BEHIND THE SCENES
i
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR As the fresh dew settles on the blooming buds, the trees regain their fervor, the summer vibes kick in and we individuals begin to feel the freshness of spring creeping onto us. Spring remains the season of nature as we begin to feel the essence of every moving, breathing and living aspect surrounding us. In this issue, we intend on grasping this reality and exploring it in the most realistic and natural way. As nature begins to take an increasingly important role in the 21st century, our focus shifts towards sustainability and natural products. In this issue of Transpose we hope to explore the growing importance of sustainable development and fashion. Our “Keeping it Natural” photoshoot highlights the power of natural beauty in humans as we offset the use of make-up on all models. We also explore the power of the color green in our “Color of the Year 2017” article by Chushi Guo and Alvaro Carias doesn’t forget to reiterate the thriving world of sustainable fashion in his article “Sustainability: The Future of the Fashion Industry”.
In this issue we also delve into healthy eating habits explored by Julia Duraffourd in her article “Why Green Juice has become more than just a trend.” We also discover the many forgotten natural beauty tips that are passed down to us from generation to generation. Alex reveals to us the ultimate gym routines that if followed to the core, will not fail us in our attempt at attaining the perfect body. Through this issue, we intend on transposing our readers’ perspective on health, nature, beauty and sustainability and enlightening them on the myriad of different possibilities to realize a healthier, fulfilling life that connects us to our natural surroundings. To conclude, I would like to give a special thanks to Chama Jemmali (Photography and Modeling Director) and Naila Hawach (Graphic Designer and Creative & Design Director) for their sincere and relentless effort in making this magazine a true success. I would also like to congratulate our sponsorship team in obtaining our two loyal sponsors: Pedralbes Center and Naulover. Sharvani Shakambari Editor-in-Chief

Environmental sustainability By Blu Aragones
EVOLVING OUR APPROACH OF PERCEIVING NATURE Nature does not need us to survive but we do need nature. We cannot be ourselves without this planet yet we take it for granted, like many other things in our lives. On one hand, what all species have in common is that they must adapt to be able to survive. On the other hand, a fundamental factor that differentiates humans from other species is that change does not only come from the inside but also from the outside. Instead of transforming themselves, for centuries, humans have transformed their own reality into a more habitable one, to ensure survival. This alteration of reality does not take into account the flora, fauna or even other humans who are not profiting from the survival conditions. The main problem is that we, as individuals of the human race, have a huge complex of superiority and it is this kind of mind-set that does not allow us to progress from being primitive beings. We behave like animals however we are below that because instead of functionally contributing and harmonically being part of the symbiosis of ecosystems, we take what we want and we destroy them. We are like cancer for the Earth and right now we are at the peak moment of metastasis. Yet this does not mean there is no cure. When we produce ideas, these influence our acts and therefore who we are. It seems to be that there is a contagious idea/instinct running through the modern world and that is to take all you can because if you can, it means you deserve it. If we constantly define ourselves as superior beings due to our elevated state of consciousness, then why do we still behave like savages?
10
I’m sure that many are aware of the fact that we are living in an era of mass extinction yet we are barely doing anything to change things. If we don´t want to belong to the category of animals, then we must not make the same mistake as the baboon who eats all the berries and has non left. We are consuming scarce resources and using them to exponentially increase demographic growth, which then leads to more consumption and more growth entering a negative spiral of debt with the planet which gave us life.
Relevant Data
Rainforests only cover around 2% of the total surface area of the Earth, but really about 50% of the flora & fauna on the earth live in the rainforest. Tropical Rainforests store more than 210 gigatons of carbon and deforestation is the cause of 15% of carbon emissions. If rainforests continue to decline at this pace, then about 5%-10% of their species will go extinct every 10 years.
What can we do?
There are many things we can do but the first I would say is to learn to appreciate the fruits of nature. After this we will know how to vote with our wallets. We can´t put our money in banks with no awareness of where that money is going to be invested (Dakota-Pipeline financed by big banks etc‌) to be able to give you a deposit interest rate. We have to put our money in places where there will be positive externalities. We are all in this together and if we keep having a mind-set of discrimination then we will never be able to unite our forces to heal the thing we all share in common, the Earth.

SUSTAINABILITY the future of the fashion industry By Álvaro Carias
N
owadays, the word “sustainability” has become the talk of the town. In fact, as climate change awareness has been on the rise, the topic has been acquiring global attention and now carries political implications. From local governments to the United Nations, the consensus is that our planet is at a very high risk. Indeed, this situation has been causing important changes in several industries, amongst the many are the textile, manufacturing and fashion sectors. These industries are actually as responsible as other highly polluting sectors and play an important role in our daily existence.
12
But what is sustainability? It depends upon whom you ask. The UN states that sustainability represents a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. I would personally define it as a system in which the human activity develops itself at a local scale while it does not interfere in the recreation of the natural environment. For the last few years, sustainability meant focusing only on environmental issues where firms were forced to be “sustainable in order to have a good corporate image worldwide. Indeed, all major companies have been hard-pressed to improve their methods of production in order to reduce the environmental impact of the products they supply. The food industry for instance underwent changes when major players in the market launched projects to tackle increasing amounts of waste that they generated each year. The Fashion industry however has been the frontrunner in creating a movement towards genuine change by championing social and humanitarian concerns. These changes however did not come automatically; the issue of exploitation in the clothing industry became a prominent issue, which is still far from being rectified today. Ethical fashion represents an approach to the design, sourcing and manufacturing of clothing, which maximizes benefits to people and communities while minimizing impact on the environment. If we are to focus on the fashion industry, there is a growing movement towards responsible and sustainable disciplines. The goal of which is to create a system that can be supported indefinitely in terms of both environment and social responsibility and that still maintains the current business models. Eco fashion however does not come without its challenges, in an industry solely based on image; the ethical issues are often overlooked in order to produce the trendiest and most fashionable products.

