ANNUAL BULL SALE | MARCH 15, 2019 STOCKMEN’S LIVESTOCK | YANKTON, SOUTH DAKOTA
Cattlemen & Cattlewomen, It is with utmost excitement that we welcome your consideration to our Annual Bull Sale. As expected, we have been working hard over the past twenty some months to assemble this offering of exciting Red Angus yearling bulls, and we are truly thankful for the interest you have in our cattle and program. The genetics represented this year are among the breeds finest; some you’re undoubtedly familiar with, and some you’ve probably never heard of. Breed improvement is altogether our foremost objective. There are certain Red Angus breeders that are so evidently defined in the kind, pedigrees, and EPDs that make them, them. We certainly respect that. All too often though, you’ll find breeders that become inherently narrow-minded, chasing the certain characteristics or traits that they feel have the biggest impact on their own, personal bottom-line. However, we’re keeping an open mind to different lines of genetics, ultimately to breed the kind of Red Angus cattle that are the most problem-free, low-maintenance, and profitable for the commercial cow-calf producer. For more information on our long-term direction, take a minute to read “The Niobrara Philosophy & Vision” on page 4. If we’re being honest with ourselves, the selection of purebred bulls around the United States is vast, overly saturated, and mind-boggling. Every publication, newspaper, or scroll through social media leaves you inundated with bulls for sale. With that recognized, it leaves us with the question, “Why buy our bulls?” Ultimately, you need a bull that is suited for your environment, and gets your cows settled. Fertility and libido are mandatory. Secondly, who desires to invest in a bull that breaks down structurally within the first year? Sadly, it happens more often than not, and we feel certain breeders almost enjoy the idea of preconditioning a customer to believe they need to come by a new bull every single year. With these two most basic criteria for bull selection identified, you are guaranteed to meet both here at Niobrara Red Angus. Check out “Why Buy A Bull From Niobrara Red Angus?” on page 3 to have a better understanding of why we feel our cattle can best benefit you. Red Angus cattle are our passion. We have challenged ourselves to breed and raise the most complete, profit-driving Red Angus cattle in the breed. Are EPDs solely how we improve our next calf crop? No. Are we aiming to disregard all of that, improving the cattle exclusively by what we see visually? No. Our goal is to focus on breed improvement by utilizing everything possible, while sticking to what we feel are the commercial cattlemen’s most basic requirements: fertility, longevity, and profitability. We wholeheartedly appreciate your consideration of the bulls we have on offer. Feel free to contact us at any time. We love talking about Red Angus cattle. - Niobrara Red Angus

ANNUAL BULL SALE | MARCH 15, 2019 STOCKMEN’S LIVESTOCK | YANKTON, SOUTH DAKOTA
WHY BUY A BULL FROM NIOBRARA RED ANG U S? THE MOST PROGRESSIVE GENETICS
In developing our core to breed from, we have made it a priority to visit and visually appraise an alarming number of Red Angus breeders across the country. In those visits, we identified certain lines and kinds of Red Angus cattle that we felt check the most boxes; sticking to what we feel provide the most fertility, longevity, and profitability in the beef business. Feel confident in knowing that you have available in front of you, yearling bulls that are the direct progeny of some of the breed’s most elite seedstock in North America.
VOLUME DISCOUNTS
Free delivery to any state in the Continental United States is something we proudly offer. Occasionally, a buyer may need to meet a trailer at a central spot, but we will do our best to get them delivered directly to you.
$100 REBATE - PICK-UP YOUR BULL SALE WEEK
$250 REBATE - RETURNED CARCASS DATA
Tired of fat, lazy, bulls that were pushed to their structural limits in development? We are too! Our bulls were developed from weaning at the Darr Bull Development Center in Cozad, Nebraska. Earlier than most, we pull our bulls out after yearling data has been collected in order to make sure they are lean, mean breeding machines ready for turn out. Added fat in a bull’s scrotum only prolongs their ability to regulate temperature for proper semen production. Feel confident these bulls will be genuine in their condition and shape and ready to work!
FREE DELIVERY
Bull are guaranteed to be 100% sound and healthy breeders with an unconditional first breeding season guarantee. They will have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam 30-45 days prior to the sale. The breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls. We will provide you with a satisfactory replacement, if available, or issue you a credit equal to the bull’s purchase price minus the salvage value received for that bull.
We will be offering a $100 per head Rebate for customers who arrange to pick up their bulls at the Ranch within one week of the sale.
3-5 Bulls, 5% We’ll take off 5% Purchase Price at settlement. 6 or More, Make it 10% We’ll take off 10% Purchase Price at settlement.

