Sale manager

Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen,

Welcome to the Twelfth Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our fifth consecutive year “On the Hill” in Denver. This unique event is the result of the collective efforts of forward-thinking Angus seedstock producers. Members of the Denim and Diamonds Group have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of the live offering. Phenotypically, the 2014 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present throughout. As the name suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. The 2014 Denim and Diamonds Sale combines the influence of the breed’s most valuable and proven performance families with the deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancies feature cutting-edge genetics that are sibs to some of the most popular champions and herd sires in the industry.

• Selling a heifer calf pregnancy due 3.22.14. This mating produced an exceptional flush of heifers that was well received in the 2013 Partners for Performance Female Sale, selling for $34,000 to Garrett Coffland, Blairstown, IA; $20,000 to Dylan Denny, Lubbock, TX; and $16,000 to Gohr Angus, Madras, OR. The sire, Dameron First Class, sired the Grand Champion Female at the first three national shows of 2013 with three different daughters! This year’s show heifer offering at Express Ranches’ Big Event was topped by a First Class daughter at $150,000. Flush sisters to this heifer pregnancy brought $25,000 and $27,000 in that same sale. The dam of this mating is one of the great donor cows ever to walk the pastures at Silveira’s. She has produced nearly 30 show heifers that have gone through their fall female and spring internet sales that have averaged over $19,000 per head. She is also the dam of the great Silveiras Conversion 8064. If you are not using him in your A.I. program, he is certainly one to look at. This cow is a solid producer, not to mention the other herd sires, embryos, pregnancies and flushes she has produced that make her one of the all-time money earning donors at Silveira Brothers. A maternal sibling to this heifer pregnancy, Silveiras Saras Dream 2335, was a $36,000 half interest heifer in the 2012 Partners for Performance Sale and was named Champion Female at the 2013 American Royal ROV Show, Champion Female at the 2013 Western Idaho ROV Show and Reserve Supreme Female at the 2013 California State Fair. She additionally won Reserve Division Champion at the 2013 ROV Show in Denver for the Colburn family. Other maternal siblings include Silveiras Saras Dream 1349, Supreme Champion Female at the 2013 Cattleman’s Jackpot for Parkerlynne Barnes, and Silveiras Saras Dream 1339, Supreme Champion at the 2012 Western Bonanza and Division Champion at the 2012 National Junior Angus Show for the Colburn family. Additionally, in this year’s Partners for Performance Female Sale, half interest in two more maternal sisters sold to Shane Myers, Colusa, CA, and Carson Lott, Sapulpa, OK, for $23,000. This mating of the triple-crown winning First Class with S609 is proven and offers limitless earning potential.

• Selling a heifer calf pregnancy due 4.24.14.