Diletta Couture strives
iletta Couture
to highlight the bodily
is a newly established fashion brand which aims to provide women with beautiful clothing, tailored to their bodies. T his twenty-year old Italian aspiring designer, born in Italy’s fashion capital, to an architect and a light designer, has created a company which aims to help people feel comfortable and beautiful within their own bodies. Growing up, surrounded by aesthetic beauty and creativeness, she always thrived to create something of her own. Unsatisfied with simply admiring luxury dresses, which were unaffordable to her, she decided to replicate the beauty of contemporary trends in the fashionable elite all over the world, while giving it her own twist. Who wouldn’t want to wear the dress of a Hollywood star without paying an exorbitant amount of money? At 16 she began to shape the brand. After some bumps along the road, people around her started to see some potential in her work, encouraging her to pursue her passion. By creating fitted, handmade dresses for specific occasions, Diletta Couture has become a versatile label, appearing in different styles: ranging from elegant gowns for grand occasions, to mini dresses for parties.
features which each woman loves the most about herself. How did you learn to make dresses? “I just tried. I do know however, that I have not fully grasped the enormity of the tailoring world’s knowledge. I am just trying to teach myself some basic techniques.”
Where does the inspiration come from? “My inspiration comes from trying to highlight what I like about my body, while taking inspiration from magazines and social media.”
How is the fabric chosen? “Up until today, I have always chosen fabric with two main criteria in mind; the elasticity, and how the weight of the fabric accompanies the lines of the model’s body. I think these are very important factors when trying to create a dress, from my mind. If I imagine a bodycon dress it requires an elastic fabric, whereas if I’m trying to make a bandeau dress I must concentrate on the draping, on how heavy a fabric is.”
However, there is more to it…. In contrast to most fashion brands, Diletta Couture aims to re-establish the meaning of beauty by proclaiming our bodily diversities as beautiful and something that should be valued, prioritized and costumed for. To put it simply, how many times have you looked at a dress in a magazine with admiration, to then discover it doesn’t fit with your body shape. Luxury fashion brands present us with beautiful garments, which convey their full splendor by wonderfully contouring the model’s body. The same dress will not necessarily frame all bodies in the same way, due to the overwhelming uniqueness of each woman. Diletta herself has come to face this reality. Diletta Couture strives to highlight the bodily features which each woman loves the most about herself. With some imagination, a bit of creativity and some expert help, any woman can feel truly beautiful.
Plans for the future? As soon as I’m able to, I’ll take a real course in cutting and I’ll intern at a big fashion brand to get a grip of the industry that I’m stepping into. After all this, the plan is to invest all my time and money into growing this flower, for which I have only just planted the seeds. But I guess you wanted to know what are the plans for the future of Diletta: well, definitely continuing to produce and hopefully start an online e-commerce before going big.

TRIP
MOSCOW 26
By Juliette Delanoy
M
oscow, the political, economic and cultural capital of the immense and powerful country of Russia, was always known for the diversity of its population and the wealth of its culture. Today more than ever, the cultural activities are expanding with new forms of art and entertainment. It is an exiting time to visit this city that manages to combine modernity and tradition. Are you planning to spend a few days in Moscow? Let’s see what are the amazing things to do!
It’s an exiting time to visit the city that manages to combine modernity and tradition.
DAY 1 You should definitely start your trip by visiting the Red Square, emblematic symbol of Moscow. It is a mix of historical influences with the medieval roots of Russia represented by Saint Basil’s Cathedral; and at the same time, you can feel the influence of communism with Lenin’s Mausoleum. The ideal is to spend a few hours to see all the different monuments and also have a coffee at the Bosco Bar to admire the view. Then, you can walk through the Kremlin and take some time at the Moscow Kremlin Museums. It is the centre of the Russian political power and use to be the centre of the Orthodox Church.
DAY 2 One of the best places to visit is the Gallery of European & American Art of the 19th & 20th Centuries that brings together European Impressionist works such as paintings by Degas, Manet or Renoir. It is based on the collection of two well-known Moscow art patrons. After that, you should have a look at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Completed in 1997, it is amazingly opulent and garishly grandiose. The best spot to admire this splendid monument is at the Strelka Bar during sunset.
27
DAY 3 Moscow has another Kremlin, located in the east. There, you can find a market, the Izmaylovo Market, where you can buy various Russian products, and also great souvenirs such as Russian dolls and Putin mugs! The Bolshoi Theatre is also a must see in Moscow. The guided tour is deeply recommended and it will allow you to see behind the scenes, in particular the impressive costumes room.
DAY 4 To end your stay, you should enjoy the Gorky Park, the main escape from the urban jungle, located in the heart of the city. It provides activities such as cycling, rollerblading, extreme sports, and in the winter, the park turns into the city’s biggest ice-skating rink.
LET’S HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR STAY IN THIS BEAUTIFUL CITY! 28

