Sale Manager

Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen,

Welcome to the 13th Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our sixth consecutive year “On the Hill” in Denver. This unique event is the result of the collective efforts of forward-thinking Angus seedstock producers.

Members of the Denim and Diamonds Group have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of the live offering.

Phenotypically, the 2015 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present throughout. As the name suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. This 2015 sale combines the influence of the breed’s most valuable and proven performance families with the deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancies feature cutting-edge genetics that include progeny of some of the most popular champions and herd sires in the industry. These herd sire candidates, open show and donor prospects and proven donors are second to none. The focus of this sale remains on quality, and you will find that, like a diamond, each lot is distinctive in its own way. I encourage each of you to evaluate your own situation and your breeding goals, and on Thursday, January 15th, please join us at 2:00 p.m. following the Junior Angus Show in Expo Hall 1 to view the cattle and enjoy food and refreshments, and then at 5:00 p.m. in the National Western Beef Palace Auction Arena to take advantage of the knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Whether you are seeking your next herd sire, donor dam or your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering.

If I can be of assistance in any way, please let me know. Sincerely,

Matt Sims 1

• Sells open. Lot 4 is a daughter of the $100,000-valued and now-deceased donor that was the product of two former Denver Champions— Dameron First Class and Greens Princess 1012, and sired by the $202,000-valued Silveiras Style 9303. Full sister pregnancies sold in the 2013 Pollard Sale for $19,000 each to Silveira Bros. and Flying G and to Silveira Bros and Diamond B. The dam of Lot 4 was the $50,000 half interest selection of Pollard Farms from the 2013 Denim and Diamonds Sale. Many who saw her prior to her death believe that Princess 5401 may have been the closest in kind to her famous dam. Rarely will you find a female with this kind of muscle mass, rib and bone that maintains the level of femininity that Princess 5401 possessed, and this daughter follows suit. 5401’s dam, Greens Princess 1012, sold in the 2004 Bases Loaded Sale in Denver for $200,000 for half interest and was named ROV Dam of the Year (Embryo Transplant) for that same season. 1012 was the 2003 National Western Stock Show Grand Champion Angus Female, the 2003 Western National Angus Futurity Champion Cow/Calf and the 2003 NAILE Reserve Champion Cow/Calf. With several progeny among the top sellers in Express Ranches sales, Princess 1012 has rapidly become one of the top income-generating females for the nation’s largest seedstock producer, and we feel that Princess 3645 holds that same potential.

• Selling 1/4 semen interest. Joe Canada was the incredibly popular and top selling bull of the 2012 Denim and Diamonds Sale, selected by Krebs Ranch. Breeder Kimerick DeLashmutt considered Joe Canada to be “the stoutest, coolest, most uniquely made bull calf ever raised at K Bar D.” Joe Canada is a sire with performance and muscle. He is a power bull that is full of beef and muscle through his loin and in his hip. He weaned at an adjusted weight of 964 lbs. for a 119 ratio and recorded an adjusted yearling weight of 1550 lbs. for a 118 ratio...plus he scanned with an adjusted 18.2 square inch ribeye. In addition, Joe Canada has an attention-getting look with ideal phenotype and quality of design. He moves out with a high level of structural correctness and soundness that is seldom found in a bull built this powerfully. Excellent numerical balance, outcross genetics, proven pedigree and killer phenotype come together in this outstanding sire. Joe Canada’s progeny are now hitting the scene and are receiving rave reviews. His semen sales for the first half of 2014 exceeded $15,000 to project sales totaling close to $30,000 for the year; the popularity of his progeny continues to drive semen sales. Dam sells as Lot 9. Owned with K Bar D and Krebs Ranch.

