The Sixth Annual CK Cattle & Wager Cattle Production Sale

On behalf of everyone involved, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Sixth Annual Production Sale. There are a lot of good programs and good people in the cattle business, so we consider it an honor that you are taking time to look at this offering. We are extremely proud of the cattle that are being offered for your appraisal.

Three years ago, I was beating the drum that the cattle business was destined for great times! I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be an exciting ride for all involved in the protein/beef business. We just don’t know how wild it’s going to get. All I can say is that it’s the American beef producer’s turn. If you look at the fundamentals: cow numbers, placements, and demand for product we raise, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. The one important ingredient that we were all lacking is moisture. As, I write this, moisture is hitting in many areas that have desperately needed it. We now have the final piece to the puzzle to make 2023 a year to remember.

It’s been so much fun to watch our genetics thrive in every arena in the business. In the fall of 2021, we entered 6 steers in a steer profitability contest, conducted by the American Simmental Association. The steers were put on a grow safe system in November and harvested in June. All the important traits are measured from intake, conversion, health, cost of gain and of course, carcass traits. Kenidey had 2nd and 5th overall individuals and the 1st and 4th overall pens. The neatest thing, is that the top overall individual, was Jayna Blume’s steer and he was sired by a bull we raised! This is a small sampling that backs up similar data from other producers that we have helped place their feeder cattle. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you can combine quality with functionality, and it will work – but it’s not easy!

Rest assured, we are always looking and using all the tools given to us to give the beef business the best product we can provide. We will have scan data, scrotal measurements, yearling weights and 105 day gain information on a supplement sheet prior to the sale. The bred heifers will be re-pregged and have their second round of scour shots the week prior to the sale. We fully guarantee the cattle and will work with you if you have any problems. The bulls will be semen tested, freeze branded, and given their pinkeye, foot rot and lepto vibriosis shot prior to delivery. We will deliver bulls in late April and May. This joint family venture has been well received among some of the country’s top commercial and seedstock outfits alike. People are certain that the positive customer service and the quality of stock go hand-in-hand, and they have the utmost confidence in the product that is being offered. The industry is in store for a rather huge upswing based on simple supply and demand. With that said, you’ll want to have your operation in position to capitalize when that time presents itself. There are certainly some bold predictions for all classes of cattle in all phases of the marketplace from feeder cattle, to fed cattle, to production females, and what lands on the plate at the dinner table. The stock in Highmore, South Dakota on the second Saturday of February will meet all criteria and set new standards for the traits that matter within your respective operation!

The bull pen in Highmore is as loaded as it has ever been! This year’s pen will feature the very first set of calves sired by the $175,000 2021 sale feature, FRKG CKCC Platinum 009H ET, along with the first draft by the joint acquisition from Oak Meadows Farm known as OMF Hard Right H21. The stock from each of these freshman sire groups will complement one another in the years to come. Phenotype with power and acceptable performance expectations will generate success and profitability for any program. At weaning time, this set of studs pounded the scales like no other set before them. They were as impressive then as they are today. We are certain that you will be amazed by the power and scale that these bulls offer across the board. Again, a diverse set that is backed by a dominant set of females that are production geared and ranch managed with significant expectations to hustle year after year! Chris is very passionate about customer service and is very confident in the product that they introduce to the marketplace each and every year. Honesty and integrity in the product and the people that represent them is why this outfit has such a high customer retention rate. For these reasons, those that have done business in the years past let their neighbors and friends know where the density can be found in the calves they are producing. It seems the customer confidence is infectious and strong in the CK and Wager product. Popularity has surged with the end results to the food supply meeting multiple premiums indicating profitable endpoints for those who invested. Chris will do everything he can, with the resources he has available, to generate interest in the acquisition of your product at weaning time. Your calf crop will be aligned with what he deems the best fit for long term relationships while achieving competitive, market topping bids on that product. He has spent a multitude of years forging strong industry relationships. Many of those have allowed the doors of opportunity to open and allow these CKCC and WAGR prefixed sired cattle their place in those rooms of the business.

As far as the female offering is concerned, it’s also geared to be one of the absolute best. Many of these are natural calves from the working girls that continue to build the program. They will carry the service of the resident calving ease sire HOLT Night Vision 457H and the arm service to the proven industry specialists in the Angus breed known as Deer Valley Growth Fund and Sitz Stellar 726D. Chris Effling is gifted with quite possibly one of the absolute best eyes in the livestock industry for quality and structural build. He has the ability to see the slightest skeletal flaws and recognize subtle differences in shape and body design. With that stands the reason that these cattle and the cowherd are built as they should be with longevity and industry end points in mind. These females will be as good as the dams that raised them, and they possess the genetics to be better for their new homes if those programs select the right genetic tools to advance the program in the right direction.

Unless otherwise noted, all the breeding age bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam prior to pick up/delivery. In addition to the standard Terms and Conditions of the American Simmental Association, we will provide the first breeding season (the 90-day period immediately following turn out) guarantee on all yearling and older bulls. This guarantee is not an insurance or mortality policy, but a guarantee on functional fertility. It is not a substitute or replacement for poor management. Buyer assumes all risks for injury due to running bulls together or management decisions outside genetic control. For the guarantee to apply, we ask that you contact us as soon as a condition is observed and before the animal is sold. We will work with you to determine whether the animal is returned or sold for slaughter. We will attempt to provide a suitable replacement. If one cannot be provided of equal or greater value, we will issue a sale credit to be used in a future sale for the full purchase price less the salvage value of the animal.
