Sponsored by the Illinois Red Angus Association

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Harvest of The Reds sale. Kaye and I are very happy to once again be a part of this great event. As we have travelled the country this sale season, it has been very obvious that the demand for Red Angus cattle is at an all time high and rightfully so. Red Angus is the only breed to continue to experience growth in a time when all other breeds have experienced declining numbers. The reason for this is quite simple; the cattle are just that good. With cattle numbers at all time lows and cattle prices at record highs, the importance of raising quality cattle is even greater. I firmly believe that as we restock the national herd inventory, we will see a much larger percentage of red hided cattle. Now is the time to aggressively make your selections and be ready when the expansion happens. I think that within the pages of this catalog you will find cattle and genetics that will work in a wide variety of programs. Something worth noting this year is the Illinois Red Angus Association is stepping up to support their juniors. Juniors take note of the page further back in the catalog. The IRAA has stepped up to offer an incentive to juniors that purchase heifers in either of the state sales, Harvest of the Reds or Power of the Reds. If any of those animals go on to get a Grand or Reserve title in the Illinois State Fair or the James Flach Memorial Show, they will get an added bonus. There is an incentive for class winners as well. Be sure to check it out! I encourage you to study the genetics being offered in this sale and please do not hesitate to call either the consignors directly or myself if you have specific questions on any of the lots being offered. If you are unable to attend the sale in person please feel free to call me or any of the staff to arrange an absentee purchase. As always all phone/absentee bids will be held in the strictest of confidence and we value your trust in our services. Sincerely,

Stuart & Kaye Gilbert

This is a heifer that we have watched all summer and she has been in the “show” pen since we weaned her. She is sired by our Cash 29Z bull who was the high selling yearling Red Angus bull in Blairs 2013 bull sale. We like the volume and rib shape of this heifer alot and she will make a tremendous cow as she matures. As many of you know, we don’t sell many females and this may very well be the only one we will offer this year.

She is out of a Win-Chester sired first calf heifer that traces to the Leachman Olive family. Both her dam and granddam were show cattle for us but more importantly the Olives make very productive females. This dark red bred heifer traces back to Leachman Eleanor and has both Beckton Lancer and Beckton Julian in her pedigree. We really like the Messmer Jericho’s for their calving ease, vigor at birth, fast growth, muscle expression and fleshing ability. Her Lancer dam is one of our smaller cows but she weans off a lot of pounds and breeds back quickly after calving. This heifer has always stood out in her contemporary group.
