WELCOME TO

DIXIELAND DELIGHT Hi, Everybody!
Every year when I have the opportunity to write a Welcome letter to our customers and Randy and Kelly Owen prospective customers, I truly count my blessings. To be able to live out the dreams of my grandfathers and father, regarding purebred Herefords and Angus, is an experience I will cherish as long as I live. To see my dreams carried forward by Randa and John is true happiness. Outside of my family, I enjoy raising purebred livestock more than anything. I grew up a sharecropper’s son and a dirt farmer, milking cows, raising pigs, gathering chicken eggs. All of the land that is part of the ranch is land that I tilled by a tractor while I was growing up. I’m very thankful that I get to nourish this land and leave it more productive than I found it to our future generations of my family. Every day, when possible, I always check with Randa and John to see what’s going on at the ranch and at the Lookout Mountain Genetics Stud facility. It’s very important to me and Kelly that John and Randa know they have our support. I’m so proud just to know John and Randa and to see how hard they work EVERY DAY! I’ve seen them both miraculously save calves’ lives as well the mothers’ lives. John is a “Vet” without the paperwork; and to have Randa supporting him and loving him along with the beautiful granddaughter, HARPER ROSE, is a thing that makes me and Kelly so proud and thankful. I’ve always felt that the purebred business is so much about the people who raise them and the qualities of their character. Kelly and I were blessed to have John become part of our family. John was blessed with a beautiful wife, (our daughter) RANDA ROSANNE OWEN. Together, they make up a great team, and I hope that anyone interested in purchasing high-quality Hereford and Angus genetics will make plans to participate in our 34th Annual Dixieland Delight Production Sale. Kelly and I thank everyone who has ever worked here at the ranch or helped us maintain cattle that we feel will work for any prospective customers. We thank GOD for our family and for giving us the Freedom—FREEDOM that was fought and bled for by our brave men and women who have served our great country. We love and admire the ranchers and the farmers who make our country the envy of the world. We invite you to share in the greatest exercise in Freedom—being able to participate in this great industry that we call AGRICULTURE. If we can help in any way, let us know. Y’all come see us May 6th. God Bless,

DIXIELAND DELIGHT RED, WHITE & BLACK ANGUS & HEREFORD PRODUCTION SALE
It is with great excitement and anticipation that we invite you to our 34th Dixieland Delight Production Sale. To say that this past year has been challenging is an understatement. With the record drought we experienced in the Southeast last summer and fall, we have discovered a whole new meaning of the word John, Randa and Harper Starnes “challenging.” From the hay shortage, lack of rainfall, and extreme heat, our willpower and cattle were tested to a measure unlike any other we have experienced. With that being said, we are more proud of the cattle now more so than ever before. After a year like we had, the cattle in this offering are here for a reason! ey got the job done during some of the toughest times, and we could not ask for more. e genetics in this offering are backed by years and years of tough selection here at TRM. Our main focus is on balanced, functional cattle—the kind that flat work and have years of longevity bred into them. We believe that there is something for everyone with this offering, from the proven fall-calving cows to the up-and-coming future donor females and their stout bull mates. We are sure proud of the direction we are headed. We could not do what we do without the help of our parents, “Poppy, Mimi, Grandaddy and Nonnie,” and cousin Tyler Owen. We are a true “family” operation who works together doing what we love.

SALE MANAGER’S COMMENTS Dear Friends and Fellow Breeders, Welcome to the 34th Annual Dixieland Delight Sale at Tennessee River Music, Inc. e 2017 TRM sale again features the best of both breeds here at TRM, and I hope you will join us for this “Red, White and Black” Event. I would first like to thank Randy, Kelly, John, Randa and the rest of the TRM crew for again allowing me to assist them in the marketing of this exceptional set of cattle. John and Randa have embraced their role as parents to Harper and their management role here at TRM, and with the help of their crew, they have again assembled a tremendous offering. e presentation of these cattle is second to none. e 34th offering isn’t as large as it has been in recent years, but the quality runs deep. TRM has assembled a sound, functional set of cattle that excel in phenotype and individual performance while maintaining a strong genetic base with numerical balance and diversity. Whether you are simply adding to your herd, seeking a donor dam, a junior herd sire, or you’re looking for your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering. In the past six Junior National Hereford Shows, Tennessee River Music, Inc. has produced four division champions and five class winners along with a host of other heifers that have been toward the top of their classes; I feel like this set of heifer calves is the most impressive to date in terms of offering show ring and donor potential. TRM also produced a division champion at Louisville and Denver and the Champion Horned Heifer at the Southwest Regional Show from the 2015 sale. In the Angus division, the breed’s most notable sires and cow families are present in the pedigrees of a uniform set of exceptionally made females. e phenotype and performance present represent the TRM blueprint for a beef cow. For those of you who have not attended a TRM sale, you are in for a real treat. is is a family operation, and the hospitality and entertainment extended by the Owen family is like no other. ey work very hard on the presentation of the cattle, and you are sure to appreciate their efforts once you lay eyes on this exceptional offering. Please evaluate the needs of your operation and plan to join us Friday, May 5th to preview the cattle and Saturday, May 6th, for this great event. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions on either breed or if I can help you in any way. Sincerely, Matt Sims