EUNOIA - FROM THE GREEKΑ; “BEAUTIFUL THINKING”. A storytelling initiative focused on
empowering, reinventing and redefining the way to share others’ stories. The cheerful smile of the bus driver. The girl looking out through the window curiously. The small kid making funny faces. The man sitting next to you on the flight you took yesterday. All those who walk by your side on the packed street… You may not see it or even feel it. All those moments and experiences are connected. All these people are related to you through a thin, but also powerful, red thread which surrounds us everywhere, every day. And we know the idea might seem absurd and we don’t blame you. But keep reading, we will not deceive you. This red thread, that connects us, helps us and guides us to the unexpected but exact place where we want to reach and meet those we intend to, is the one that has silently brought you here, the one that has made you stop flipping through the pages of this magazine and made your fingers stay on this page. The one, which now, connects you with us, Eunoia. Eunoia is magic, heart and brain. Three basic elements which define its essence. Three enthusiastic souls who made it real.
51
The Magic, our capacity to understand and perform ideas creatively, passionately and courageously. The heart, the piece which connects each project with values, with people’s feelings and emotions. The brain, the one who knows perfectly and wisely the way to get the message across people. We are a passionate team, we want to learn from each other and untiringly develop ourselves, our desire is to be able to confront all the challenges we might undertake. And that’s why we decided to take the plunge, to overcome and reinvent ourselves by means of love, creativity and passion. The step forward finally became the beginning of something big, something meaningful.
But, what are we aiming for?
People who want to share, to demonstrate and to teach others from their own stories and personal experiences. We adapt each story to the needs of the one who relates to it, reflecting it in the form of visual aids, the creation of events or even marketing campaigns (amongst others).
But Eunoia is not only work but also vocation. Therefore, we aim to make people’s stories part of ours, by being part of them, by understanding and living them. Since it has become something meaningful and with purpose, it has also become part of our lives, part of us. The steps that we take forward might not be the most accurate ones, but as we face them, we learn and improve ourselves.
ILUSIÓN+ is one of them. It is a social project whose main objective is to give voice to people affected by neurodegenerative diseases such as ELA (feel free to have a look at their website www.ilusionmas.com). Between several collaborations we are handling now, we are also carrying out the organization of a wedding taking part in September 2017. Eunoia has risen with hope and illusion. We see the future as a new opportunity to keep moving forward and spreading our notion of the red thread and the idea that everyone and everything is connected. We are aware, in any case, that the path is not going to be easy as the course of ideas changes. But from now on, we’ll doubtlessly keep moving forward. Do not underestimate the power of the red thread, as maybe it’s time for you to find your story and now, think about it again.
We know that our possibilities are limitless and we want to exploit them. From how the idea became real up to how people get involved every day, Eunoia is something captivating. As we are young and creative, our approach to working techniques is different and, therefore, we radiate positive energy to the ones who work with us and are willing to share their stories with us. Because every perspective is important, we try to develop new ideas and new scopes to be able to reinvent ourselves .
Maybe it’s not a coincidence any more, maybe it’s not just as simple as it sounds. Maybe, the red threat is behind everything, behind all these words.
Currently, we are working on projects which involve many different kind of products and goals, as we are innovative, we do not narrow down our options to any specific market. We want to face challenges to be able to overcome and experience all sorts of adventures.
LET’S TURN ALL THOSE MAYBES INTO WHAT MAY BE YOUR STORY, OUR STORY.

UNHEARD ALBUMS OF 2016 By Marc Mesnard
Oyabun EP & Fort Bellefleur by Folamour The French DJ & Producer started 2016 with Oyabun EP produced by his label Moonrise Hill Material. The EP includes four mind-blowing tracks, all unique to one another. Folamour is known for his elaborate and melodic tunes, and Oyabun EP serves as a perfect demonstration for that. Later that year, he released Fort Bellefleur five loose and toasty tracks. He proved to us that he masters the art of live instrumentation, choice samples and swinging deep house beats. You’ll notice it all by listening to ‘You Never Told Me I’ll Miss U That Much’ with some amazing guitar parts and hazy chords. Personal favourites: Novalaise, La Pierre Et Le Sabre, Just A Lonely Night Eating Sushis, Lampadaire.
Tao Te Ching EP by Skibs Skibs surprised us in December with a new and innovative EP, Tao Te Ch i ng. The rapper was born in NY and raised in Hong Kong, which explains his wide musical influences. Though the EP was recorded in the Queens concrete jungle, we can notice some Asian influences and features. Tao Te Ching is an ancient Chinese spiritual book written by Laozi. All of the songs on the EP are entitled to a quote from Tao Te Ching. The songs tell stories and simultaneously take you on a spiritual, inward journey towards your thoughts. Only available on Soundcloud. Personal favourites: A Man With Outward Courage Dares To Die, To Understand The Limitation of Things.

Malibu by Anderson Paak In mid April Anderson Paak presented us Malibu, an album full of deep and soulful music with a wide variety of styles. He leapfrogs three eras in a festive suite of songs, 60s soul with Put Me Thru; club grooves in Am I Wrong; and 90s hiphop in Without You. His musical and emotional generosity ties up everything together, making Malibu an expansive opus that flows in multiple directions like a classic 70s double album. He is part of the line up of Sónar 2017. Personal favourites: Heart Don’t Stand A Chance, Put Me Thru, Come Down.
Light Upon The Lake by Whitney Little by little Whitney is creating its own enchanting universe with its warm and melodic compositions. To give you an idea of what kind of music this band makes imagine a fuzzy soft folk-rock with some 70s influence. A round bass, some subtle chords and brass arrangements, a high pitch voice and a tilt of soul makes Light Upon The Lake the perfect CD to listen to on a faded Sunday afternoon. Personal favourites: No woman, Polly, Golden Days, Light Upon The Lake
Second To None by Al Zanders Second To None, the third EP of the British producer is a pure gift to house music. However, only two tracks are available on free download (A Story of.., and Second to none) while the rest is available on Redeyerecord’s web page for nine euros, but they are totally worth it. Zanders still offered a couple of singles throughout the year, and somehow managed to put a little bit of gold in everything he made. Sample various and diverse sounds, mixed with beautiful melodic chords, with a few jam/improvised parts over some light percussions and you got a Zander’s track, of course he has that special touch which makes him so special… Personal favourites: Dexter’s Morning, Raíz, Ripley’s Voyage.

Jade Bird Jade Bird is a rising star on the London music scene, delivering a fantastic mix of country, pop and folk with a voice that can silence the busiest bar. She has a charm that melts the hardest heart and her exceptional songwriting talent ensures Jade is destined for the spotlight. 56
Top 3 favorite songs of the moment.
Gillian Welch - Look at Miss Ohio Kurt Vile - Pretty Pimpin’ Steeldrivers - Can you run
What are your favorite hobbies besides making music? I like to write, poems little stories etc (nerd)... and I must say I’m a bit of a gamer girl, I grew up with computer games so that’s a thing for me... I can’t say sleeping here can I?
If you could tour anywhere in the world where would it be?
Ooh. America, and hopefully that’ll be happening very soon a little birdy told me (see what I did there ;) ).
What was the tip that a teacher ever gave you?
I once had a brilliant Russian piano teacher who told me to practice even without a piano you just envision the keys if you can’t get to one.
Your favorite song (from your songs) and its meaning to you.
“Who wants”, it’s actually about a couple that stay together out of convenience, despite there being no love there anymore - almost a commentary around a time they’d probably put the divorce papers out. It’s quite relevant to a few situations I’ve seen, my family’s not had much luck with the old marriage thing ;) - plenty of divorces to justify a song!
Could you describe the moment when you realized that you wanted to be a singer?
Possibly at 3 whilst belting Shania Twain’s “Man I feel like a woman” haha, or maybe when Avril Lavigne’s album came out ;). In all seriousness I think when songwriting became a bit of a vice, singing came with that. It’s important for me that I become a great artist overall, and I’ve known since being very young that’s what I wanted to be.
What was your favorite moment while supporting Tom Odell in the last tour?
Milan! All the dates were incredible but that one was really something special. It was probably the biggest crowd I’ve ever played to, and I could have sworn almost everyone in that room listened which is an incredible feat!! I’d do that show 100x over (including the bit where I spilt water all over myself).
If you could describe your music in a word what would it be? One word!! ... hmm. Real. (I hope that doesn’t sound too pretentious) ha!

