TRAVEL TALK

OLIVIER JANKOVEC Director general, Airports Council International Europe

Traffic growth continues to be mainly driven by low-cost carriers

Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme […] under way in Australia

“Variations in growth between national markets are significant and traffic recovery from the 2008 peak is still incomplete for some of them – which means room for further growth ahead. Traffic growth continues to be mainly driven by low-cost carriers and it also tends to focus on existing routes and established markets. Clearly, airlines have become much more riskadverse, in spite of much lower oil prices. This results in increasing connectivity challenges for smaller airports and their communities.”

“Travel agents and tour operators continue to be important in planning and booking holidays in Australia and New Zealand, so working with the travel trade is a key element of our promotional activity. We were delighted that these travel professionals [from Australia and New Zealand] have taken time out of their busy schedules to come and visit Ireland. […] Our aim is that when these travel agents and tour operators return home, they will be even more enthusiastic about the destination, helping to secure a greater share of their business for Ireland.”