• Selling full interest and full possession. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to purchase a son of the elite Angus donor J&J Queen 414, proclaimed by many as Northern Improvement’s greatest daughter. Queen 414 is proven to generate unparalleled “look,” quality, structural soundness and power, and this herd sire prospect is no exception. A full sister to Lot 13, PF First Class Dolly A351, has been a many-time champion for Chance Myers of Edmond, Okla., including Reserve Intermediate–Division 1 at the 2014 NJAS; Champion Angus, 2014 Oklahoma State Fair Junior Show, and Champion Angus, 2014 Tulsa State Fair Junior Show. A maternal sister, Shultz Lookout 414 35A, has been a many-time champion for Brooke Adams of Terrell, Texas. As a result of a flush purchased by Walter Cattle Company and Steve Gilbert in the May 2007 J&J Cattle Co. Sale, 414 is the dam of the 2010 Reserve National Champion Percentage Simmental Heifer, WLTR Lydia, and the 2010 National Western Stock Show Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Simmental Bull, WLTR Renegade, who was also named Grand Champion Percentage Simmental Bull at the 2010 American Royal. Until their dispersion in May 2010, 414 served as the cornerstone donor for J&J Cattle Company. The Queen Family accounted for more than $68,000 of the sale gross in the May 2010 J&J Dispersion and included J&J Queen 9064, sold for $11,250, and J&J Queen 9044, sold for $11,500 to Fred Schultz of Perkins, Okla., along with J&J Queen 613, sold for $10,400 to KB Cattle Company of Wills Point, Tx. During her tenure as a lead donor for J&J and Price Farms, Queen 414 sold over 30 embryos to average over $840 each and allowed Price Farms to recover over $21,000 of their initial investment within the first six months of owning her; she now has their investment way in the black from embryo sales alone.

VAR FOREVER LADY 4304 Maternal great-granddam of Lots 15 & 16

16

Two full sisters in blood sell as Lots 15 and 16. It is rare that you find show and donor prospects that offer the unique combination of flawless phenotype, proven pedigree and numerical profiles that rank among the breed’s elite, but that is exactly what these two full sisters in blood accomplish. A maternal brother to the dams of Lots 15 and 16, WCC Luke U54, was the 2010 Atlantic National Grand Champion Bull for Ryan Long of Blue Mound, Ill. Their granddam, Forever Lady M23, combines a progeny weaning ratio of 105 on two natural calves with a progeny ribeye ratio of 104 on 40 head and 17 daughters in production who post a collective progeny weaning ratio of 102. She sold to Snake Creek Ranch as a feature of the 2007 Wilson Cattle Co. Sale. A maternal sister to their dams, WCC Forever Lady S14, was the $30,000 top-selling female of the 2006 Wilson Sale, where another maternal sister, DF Forever Lady S452, was a $13,500 feature. Other maternal siblings to their dams include the embryo mating that produced the 2009 All-American Grand Champion Female, DF Forever Lady 7591, the 2008 Indiana State Fair Senior Heifer Calf Champion, WCC Forever Lady T242; and WCC Masterworks T263, Senior Bull Calf Champion at the 2008 North American International, 2009 National Western and 2009 Fort Worth Stock Show. The third dam of these two Ten X daughters is the $75,000 twice National Western Reserve Grand Champion VAR Forever Lady 4304, a former ROV Embryo Dam of the Year who generated more than $1 million in progeny sales.

• Sells open. The sire of Lot 17, Cameron 223, was selected by 44 Farms as the $15,000 top-selling bull of the 2013 Riverbend Ranch Bull Sale to add the influence of the proven growth and CW sire Upward 307R to their herd sire battery. • Sells open. 4012 is one of the sleekest built show and donor prospects in the offering. She is a knockout when you see her on the profile. This female is deep sided with a nice, straight top line and a sweet head and neck. She will only get better with age. Lot 18 combines her outstanding phenotype with attractive numerical balance for all measurable traits. Note that her impressive EPD profile is genomically enhanced. DPL Foxy Erica 4012 comes from the superb Foxy Erica cow family at Dal Porto Livestock. Her maternal granddam produced the Champion Cow/Calf Pair at the Western National Angus Futurity, who in turn produced the Champion Bred-and-Owned Heifer at the 2014 Oregon State Fair. A maternal sister to the dam of 4012 was Champion Cow/Calf at the California State Show.

