A is for ANIMALS On AMERICA’s farms and ranches, AMAZING families give ANIMALS the best care. The AWARD for this special ATTENTION is healthy and happy cows! How do these families do it? We are happy to share!


Bb B is for BOND For the BEAUTIFUL cattle that call this land home - BABY calves, mama cows and BURLY BULLS too. We give them BIG hay BALES and green pastures to roam.




Cc C is for CARE We CHECK on the COWS morning, noon and night. Our CHORES include giving them feed, water and shelter. Taking CARE of the CATTLE is a true delight!



Dd D is for DAIRY DEDICATED farmers milk the cows each DAY. Cows give us DELICIOUS DAIRY like milk, cheese and ice cream! Rich in vitamin D, these foods give us energy to play!

E is for EARTH

EVERY farmer and rancher cares for the ENVIRONMENT by giving EXTRA attention to the EARTH’s land, air and water. A love of the land and livestock is agriculture’s best testament.

F is for FARM The FARM is a happy place for FAMILY and FRIENDS. From the FEEDYARDS to the corn FIELDS, FARMERS work together, and the FUN never ends!


Gg G is for GIVE GREAT care is made to GIVE each cow nutritious GRASS and GRAINS to eat. GATHERED at the feed bunk, the cows sure love their chow!



Hh H is for HARD WORK A HEALTHY cow HERD is the goal. With HELPING HANDS, we do it together. It’s HARD WORK, but that’s how we roll!



I is for IMMUNITY

Ii

Fighting ICKY germs can be a battle. Scientists and veterinarians have made great INNOVATIONS. Thanks to INCREDIBLE medicine, we have healthy cattle!


J is for JOBS

There are many JOBS in agriculture to explore. We must do each one JUST right, to JOYFULLY provide people with meat, dairy and so much more!

K is for KNOWLEDGE KNOWLEDGE and care, that’s the farmer way. We always treat cattle with KINDNESS. We celebrate this bond every single day!


L is for LOVE Farmers LOVE the LIVESTOCK and the LAND. We celebrate the circle of LIFE by welcoming LOVABLE calves each spring as planned.

M is for MANURE “MOO” is the beautiful MUSIC cows MAKE. But MANURE is the stinky part of the job. We MUST clean the barn! Grab a shovel and a rake!


Nn N is for NEWBORN NIGHTTIME walks to the barn to check for NEWBORN babies who might NEED NURTURING. A warm blanket and bottle are on the way in a sec!


O is for OBSERVE Each day, we OBSERVE for clues that a cow may be sick. She may need ONE-ON-ONE attention to help her feel better. We’ll call the veterinarian who will come to the farm really quick!

P is for PROTECT

For each milking, through the PARLOR the cows go. With PATIENCE and PROTECTION, farmers guide them gently and slow. Back to their comfortable PENS is where the cows safely flow.

Q is for QUALITY

Cows need QUALITY food, water and shelter to survive. Constantly learning and asking QUESTIONS is what farmers do to help their cows thrive!



Rr R is for RANCH


On the RANCH, we REFLECT that there is much work to be done. Cowboys and cowgirls RESPECT their animals and the pastures. They work in the RAIN, wind, sleet, snow and the very hot sun.


Ss S is for STRONG SOMETIMES a newborn baby needs SPECIAL care. STRONG muscles carry her to the barn. STRAW, SHELTER, warm milk and SWEET moments we SHARE.

T is for TRUCK


We’ll have more TENDER moments with the calf in a bit. Now let’s rev up the TRUCKS and the TRACTORS. It’s feeding TIME, and the co-pilot seat is the perfect fit!

U is for ULTRASOUND

Today the veterinarian is USING an ULTRASOUND machine. It is a USEFUL tool to check on the baby in the cow’s tummy. There’s the calf! What an “UDDERLY” awesome picture on the screen!

V is for VETERINARIAN

VETERINARIANS offer VITAMINS, VACCINES and good care. They go to school to learn how to keep our cows VERY healthy. Then they open their clinics with VITAL knowledge to share.


Ww W is for WONDERFUL In awe, WE WATCH the WONDERFUL circle of life unfold. From a baby calf’s very first WOBBLY steps, WORKING for the WELL-BEING of our cattle never gets old!

X is for eXTRAORDINARY

On eXTRA special days, we welcome families and friends from the city. To eXPLORE, play and learn about how meat and milk are raised. An eXCEPTIONAL day, kids can see plenty of cattle and maybe even a dog or barn kitty!

We hope YOU love the delicious and nutritious dairy and beef we raise. YOU are very special to farming and ranching families like ours. Making sure people can always enjoy our YUMMY food is the best praise.

ABOUT THE AG STORYTELLERS We are a team of agricultural professionals and moms who are on a mission to tell agriculture’s rich stories through accurate, engaging and vibrant children’s books that will become a favorite on the bookshelf, as well as a legacy for the producers we represent. With decades of combined experience in the areas of writing, illustrating and design, Ag Storytellers is a collaborative effort that connects consumers with producers. Meet the author, Amanda Radke. She is a seasoned agricultural journalist, blogger, children’s book author, international speaker and cattle rancher based in South Dakota. She holds a degree in agricultural communications, education and leadership from South Dakota State University. With extensive media training, consumer advocacy experience and years of reading children’s books at elementary schools and libraries, Amanda works to create a dynamic storyline that will capture the attention of young readers while accurately representing the experiences of farmers/ranchers. Meet the illustrator, Michelle Weber. She is an author, illustrator, ranch wife and artist located in Minnesota. She specializes in agricultural and livestock art. Michelle has built her portfolio on a national and international level, selling her work in 36-plus states, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. With a degree in advertising, marketing and sociology from South Dakota State University, Michelle not only brings unique design and perspective to every illustration on canvas but she also understands how the visual impact will influence and inspire readers. Meet the designer, Tracy McMurphy. She is a graphic designer and online marketing specialist, and a beef cattle producer from Texas. Tracy holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications from Oklahoma State Univeristy and a master’s degree in mass communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. In each project, Tracy pulls the elements of the book together to create a gorgeous published product that will be a legacy on the bookshelf for years to come.
