Fellow Breeders, RED ANGUS ENTHUSIASTS AND FRIENDS, Welcome to our 4th Annual Red Angus Female sale and if you’re new to the breed, welcome to one of the most exciting breeds of cattle in the United States today! We absolutely could not be more enthused about the future of this breed. We have seen great improvement in the interest of these red cattle since we began breeding Red Angus nine years ago. Like many others we were involved in another breed of cattle before starting our Red Angus herd and found that the docility, fleshing ability, mothering traits, carcass merit and profit potential of these cattle are superior to any that we have had before. We enjoy raising these cattle and being a part of a breed that is growing AND has room for new breeders to join and grow with us. We extend a special invitation to juniors looking for heifer projects! We have a passion for helping young people who want to get involved in the cattle industry because they are the future. This business is needing young blood as the average age of cattle producers in the US is at an all time high. We are proud to offer a scholarship program for young customers and invite them to attend our Cow Camp next summer! These are great opportunities to further their education and develop your passion for this business. We also invite you to mark your calendars for June 22-25, 2011 and join the fun in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the 6th Annual North American Junior Red Angus Show. We are sponsors of the new Futurity Show at the NAJRA so ALL the heifer calves selling on this sale will be eligible! For more information check out the website at www.jrredangusshow.com. We feel extremely confident that the females offered in this sale will be great genetic opportunities for their new owners. Our program is based on blending phenotype with performance. We believe you have to enjoy looking at cattle in the pasture not just looking at their numbers on the computer. Structure and soundness, muscle, rib shape and balance are as important to us as performance and EPD’s, you can have both. Performance cattle can be attractive cattle, so therefore it is our goal and our challenge to produce cattle that meet this criteria. It’s what makes us get out of bed each morning. This is what keeps us from giving up when it hits 40 degrees below zero in January and 107 degrees in July. We have to enjoy it or we would never put up with all the obstacles. Like all of you, PASSION for these cattle is what makes us enjoy the cattle business! So bring your passion, and all the family to Marietta, OK September 25th, 2011. Look over the sale offering enjoy the BBQ Lunch and enjoy a day surrounded by good cattle and great people that all enjoy the same passion! If you can’t make it, join the sale on DV Auction or contact us or the sale representatives to leave a bid or be on the phone. We look forward to seeing all our old friends and making plenty of new ones. Give us a call if we can help you in any way. See you September 25th, Dan, Cheryl & Cassie

Welcome to the Red Legends and Black Diamonds Production Offering! A great Red Angus auction season is unfolding before us with more enthusiasm, more interest and more demand for Red Angus genetics than I can recall in my lifetime and history with the breed! As you gear up for this fantastic event, I encourage you to study this catalog and realize the passion, dedication and commitment that the Johnson family has brought to Red Angus. The Solution Genetics program continues to breed cattle that dominate the show ring and more importantly make structurally correct, eye appealing cattle that work in the pasture, in the Donor Pen and produce top quality bulls for both seedstock and commercial cattle operations. If you have junior members that are interested in cattle and showing, the Johnsons have a unique opportunity for learning and developing these interests through their Summer Cow Camp and future educational support through their Scholarship Program. No Red Angus program that I am aware of has done more for junior Red Angus members than Dan, Cheryl and Cassie. I am excited and honored to again be the auctioneer at the 2010 Red Legends Auction and invite your call for cattle appraisal or assistance in making your purchase on sale day. Best Regards,

Kyle Gilchrist (641) 919-1077

The

PEEK-A-BOO Family Every year we wait in anticipation to see how the heifers in our herd grow and develop into young replacement females for this sale. This year 009X has been at the top of the class from the beginning. Throughout the year she has always been a stout made female that has plenty of bone, muscle expression, capacity and, of course, the long feminine head and neck that she gets from her dam. X-Treme is only the second female that we have offered out of the new up and coming SLGN Solution sire. Retaining 1/2 Embryo Interest.

