Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts, I’ll be honest, we had to call Tom and ask about the existence of the Kearns’ homestead, but we believe you will enjoy the story. This event essentially represents over a century of ranching heritage, multiple decades beyond, in fact. That fact matters more than most give it credit for, but the seedstock division started forward progression just past 1977 when Tom moved his bride back to the best place to ranch and raise a family. If you have never been, this is the year to come to the sale. The entertainment value is all in the bull pen, we promise. The bulls have had as many challenges as any region of the country has had in the last 5 years. Extremely wet conditions hindered more than hay production in western Nebraska this past growing season. So, that said, the stock has rebounded in tremendous fashion and the cattle are as good as they have ever been in Rushville. Per usual, ideal picture weather was not found, but the posted videos will represent the program and the finished product. For those that have been fans or haters of the $120,000 Fort Worth High Seller, Exclusive, this will be the initial season of the proving ground! We believe this sire group is loaded with doability, shape, and body, not to mention look and productive eye appeal to the upper, foremost level! On another note, for those that doubt, the percentage cattle and the lion’s share of the purebreds not in Denver are undoubtedly worthy of a look as well! These cattle are promised to not disappoint for those that make the trip to Sheridan county Nebraska. The hospitality will be plentiful and the people that back them are exceptional. The customer feedback over the past five years has been phenomenal and the reported customer service is consistent with more than satisfied. Please consider this your personal invitation to the real world. The world where families thrive ranching and animal/production agriculture is commonplace. Join us in Northwest Nebraska, just 2 hours south of Rapid City and the Mount Rushmore Monument, March 5, 2020. The vision of 2020 is picture perfect!

Selection Tools
A Guide to Expected Progeny Differences Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well- conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

K
earns Cattle Company has always been based emphasis around breeding cattle that work for our customers. Through changing trends, fads, and market fluctuations we have always remained focused on producing beef cattle that remain sound structured, fertile, maternal, efficient, and come to the weaning pen with pay weight. At the end of the day, this is what counts! The lead off pair of flush brothers are from the most successful mating at Kearns Cattle Company and backed by the two most dominant producers, Victoria and Dolly. This mother daughter duo is responsible for countless herd sires, donor dams, and individuals of influence within the Simmental Breed. Sired by Hammer, making these two brothers full sibs to the $120,000 ½ Interest KCC1 Exclusive 116E that was the high selling lot in the 2018 Cowtown Classic. Exclusive is well represented in the 2020 offering with 31 sons and two full brothers selling! Other brothers to these two herd bull candidates are working for the Sulak family of Texas, one for Kelly Holderread of Oklahoma, Adam Dryer of Illinois, Brian Schied of Nebraska, Kory Kessinger of Colorado, and Bar O Cattle Company in Kansas. The proof is in the progeny, and the late Victoria has written her chapter, just as Dolly has done herself. Consistent, reliable, proven, and time-tested genetics. CC1 Hammer 359G is a three-quarter brother to several sale feature percentage SimAngus bulls that sold in our 2019 sale and were members of our class winning Percentage pen at the 2019 NWSS. Those brothers to 359G were sired by Classified, the impressive Dolly son that walked at Hudson Pines Farms in New York. A true performance-oriented stud that came to the weaning pen with over 750 pounds of pay weight. He ranks top 25% WW, top 25% YW, top 25% CW, top 20% BF, and top 25% REA. The dam of 359G is the productive Limestone Star W992 matron that is by BC Lookout 7024 and backed by the legendary SVF Sheza Star S803. Maternal stability, predictability, and true functionality line his pedigree and we expect 359G to leave behind a trail of productive replacements.

e start the Exclusive sire group with a tremendous trio of brothers that are from the CBAR BD Sara 927W matriarch that works in the A&D Sulak Farms program of Texas. 927W was a past high selling female in the Circle M Farms dispersal sale. These bulls exemplify power, substance, functionality, and shear performance. Exclusive exceeded all expectations in his rookie calf crop, and we are ecstatic for what is to come. As a sire group they are true beef cattle with real-world performance, shape, and genuine base width. Structurally speaking, these bulls are big footed, deep healed, and travel with athleticism. 3009G and 2014G made the trip to the National Western Stock Show in Denver where 3009G was a member of our class winning pen of three Purebred bulls. Numerically, these bulls offer excellent spread from birth to yearling with balanced traits across the board. The actual data confirms the impact that these three brothers will have on the business. All three brothers were born in the 80-pound range, and all weaned off at over 760 pounds of Payweight. This visual performance, substance of body, muscle, and mass combined is what sets these brothers into a league of their own. This mating has proven consistent on the female side of the equation, as a full sister was sold in The Black Label last fall commanding $15,000. A true example of power in the blood!