THE N I OBRARA PHILOSOPHY & VISION In the simplest of description, our long-term goal is to bridge the divide in the Red Angus breed between correctly structured “phenotype” cattle with a disadvantage in the availability of genetic data and information, with the typical, number-chasing U.S. Red Angus cow; genetic history and contemporaries of plenty, with a compromised foot structure that has simply been overlooked for far too many years. In our extensive travels, we have seen herds of all different shapes and sizes, priorities and unimportance’s, trends and age-old beliefs. Many, not all, of the cattle that appear to be the most elite in the Red Angus database, are in actuality some of the poorest footed, worst structured cattle in the breed that have compromised longevity. We are led to believe it’s because decisions have been made in a swivel chair, and not in the middle of their cowherd. Breeders that have mated cows based on the Planned Mating calculator on the Red Angus website have looked past the visual appraisals that HAVE to take place. Top 1% doesn’t mean guaranteed to breed for 5 years. More times than not, their feet are genetically debilitating and you find them shuffling in when the cow herd is gathered in the fall because their toes have grown crossed and they’re in pain.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we’ve found cattle that prove their longevity. Feet are not trimmed, cows live through their entire productive life and actually make you a greater return on that initial investment. BUT, if you were to look at their EPD’s on paper, you may find yourself saying, “Why would I breed to this cow-killing, nanny-goat performing creature with the marbling of a Belgian Blue?” In reality, these cattle calve, perform, and grade equal to or even better than the data-focused cattle that clearly display a strong advantage in their genetic profile. Our thought is, why would I buy a bull perceived to be in the Top 1% for the Herdbuilder Index, when his toes are mal-shaped and I’m going to have to worry about him breeding enough cows to keep me in business?! In closing, our goal is the crossover of these distinct sectors of the breed. Our cattle may never be Top 1% for a certain trait, but if they prove to have longevity and sire calves that guarantee the buyer gets a solid return on his investment, then that’s when we know we are headed down the correct path. We are following that path now; identifying and utilizing certain bulls or cows that we know provide enough problem-free longevity and profitability for a solid ROI. However, it takes time; lots of time to identify those individuals. And it’s our goal here at Niobrara Red Angus to be able to offer that kind to you.

THE TEAM JEFF & TAMI KELLER, OWNERS of Niobrara Red Angus, grew up in Niobrara, Nebraska. In their years around home, they grew up on Tami’s family’s cattle ranch, Leader Angus Farm, helping to complete the day to day of ranch responsibilities. Years later, after college and law school and establishing residence in Lincoln, NE, the Keller’s knew they wanted a connection back to their roots; also wanting their three boys Sam, Jack and Ben to have a chance to be involved in agriculture. Thus, Niobrara Red Angus was established. Although they are not on-farm most business days, the effort and team they have developed, they feel is second to none. JACOB BATHKE, RANCH MANAGER, resides and oversees Niobrara Red Angus each day. Born and raised in Niobrara, he is the fourth generation to graduate from Niobrara High. He manages and oversees the daily operations of the ranch, and is responsible for their wellbeing. He says he owes most of his cattle knowledge to Kent Snowdon, who got him started in the cattle industry about 15 years ago. Jacob graduated from Northeast Community College with an Associates Degree in Agronomy. He’s grateful for the opportunity to work for the Keller Family, and to be able to work with such high quality seedstock. He would also like to acknowledge and thank his brother Shane, and other friends and family that help him time to time throughout the year.
KAY KRIVOLAVEK, OFFICE MANAGER, resides in Lincoln, NE with her three children Jada, Maddox & Greyson. She is originally from Niobrara, NE and grew up on her parents’ family farm just miles from Niobrara Red Angus, and nearly next door to the Leader Angus Farm. Growing up on a small family farm, in a beautiful part of the state, is where her passion for agriculture began. This passion has led her to pursue a career working with livestock as well as an agricultural-focused technology innovation company. GARRETT KNEBEL, MARKETING MANAGER, resides in Bozeman, MT with his wife Katelyn. There they own and operate Storey Hereford Ranch & Harmony Hill, a progressive Hereford & Red Angus operation focused on seedstock for the commercial cow-calf operator. With a degree from Oklahoma State University, Garrett’s main responsibilities for Niobrara Red Angus include marketing, consulting, breeding, and seedstock selection. In his spare time, he travels the country visiting with fellow Red Angus breeders and judging livestock shows.