This female is exactly what we hoped she would be when we decided to do this mating. Deep flank, big rib and top with a nice set to her pasterns making her good on the move. She is very feminine and will develop into a very good cow down the road. Her dam has had a major impact in our donor program and has produced many past Red Legends high sellers. Peek’s X-Tra will be extremely competitive in the March class. She has a great disposition and will be a good investment for her new owner. Retaining 1/2 Embryo Interest. Red Legends 6

REGULATOR Family

The

X-Tra Fancy is a great name for this head turning female. She expresses extra dimension over her top and out of her hip. She is very long fronted and walks out like a cat. Has a smooth shoulder and look at how deep she is from her fore-rib to her flank. Level down her top, and out of her hip and when she walks you appreciate the amount of flex in her pasterns and joints. She is a big BW toYW spread female that offers multiple mating options. Take a close look at this heifer on sale day. She deserves your attention!

SLGN Regulator 503R really puts his profile in his calves. They all have extra lenght of body, good muscle pattern. The females are feminine while the bulls are scale busters! A past Fort Worth Champion, Regulator sired the Champion Female and Reserve Champion bull at the National Western in his first calf crop for Nordlund Stock Farms of MN. Of course, having Cherokee Canyon and the Rambo cow family on the bottom side sure doesn’t hurt this heifer’s future potential. Red Legends 7

The

SELINA Family Introducing a new Donor Cow to the Solution Genetics line-up. SLGN Blockanna’s Selina 678S is a direct daughter to the famous Blockanna 807 cow. 807 was the first ever Triple Crown Winner in the Red Angus breed. Selina has some big shoes to fill coming out of 807, but I believe that she has gotten off to a tremndous start. Her first crop of ET calves have been extremely consistent in their look. They all have a dark red color to them, have plenty of muscle shape and are moderate in their frame score.

Xira 044 is a very expressive female that hits you with shape and dimension no matter what angle you look at her from. She is very uniform in her body depth from front to back. She will impress you even more when you start looking at her from the ground up. 044 is a big boned female that stands on a solid foot and when set into motion she takes a very long and smooth stride.

X-Perience 0201X is a smoother patterned heifer when you compare her to 044X. She profiles with a cleaner front-end and ties her neck into a smooth shoulder. You can really appreciate the amount of body depth that this female has and how she fills her fore-rib. She is also really level down her top and especially out of her long hip. She is the kind of female that will always present herself as a real feminine type of heifer.

The

SELINA Family X-Ample 051X may be the closest representation of her sire out of this group. Fully Loaded is known for the massive rib shape and expression of muscle. I think X-Ample is a good “Example” of that! She may be the stoutest female of the three sisters and what is most impressive is how she puts that power into a feminine package. She profiles with a level top and takes a long fluid stride just like her other sisters.

The last of the four heifers may be the dark horse. She had an injury to the top of her shoulder when she was a baby and it set her back a little. At that time she was the stoutest of the four and will be again with a little time. She is very long bodied and extended though her front third with a nice feminine look about her head and neck. These Fully Loaded females are rare in the U.S. and the time to invest is now before their true value as performance cows is realized. When you find them with a pedigree that goes back to Blockanna 807 it just adds to the future potential.

Persuassion 002X may not have a powerful name like her sisters but that does not mean that she isn’t powerful herself. This heifer is sure to be one that you can find a lot of different bulls to mate her to just because of her phenotype. When you have that much body depth and muscle you can be assured that her calves will be really stout and fancy! Mate these females to a maternal bull like Cowboy Cut who will keep them stout and good structured and you’ll have to put a lock on the pasture gate to keep the neighbors from taking them! These four females are full sisters to the female Edward Spencer of Nebraska purchased on our 2008 sale. He lite up the showring and earned Scholarship funds for college!

She is the type that you can take around as a bred and just blow the judge away with her femininity and freshness. When you think of Solution Genetics and our Donor cows, the ones you think of first are Bailey, Precision, Peek-A-Boo, Tess, etc. But, the donor cow in our program that may be the most consistent producer of them all is Meado-West Persuasion. She is the one that is the pick of all the herd when it comes to moderate and easy fleshing with a good udder. The marketability of her calves has been outstanding, as well, we have sold progeny for $12000, $8500, $8000, $6000 and $5500 along with several others that have been well above market average. Her dam is a past Champion female at the World Beef Expo and has been a major flush cow for the Meado-West program.