The Exclusive Sire Group
Lot 7 Without question 338G and 317G are two of the most unique bulls among the offering. They are sired by the popular KCC1 Exclusive and backed by the Limestone Star W992 matriarch. A three-quarter brother to 359G that sells as lot 3. The Hammer influence seems to always click with tremendous success when mated to W992. In 2019, W992 produced several Classified sons that were among the featured lots in our 30th annual sale. 338G sets the standard for body mass, capacity, volume, and shear dimension from every angle. These cattle come easy, grow fast, and never miss a bea6t when it comes to conversion and daily gain. 338G offers a sensible 79-pound birth weight and came to the weaning pen at 800 pounds!
Lot 8 317G is big boned, wide bodied, square hipped and also offers tremendous real-world spread from birth to weaning. There is no doubt that this mating works and we believe that both bulls are candidates for use on well managed virgin heifers, yet will not sacrifice the added power, pounds, and fleshing ability that reflects your bottom line!

T
he next set of brothers are from arguably one of the most successful flushes at Kearns Cattle Company. When we purchased SB Peg 506 from our good friends at Sisco Brothers we knew that this female was destined to make an impact in our donor pen. Not only did 506 prove to set the bar when it came to fertility, but the Exclusive mating proved to be as consistent and uniform as any set of half-blood SimAngus bulls ever born in Rushville. These six brothers are modern, stout, and thick. From the ground up they are designed with true athleticism, structural integrity, and genuine base width. These brothers were extremely consistent in their birth weights, with all of them ranging from the mi 70’s to the low 80’s and coming unassisted. The vigor, performance, and conversion capabilities that these Exclusive sons offer is second to none. From their sensible birth weights, this flush of brothers all came to the weaning pen pushing down the scales with over 700 pounds of pay weight. These 506 sons are true calving ease options that rank among the top 15% for CE, top 25% for BW, and remained balanced in their number profile across the board. Consistency is key, calving ease is critical, and performance from birth to weaning is necessary to be profitable. If you’re searching for full brothers to turn out to increase uniformity within your next calf crop, the search is over!

KCC Carver 65C is a past high seller, commanded $33,000 to the Carver group in 2016 shortly after he was the lead off bull in the National Western Stock Show Grand Champion pen of three Purebred Simmental bulls. Carver has evolved as one of the most consistent, dominant, and predictable sons of Dolly that we have ever used. The genuine shape, body capacity, structural integrity, foot design, and real-world performance that the Carver progeny offer is second to none. Carver’s consistency is due primarily to the maternal stability of his dam, the legendary Ford RJ Dolly Y83 matriarch. Carver has proven to work on Purebred, Percentage, and Angus females with great success, and the buyer and bidder demand that his progeny have had is hard to compare to. These cattle come easy, offer excellent vigor, rapid growth, and true performance. SB Peg 506 has evolved as one of the premier Angus donors that we have in embryo production. We purchased this big bodied, stout made, good looking Angus female from our friends at Sisco Brothers Cattle Company in Syracuse, Nebraska with high hopes for the impact she would make on our halfblood sector, allowing new genetics to build from. 506 is sired by the renowned SAV Brilliance 8077 and from the famed Peg cow family that has experienced much success for other programs such as Hoffman Ranch. Here is a powerful set of flush mate brothers that are the kind we hang our hat on. Structurally they are stout, big bodied, easy feeding bulls with tremendous power, shape, and capacity. These flush brothers offer balanced numbers to accompany their phenotype. Add consistency, pounds, and profit to your calf crop with a tremendous set of Carver sons on March 5, 2020 in Rushville!

