Celebrating 20 years of the

Power of the Reds March 28, 2015 1:00 pm Lowderman Sale Facility

Macomb, Illinois

Sponsored by the Illinois Red Angus Association

Welcome to the 20th Annual Power of the Reds sale! It has been a great time to be in the cattle business in general for the last few years with all classes of cattle seeing some all-time record high prices. Red Angus cattle have made their way to the forefront of the cattle business not by being the next big fad or hype breed but by doing a lot of things right for a long time. In a time where all other breeds have been declining, Red Angus has been on a steady growth curve, going from a breed that had a few dedicated breeders to being the 5th largest breed in the industry. The Red Angus cattle are good, functional cattle that are closely associated with the needs of the commercial cattle business’s needs. As we travel around the country it still amazes me at the number of new faces that we continually see coming to the Red Angus breed. Some are coming to us from other breeds and some are new breeders that have decided to start their first herd with Red Angus cattle. One thing I do see is that the Red Angus breed is no longer the best kept secret in the cattle business. Many of the breeders consigning cattle to this sale are long time breeders of Red Angus cattle and it is to their credit that not only the breed but this sale has become successful. As you study this catalog I believe that you will find genetics that could headline any sale in the country. We encourage you find the genetics that will work in your program and if you have any questions please feel free to contact the consignors directly or myself. We will be happy to assist you in any way that we can when making your selections. We look forward to seeing you in Macomb, Illinois but if you cannot make it to the sale in person feel free to call us. We will assist you in making any absentee purchases you may need to make. And as always, any bids will be handled in the strictest of confidence as you have come to expect from us.

This is a proven donor cow that originated in the well known DAMAR program in WI. She has already produced embryos that have sold in the “Reds on the Rocks” sale in Denver, not a bad track record for a 5 year old cow. Her sire was one of Travis Piepers favorite bulls and has proven to be an exceptional producer of females in his own right. She is bred to a Mission Statement son and don’t be surprised if she has a calf on her side by sale time or shortly there after.

Sweet Berry has a unique pedigree that leaves the door wide open for just about any of the popular bulls being used in the breed today. Her sire comes from the White Oak Farms breeding program and her dam was bred and born in the VanWye program that certainly needs no introduction in this country. She posts a nice, balanced EPD profile as well.

B77 is a paternal sister to all of the Finch heifer calves. Obviously the power Eye bull is leaving his mark in the Finch herd and this is a chance for you to share in those genetics. B77’s dam is very different in pedigree from many that you see in use today, making her a unique breeding piece that is an outcross for most programs.

Miss B83 marks the return of Finch Red Angus to the Power of the Reds sale. She is sired by the Power Eye son that Mark bought from Wild Cat Creek as a walking herd bull. Her dam traces back to the great Sensation bull as well as Cub 722 and Hi Ho 574. Nicely designed pedigree that has a lot of options when breeding season rolls around.

You don’t need to go to Canada to buy a Red Get Along Wander female, you just need to buy this one in Macomb, Il. We did not buy this heifer with the intent to sell her as a 2 yr. old pair but we need to put the good ones in the sale. She was purchased in the 2013 Brylor Mulberry Mayhem/ Under the Influence sale. The Wander heifers created quite a stir. Firedance 338A is deep red, deep ribbed, really correct and carries a wide udder with optimum teat size. She is doing an outstanding job with her flashy heifer calf. In 2013, when we were looking at buying a Windsong daughter, Stu told us to look at U028, and we are sure glad we got her. In her short time here, she has sold over $10,000 in genetics for us. This cow just flat out makes money! The flush we sold last year produced 28 embryos. Great cow, solid EPDs and a proven record. It really is hard to go wrong here. Buyer will also have a chance to use semen from the $76,000 half interest Red Blairs Pure Power if he or she wishes to purchase it and if semen is available at the time of flushing. Huge genetic and money making opportunity here, so don’t miss out!!!

4005 is a son of the $100,000+ Redemption Y1334, a bull that is likely one of the most sought after P707 sons. His dam has the distinction of being sired by Ole’s Oscar, whose semen is extremely rare. Exceptional calving ease stacked from both sides of the pedigree. If you have heifers to breed make sure to take notice of this young herd sire and be ready on sale day.

Sakic’s Pursuit is big-footed, good walking, heavy muscled, and long bodied with an excellent disposition. His sire, Lonestone Pursuit is the first Red Angus sire to produce both the champion pen of bulls and champion pen of heifers at the 2013 National Western Stock Show.
