Welcome to Sierra Ranches!
KATHRYN, TIM, TYLER, & KARA COLEMAN
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Western Treasures, Volume IV. This year’s annual production sale is full of the genetics, phenotype and cowman’s type of cattle. We are excited to offer this set of females and bulls that are backed by some of the most prolific cow families in the Hereford breed. By combining our bull and female sale it allows us to highlight our program to you. This group of bulls is our best set to date, being sound footed, powerfully constructed and carrying a well-balanced set of genomic values to back them up. By bringing Hereford bulls into our commercial program we have seen firsthand what this breed can do. Herefords have increased our weaning weights, fertility and longevity, along with bringing in a great deal of docility. The baldy steers and heifers produced from these bulls have worked great. Whether it’s the steers in the feedlot or the heifers used as replacements entering the cow herd, they have truly been our best. Having our own commercial herd allows us to also use our California Homegrown Bulls in our herd and collect the data that tells us what these bulls can do for our customers. In the best interest of the beef industry and belief in our cattle, we continue to feed them out to verify our genetic direction. As you can see, this has allowed us to be vertically integrated from the purebred breeder to the beef packer. You can see our latest carcass results on the next page in this catalog. The registered bred heifers we have selected for this year’s sale were selected on the basics of high-quality genetics, udder quality, easy keeping, structurally sound cattle with well-balanced EPDs. Our donor battery is from the leading cow families in the breed; they not only look good phenotypically, but also have the proven genetics behind them to create consistency. We are also offering pot loads of fall-calving commercial females and commercial open replacement heifers from the heart of our commercial herd that are backed by the same genetic base as our registered herd. We have continued our commitment to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) by initiating the Foundation 1 Club. Our commitment is to donate 1% of our sale’s gross to the HYFA organization. We hold a strong belief in helping our future generations and ensuring their opportunities in the livestock industry. It has been exciting see other breeders joining into the Foundation 1 and to support the next generation in the cattle industry. In closing, we welcome you to Sierra Ranches and feel that this sale offering is what Purebred, Commercial Cattleman and young breeders are looking to add to their cowherds. These cattle have worked great in both herds of our program— commercial and purebred. They will work in yours, as well. We look forward to seeing you September 25, 2020, at our 1412 Albers Road location in Modesto, California. First and foremost, it is our customers who make us successful and we thank each of you for your continued support. We want to give special thanks to the following for their continued help: Grant Peterson, Tyler Kindle, Steven Pozzi, Don Jarvis, Pedro Gullien and Enrique Sanchez and want to welcome Steve Patton to the Sierra Ranch team and thank him for his help in preparation for the sale.

SALE MANAGER’S COMMENTS Matt Sims (405) 641-6081 PO Box 1219 • Edmond, OK 73083 matt@mcsauction.com www.mcsauction.com
Dear Friends & Fellow Cattlemen,
Welcome to the Western Treasures Volume IV Sale at Sierra Ranch. I first want to take this opportunity to again thank Tim, Kara, Tyler, Kathryn and the Sierra crew for allowing me to be a part of their marketing team. The effort and passion they put into this program is evident in the cattle they produce and how they present them. I am honored to be involved in the merchandising of such an outstanding set of Hereford cattle. I also want to welcome Steve Patton to the Sierra team and look forward to working with him in the years to come. Sierra has again assembled an outstanding set of herd sire prospects that sell as lots 1 through 49 to complement the elite set of Hereford bred heifers selling as lots 50 through 59. The addition of the fall-calving commercial females and fall-yearling commercial replacement heifers should add a new and exciting element to this year’s sale. Tim, Kara, their family and crew have assembled a sound, functional group that excel in phenotype and individual performance while maintaining a strong genetic base with numerical balance and diversity. Whether you are purchasing your next herd bull or simply adding to your herd, seeking an outstanding donor or looking for top commercial females, you will find what you are looking for among this exceptional offering. For each transaction that is made, Sierra Ranch wants the customer to be satisfied. Everything they do is in an effort to build lasting relationships and they always stand behind their product. This herd is built from the foundation of what Tim and Kara have determined to be the breed’s most influential cow families. The positive impact the cow families in this herd have had on the Hereford industry in terms of cultivating and improving the real-world traits of udder quality, calving-ease, feed efficiency, fertility and functional design is second-to-none. When you examine the pedigrees in this offering, you will find breed leading sires and top income generating donor cows are a common occurrence in the lineage of this herd. The bottom line is…SIERRA RANCH GENETICS PAY. Please see the letter from Dale Moore of Cattleman’s Choice Feedyard below that spells out the profit potential Sierra customers stand to gain by taking advantage of the genetics in this set of bulls. I encourage you to evaluate the needs of your program, and join us for food and fellowship at the sale on September 25, 2020. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or if I can help you in any way. Sincerely, Matt C. Sims

Cattleman’s Choice Feedyard is an industry leader in feeding GAP, Verified Natural and NHTC cattle. I have fed a lot of western type cattle and Sierra Ranches is one of the top. The cattle gain, convert, and grade all in the same package. That’s very important when you take out all the implants and feed additives that conventional feedyards use. That speaks highly of the genetics these cattle carry. The cattle always stay healthy and are very easy to handle. There’s nothing in the cattle business that makes you more money than Good Genetics. Dale Moore, Owner/Manager Cattleman’s Choice Feedyard ***NOTE*** The set of 54 head of Sierra Hereford Bull sired, black baldy steers, we fed that were killed on 2/5/18 paid on a live weight of 1,302 lbs. after gaining 3.66 lbs. per day with no implants with a dry matter conversion of 6.04 and a cost of gain of $0.83 and earned a $210.46 per head premium after grading as follows...

Grandam of Lots 6-8
The dam of lot 5 and grandam of lots 6 – 8, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman. We selected her from Hoffman’s 2013 Fall Sale at $175,000 which was a breed tying record sales price at that time and she has since proven her worth time and time again, as is evident in the sons and daughters that represent her in this offering. She is one of the very top cows in the breed and combines curve bending EPDs with tremendous eye appeal, udder quality and structure. She has already produced almost $1 million in progeny sales including the Sierra herd sire, SR Rooster Cogburn 8002 ET who was the $80,000 top-selling lot from the 2018 Western Treasures Sale as well as the $180,000 new record selling female for the Hereford breed that sold in Hoffman’s 2014 Fall Sale and her three daughters that averaged over $14,000 in the Western Treasures Volume I. Her daughters are some of the top females in our herd and across the breed, and she has sons working in many top registered herds across the U.S. Her impact will be felt in the Hereford breed for many generations to come.

Addison 2018
Dam of Lots 13, 37 & 54, Grandam of Lot 14
We selected the $60,000 dam, Addison, as the top-selling heifer calf in the 2012 Hoffman Ranch Production Sale. Addison went on to be named the 2013 Junior National Hereford Expo Grand Champion Polled Female and has since made her name as the featured donor in the Sierra herd and has continued to add to her lore with sons like lots 13 and 37 in this offering and the sons that sold as lots 101 and 102 in Western Treasures Vol. 2 to Wheeler Farms in Oklahoma and James Musante, Sonora, CA; lots 101 thru 105 in Western Treasures Vol. 1; and the four daughters that averaged $13,000 in that same sale. Addison 2018 is the result of famous mating of 755T with the $117,500, Gemini 89T. The dam lots 50 & 51 and grandam of lot 52, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman.