avanna is the lone sister that was produced from the Hammer x Victoria mating that yielded over $250,000 worth of herd bulls that work in top programs across North America. She is one of the stoutest, squarest made, most three-dimensional females we have ever produced, yet she handles herself with shear athleticism, and a maternal look of quality that can’t be denied. This set of flush brothers are by the $400,000 Profit that has influenced the beef industry with great success over the last 5 years. This fall Havanna produced a Profit heifer that sold for $13,000 and a heifer calf by Innovator that sold for $8,000. The Profit x Havanna mating exceeded expectations to say the least. These Profit sons offer tremendous balanced, structural integrity, and design with an eye-appealing look that is second to none. Havanna is just a three-year-old now with her first set of ET calves highlighting this offering, but it is safe to say that she will follow in the footsteps of her dam and grandam when it comes to generating elite Simmental seedstock. attle Cry is the Broker son that was raised by Ruby and Shipwreck. He is from the famed Yetti donor dam that is also the dam of Economy, one of our walking sires that was purchased in 2018 with Jerry Adamson as the second-high selling bull at Ruby Cattle Company’s annual bull sale. The Battle Cry progeny are stout, thick, wide, and deep cattle that offer an excellent presence and eye-appeal. The dam of this powerful set of flush brothers is the great KR Savannah 27Y, most widely known as the dam of the legendary Angus sire, KR Casino 6243. Casino took the breed by storm when he was on display in Denver as a calf in the Krebs Ranch carload prior to topping their sale at $49,500 to Badger Creek Cattle Company. This flush yielded a standout set of half-blood SimAngus bulls that are destined to make a major impact on the business. What is more exciting to us about this mating is that the females are just as good, and all made their way straight into the replacement pen. They will offer outcross foundation SimAngus genetics to our Simmental cow herd and help to create the next generation of SimGenetic seedstock for our customers. Study the consistency, power, and presence that these herd bull prospects offer!

CC1 Estelle 510E is a maternal sister to the $120,000 Exclusive that is sired by the top Broker son that was raised by Ruby and Shipwreck. Battle Cry is in turn backed by SWC Ruby Yetti 143Y, one of the most phenotypically appealing females in the business that consistently produces herd sire caliber sons and donor caliber females. Estelle topped The Event sale at $30,000 to our friends at Forster Ranch and went on to be in the top 10 at the largest and most competitive Junior National heifer show in recent years when it was held in Minnesota. Estelle is a striking female with superb udder quality, volume, length, and dimension. She has evolved into a role model female just like we anticipated from an early age. Estelle will follow in the footsteps of her late dam, the iconic TKCC Victoria 57A. This pair of Purebred herd sire candidates are balanced numerically, stout featured, rugged in their design, and flawless on the move. The longevity that is identified through the influence of Dolly and Yetti line the pedigree of these full brothers. Power in the blood! March 5, 2020

he staple Angus donor in our program, TR Ms Precision 2077Z has proven that she can produce at the highest and most elite level time after time. Her mating to Carver put her on the map two years ago when some of the best cattlemen in the business purchased sons through the ring here in Rushville. We decided that we would try her to a wider selection of Purebred Simmental sires that we have been using on the Simmental side of our program with great success. Ruby SWC Battle Cry 431B worked just like we expected it to here and we couldn’t be more excited about the results. This pair of brothers ranks top 15% CE, top 35% BW, top 3% WW, top 3% YW, top 10% ADG, top 10% MCE, top 10% MCE, top 20% MWW, top 15% CW, top 25% Shr, top 35% API, and top 10% TI. The maternal sisters to these two studs will make a substantial impact within our program moving forward.

KCC Currency 55G and TKCC Currency 1820G are from the newest and hottest young sire in the breed, Ruby’s Currency 7134E. Currency topped the sale season two years ago as the $435,000 stud that sold through Hartman Cattle Company’s annual bull sale. Dolly certainly needs no introduction to our program or the Simmental business. Dolly has created sons that would include the $100,000 Cannon, $70,000 Classified, $40,000 Frost, $33,000 Carver, $32,000 Certified, $28,000 Escalade, and the $26,000 Cash Money to name a few of the sires of impact that she has produced. Countless daughters of Dolly have wrote their own chapters in the history books as well, led by the great TKCC Victoria 57A, a female that has generated close to a half-million in progeny sales before her demise last winter. Other daughters are working for top programs across the country with great success. R Casino 6243 is one of the most impressive and intriguing Angus sires that we have EVER laid our eyes on. Casino was the popular son of Savannah 27Y that was the talk of the yards at the National Western a few years ago prior to topping the Krebs Ranch sale at $49,500 to Badger Creek Cattle Company. Casino made his mark as the 2017 American Royal ROV Grand Champion Angus Bull and the 2017 NAILE ROV Reserve Grand Champion Angus Bull. We decided that we were going to incorporate Casino into our breeding program after we saw him and his dam. In fact, we liked Casino so much and appreciated what he brings to the table that we purchased his dam from Krebs Ranch. Power, performance, shape, and structural integrity. These cattle are stout, high performing, and offer added length and scale. The dam of this trio of bulls is Tiara 1Z, the Driver donor that continues to impress us with her consistency and maternal functionality. These flush brothers chart top 25% WW, top 20% YW, top 20% ADG, top 4% Milk, top 5% MWW, and top 35% CW. Tiara - Dam of Lots 78 - 80