Watches: A Timeless Piece By Lorenzo Masiello
If you ever wondered which accessory to wear but you couldn’t decide whether to buy a bracelet, a ring, a watch, a pair of cufflinks or a necklace you should always choose watch first. Why? Because watches represent the obsession of the human being to control the unstoppable marching of time and not only reflects the result of a personal choice but also a story to tell, especially when it is a vintage watch. Everybody chooses a wrist jewel that best suits their personality and is not a random choice. Having said that, before we start, I must say that we are going to have a look only at high- end watch brands. They will come with a brief description of the type of person that wears it, in order to make it easier for you to find your perfect piece. We could go on with this list for a while with other notorious brands, but I want you to discover for yourself the rest of this amazing, luxurious world.
ROLEX Created for men and women who know they can do no wrong with a watch from this legendary brand. When you’ve achieved something in life, then you can reward yourself with something expensive. People who wear this watch want a watch that looks as good with their suit as with their swimsuit on the beach.
58
PATEK PHILIPE For those who drive a big Mercedes and an old Jaguar and have been an avid newspaper reader since they were 16 and now earn a ridiculous salary from a very serious profession. In order to satisfy their perfectionism, they are very disciplined in their routine and expect the same high standard from those around them.
PANERAI Italian Brand. Perfect for the ones that are former hipsters who probably mastered the best skateboard tricks and now escape from their jobs in an advertisement agency to the world’s most buzzing urban scenes on the weekends.
59
BREITLING Its wearer understands good business and started early with it. During his school years, he was already selling printed T-shirts and several hard-to-find products. Shortly thereafter he/she progressed to a modest company: used cars with lots of horsepower, mobile phones or opening a small gym. He has a very dominant personality.
JAEGERLECOULTRE These veritable watches send a message from the wrists of the last gentlemen who honors tradition and technical perfection. These educated wearers maintain a distinct style that is distinguished by attention to quality. That’s why they very consciously choose this watch. The classic elements of these watches are particularly appealing because they can be worn again and again.
60
HUBLOT If you were looking for a more sportive watch you will absolutely fall in love with Hublot. Normally those who wear it, are dressed in polo shirts bearing conspicuous brand names as La Martina and similar brands. Opulent belts from Louis Vuitton girdle the waistlines of these relaxed men of independent means, and the long, thin hair gives these human billboards the final touch. But watch out: there’s a young generation of these guys, too. You’ll recognize them by their presumptuous grins, tattoos on their muscular arms, and their penchant for lively champagne parties.
TAG HEUER Lastly, we will have a look at a watch for the ones who love to have that feeling of adrenaline going through their veins. Fans of Tag Heuer overcome their limits. Even if it’s just a stroll through the neighbors’ garden to get to their own HD TV. With hooded shirts and a cap bearing the TAG Heuer logo, these price-conscious watch wearers enjoy observing car racing and space expeditions on pay-per-view and don’t need much else.

Although it can be tough to handle at first as you’re confronted to real pauperism in a country where laws are quite different, it is by far one of the most enriching experiences that exist. Additionally, outside the volunteering experience, you get the chance to meet amazing people from all over the world. By those people, I mean other volunteers, the families that offer their houses, the people in the institutions and the program coordinators. All of those people are gathered for the same goal and passion: making improvements in a society where things are not always easy and forming a community solely dedicated to help and to share love. Finally, I think it is one of the best ways to travel because you actually see all sides of the country. Indeed, when I travel with my family, I generally go to touristic places that are kind of Europeanized. The thing is, it’s not representative of the country you’re visiting. During this humanitarian trip, I was staying in San Miguel (district of Lima) which is considered as a middle class neighborhood where tourists don’t usually go. Thus, I was really in touch with the local people/shops and the Peruvian culture. To my mind, this is what travelling is all about. To briefly sum up, don’t be scared to go out of your comfort zone, be aware that there’s a different world outside and dare to make an impact.

Do, re, mi…dance, study, run and feel. Music grows, not only with notes, but also inside a person’s soul. A sheet of music is not only notes written randomly in a staff but is also a poem; notes flow with a rhythm that is studied up to the last sharp or flat; the horizontal and vertical structure is measured at its finest. This complex language is extraordinary because of its impact on people’s feelings. It has been a long time since I started studying music and I have understood how to study a sheet of music (not only the notes, but also the interpretation). I started by practicing with my mother, with children’s songs, and then I went on to a specialized academy. And a few years later, I started creating my own songs. I have discovered the art of creation. With a keyboard you can make the most romantic song ever and simultaneously indulge in a stressful one! What I find really interesting is discovering the world behind this art. I strongly recommend delving into this art form as it helps you understand hits from nowadays such as the ones from Enrique Iglesias or older ones from The Beatles. I have a strong relationship with music; music can make me feel strong and also weak. I go running with music. I listen to music while studying. I dance with music and play music while my friends are dancing. My soul awakens when the strings go through a chord or an arpeggio…do, re, mi.