• Sells open. The sire of Lot 19, Sure Deal, was the $39,000 top seller in the 2012 Bush Angus Bull Sale and the lead off bull for their Reserve Champion Denver Pen. Sure Deal is excellent fronted, super deep sided, really wide backed and square hipped. With his first calf crop, Sure Deal sired the top selling female in the 2013 Malson Angus Sale at a $32,000 valuation. Sure Deal is a heifer bull with a huge EPD spread that sires tremendously cool fronted, deep bodied, feminine females—and it is obvious that he transmitted those traits to 102B. The dam of Lot 19 has been a top producer in the Malson herd that adds power, muscle and growth genetics to the equation. BUSHS SURE DEAL 33 Sire of Lot 19

• Selling a flush to the bull of the buyer’s choice. Laflins Primrose 8153 won Grand Champion Cow/Calf honors at the 2012 National Western Stock Show and is a foundation female for North Camp Angus. This moderate framed, powerfully constructed donor possesses flawless udder structure and produces a standout calf every year. Her progeny include Laflins Alternative Power 2100, the fourth high selling bull at the 2013 Midland Bull Test Sale to New Haven Angus Ranch, Leavenworth, Kan., at $17,500, and Laflins Storm 1102, who was the calf at side when she was named Grand Champion Cow/Calf Pair at the 2012 National Western Stock Show. Storm was purchased by Silveira Brothers, Firebaugh, Calif., for $10,000 after being named Late Junior Bull Calf Champion at the 2012 Western National Angus Futurity in Reno. If you strive to produce front-pasture females that possess that added show ring look as well as rugged herd sires, this is an unmistakable opportunity. Look for an elite show heifer and donor cow prospect out of 8153 to be shown and displayed by North Camp at the 2015 NWSS. 8153’s flush record is outstanding. DAMERON FIRST CLASS The sire of the heifer pregnancies selling as Lots 27–30, the now-deceased triple-crown winning Dameron First Class, has set the standard as the Angus breed’s leading cultivator of show ring champions. With his semen in high demand and short supply and selling for record amounts well in excess of $5,000 per straw, it is easy to see the earning potential these heifer pregnancies offer. First Class blends First Rate with the recent No. 1 ROV ET Dam of the Year Northern Miss 3114. Maternal sibs to this outstanding show bull include Dameron First Impression and Northern Miss 0109, the $68,000-valued female selected by Kyle Anderson who went on to reign as Grand Champion Female of the 2011 National Junior Show and the Illinois State Fair as well as being Reserve Grand Champion Female of the 2011 WNAF.

The dam of this mating was the $15,500 selection of Chapman Ranch from the 2011 Shaff Angus Valley Sale, where she was the $39,000 top-selling heifer and the No. 1 205-day weight heifer of the entire 2010 calf crop at 839 lbs., selected by Bob Ballew. 0490 offers as much in terms of fertility, longevity, stayability and maternal value as you can find. Maternal brothers to Emblynette 0490 include the two heaviest weaning bulls of the 2010 calf crop at Shaff’s, the $37,500 S A V Bullet 0473, selected by Johnson Livestock, Peebles, Sask., and Peak Dot Ranch, Wood Mountain, Sask., and the $27,000 S A V Bullion 0474, selected by Enright Farms, Renfrew, Ont. The phenomenal Net Worth granddam of these matings was produced from four consecutive generations of Emblynette Pathfinders. As of February 2011, the Pathfinder third dam of these matings had generated $298,150 in receipts on 51 direct progeny selling in SAV sales for an average of $5,615 to cowmen in 17 states, Canada and Argentina.