O
ur admiration for KR Casino 6243 began in Denver and only continued as we watched him mature into one of the most impressive Angus bulls that has ever been campaigned. His stoutness, genuine shape, body mass, hip structure, muscularity, and thickness is what sets Casino into a league of his own. Although these bulls are just 3/8 SimAngus we knew that the Casino x Dolly mating would certainly be a hit. These brothers are big boned, stout made, high performing, and offer added length and volume. The sister mates to these flush brothers are absolutely sensational and will find their way back into the program. I have purchased Bulls from KCC for several years. During this time I have come to appreciate the consistent uniformity that these growthy, high performing bulls have given my operation. Excellent carcass traits and cattle that feedlots are looking for is what you will find in these SimAngus cattle. KCC bulls have added value to my operation in many ways! -Travis Goings (Pine Ridge, SD)

he next pair of flush mate brothers are sired by the popular half-blood SimAngus stud W/C Son Of A Biscuit 83E that is working for our friends at Western Cattle Source. His genuine body shape, structural integrity, cow family, and visually appealing profile is what sets him apart. The dam of these bulls is TKCC Ms Echo 40E, a member of the famed SAV Blackcap May 1567 cow family. She is a Profit sired half-blood that is a full sister to the high selling percentage Simmental bull that sold in the CK Cattle and Wager Cattle production sale in 2019. These bulls offer unmatched potential from a cow family standpoint, combining the influence of Blackcap May and 8543U. These bulls are balanced numerically, while offering tremendous appeal visually with great potential to inject the SimAngus advantage into your cowherd!

TKCC New Direction 62C is the son of Dolly that our good friends at Vogler Cattle Company purchased a few years back and have found great success with him as proven heifer safe sire. 40G is the natural calf of the up and coming Ms Echo 40E female that is from the famed Blackcap May cow line. Here is a heifer safe option that boasts a 74-pound actual birth weight and spreads to over 700 at weaning time with a WW Ratio of 105. Big time potential here in a leading heifer bull candidate that will not sacrifice pay weight or the consistency of a proven cow family.

G, 2G, and 20G are flush mate brothers that are sired by the Western Cattle Source resident herd sire, Son Of A Biscuit. The dam of these studs is the young and impressive KCC1 Estelle 510E, the Bottomline daughter of the late Victoria. There is no denying the impact that Victoria has made on the business during her tenure in Rushville, Nebraska. Estelle is a striking blaze faced female that personifies the maternal functionality that we strive for in each and every female within our cow herd. Estelle offers tremendous eye-appeal, body shape, udder quality, and structural integrity. We anticipate her to follow in the footsteps of her late dam, Victoria 57A from a generating and producing standpoint. She was selected by Forster Ranch as the high selling open heifer calf in The Event sale in the fall of 2017. Study the maternal stability that can be identified throughout the pedigree of these three bulls through the impact of Dolly, Victoria, and 8543U. Pay attention here to the consistency and genetic power!

olly is without a doubt one of the most important and influential females in the Simmental business. There is no denying the impact she has had over the course of the last 5 years and the legacy she will leave. Here is one of the most unique opportunities to acquire a daughter from this legendary donor dam. The most influential daughter of Dolly is the late, Victoria, a true producer that generated well over $250,000 within her first set of ET calves, including the $120,000 Exclusive, the largest sire group of bulls ever offered at Kearns Cattle Company. Another popular daughter of Dolly is the Dolly 49C matron that is sired by New Direction and works in the Rains Simmentals and Bird Cattle Company programs. Brothers to this dynamic set of females would include the $100,000 Cannon, the $70,000 Classified, the $40,000 Frost, the $33,000 Carver, $32,000 Certified, the $28,000 Eclipse, among countless other sons that are working in top programs across the United States. This set of daughters are sired by the $435,000 Currency stud, the $71,000 Turnpike, and the multiple time ROV National Champion, KR Casino 6243. These females are sound built, big bodied, and equipped with the fundamentals necessary to be a big-league producer. A full brother to 40E is pictured. Money Maker was the high selling percentage SimAngus bull at the 2019 CK Cattle and Wager Cattle production sale.