FOR THE LOVE OF SKIING By Aleksi Takala
Back country skiing
Le Grand Bornand
Le Grand Bornand is surrounded by mountains that are not accessible by ski lifts. However, there are some famous ski touring routes that my father and I like to cover towards the end of the season.
A real skiers paradise
L’haute Savoie is an area in the French Alps, a one hour drive from Geneva. It holds several of the world’s greatest ski resorts including Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz, Manigod, and leads up to the ultimate skiers mecca- Chamonix. My family and I have spent nearly every winter weekend on the slopes of Le Grand Bornand for the past ten years, and can now call ourselves a part of the ski community there. This has permitted us to slowly find all the hidden gems of the place.
Dining & Après Ski
There is a vast array of restaurants that offer local foods and drinks - lots of cheese, meat, and beautiful wines and ciders. La Bournerie, Le Chalet des Outalays, and Le Chalet du Maroly all offer great local foods like a tartiflette, a fondue savoyarde, or even a burger from the Alps. Genepi is a digestive that is locally made out of the Genepi flower, and is the perfect way to finish any lunch or dinner. The après ski scene in Le Grand Bornand is rather tame for French standards, possibly because it is the destination for many day skiers who come up in the morning and leave in the afternoon. Regardless, sitting on the porch of our chalet with a gin and tonic to finish the day can be much more satisfying than dancing on tables in an après ski club.
The Slopes
Skiing is the main attraction of Le Grand Bornand, and is what keeps the local economy running during the winter. La Clusaz is a more famous resort and is also the home of freeski legend Candide Thovex. It is only a 15-minute drive away from Le Grand Bornand and drags the masses of tourists away, leaving Le Grand Bornand significantly less crowded. This greatly improves the quality of skiing for those who ski in Le Grand Bornand because of smaller lift lines and more untouched snow on powder days. Forty lifts allow you to access a wide array of different terrains around the resort, providing everything from high-alpine spines comparable to some of the gnarliest runs in Chamonix, to world class slope skiing, and beautiful tree runs through forests. The micro climate created by the cold valleys that receive minimal sunlight during the winter months means that there is snow nearly always and that every year we get a handful of super deep powder days. Those are the days that provide me motivation to ski when the stress hits. Usually I spend most of my time hot lapping the “Zone-Freeride” down from the highest point called Le Mont Lachat. Otherwise skiing down onto the Col Des Annes from the Col Du Maroly gives great off-track runs. The snow park has some incredibly technical lines to offer for those who want to catch massive airs from the perfectly shaped kickers.

okyo street fashion is a world renowned social phenomenon which is constantly evolving and has been recorded and studied extensively. On the one hand, it houses some of the most outrageous subcultures in the world, which are most prominent in the neighbourhood of Harajuku. Loose fits are in. This means a whole array of pantsuits, culottes and trench coats in muted or earthy colours. Footwear is an important part of style and commodity especially when most people get around by foot. Platform shoes are all the rage, combining the convenience of sneakers with the added height. Sports shoes, ankle boots and loafers are also common. Creepers are the way to go for an added edge. Garments these days tend to come in black and white and outfits lean towards the monochromatic. Key Places to visit in Mallorca
By Josep Oliver Juan
The City of Palma
Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands, and “the best place to live in the world” according to The Times. A walk along the waterfront walls of the city is sure to provide some awe-inspiring views of the sea and the Cathedral, which is a must see both on the inside and out. The city’s skyline is dotted with many enchanting churches and palatial manors, each more beautiful than the last. Palma’s charming historic streets will surely satisfy all of your cultural and shopping needs. For some excellent views make sure to visit the historic castle of Bellver which overlooks the entire bay and provides an excellent vintage point of the city and neighbouring mountains. Palma also provides a vibrant nightlife scene.
Valldemossa
Famous for its privileged location and enchanting streets lined with flower pots, the village of Valldemossa is a favourite among travellers. Revered pianist Frederic Chopin famously chose the area as a vacation spot and so have many other celebrities since. The monastery of La Cartoixa where Chopin stayed is a must see sight. While in town, it is essential to try some coques de patata buns coupled with hot chocolate or a drink of your choice. It serves as a wonderful pit stop on the way to many beautiful beaches scattered along the northern mountainous coastline.
78
The Valley of Sóller
Burrowed deep in the mountains, Sóller is one of the most unique villages the island has to offer. It is a cultural and artistic hub and it serves as the starting point for many breath taking mountain treks. You may take the famous century old train to get there if desired. The nearby villages of Fornalutx and Biniaraix serve to complete a perfect outing in the valley of Sóller. To top it all, head out to the port for a meal in one of its wonderful restaurants.
Sa Calobra
Nestled between the mountains and the sea, Sa Calobra is one of Mallorca’s most iconic coves. Located at the mouth of a torrential brook, if the weather permits, one may traverse the deep ravine to access it. On the other hand, the winding road that leads to the cove provides some stunning sights of the mountains. Whatever way you access this location, be it by sea or by land, the destination is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
79
Crystalline Beaches of the South
Majorca is well known for its many beaches of white sand and turquoise water and some of the most awe inspiring ones are located in the south and east of the island. Some run on for kilometres along sandy dunes and forests such as Es Trenc or Es Carbó whereas others are smaller and dug deep into the coastline nestled in between bare rockfaces such as Caló des Moro or Caló des Màrmols. Whichever you pick you just can’t go wrong.
Cap de Formentor
The northernmost point in Mallorca is located at the lighthouse of Formentor, bound by staggering cliffs and gifted with spectacular views of the Tramuntana mountain range and the island of Menorca. This is one of if not the best point on the island to observe the burning summer sunsets. On the way to the lighthouse is Cala Figuera, one of my favourite coves and the perfect place to take a dip on a sizzling hot day.
Mountains of Llevant
Lesser known are the mountains of the Levantine (eastern) region of the island, which provide a unique hiking destination. This beautiful mountain range offers idyllic views over the island and the surroundings to the west and the twinkling lights of Menorca to the east. Make a stop at the towns of Artà and Capdepera to visit their charming medieval fortresses before heading on to one of the many hidden beaches along the coastline. This area is perfect for horse riding, a popular sport on the island) and hiking thanks to its vast landscapes and untouched dunes.

Everything started when I was 13. My parents wanted me to learn French, so I went to a surf camp in Marseille. It was then when I realized that surf was my sport. So, going to surf camps in the summer and Easter became a routine. But my passion grew even more. Now I am a surf instructor and whenever possible I surf with my family and friends. When I’m on the surfboard cathing waves, I forget about the world. All the problems rest on the sand. It’s the best sport to distress and it helps me keep fit!!