8005
In our offering of bulls this year, there are several individuals that excel for different reasons. However, this Signature son represents the kind of cattle that we will continue to base our breeding decisions around. A standout since summer, this deep red yearling brings to the table as much length, stoutness, shape and dimension as any Red Angus bull you’ll see marketed this spring. Loaded with performance, his calves are guaranteed to crush the scales with more pounds than your regular herd-sire. With a striking herdbull look and a smooth build, we know this bull will turn heads regardless of where he lands on sale day. His mother, Baneberry 5238, needs no introduction to the Red Angus breed, and we’re fortunate enough to offer a total of four of her sons in this year’s offering. 8005 puts it all together, and will push most any herd he’s used in, in a more progressive and profitable direction.
SIRE / RED U-2 RECKONING 149A
DAM / C-BAR ABIGRACE 264Z
A favorite of many ranch visitors this past year, this Reckoning son is ready to take your program to the next level. It is obvious to us, structure and foot shape are the biggest areas needed for breed improvement in the Red Angus breed. With a cow herd predominantly of Canadian genetics, we are taking the objective of improving a structural base seriously. Arguably one of the best footed, soundest structured bulls in the offering, he handles his mass and dimension flawlessly. A muscular, square topped, square hipped bull, he’ll add the dimension and density while keeping his calves sound at the ground. Backed by the ever-so-consistent Abigrace cow family, with his dam 264Z having an MMPA of 109, we know he’ll put the kind of replacements on the ground that you can’t let go of. Study this bull hard folks; you won’t find many as good as him.

If you’re on the hunt for a heifer bull that’ll wean calves as heavy as your mature cows, hang onto your hats, because you’ve found one! A huge-middled, stout-constructed, muscular yearling bull with an adjusted Weaning Weight of 870 pounds, he has the presence needed to chase those heifers all over the hills. A son of “Beartooth”, as he’s called, he’s been proven a calving-ease sire that stamps a stout, square look into absolutely every one of his progeny. Topping sales across the country, cattlemen know these Beartooth sons work. Backed by an absolutely breath-taking cow owned with Feddes Red Angus in Montana, his maternal side couldn’t be any stronger. This bull’s a truck, and his pedigree is proven. Take home a heifer bull that’ll get the job done right.
6 If you’re raising Red Angus, you’ve heard of Cinch 4126 because he’s flat worked across the country, on a variety of cows, in many different environments. Top 5% for Weaning Weight & Yearling Weight, this bull will add the pounds! We’ve seen Cinch work in multiple cow herds, and you’ll find several more in next year’s bull sale, as we mated him to half of our bred heifers. A stout, muscular, big-topped, big-hipped bull that’s loaded with performance, we know 8002 will raise a profitable kind. If you’re looking to inject some more pounds into your calf crop at weaning, there is no doubt this bull will do it. Feel confident in this bull’s ability to get the job done.

Talk about MASSIVE, these Weber Reform sons put it all together! Sired by the $100,000 Weber Reform 618 that has the Red Angus breed abuzz, we know the kind these bulls will produce. With Adjusted Weaning Weights of almost 900 pounds, they flat perform! Deep red, super stout, square and muscular in a moderate, efficient package, they represent a kind that anyone in the country can appreciate. The density and performance these bulls provide, while keeping mature size in moderation, is absolutely impressive. Out of a Reckoning daughter, Six Mile Cresta 250C, that claimed Reserve Grand Champion Female at the N.A.I.L.E. in Kentucky, and the N.W.S.S. in Colorado, they’re backed by a gorgeous cow with udder quality that dreams are made of. If you’re looking for bulls that will keep color dark red, and inject meat and muscle into your calves, you ought to load one of these boogers up.

Another Reckoning son that is so extremely hard to flaw! Power, stoutness, muscle shape and squareness, this bull is assembled as good as they get. Ms. Stony A305, with an MPPA of 109, needs NO introduction. From the C-BAR program in Kansas, she is one of the cornerstone donor cows for their operation and has produced multiple high-selling bulls and females in their sales. This bull is built for big country, assembled to cover as much ground as any bull in the offering. With longevity and consistency on both sides of his pedigree, he’s bred for maximum profitability.