The sire of this mating, EXAR Classen 1422B, was the 2012 Denver Champion Pen lead off bull and Express Ranches’ spring bull sale topper. He has captured the attention of many as a sire of calves that possess that “wow” and “pizazz” factor that drives show heifer calf sales. A son of a Denver Champion and out of a daughter of a Denver Champion who is a sister to a Denver Reserve Champion, this leading son of the now-deceased Triple Crown winner Dameron First Class is quickly becoming the choice of many breeders to lead the way in “class” genetics. A maternal sister to this mating, Silveiras Elba 2518, was a modest $8,500 purchase by Raylyn Thompson, Adair, OK, in the 2013 Silveira Brothers fall show heifer internet sale and went on to win Division 2 Calf Champion Owned Female at the 2013 National Junior Angus Show in her first time shown. The dam of this mating was a feature donor in the 2012 Bases Loaded Sale. Her dam, Silveiras Elba 2520, was the 2009–2010 ROV Embryo Dam of the Year and records a WR of 6@108 and a YR of 4@103 while showing ultrasound ratios of IMF 28@100 and REA 28@102. Full siblings to Elba 6551 include Style 9303, the $202,000valued highlight of the 2010 Bases Loaded Sale who went on the reign as the Grand Champion Bred-and-Owned Bull of the 2010 National Junior Show; Trubador 8551, the 2010 ROV Show Bull of the Year; Elba 6540, the $54,000valued and top-selling female of the 2010 Silveira Brothers Sale, selling half interest to Skylynne Farms; El Capitan, a many-time champion; Elba 8546, the 2010 National Junior Show Reserve Grand Champion Bred-and-Owned Heifer who was also Grand Champion Female of the 2010 Western Idaho ROV Show; and Stride 9324, Reserve Grand Champion Bull of the 2010 Western Idaho ROV Show for Silveira and Shandar Angus. Empress 3104 is a stout, thick made female whose width advantages start at her base and maintain to the top side of her skeleton. This bold sprung, good bodied show and donor prospect offers the look of low input with the added power needed in today’s industry. She complements her phenotype with attractive numerical balance. The dam of 3104 was on the side of her grandam when Pollard Farms selected the pair from the 2009 Oklahoma State University Cowboy Classic Sale. In the 1990s, the famous fourth dam of 3104, DF Empress 6079, gained national recognition as a result of producing several sons which would become grand champions in the show ring. This cow was the Angus ROV Embryo Transplant Dam of the Year in 1994. Her sons include OSU Precision, Grand Champion Bull at the All-American Futurity and Reserve Champion at the North American in 1993; OSU Ultra, Reserve Champion Angus Bull at Denver in 1994 before being named Grand Champion at the National Western in 1995; and OSU Panama, Grand Champion Bull at the 1996 All-American Angus Futurity and Tulsa State Fair and the 1997 Western National Futurity in Reno, NV. Empress 6079 was the first female to ever produce all of the “Best Six Head” at the North American in 1993 and all three bulls in the Champion “Pen of Three” at the 1994 National Western Angus Show. In 1997, OSU exhibited the Champion Pen of Three Angus bulls at the National Western; the group included one direct son of 6079 and one grandson. The lead bull in the 2009 Reserve Champion Pen of Three Bulls at the National Western, OSU Currency 8173, also descends from this famous matron. To this day, some of the most productive, highest income-producing females in the OSU purebred herd are daughters and granddaughters of OSU Empress 6079. 14

Looking to add power and width while sustaining the style worthy of front-pasture status? Blackbird 3628 blends visual excellence with the look of easy maintenance. Her impressive profile and extra stoutness lend to many breeding options while laying the foundation for profitgenerating potential. Her $20,000 dam was a many-time champion for the Holder family. The former $30,000-valued maternal grandam of this daughter of First Rate, Blackbird 1262, was a featured donor for Limestone and Black Gold before she sold in the 2008 Limestone Sale for $16,000, while two maternal sibs to the dam of Lot 18 sold for $20,000 and $9,000 in that same sale. This prolific donor blends Precision with the former Dalton donor Blackbird 833E, who records BR 3@97, WR 3@110 and YR 1@107 while posting an ultrasound REA ratio of 9@104. Fifteen daughters of Blackbird 833E maintain a combined WR of 43@103. Full sisters to the grandam of Lot 18 include Blackbird 3, the $13,000 selection of Dubas Cattle Company through the 2008 Dalton Sale; Blackbird 1258, sold to Lindell Angus through a past Daltons on the Sycamore Sale; and Blackbird 228, a foundation female in the Sundberg Farms program. Through the 2007 Limestone Sale, two heifer pregnancies from 1262 were selected by Turner Farms for $10,500 each, while a daughter sold to NER Farms. In the 2007 Oklahoma Angus Gathering, a full sib heifer pregnancy to the dam of Lot 18 sold for $7,000. Other maternal sisters to the dam of Lot 18 include Blackbird 5206, the selection of Herdland Angus through the 2006 Dalton Sale; and Blackbird 4282, the selection of Seagraves Angus through the 2005 Dalton Sale.