Gender
in
By Elena AndrĂŠs
Not Just a Women’s Issue For those who do not know what these two words mean, gender inequality is the process by which people are treated differently under the same circumstances on the basis of gender. With the current political, economic and social events this issue needs more attention than ever. The day we are born we do not choose our sex. We grow up and everyone around us feels like they have the power to tell us how we should be and how we should behave. We are educated in an environment that is based on the differences between boys and girls. Boys play sports while girls play with their dolls. Boys are taught that they have to be strong while girls are taught that they have to be pretty. These stereotypes are part of our everyday life and we do not realize most of them. This creates various issues among our society like close-mindedness. We are discriminated on the basis of our sex, something we cannot choose and cannot control. We forget that there is a difference between what you are born with and how you feel. This is the difference between sex and gender. Sex describes your biological organs while gender describes the characteristics that society attributes to the sexes. Our world is constantly changing and we have done a lot of progress, but it is not enough. According to the UN, women we will not reach gender equality until 2095. The president of the US has abused women. A deputy of the European Union has declared that women are weaker, smaller and less intelligent and that is why they have to earn less than men. Women are not allowed to make decisions about their own bodies. In Sierra
marriage and pregnancy among kids is very common. In Saudi Arabia women cannot walk around the streets without a man. The rates of women being murdered by their male partners are alarming. Every half an hour a woman is raped in India. In Thailand you can buy a sexual slave for just 100 euros. In Russia domestic violence is not penalized. Denmark, Finland and Sweden have the highest rates of gender violence in Europe. In the US, 8 out of every 10 girls suffer from sexual abuse at their school, high school or university. In Spain women earn 30% less than men for doing the same job and 3 out of 10 women suffer from genderbased violence. Gender violence is the main cause of death among women between the age of 15 and 44 all around the world. Men are constantly reminded that they have to hide their feelings. Little boys are told not to cry and suppress their fear. They are taught that being a man means having power over someone and being extremely successful. This only sets them up for failure. When men lack a healthy way to express their feelings it often turns inward in the form of depression or suicide. In the UK, suicide is the main cause of death among men between the age of 20 and 34. When men’s emotions turn outwards it is often deadly so they are more likely to commit acts of violence. Gender equality is good for everyone because it affects everyone. It is a liberation movement for all genders. We have to fight to break the stereotypes and social norms that are still present today. It is about giving people a voice and choice. Not until we achieve it, will we be free and equal.

Brands In Politics: Implicit Responsibility Or Unnecessary Risk? By Adriana Crovetto
Brand values take on new significance after Trump election victory Brand values are taking on new significance for costumer goods manufacturers in the US, as well as in Europe. The elections of Donald Trump, has polarized a lot of public attention and sparked off a wave of social need to take position in politics. Brands today are clearly starting to be vocal about their values as millennials are beginning to demand more from an employer then just a career and salary. Costumers are pushing brands to be more transparent about everything, from what went into their product to how they interact with the local political vision. After the release of the Super Bowl CocaCola commercial championing diversity and the Budweiser ad depicting an immigrant chasing the American dream a lot of other major brands have begun to engage in this highly sensitive corporate and social environment. Whether it is Starbucks’s repudiation of the executive order banning immigration from seven countries, Uber’s chief executive stepping down from Mr. Trump’s business advisory group following a boycott, or Nordstorm’s move to abandon Ivanka Trump’s fashion line, brand values have been inadvertently politicised.
88
Companies are being forced to take a stance – populist or liberal – whether they want to take a step for one’s respective fight or not. “Americans now are using brands as a mechanism to fight with each other. They’re becoming the weapons in the social war” - Financial Times reports Thomas Ordhal, chief strategy officer at Landor, a branding consultancy. “Consumerism meets political activism”. Just some in the fashion industry have taken a stand. As stated by Business of Fashion’s founder and CEO Imran Amed in her editorial, Von Furstenberg, a Belgian stylist and entrepreneur said: “The fashion industry has always been a reflection of what America is all about... inclusion and diversity.” And scores of industry professionals — IMG’s Ivan Bart, models Gigi and Bella Hadid and casting director James Scully — participated in political protests, which they shared on Instagram. But, the vast majority of large fashion companies still preferred to stay silent, as confirmed by Imran Amed. There was a time when big businesses and their high profile executives were expected to remain neutral on political issues.
But the nature of today’s political agendas, including Brexit negotiations and EU countries’ upcoming elections makes it clear: now is not that time. Increasingly, consumers want to feel that their dollars support businesses that reflect their personal values, whether it’s buying ecoconscious products or spending extra forMade in America/Spain/Italy. But a wildly divisive administration has the potential to codify our retail choices in unprecedented ways. Increasingly, consumers want to feel that their dollars support businesses that reflect their personal values, whether it’s buying eco-conscious products or spending extra for Made in America/Spain/ Italy. But a wildly divisive administration has the potential to codify our retail choices in unprecedented ways. Combining brand power and politics is tricky but it also something they can turn to their advantage, industry experts say, even if they come into conflict with the White House policy. “It’s a chance to come good and stay consistent”, states Mr Edelman chief executive of the eponymous public relations consultancy. “Not just making money but standing up for values and standing up for what consumers expect of them.” This then raises the question: What happens when a brand aligns itself with political sentiments that it does not appear to necessarily uphold?
A recent example is automaker, Audi – another brand that had a politically themed advertisement during the last Super Bowl; the ad focused on pay inequality between men and women in the US, and ends with copy that reads, “Audi of America is committed to equal pay for equal work. Progress is for everyone. #DriveProgress.”
“
Americans now are using brands as a mechanism to fight with each other. They’re becoming the weapons in the social war
”
89
Expectedly, the ad roused controversy: apparently Audi’s executive team in America is overwhelmingly homogeneous, only two of 14 executives are women, and only one is not white. In such an instance, the seriousness of such a prominent political statement is not the only thing that is undermined; the brand’s credibility also comes into question.
Brands have a moral and social responsibility to take political stances – stances that benefit the societies in which their businesses operate. Taking a stance also presents a real opportunity to connect with consumers on issues that matter to them, and thereby foster brand popularity and loyalty. This is the rise of the political brand. Politics and brands are clashing right now. But maybe some good can come out of this because businesses will have to properly think about transparency, and will be compelled to take a position and have a point of view.
How To Travel For Cheap? Everyone wants to travel right?…I mean, I could do that all the time! Travelling from place to place is wonderful but can be very pricey… Not anymore though! Here are some ways for you to travel for cheap! First of all plan your trip ahead of time, don’t leave everything for the last minute. My recommendation would be to make a list of what you need in order to travel at that specific place and what you’ll do once you are there. It will help you make an approximate budget (including accommodation fees, transportation, food, entertainment). After having this all figured out, book your flight and housing! The sooner the cheaper. The best would be to travel during low seasons to minimize the price of the flight. Otherwise, low-cost carriers are good enough (eg: Ryanair, Vueling). You should know that Ryanair flight tickets are cheapest on Thursday nights. (You’ll thank me for that later). Moreover, you can download the application « Hopper » that will tell you when prices for a destination are most likely to be the lowest. If you can’t find anything that is in your budget, you can try carpooling and buses that are also nice alternatives for small distance journeys (Blabla car, Flixbus). Also, use websites that will help you find the cheapest options by comparing the prices of all the available flights (check out skyscanner, liligo, edream, kayak). For some cheap housing options, we have guest houses, home swap, youth hostels, airbnb (You can sometimes get promotional offers from members or by inviting friends to sign up).
You can also take the option to work at the place you’re visiting. It will help you make your trip cost less, help you immerse and learn a lot more about the culture. Look up for some part-time jobs or for some internships in advance. If you don’t want to work you can sign up for an amazing experience and volunteer abroad (Check out IVHQ) While you’re there you should eat like a local. It will cost you less (since places for tourists are relatively more expensive) and you can even get better quality food. Check out the following restaurant discovery apps: Foodspotting, Urbanspoon, OpenTable, Yelp, Google Places. Using apps such as travel guides and maps can be very handy when you don’t know the city. You can eventually use Citymapper, Livetrekker, Timeout. In addition, do not forget to check the currency and the rates on the Internet to secure yourself the best deal. (Go to XE Currency for instance). To save money, you can choose to go to a country that doesn’t require any visa or where life is relatively cheap. Morocco is a great destination that won’t cost you much. Good Moroccan food is cheap, exotic landscapes are for free, cute souvenirs are for a few dirhams and housing can be relatively cheaper than housing in Europe (Pretty nice riads and hotels in Marrakech for no outrageous prices). Check out weekendy.net if you’re looking for some affordable weekends to spend in Morocco!