Here is what a brood cow looks like when they are a calf. This gal has depth of rib and shape of rib, she is square in her hip and good on the move. Her sire has been a consistent producer at Solution Genetics combining muscle, rib and fleshing ability into a very complete package. This gal will not only be competitive in the showring, she will make someone a very productive cow. She is the type of Red Angus that could crossover and produce club calves. Tested OS Carrier.

This is the youngest calf on the sale and was pictured five days after being weaned and halter broke. By sale day you won’t even recognize her so don’t miss out. She has a very well balanced EPD profile and a pedigree backed by solid proven producers in the Red Angus breed. Her sire won the Forth Worth Stock Show and has been a herd sire at our place ever since. Her paternal Granddam is from the great Stony cow family and is a full sister to the 2003 National Champion Female. Red Legends 14

This heifer is the result of an embryo splitting and was raised with her twin heifer sister. She may qualify as the most feminine Fully Loaded female we have seen. She is a full sister to the 2010 Nebraska Cattlemens Classic Grand Champion Bull. She comes in a moderate frame and is very well balanced in her type and kind. The 77L cow is the kind that you would like to have more of, she is an easy fleshing female with a foundation pedigree. 054X will just keep getting better!

This could get real good. X-actly 068X isn’t exact, but darn close to the same pedigree as our 2007 Triple Crown Winning female SLGN Savannah. They share the same dam, and 068X is sired by Billings rather than Advance 121R himself. I believe this calf is going to grow in value as she comes into production and will be an excellent donor prospect down the road. She certainly has a proven pedigree that has worked time and again in our program! This calf will be a strong contender in the February class as a bred heifer.

Mulberry made a big impact in this breed the last couple of years and as his daughters come into production, I haven’t talked to anybody yet that has been dissapointed. Her dam, Rambo R726 is also the dam of a Triple Crown winner and several past high sellers for Solution Genetics. She sold in last years sale to Three I farms of Texas. X-tra Berry has good performance EPD’s and a sharp look. She is really extended through her front and has excellent rib shape. We believe in this female and would like to retain a future flush at your convenience. Minimum 6 embryos. Red Legends 15

The

faith Family In our herd, Regulator has always worked extremely well on Cherokee Canyon daughters and this flush certainly didn’t disappoint us. These two females came from the recip herd a little greener, but it’s not hard to see the potential. They have the Regulator length of body and straight top with extended fronts. Cherokee Canyon adds the rib and fleshing ability and you got a pair of usefull females. Buy these with confidence they will make great youth projects and awsome cows.

If you can find a female with more lower third, call me. I really apprectiate how broody this calf looks at 7 months of age. She has a nice front third, ties in well through her neck and shoulder and explodes in her depth of rib and body mass. She maybe a little flatter made but I can think of alot of bulls that will click on this one. Her dam is a Boot Jack cow we purchased in Montana. The Sheba 4x cow is a great looking female that has been a solid producer in our donor program. Her sire, Monu 4x, is also the grand sire of our Persuasion cow family. SLGN Xena was recently selected as the Reserve Calf Champion at the 2011 Iowa State Fair and has been a favorite of many respected cattlemen. Lot 44 is a bred recip carrying a Conquest X Rebella 102 R5088 embryo. The heifer calf pictured above is a full sister to the embryo in Lot 44. The heifer above was a sale highlight at the C-Bar sale in Kansas last year. We purchased the Rebella cow at C-Bar’s sale and now it looks like we were pretty savy, as the Maiers are promoting C-Bar Powerball, who is out of Rebella R5088. The excitment surrounding this bull is amazing to say the least as Powerball is attracting national attention and may well end up at a major stud. Here is a great way to get ahead of the game by purchasing this recip and have a maternal sib to one of the next great bulls in the breed. The recip is a seven year old cow. Due 4/22/11

Fall Bred Females Shoco Blockana r91

Sit up and take notice of this great female! I can’t find a hole in her. If you are looking for a super donor prospect, this bred heifer has to be on your list. Fantastic pedigree including some of the great foundation bloodlines in the breed, solid EPD profile, excellent carcass numbers and good individual performance. She is really complete in every aspect including phenotype. Many of these foundation bred females are hitting 11,12 &13 years of age or better, what an opportunity to do it all again with a youngster! What makes this even more exciting is the fact that she is due 10-21 to Cowboy Cut, the 2010 Reserve Champion Bull at NWSS. Now that is genetic lead time! Take advantage of the chance to get Cowboy Cut genetics ahead of the pack! Retaining 1/2 Embryo Interest.

