BC Marathon 7022 Sire of Lot 401…several daughters and granddaughters sell
✓ The female leading off the cow/calf pair offering blends the power of Marathon with the genetic and numeric quality of the Blackbird 558H family. A maternal sister to 8153,
sired by the Marathon son Raven, sold in the 2009 Denim and Diamonds Sale in Denver for $17,500 to KB Cattle Company, while a full sister to 8153 sold for $7,000 in that same sale and another for $5,750 in the 2008 LaGrand Fall Female Sale. Their dam, Blackbird 4504, was selected as the $97,500 2005 Angus Foundation Heifer in Denver to join the elite donor herd at LaGrand. 4504 blends the foundation maternal and carcass Pathfinder Sire Summitcrest High Prime with the $520,000-valued Riverbend Ranch and Deer Valley donor Blackbird 558H; she has blossomed into what may be the most phenotypically impressive daughter of 558H to date. Two flush mates to 4504 were selected by Rutherford Ranches as $30,000 spring yearlings from the 2005 sale at Three Trees Ranch. One of them, Three Trees Blackbird 4238, has gone on to do great things at Rutherford Ranches, with the first pregnancy from her selling for $20,000 as the top selling heifer calf pregnancy of the 2007 Stars of Texas Sale, while another was the $29,000 top selling heifer pregnancy of the 2007 Grand Slam Sale in Texas to give a $49,000 return from a $30,000 investment. Other full sisters to Blackbird 4504 include the $45,000 Blackcap 4503, who along with three progeny generated $112,000 in sales in the 2008 Three Trees Sale, and the $35,000 Blackbird 4260, whose daughters by Mile High sold for $55,000 in 2008 and $50,000 in 2007 at Three Trees. A daughter of yet another full sister, Blackbird 4319, sold for $52,000 in the 2008 Three Trees Sale.
The pairs will sell in catalog order. This is a solid group of productive females from time-tested as well as cutting-edge Angus genetics. There are many, many more that should have been pictured, but due to weather conditions and calving, we were unable to photograph but a few. From the two year olds to the proven matrons, these are quality females that can be the base for new herds and improve existing ones. This is a relatively young group, with over 200 of them six years of age or less. We have made an earnest effort to register the 2012-born calves as quickly as possible and have included all available interim EPDs at catalog press time; more will be available sale day. Don’t miss the opportunity to improve your cow herd on Saturday, April 14th. Remember…a video of every lot selling can be seen at www.superiorlivestock.com