Why Green Juice has become more than just a trend By Julia Duraffourd
What if I told you I had found the absolute remedy to all of your problems? Do you often feel sick during the winter or have lots of allergies? Do you know someone suffering from a leaky gut, a heart disease, cancer, depression or Alzheimer? What if I told you the answer is as simple as eating more veggies? I believe every one of us knows the famous rule of consuming « five vegetables/fruits a day », easy you would tell me? Not so sure…. Today, only 30% of us actually consume half that amount. What is more alarming is that the famous recommendation suggested by the World Health Organization has actually been proved inadequate. You should in reality double the amount and make it 10 a day. Several studies have shown that people with the highest intake of veggies were less likely to die from cancer and heart diseases. Research also demonstrates that vegetables are four times healthier than fruit. This is why you should eat a lot more of them. A new proposal has been to increase our daily portion of vegetables and fruits to 7. I know it sounds like a tall order but this is where green juice takes part!! Green juice is an easy way to add more leafy veg to our diets.
92
How to make the perfect green juice? Keep in mind that the best type of juice is the cold-pressed one, where the juice is extracted by a method of crushing and pressing and still contains all its nutrients. You should progressively start incorporating more leafy greens and veggies, ideally to end up having in your juice 70% of vegetables and 30% of fruits. When you consume juice you allow all the phytonutrients to be readily absorbed through the intestinal wall (without the need to digest it first) and this provides immense health benefits but so will the natural fruit sugars and this is why it is important not to drink or consume too many juices with a high volume of fruit as it may disrupt the blood sugar levels. By consuming your juices that are mostly vegetable you will avoid this being a concern. The best time to consume your fresh juice is before meals or few hours after. This will ensure the correct assimilation of the vitamins and minerals. Eating a meal while drinking your juice slows down the absorption of nutrients and can cause indigestion, gas and fermentation. Please remember that juices shouldn’t replace meals unless you are on a fast that has been approved by your doctor. Juice should be a bonus, not a replacement for eating whole vegetables. So go ahead and try this recipe you will feel so much better! Being healthy has never been that easy!
My green juice routine: o I usually start my day with a glass of green juice (approximately 250ml) o Approx. a handful of kale or spinach o 1 lemon (peeled) o 5 mint leaves o 1 apple o half a cucumber o I also like to add some fresh ginger at times

COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2017 By Chushi Guo
Since 2000, Pantone company would unveil a particular “color of the year” to lead the fashion climate each year. In December, 2016, Pantone company declared “Greenery” (specifically Pantone 15-0343) as color of the year 2017. Surprise? As seen in the picture above, Greenery stores the vigor and lushness of nature. It’s a color so refreshing and revitalizing that it evokes people’s spirits at the beginning of the year and represents human being’s vigorous New Year resolutions. According to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” In 2016, the world has gone through so many hardships: the unexpected Brexit referendum result, the intensifying social and political division regarding the 2016 US election etc.
94
Despite of these stressful matters, Greenery is the color of nature calling for everyone to refresh, revive, restore, rejuvenate and reinvigorate. Greenery symbolizes our seeking for peace, harmony and freedom. At the same time, Pantone company also declares 10 color pairings palettes. Greenery is paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallics and even the enduring presence of PANTONE Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. Now, Greenery is a very prominent element in fashion runways and makeup products. Are you ready to pick up a greenery clothing or other greenery products for yourself?

THE COMFORT OF HOME As we transcend into the lazy summer afternoons, our priority shifts towards fulfilling our desire for comfort. We move back to our protected, secure shells of warmth and coziness that we call our homes and dress to relax ourselves. The emphasis remains on the casual yet chic look that is brought about by an informal nylon dress or the cliché look brought about by jeans and a summer shirt. Let this spring arouse in you a feeling of utmost calmness and satisfaction that reflects in your dressing style.