Here is another good R91 daughter this time out of the good Forster Blaze bull. This cow family is as solid as they come as we all know what the Rambo 502 females can produce. These foundation genetics are tried and proven and have paid alot of bills in many good Red Angus programs. Lot 46 sells to the service of Cowboy Cut and is due 10-21-10. The Cowboy Cut calves are really impressive, with over 70 head on the ground in Canada, the reports are exciting! This should be a great mating and I’m sure this first calf will go along way in paying for this purchase. Red Legends 24

Supporting Our Juniors

What better way to help our juniors continue their dreams while planning for the future than to offer a scholarship program that will do just that. We have always tried to support our juniors and feel this program will help give back to those young people who work so hard. To be eligible for Scholarship Program, Juniors must complete all requirements as follows: The animals must be purchased from Solution Genetics at public auction or private treaty by the junior and registered in the junior’s name. The year of purchase and receipt of payment determines which year you will qualify under the graduated program. If you purchase an animal in 2010, that is year one. Animals purchased and paid for in subsequent calendar years qualify you for additional years. If any year is missed, the future purchase will be credited to the next year of purchase (i.e. if you purchase in 2008 and 2010, then 2010--- would be the second year of purchase. Only the highest qualifying level per animal will be awarded. (i.e., If your animal wins Grand Champion at the Louisville Jr. Show and Reserve Grand at your State Jr. Field Day, you will be paid on the highest level of winning only; $1000 in this example.) The year of purchase (one, two, three, four or five), not the year of the show, will determine which scholarship year will be honored. Eligible shows listed must have a minimum of 25 entries to qualify for awards program. To qualify for each scholarship, the student is required to submit the proper information of verification to Solution Genetics including proof of winning (on Approved Scholarship Form), 8 x 10 picture, and provide proof of enrollment. Scholarships will be paid to the junior upon proof of enrollment at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school. Qualifiers must complete their education at the accredited college, university or vocational-technical school of their choice on or before their 30th birthday or the remaining portion of their Scholarships will be forfeited.

DEAR FELLOW BREEDERS, On behalf of everyone at Solution Genetics, we invite you to join us Saturday, September 25th at the Bruce Brooks Ranch in Marietta, Oklahoma, for the 1st Annual Black Diamonds Sale! Opportunity, as defined in Webster’s Dictionary: “a good chance for advancement or progress” When the opportunity to purchase the Valley View Angus Herd presented itself, we didn’t hesitate to take advantage of it. This herd of Angus cows was put together by our good friends who we consider to be some of the top cattlemen in the industry. We look forward to establishing this program at a time when “opportunity” is bountiful in the Angus breed, and we are excited to be a part of this great breed of cattle! We would like to thank Charlie Burgraff (Angus cow herd manager)and his family for helping us with the Black Angus herd. Charlie does a great job with these cows and your invited to stop by anytime for a herd visit! Join us in Marietta and see why we are so excited! We look forward to helping you in any way we can. All the heifer calves qualify for our scholarship program and cow camp. The bred heifers are sure to please the most discriminating cattlemen. Please give us a call if we can assist you in any way. See you September 25th, Dan, Cheryl & Cassie

The

BISMARCK Family Bismark was a hot item this year and we can tell why. His females at the National Jr Angus Show were stout, soggy and very functional, much like SLGN Forever Lady 06x. This female is a moderate framed heifer calf that has a lot of rib shape and dimension from her shoulders back. When you see her out on the move you really appreciate her long free stride. Take a look at this female and see if you can see why Bismark is making a major impact.

She is a wide chested female that carries that width all the way out of her pins. What I really like about 9038 is how her shoulders blend smoothly into her fore-rib and how she offers so much dimension and upper rib shape when you look at her down her top.
