Budapest and Warsaw Hotels Witness Growth
Baffling Indicators in Frankfurt’s Hotel Market
In February, Budapest and Warsaw hotels registered impressive surges in gross operating profit per available room (GOPPAR) of 78.5 percent and 54.1 percent respectively, according to the latest data from HotStats.
Frankfurt hoteliers boosted average room rate (ARR) by 5.6 percent in February, leading to a marginal rise in occupancy and a 5.7 percent improvement in RevPAR to EUR117.51.
H
Budapest
owever, according to HotStats’ data, a general decrease in non-room RevPAR from meeting room hire, food and beverage led to a total RevPAR drop of 0.5 percent to EUR164.53. Nevertheless, a one percentage point increase in payroll combined with a 2.9 percent surge in overheads per available room did not dilute the top-line gains from the rooms department, and gross operating profit per available room (GOPPAR) grew 5.8 percent to EUR56.48 compared to February 2014.
Frankfurt
F
ebruary was another strong month in the Hungarian capital with demand shooting up by 5.6 percentage points, average room rate (ARR) climbing by 9.2 percent and RevPAR growing 19.9 percent to EUR52.59. Warsaw also forged ahead recording a 19.3 percent uplift in RevPAR thanks to a 7.1 percentage point increase in occupancy combined with a 7.9 percent improvement in ARR, most notably fuelled by a 10.3 percent surge in the best available rate (BAR) segment.
Aeroflot’s Passenger Traffic Surges Aeroflot Group’s passenger numbers for the first two months of the year reached 5.1 million, up 15.7 percent year-on-year.
A
eroflot’s own traffic during the same period rose 12.3 percent to 3.5 million travellers. Group revenue passenger kilometres grew by 10.6 percent, while seat load factor increased by 0.9 percentage points year-on-year to 73.4 percent. On international routes, both the group and Aeroflot’s passenger movements surged 2.2 and 9.7 percent respectively, as a result of decreased competition due to lower flight frequencies to Russia by foreign carriers, and higher transit traffic volumes at Sheremetyevo International Airport. 25 APRIL 2015

MARKET UPDATE
Challenging February for Helsinki Airport Upgrade DĂźsseldorf and Istanbul Moves Ahead Both German and Turkish properties faced difficulties this February, according to data released by HotStats. DĂźsseldorf hotels registered negative year-on-year comparisons across all key performance indicators.
B
oth occupancy and average room rate (ARR) declined by 6.1 percentage points and 16.4 percent respectively to deliver a RevPAR drop of 23.5 percent. On the other hand, Istanbul hoteliers experienced growth in demand at the expense of ARR going down by 11.7 percent, resulting in a RevPAR fall of 5.4 percent . However, positive movements in non-room departments softened the total RevPAR decline to 0.5 percent.
Istanbul
Now in its second year, Helsinki Airport’s development programme has already resulted in a number of changes at the hub.
O
ver the coming months, the Finnish airport is set to welcome a new rail connection, and the renovation of one of its three runways and preparations for future stages of the project are also on the agenda. As Ville Haapasaari, airport director, Helsinki Airport, noted, launched in spring 2014, the development aims for a major overhaul of the services, facilities and traffic arrangement. In 2014, passenger traffic at the Scandinavian hub exceeded 16 million for the first time and the extensive project is envisioned to increase capacity to 20 million travellers by 2020.
Helsinki Airport
Aer Lingus Passenger Numbers Up in March Aer Lingus Group announced its traffic figures for March, indicating that the total number of passengers carried during the month, including Aer Lingus Regional customers, was 815,000, up 2.3 percent year-on-year.
L
ong-haul movements increased by 25.3 percent to 94,000 travellers, compared to 75,000 passengers in the same month in 2014. The overall load factor for the month was up 4.4 percentage points to 79.1 percent, while the respective short-haul metric grew by 2.5 percentage points to 76.4 percent reflecting capacity reductions related to planned network adjustments to protect margins given seasonal demand conditions.

he current stage of the restoration and preservation of Italy’s Castello di Castelfalfi forms part of a long series of operations to which the village of the same name, located between Pisa and Florence, has been subjected over the centuries. The main aims of the project were to create a modern La Rocca di Castelfalf restaurant, with all necessary adjustments, while also maintaining the historic integrity and Tuscan identity of the building, turning the castle into a suitable venue without taking anything away from its historical nature. By exploiting the various levels of the building and the two towers, reopening arches, harmonising the existing spaces, redesigning the paths and passageways, introducing the necessary facilities so as to maximise the accessibility and ergonomics, the result is the castle as it appears today with functional, liveable interiors.

Transaero CEO Urges Targeted Measures
O