THE PATH TO NATURAL BEAUTY ACNE
If you’ve been suffering from severe, tough acne for a while and none of those “over-the-counter” products have been working then it’s time for you to move over to a new treatment! Acne occurs when the pores of your skin are clogged with oil, dead skin, or bacteria. Every pore is the opening to a follicle which is made up of a hair and a sebaceous oil gland. The oil glands release sebum oil which move up the hair and come out of the pore creating a pimple onto the surface of your skin. My recommendation is to try a topical treatment and do an internal treatment. The best combination I can give from experience is taking Vitamin E capsules (400 IU) once or twice a week depending on how severe your case is. As for the topical treatment, using a Retinol cream is the best option. Begin with 0.25% and gradually increase your way up to 0.5%. I also recommend trying out Murad’s Acne Spot Treatment Cream for just $18 from Sephora’s Online Store. In addition to medication, you should start a skin regimen that will help unclog pores and rejuvenate skin. The Aztec Indian Healing Clay mask is not only good for acne, it’s amazing and extremely effective in bringing out the glow in your skin and rejuvenates skin cells to give you smooth, clear skin! The Aztec Indian Healing Clay mask can be found on Amazon for about $12.
HAIR FALL
DARK SPOTS
Hair fall can happen for a number of reasons from a simple vitamin deficiency to an underlying health condition. An excellent supplement to use is Visical. Visical is a supplement that supplies essential nutrients to the hair follicle to protract the anagen (growing) phase of the hair growth cycle that will nourish thinning hair and promoting hair growth. It contains Biotin, Zinc, Vitamin C, Horsetail Extract and Iron. One month’s supply (60 tablets) costs about $50. Mane’n’Tail Shampoo and Conditioner are a great way to strengthen your hair and reduce hair fall. Their products contain micro-enriched protein formula which promote hair growth and thickening. Costs are about $12 each (16 oz).
For any dark marks on your face that you’ve been trying to get rid of, the first thing you need to look for in a product is that it contains at least 2% of Hydroquinone. This will help replace the skin cells from the area of your discoloration faster for an even skin tone. I recommend using Porcelana’s Dark Spot Corrector Night Cream to help with any discoloration. Costs ranges from about $8-10.

How to design your workout routine By Alex Audic
They say that consistency is the key to success. The same rule applies when you want to reach a certain fitness goal. Being consistent and following a good and adapted workout routine are crucial to achieve results in the gym. However, when you’re new to the gym world, you can easily get confused when building a proper workout plan to follow. This article will present some of the most famous options you can choose from when creating your routine.
Things to take into consideration -How many days a week can you work out? -How well do you recover? -What is your goal? Weight loss? Weight gain? Endurance? Strength? Is there a particular muscle group you want to focus on? -What is your experience at the gym?
Different workout splits Full-Body It basically consists of training your whole body in a single workout. For that, you choose one to two exercises per muscle group. It is perfect for begin-ners and can show great results. However, you cannot do it two days in a row, as you need to give your muscles at least 48h to recover. Half-Body This one means that you would divide your workouts into “lower-body days” where you’d train legs and “upper-body days”. This is suitable for people who want a bal-anced body or put a strong emphasis on their leg/booty gains. It is arguably one of the best split for women as their goal usually is to focus on their lower-body, while still maintaining a fit and toned upper body.
Push/Pull A Push/Pull split is great as your body will work the way it is meant to, meaning that muscles used to perform the same movement will be working together during the whole workout. For example, a pushing movement will primarily involve your chest, shoulders and triceps’ muscles that will work together. During a pull-workout, you would be working on your back and biceps (possibly traps too). If you wish to split your routine into three workouts, you should do a Push/Pull/Legs split. However if you prefer to divide it in two days, you can add your legworkout to the pull day. Split by muscle group This is one of the most commonly chosen workout routines among gym-goers. You simply focus on one big muscle group per workout, or on one big muscle and its smaller counter part. For example, the first option could look like this: day one: Chest day two: Back day three: Legs day four: Shoulders day five: Arms (Biceps and Triceps) The latter would be like: day one: Chest and triceps day two: Back and biceps day three: Legs day four: Shoulders
The advantage of this split is that you can really target the muscle you want to work on. However, you can usually only work on it once a week.

You also have the option of putting chest and back together in the same workout, repeating it twice a week, which is what Arnold Schwarznegger used to do, to get a ridiculous upper body pump.
These are only a few of the several options you may hear about. Please bear in mind that in fitness, there is no “one size fits all as there is not one best routine. We all have different bodies that will respond differently to training. This is why your workout routine should be personal and you should try what works for you and your goals. If needed, ask a friend who is into fitness for advice, do your research on the web or even come and talk to our personal trainers at Corner4 on campus.
5x5 Perfect for beginners but also for regular gymgoers who want to improve their strength gains. This split consists of performing only the big compound movement (i.e. our article in our previous issue about the magic of compound movements), for 5 sets of 5 reps. You would therefore majorly do squats, deadlifts, benchpress, overhead press and barbell rows (sometimes pull-ups too). As you would hit the weights pretty heavily, it is recommended to train only three to four times a week so your body can recover from that gruelling workout.
Till then, stay strong!
A few examples of routines depending on the time you are willing to put in to achieving your goal -2 days split (non-consecutive days) . Two full-body days. . Two half-body workouts, with one lower and one upper-body training. . A push day (Chest, Shoulders, Triceps) and a Pull/ Leg-day (Back, Legs, Biceps). . Two 5x5 trainings. -3 days split (non-consecutive days) . Three full body workouts. . Two upper-body and one lower-body training (or vice-versa if you wish to focus on legs) . A push-pull-legs split .Three 5x5 workouts -4 days split . Four half-body trainings, distributed according to your priorities (lower body or up-per body gains) . A four days split by muscle group as shown before . Four 5x5 trainings, even though this may be a lot and the exercises would have to be picked wisely to allow for a good recovery. -5/6 days of training . A split by muscle group, a prioritised muscle can be trained once again if given at least 48h of recovery.
