Welcome
from hartman cattle company
Welcome to the 9th Annual Hartman Cattle Company Simmental Bull Sale. We are very proud of the bulls that make up this offering. Phenotypically they are the stoutest and most rugged set of bulls we have offered to date. The bulls go through a stringent selection process, where emphasis is put on structural integrity, muscularity, realworld performance, and fleshing ease. It has always remained our priority that they must start with good feet and legs, with the proper angle and flex to their joints. We firmly believe that there are individuals in this offering that have as much potential to be sires of true impact and influence within the business as we have ever offered before.
Here at Hartman Cattle Company, we have always placed strong selection pressure on the maternal aspect of our herd sire battery. Superior sire selection has been emphasized at Hartman Cattle Company. We believe that every great breeding bull is backed by an even better female. As you evaluate this year’s offering you will notice that several key females within the industry can be identified throughout the pedigrees. Maternal stability increases performance, fertility, and longevity, all essential traits of the modern-day beef production cycle. You will also notice several of the bulls selling are ET flushmate brothers to several of the highlighted females that sold in the 26th Annual Customer Appreciation Female Sale. By utilizing only the most proven sires, the nucleus of our cowherd herd has improved exponentially in terms of quality and consistency.
Each year we sort the very top end of our bull calf crop for this sale. These bulls, along with choice selections from our fellow breeders make up this deep offering. They are all a reflection of the discipline and diligence that make up the Hartman Cattle Company breeding program.
In 2022, bulls that had previously sold at Hartman Cattle Company were selected as the Grand Champion Simmental Bull in Denver, Oklahoma City, and Louisville! We are proud of the accomplishments that our customers have experienced with their HCC genetics. Again in 2023, we will host a frozen genetic sale that will allow customers, both new and old, to showcase the herd sires they have purchased at Hartman Cattle Company.
We look forward to being back in the Mile High City for the historic National Western Stock Show, an event that we showcase 18 bulls from our sale offering that will sell on February 5, 2023. We invite you to stop by our pen in “The Yards” to visit about the cattle. We wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year, and we look forward to seeing each of you! Please call if we can be of assistance in your genetic selection process.
Respectfully, Mike Hartman

It is again our privilege to welcome you back to Tecumseh, Nebraska for the 2023 edition of the Hartman Cattle Company Bull Sale. This set of bulls will mark the 9th Annual Simmental Bull Sale at HCC, and there is no question that the level of quality and consistency of this year’s offering is due largely in part to the genetic progress that this program has put so much selection pressure on!
What makes this set of bulls unique is the consistency and quality that is present from top to bottom. The bulls that have made the sale have been stringently sorted based on foot quality, performance, phenotypic quality, and a premium balance of fleshing ease and muscularity. This set of bulls are athletic in terms of their build, genuine in their body composition, and have been developed with longevity in mind. Large groups of ET flushmate brothers backed by young, productive females from the most illustrious cow families in the breed make up the offering. Many of the bulls selling are ET flushmates to females that were featured in the 26th Annual Customer Appreciation Female Sale. The genetic consistency that these bulls offer is unparalleled.
If you are a cattleman or cattlewomen that might not have a breed specific program, but enjoy turning out good reputable seedstock, rest assured that you can find and afford one here that fits your production goals. Progressive producers that sell their calves by the pound at weaning or retain ownership to the rail will be able to find more than one bull that will add value to their bottomline. Regardless of which sector of the business you are in, it is important to remember that paper may not always be a substitute to the value that comes with the basic knowledge of type, kind, and management essential to achieve ultimate grid values.
Length, frame, measured performance, and cutability have always been the primary advantages of Continental seedstock and when utilized on British based cows will add pay weight and profitability. It’s not science, it’s cowboy logic to utilize the cheapest tool known to the ranching business regarding heterosis.
The earning potential is proven on the top end year after year, but what you don’t know or hear about is the unadulterated success had by the big ranching operations that have bought larger groups of bulls from this program over the past decade. Success through profitability has always been the focal point and has also been the reputation builder for the family named operation for decades. Please join us for the 9th Annual Bull Sale at Hartman Cattle Company on February 5th at 2:00 PM. If you have any questions about the offering, please reach out if we can be of assistance to your herd sire selection process.

The Female Offering
Over a decade ago we began our transition into the Simmental breed by searching the country for a set of Purebred Angus cows that we could blanket breed to WAGR Driver 706T with the goal of creating a set of half-blood females that offered true maternal excellence, real world performance, and functionality. These prerequisites led us to Annawan, Illinois to one of the nation’s best kept secrets at the time – Frankenreider Cattle Company.
Shannon Frankenreider is one of the best stockmen in the nation, plain and simple. His disciplined approach to breeding cattle, coupled with his keen eye for quality is what sets his cowherd apart. If you’ve ever been by Frankenreider Cattle Company, then you’ll agree that this is one of the most consistent sets of Angus and SimAngus females in North America. One after another that have the signature look of maternal excellence that the industry has come to expect from the SJF prefix.
The origin of the famed “Countess” cow family came from the introduction of that first set of half-blood females that were bred at Frankenreider Cattle Company. The purchase of that set of WAGR Driver 706T daughters served as the foundation of the Hartman Cattle Company breeding program where those females were ‘bred up’ to Purebred status from those 50 half-blood females. Other herd sires such as WS Pilgrim H182U, MF CCF Vision, and MR HOC Broker were some of the influential sire lines that were utilized in the pursuit of creating the next generation of Purebred Simmental cattle that would call home to Hartman Cattle Company.
The opportunity to tap directly into the maternal source that played an instrumental role in the evolution of the Hartman Cattle Company Simmental cowherd has presented itself for the first time ever following the bull sale.