In the 2016 Dixieland Delight Sale, 2/3 interest in a maternal brother to this heifer pregnancy sold for $30,000 to the Hammer Down Group, while a maternal sister heifer pregnancy by CHAC Mason was selected for $11,000 by GKB Cattle. In the 2015 Dixieland Delight Sale, the right to flush 2447 sold to Churchill for $18,500, while 1/2 interest in a maternal sister to Lot 1 sold for $17,000 to Bob Morris of Texas. • The $105,000-valued sire of this featured heifer pregnancy is the reigning Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Bull at the 2017 NWSS, NJW 79Z 22Z Mighty 49C ET. He combines moderate birth weight with performance, incredible thickness, width of top, huge stifle, a big hip and length of body. Owned by NJW, Perez Cattle Co. and Upstream Ranch. • Selling a guaranteed heifer pregnancy due October 2017.

• Lots 2A and 2B are sired by the popular 88X and out of one of the top donors at TRM. These sisters have been favorites on the farm since birth. Their powerful build and body type are in high demand by today’s judges while offering style and balance in a complete package. They are stout, thick made individuals whose width advantages start at their base and maintain to the top side of their skeleton. • Their dam is still in the herd at age 13 and is the mother of numerous feature females of past production sales. One of the best cow families to walk the pastures here at TRM! These heifers are maternal sibs to one of our lead donors, 1088, who constantly stamps her progeny with power and stoutness. • If you are looking for the front pasture type cow, don’t pass on this opportunity. This may be the last time a direct daughter of 4135 sells at public auction. • Dam posts progeny ratios of 7@112.1 for WW, 4@106.5 for YW and 3@107.7 for IMF. • A maternal sister to these females sells as Lot 11.

• These two lead heifers in the Angus division are flush sisters that are double bred to the foundation SAV May 2397 and feature a pedigree stacked with top-producing Pathfinder dams. They stem from SAV Emblynette 7319, who has generated over $750,000 in progeny sales. Their donor dam is also the dam of Lot 102. • The sire of these flush mate sisters, SAV Recharge 3436, was chosen by Select Sires AI Stud and partners as the $80,000 second lead bull from the 2014 SAV Sale. He is on the radar of the Angus world with unmatched performance and phenotype and backed by the best cows in the business. He offers the No. 1 EPD profile of the timeless Rito 707 performance lineage. He is a thick, muscular beef bull supreme with massive volume, dimension and natural fleshing ability—the look of a real cow maker. Recharge is docile natured with superior soundness and foot structure and large scrotal circumference. • This mating worked just as we had hoped. We think you will agree that these sisters are destined for great things. • Rank in the top 3% for Milk, top 5% for YW, top 10% for WW and top 15% for $W.

• We think Lot 103 is one of the top show and donor prospects in the sale. She combines femininity and eye appeal with the rib and mass we have come to expect from the 110 progeny. • Her sire, Conversation, is one of the most admired bulls in the Select Sires lineup. He is wide based and square hipped with tremendous depth of body plus a wide top and bold rib shape. • Maternal sisters to 6138 sold in the 2016 Dixieland Delight Sale to Burns Farms, Pikeville, TN, and to Jared Ray Aden, Saint Joseph, IL, for an impressive average of $5,125, while another maternal sister to Lot 103 by EXAR Denver sold to Pollard Farms in Oklahoma for $12,000 from our 2015 sale. • Ranks in the top 5% for RE, top 10% for CED and $W, top 20% for BW and top 25% for Milk and $B. • Sells open.

The dam of Lots 103 and 104, CF Fly Bis 110, was the $44,000-valued top selling Angus female in the 2015 Dixieland Delight Sale. She is a beautiful and powerful donor that is a direct daughter of the Pathfinder Sire and bull that led the breed for registrations, SAV Bismarck 5682, back to a daughter of the Pathfinder and ABS Global sire Mytty In Focus and back to the Pathfinder granddam CF Fly Plus 2906. 110 is one of the very best SAV Bismarck 5682 daughters in existence with a tremendous number scheme and impeccable phenotype. This absolute powerhouse had an individual birth ratio of 95, weaning ratio of 106 and stems from a dam that records WR 2@107. We feel these females are carbon copies of their powerful dam. Lots 103 and 104 offer balance and eye appeal without sacrificing maternal strength. Their added dimension and broodiness suggest long-term value and true return on investment. Whether enhancing your herd’s visual quality or adding to your donor program, here are two females you don’t want to miss.