A red Spur Franchise of Garton son, that weaned off as heavy as any of them here at Niobrara. With the heaviest Adjusted Yearling Weight of 1,354 pounds, he’ll hit you hard on sale day, being a big, extended bull that’s as pounds heavy as any. Top 1% for both Marb. and REA, this bull’s EPD profile is HARD TO FIND! Study him on paper, and you’ll really fall in love with the potential he can have on a calf crop. One of the best carcass bulls in the offering, we know he’ll add value on many levels. A true beef bull, with exceptional carcass merit that’ll have buyers sit up in their chairs the next time you market calves through the ring.
SIRE / SPUR FRANCHISE OF GARTON
DAM / JEFFRIES MS JOLINE Z243
Top 1% for both Marb. and REA, this bull’s EPD profile is HARD TO FIND! The potential is here for this to be one of the best carcass bulls you have the opportunity to purchase in 2019. This moderate, low-maintenance, calving ease bull is sound structured and efficient in his look. Athletic on the go, we know he’ll travel well on big range. Study him on paper, with MARB, YG, CW, and REA all in the Top 10% of the breed, his fed offspring will hang with as much dollar generating potential as any of the bulls offered in the auction. Backed by the Z243 Donor of C-Bar’s, this bull’s siblings by PIE One Of A Kind start off C-Bar’s 2019 Annual Bull Sale as Lots 1-7! Furthermore, we sold a full sibling to 8016 in the Flash & Function Sale to Sandridge Farms of Mississippi, convincing us that look and phenotype is represented well here in this mating. It’ll be interesting to see how this bull comes together leading up to the sale. Make certain he’s one you’re watching for!

Arguably the stoutest, squarest, most muscular bull in the offering. It’s hard to make Red Angus cattle this square in their shape, wide to the ground, and stout in their bone work. Backed by the Baneberry 5238 cow, 8019 is a maternal sibling to 8005, and it’s evident this kind of power is a constant from the donor cow. He’s an intriguing, low-maintenance, modern-day kind that can be utilized in the most desolate areas of the U.S. DAM

If you’re looking to breed striking, fault free replacements that have a look to garner the highest of premiums, take note in this Signature son that stems from our Six Mile Gloria 195B donor owned in partnership with Six Mile Ranch. One of our youngest donor cows, with limited progeny on the ground, she already raised the Sale Topping heifer calf in Six Mile’s Genetic Focus Sale that sold for $26,000. The youngest bull in the sale, don’t let his immaturity fool you in comparison. This bull can create revenue in multiple ways. DAM

A super dark colored, stout made bull that has range bull written all over him. Big topped, and big hipped with as much length of body and smoothness as any, we know he’ll sire calves with added performance. A sound footed bull that’s very functional in his structure, we’re confident he’ll prove to be one motivated, athletic herd bull. SIRE

Stemming from the 5L herd in Montana on his maternal side, this U-2 Hard Drive son is as complete as any bull offered. Stout, muscular, big-ribbed and smooth made, he’ll prove to be very problem free. With the look of a herd bull, he’s the kind we know will generate a return far beyond his cost.

Combining two of the most consistent Red Angus seed stock parents in the breed, you cannot go wrong with adding 8020 to your bull battery. Warcraft, only recently released into the U.S. by way of Harmony Hill, has made a huge impact in his first year of progeny in the U.S., siring many of Registered breeders top end calves. Backed by the most potent, maternal giant in our Donor Battery, Alana 13X, she is the dam to the highest selling bull ever at Six Mile Ranch, High Caliber, which sold for $115,000. We are confident this bull will not only sire performance driven feeders, but also some extremely valuable replacements that could be retained. Zero questions in this mating; it’s as bulletproof as any.

Another range bull that’s as complete as any we’re offering; study his stoutness, body volume, and masculine look. Our Powerhouse bull has sired solid bull calves, as well as replacements that we are thrilled to put back into the herd. 2085Z is an up and coming donor here for Niobrara, who will have a STRONG offering of bulls and heifers in our 2019 calf crop. It may sound redundant, but another solid bull we are confident in standing behind.

SIRE / WEBER REFORM 618
LOT 18 Be among the first in the United States to utilize a “Reform” son at home in your own herd. Lakota 35W is a breed-leading, CAA ELITE Dam that made her claim to fame with her $64,000 half interest son Game Face, who in turn sired the Two-Time Denver Champion Bull, Taurus. Once again, the proven, consistent pedigree that these two bulls have is something to be extremely valued. These are some of the younger bulls in the offering, and very well could be over-looked on sale day. Once again, a couple bulls whose return on investment will generate substantially more than they will cost you.