J&J QUEEN 613 $20,000 full sister to dam of Lot 30 pregnancy

The dam of this mating is a direct daughter of J&J Queenie 9206, who was the foundation of the J&J Cattle Co. herd in Oklahoma. The Queen family accounted for more than $68,000 of the sale gross in the May 2010 J&J Dispersion and included the $22,750 J&J Queen 414; J&J Queen 9064, who sold for $11,250; and J&J Queen 9044, who sold for $11,500 to Fred Schultz of Perkins, Okla., to name a few. This powerful female offers a unique blend of substance and femininity that transmits to her progeny no matter how she is mated. She offers balance and eye appeal without sacrificing power. Her added dimension and broodiness suggest long-term value and true return on investment. Whether producing prospects for the show ring, enhancing your herd’s visual quality or adding to your donor pen, here’s a mating not to be missed. A full sister to the dam of the Lot 30 mating, J&J Queen 613, was first selected by KB Cattle Co. from the 2010 J&J Dispersion, where she and her three progeny sold for $29,900 to average an impressive $7,475. After joining the KB herd, 613 had quite an impact. In their fall 2012 sale, the high-selling Angus heifer was a daughter of 613 who went on to be a many-time champion for Cale Hinrichsen in Kansas, while another sister that sold to California was a many-time breed or division champion on the West coast. In the fall 2013 Texas Limited Edition Sale, two daughters of 613 sold for $9,000 and $8,900 to Brandon Hillery and Wyatt Hagle and most recently, a daughter of 613 sold to Landry Bozeman in the Spring 2014 Texas Limited Edition Sale. Queen 613 was the $20,000 top-selling lot in the KB Dispersion to Double Bar L in Texas.

SITZ EVERELDA ENTENSE 1137 $210,000 fourth dam of the Lot 31A—B embryos

The donor dam of these embryos is a deep bodied, thick rumped Bandolier daughter with a super disposition who is triple bred to the legendary maternal sire Traveler 124 GDAR. The great-granddam, Ever Entense 495G, is the $150,000 one-time record-selling bred heifer at KMK Acres in Tennessee. She is also a full sister to the $320,000 one-time world record-selling female Shadybrook Ever Entense 491G and the $300,000 Sitz Everelda Entense 023. The foundation fourth dam, Sitz Everelda Entense 1137, was also a record-selling cow in 2001 when she sold for $210,000 at 14 years of age. 1137 produced many donors and sires that have cornerstoned Angus herds across the country, generating more than $4 million in progeny sales and living to be 17 years of age. The sire of these embryos, R B Tour of Duty 177, is the breed’s No. 1 growth sire, featured in the OriGen/ABS lineup. With unreal length, depth and strength of top, he is in a league of his own for phenotype and performance. Tour of Duty was the $55,000 record selling bull at the 2012 Minnesota Bull Test Sale and was a sensation while on display at the 2013 and 2014 National Western Stock Shows. His maternal sister, RB Lady Standard 305-890, is the $175,000 record-selling cow at the 2014 National Foundation Female Sale and recently sold a $275,000 son.

The dam of these matings, Rita 9066 of Rita 5M13 Obj, is an impressive daughter of the $37,000 donor Rita 5M13 of 2V9 Predestined, selected by KW Cattle Company in the 2012 Wehrmann Angus Dispersal. KW Cattle Company also acquired her full sibling in the Wehrmann Dispersal, Rita 7041 of Rita 5M13 Obj, for $30,000. Rito 2I40 of 5M13 Rito 9I9, a maternal sibling, was the $68,000 top-selling bull in the 2013 Wehrmann Genetics & Guests Bull Sale, selected by Woodside Farms. The sire of the Lot 34A embryos, EXAR Resistol 3710B, was the anchor bull of the 2014 Express Ranches NWSS Carload. He offers calving ease, performance and an awesome beef bull look with added body and middle. He is a flush brother to EXAR Stetson and to the $135,000 1/2 interest Deer Valley sale-topping heifer. Resistol recorded superior individual performance, posting a 1529 lb. adjusted yearling weight and a 17.5 sq. inch ribeye area. His outstanding genomic data has identified him as potentially the best Henrietta Pride 643T son for calving ease, earning him +10 CED and +1.7 BW EPDs. VAR Discovery 2240, sire of the Lot 34B embryos, was the lead off and high selling bull of the 2013 Vintage Angus Ranch Bull Sale. He was one of the most widely sampled young sires in the industry in 2014 and is one of the highest $B bulls of the entire 2012 calf crop. His Zoetis 50K profile ranks him in the top 10% for CED, BW, WW, YW, Doc, CEM, Milk and CW. Discovery’s dam is from the same cow family that produced the 2012 top-selling bull at Vintage as well as the current No. 1 bull in the breed for Marbling.
