Fellow Angus Enthusiasts,
Combining over 180 years experience breeding quality Angus seedstock!
Welcome to our 33rd Genetic Opportunity Sale. It is our pleasure to offer you some of the most exciting females that we have ever offered. We have been truly blessed with adequate rainfall this summer and fortunately still have green grass in August. The cattle have responded well to the good summer, and we think as you page through this year’s offering you will agree that we have some exceptional females to offer, both phenotypically and genotypically. All three of the participants in the Genetic Opportunity group have concentrated on bringing you the freshest genetics in the Angus breed that will go home and make a profit for you. As of this writing, the cattle and grain markets are not at the high levels of a couple years ago; however, the cattle market looks like calves will be in a price range that will still be the third or fourth highest prices in history, and the crops appear to have the potential at this stage to produce record yields. All three of the breeders in this sale have a passion for the Angus breed. We all pretty much eat, sleep and breathe Angus cattle, and this offering represents the fruits of our life’s work. Added together, we have 180 years-plus experience of raising Angus cattle. There is a reason for the longevity of the herds represented here, and in short it is because our programs have stood the test of time and have worked well for our customers. There will be something for everyone in this offering in terms of price range. There are numerous stories of cattle that have been purchased from our sales for a modest cost that have gone on to double or triple the investment for their new owners. As usual we will offer the 2017 heifer calves right from the top of our respective calf crops. They are designed to make the kind of cows that will raise high performing calves and will have pedigrees and EPDs that will be in the top end of the Angus breed. The bred cows will be proven producers that will for the most part be AI bred to the most popular bulls of the breed. Finally, the bred heifer division will feature our newer genetics that will have the potential to be prolific producers for you. As you can guess, we’re very proud of the 2017 offering and would love to discuss any of the cattle with you prior to the sale. Most importantly, we hope you can be with us sale day. We’ll have a get together with Angus burgers Friday evening before the sale and a tasty lunch sale day before our no-nonsense, no-frills sale on Saturday, September 9th. We hope to see you sale day and welcome your inquiries prior to the sale. Best regards, The Genetic Opportunity Breeders Dale Grubbs, Les Craft and Andrew Stewart for Stewart Select Angus

Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen: Welcome to the 33rd Annual Genetic Opportunity Sale—one of the longest running Angus production sales anywhere in the United States. The longevity of this sale is a testament not only to the quality of the cattle but more to the quality of the people involved with these breeding programs. It is my honor to continue to be involved in their marketing. We are excited to bring you this outstanding offering in 2017. Grubbs Angus Farm and Les Craft Angus along with their sale guest, Stewart Select Angus, have again assembled a set that illustrates the result of their combined experience in the purebred seedstock industry, spanning over seventy years and three generations—and their passion for the Angus female. These breeders consistently bring forth their very best. While the offering continues to present an outstanding group of open show and donor prospects, the demand for bred females in recent Genetic Opportunity sales has led the group to increase the number in that division. They are sharing some of the very top producers and young females in their respective herds. The success that Genetic Opportunity customers have had with past investments is testament to the depth and quality present in past events, and this year is no exception. These cattle combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in the industry. The bottom line is: Genetic Opportunity cattle appreciate in value. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none. The Angus breed’s most popular sires are represented here as well as an exciting group of females by the resident herd sires for each firm. Excellent show and donor prospects from power cow families and sired by breed-leading bulls will sell. Past junior customers have claimed championship honors in show rings across the region and at every level of competition. Whether you select a proven female or an open prospect, you cannot go wrong. You will find an excellent set of replacement females—either sold alone or on the side of their dams. If you are searching for a young donor, don’t overlook the select set of bred heifers. I am excited to again be working with this progressive group of Angus breeders in the marketing of their cattle. Evaluate your own situation and breeding goals, and on Saturday, September 9th, take advantage of the knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Please join us Friday evening for food and refreshments while you preview the cattle. Feel free to contact me or any of the owners with your questions or comments. Sincerely,
SALE MANAGER Matt Sims

Lot 1 offers a unique blend of angularity and power that is complemented by an outstanding numerical profile. The proven granddam of Lot 1 has posted progeny ratios of WW 8@103, YW 4@113, IMF 13@101 and RE 13@100. 293 offers a uniquely rare pedigree and stamps her phenotype in her progeny, as is evident in this granddaughter by Discovery. A maternal sister to the dam of Lot 1, Craft Merle of 26-M293-R08, exhibited by Catherine Knebel, Winamac, Ind., was Early Junior Yearling Champion, 2006 Indiana State Fair 4-H Show; Class 35 second place, 2006 National Junior Angus Show; Grand Champion, 2006 Northwest Indiana Preview Show; and Champion Angus and Supreme Champion Female, 2006 Pulaski County Fair. Lot 3 offers a broody look while maintaining a long neck that comes high out of her shoulders to create a profile that is easy on the eyes. Add in the maternal strength of the Jestress family, and Lot 3 enhances her value beyond the show ring to the pasture. Once again Dale has brought you a young female that exemplifies the look desired by today’s show ring judges. This March heifer couples the body type and structural base desired for replacement females with the femininity and profile needed to find her way to the backdrop. Dale believes there is tremendous potential in this descendant of the Grubbs foundation Rowena, D G Miss Rowena 74, and she is among the best he has ever sold. The sire of Lots 5 through 7, SAC Conversation, combines striking good looks with the EPD script of a multi-trait improver while offering an outcross pedigree combined with impeccable skeletal design and muscle shape. One of the most admired bulls in the Select Sires lineup, Conversation is wide based and square hipped with tremendous depth of body, a wide top and bold rib shape. • Sells open.

Dale and Les selected the sire of Lot 13 from Windy Ridge in Montana, and he is doing an excellent job, as is evident in this daughter. Dale believes there is tremendous potential in this descendant of the Grubbs foundation Rosetta, 103. Lot 13 offers tremendous length of spine and angularity in an eye-catching package. When she is on the move, you appreciate the soundness and functionality of this outstanding prospect and can easily see how competitive she will be as she continues to mature. • Sells open.

Here is a fancy show and donor prospect that is sound on the move and attractive at the stand. Her rib and maternal look add visual value to her impressive profile, being especially long fronted and functional through her center body. We love the ring presence this heifer presents. Her angularity and head and neck presentation complement her sweep of rib and impeccable structure, particularly on the profile. The sire of Lot 11, V A R Ranger 3008, is the cattleman’s choice of Ten X sons. He is one of the deepest, thickest, cleanest, biggest footed, smoothest strided Ten X sons in the business. Ranger is a maternal brother to the popular Generation and Reserve bulls. His dam is the popular 8809 female that has exceeded $2,500,000 in progeny sales in the past four years and is one of the most dominant females in the breed. • Sells open.
