 for her angularity through her front third and how she is loaded with so much dimension from there back. She is very square hipped and has a great disposition. Lot 18 is a darker red heifer that has more length of body in relation to 17 but not as much top shape. She is getting better but I would still recommend her for an experienced showman. Lot 19 is the longest fronted of these three and is very stout out of her upper hip. I think Lot 19 has a bright future with a little more time. Her potential down the road is unmeasurable. The youngest of the 5 flushmates may be the fanciest. Chesney is as smooth made as they come. She is very angular through her front third, has plenty of volume from her shoulders back and still gives you a good look from behind. I know the question will be, “which one of the five is the best?” and my answer will always be the same. It depends on what type of a cow you want in production for you down the road. Two of these females are heavier muscled. Two of them are more feminine featured a little flatter but fancier. One of them is just a little green but has the hip and skeleton to be just as stout as the others but maybe not has feminine and angular through her front end.

3/4 sister to Lots 15-19. Lot 21 rounds out the flusmate sisters, some could say we saved the best for last. This one is made a lot like 19 but in a bigger framed package. She is very dimensional in her rib shape and I really love how square she is out of her hip. She is a little darker red than some of her sisters which makes her even more eye catching out in the pen. We received these three heifers from a satellite herd in southern Iowa the first week in August while they were still on the cow. By the time we got them home and adjusted to life up North we were needing to get them weaned so they would be ready for the sale. Because of that we were unable to get their pictures taken before the catalog deadline arrived. However, by the third week in September we will have pictures and videos of them posted on our web site and facebook page. Go to www.solutiongenetics.com to see what they look like. I am sorry for the inconvenience but trust me it is worth the wait. These three females are different in size but similar in their type and kind. They are smooth in their design, deep sided and very level down their top and out of their hip. From a show-ring standpoint lot 24 will be in a different division than the other two as a bred heifer. The National Junior Show is in Louisville in 2016 and these females will still be nice and fresh for the ring. Two years ago we sold a full sister in our sale and since she has been in production she has maintained her condition and has a nice beautiful udder. From what we have seen the Yardmaster daughters are doing a great job their first year in production. Their calves are putting pounds on and they are breeding back first time. Jake Tiedeman from Ravishing Reds in North Platte, NE has two Yardmaster first calf heifers and he is ecstatic about how good of a job they are doing. He believes they are the best two Red Angus first calf heifers they have ever had on their place. Their udders are potent, pretty and just the right size. Yardmaster semen is on the open market. Be sure to contact us for to get yours today.

Every year there is always that one female that I really do not want to sell. This year Cookie is that female for me. We were fortunate enough to have Bruce Westhuis call Dad up a few years ago and ask if he supplied the semen if he could flush Montana Creek to one of our donors. Without hesitation Dad said absolutely any cow you want. Bruce thought he would work pretty good on our Persua- JRA Monte 91- Montana Creek Daughter sion, I think Bruce was pretty right. Montana Creek was raised by Bruce and sold to James Red Angus. He had an unfortunate accident and died at a young age with very little semen on hand. I don’t believe there is anymore Montana Creek semen available, the last semen sold in the NAJRAE benefit auction in 2011 for about $1700/straw. It is hard to find many pictures of Montana Creek daughters since there was a limited amount of semen to sell. TC Reds had success with the Fiona cow winning NAJRAE Champion Female and the National Junior Red Angus Show Reserve Champion Female title along with many other championships that year. JRA Monte 91 sold in the James Red Angus Dispersal and has been in the donor pen for us and High Ridge Red Angus. Besides her pedigree this female is one of the most complete females we have ever had. She will not wow a judge in the ring with a “freaky” look but she will get their attention because she does such a good job of combining femininity with power and brood cow potential. Like I said before, I really do not want to sell her and that is why we are retaining 50% interest in this female. For any questions on the terms of the partnership feel free to give us a call. This may be one of the best Black Angus females we have ever raised. I know if she had a red hide she would be selling for big money. Every term that you would use to describe a show cow can be used on this female. She is in the top 15% for WW, YW & Milk. This is the type of female you can build on.

I really like this female because she is able to maintain the deep soggy look but has more expression of muscle shape down her top, out of her hip and into her lower quarter. This is the natural calf off of a 14year old cow. I would say that cow has done her job. Every year we have a strong female or bull calf out of her that ends up topping our blacks.