The Princess family has been a mainstay at the National Western Stock Show and in the Denim and Diamonds Sale, and the year 2014 is no exception. The dam of these matings, Princess 76P, has been one of the most consistent donors in the Malson herd. A maternal sister to these embryos sold for $5,800 to Trent Ray in the 2011 Denim and Diamonds Sale. The famous full sister to 76P, Greens Princess 1012, sold in the 2004 Bases Loaded Sale for $200,000 to Howard Genetics and the Princess Syndicate for half interest and was later named the ROV Embryo Transplant Dam of the Year for that same season. 1012 was the 2003 National Western Stock Show Champion Angus Female, the 2003 Western National Angus Futurity Champion Cow/Calf and the 2003 NAILE Reserve Champion Cow/Calf with the $52,000 RF Princess 3112 at her side. The grandam of these matings, the foundation Princess 7418, reigned as the Grand Champion Female of the 1999 National Western, 1999 Western National, 1998 American Royal ROV, 1998 Western Idaho ROV and junior shows and the 1998 Northwest Regional Junior Preview before becoming the star donor in the Green Angus Ranch herd. • Selling a package of four frozen embryos. SydGen Fate 2800, the sire of this mating, was the highlight of the November 2013 SydGen Production Sale when he became the top-selling bull in SydGen history with 2/3 interest and full possession bringing $113,000. Cattlemen from across the country keyed in on this extremely well-made, docile son of Trust, and he has lived up to the expectations. Fate is the kind of bull that can make a lasting contribution to the breed and brings EPD and genomic profiles that will help add value to his progeny for virtually every measurable trait. Fate ranks above the top 10% of all non-parents for 14 of the 17 EPDs and bio-economic indexes and is above the top 25% for all of them. The dam of this mating, Sydgen Forever Lady 7106, was the $14,000 second top-selling fall pair of the 2013 Sydenstricker Genetics Sale, where SydGen Forever Lady 2069, her daughter and a maternal sister to these embryos, was the $17,000 top selling bred heifer. Other siblings to these embryos include the $20,000 SydGen Trustworthy 2012, who was the top-selling bull calf in the 2012 Sydenstricker Sale to Currant Creek Angus, Roundup, MT; Jocko Valley Angus, Arlee, MT; Gary Wall, Billings, MT; Gain & Weigh Stock Farm, Stanley, IA; and Jay E. Coble, Rhodes, IA; and SydGen Copyright 9080, who was one of the most popular Turbo sons in the 2009 SydGen Sale at $10,500 to Ken Haas Angus, LaGrange, WY. Other sons of 7106 are in service for Big Dry Angus Ranch, Jordan, MT; Larry Robinson, Wellsville, MO; and William C. Snow, Hamilton, MO. Only 36 other proven Angus dams can match 7106’s combination of CED, WW, REA and $W, and she ranks in the top 130 cows of the breed on the $W index alone. Her grandam, Forever Lady 4123, is a long-time favorite cow, and her dam is one of the original females from GDAR and the great-great-grandam of SydGen C C & 7.

O C C DIXIE ERICA 744P Dam of Lot 27 embryos

This mating combines two of the most prolific families in the Ohlde program, Dixie Erica and Blackbird, on both sides of the pedigree, line bred to such breed greats as F0203, 6807, EXT and Dixie Erica of C H 1019. The sire, OCC Paxton 730P, is known for transmitting muscle and rib to his progeny while maintaining the udder quality, maternal strength and grass efficiency that the Ohlde genetics are famous for. The donor dam of this mating is a maternal sister to the extremely popular and proven A.I. sire OCC Juneau in this female who is double-bred to the great Dixie Erica family. 744P is now a donor for Coleman Angus in Charlo, MT, after they selected her as the top selling female of the 2012 Tennessee River Music Sale. 744P ranks in the top 1% of the breed for RE and transmits that muscle to her progeny. She currently holds a progeny production record of WR 1@104. Her dam excels with progeny ratios of WR 7@105, YR 6@105 and UREA 44@111. In addition, there are a total of 12 daughters produced from her dam with an average nursing ratio of 101 on 30 progeny.