This female is a belly dragger and will make a really good easy keeping cow down the road. I really appreciate her long top and swoop to her belly. I believe she took more after her dam than Classen. The 1605 cow has been a very consistent producer for us and I can say that with confidence because if they can’t raise a good looking one then they are put into our recip herd. Red Legends 18
The
bred heifers This female was suppose to be on our sale last year as a calf but due to an injury right before the sale we had to pull her. This year she is healthy and ready to become a cow. Her sire, Yosemite is known for putting muscle and length into his progeny and lot 29 is a prime example of that. She is long patterned, smooth shouldered, big topped and loaded with muscle. I believe she is going to be the kind of female that will consistently stamp her calves with her look. Precision and Persuasion are top and bottom in her pedigree. I like to rely on the good ol’ days of selecting cattle. This female has a wide set to her eyes = she is wide and capacious. Blockana 692-8403U is another female Bruce Westhuis purchased from us as a bred heifer. She is a direct daughter to Blockana 692 and a maternal sister to the first ever Triple Crown Winner, Blockanna 807. In our 2014 Red Legends we sold a daughter to 8403 to the Batterson family from Iowa. I have watched her grow and develop and she is going to become a really good cow for the boys down the road. 8403 puts a nice long and feminine front third in her calves without sacrificDaughter to 8403 ing the dimension and muscle that is demanded of the cattle industry today. Made Right is a partnership cow with the RA Brown Ranch. We showed her in 2008 along with our Tess cow. She is a very long bodied large framed cow that will inject that and pounds into her progeny. What I really like about this female is the size and quality of foot that she has one her. We are selling her in her entirety. She was flushed at the Brown Ranch before we received her and I do not have those records but while she was here she was flushed 7 times and averaged 4 embryos per flush. She is currently bred to calve early March to PZC TMAS Nighthawk 2796 Reg #1568476

Tess X Cowboy Cut
Our final donor cow offering is a special one. She is a Two-Time National Champion Female and the dam to SLGN Yardmaster 125Y. Tess won the 2008 National Show in Ft Worth and then turned around and won the NILE as a bred. She is the dam to the lot 7 female and the lot 47 embryos. We have tried a few different types of bulls on her and no matter what they always make good, solid producing bulls or females. Tess is most known for producing the This last calving season Tess had twins and one died. The one that is still alive is a Patron bull calf that would please any commercial cattleman or woman. She is currently open and ready to be flushed. We are selling 50% interest with the opportunity for the buyer to take all of her.

We have had a lot of success out of this mating. Majority of the ET calves out of Adina have been red with one or two blacks. Adina is a phenomenal cow, her pedigree is stacked with great producers. This mating has proven itself at our place. We have 1 full sister in production here and more hitting the ground this fall.

Full Sister This may be the best mistake we have ever made. We ordered Red Angus semen from a company, they shipped it and we flushed to it the next day. Fast forward to January and instead of red calves we have black calves. Good reminder to always check the semen. Full sibs will be on display sale day and when you see them you will love the performance, eye appeal and muscle shape they have.

Flushmate sibs to Lots 17-21 in the sale. In March we sold flushmate brothers to these embryos and they were highly recieved. The genetics are proven, the promotion on these calves have already started, now all you have to do is calve them out. This is the type of pedigree that you can build a herd around. Red Legends 29

Paternal Sister
This is a powerful mating. Selling 3 embryos out of the 2012 National Junior Grand Champion female and the up and coming Stronghold. We have a few bull calves on the ground out of this mating and they are performance oriented. Long patterned, nice muscle shape and big. The calves have come easy and they hit the ground growing. A maternale sister to these embryos was Division Champion at the 2015 NAJRAE. These will be some of the last Yoninah embryos that we sell for a few years so do not miss this opportunity.

Paternal Sister These are going to be a hot commodity in the next two years. The Cowboy Kind bull is making waves with his first calf crop this year. They are easy calving, stout and the females are fancy. United 8304U is a tremendous cow that has produced heavy muscled, pounds heavy calves that are highly marketable. This mating is sure to produce stout, soggy, low maintenance calves. The bulls will look like bulls and the females will look like females.
We have more Red and Black Angus embryos for sale privately. For more information contact Cassie.
