DMOs at ECM Cement Their Future

D A

ccording to Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Foundation’s recently conducted review of corporate travellers based in Germany, the UK and France, Europe’s three largest business travel markets, it was found that the segment is increasingly booking direct with suppliers, along with embracing mobile, and sharing economy services. The study, Booking Behaviour II, conducted in partnership with Concur Technologies, detailed that nearly a third of those surveyed expect to use alternative channels more often in the next year. However, the growth in direct bookings will not necessarily be at the expense of booking through an online booking tool (OBT), a significant share of professionals are also expected to rely on OBTs more often in the near future.

uring the last European Cities Marketing's (ECM) meeting in Gdansk, attendees were asked to determine and overcome 32 challenges for Destination Marketing Organisations (DMOs). To reach this objective, ECM joined forces with the Digital Tourism Think Tank (DTTT), connecting hundreds of destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa by creating platforms for knowledge transfer, the exchange of best practice, and expert leadership in destination marketing. Conclusions were focussed on the value of having both creative and productive skillsets. The workshop followed the conclusions of a joint report, Destination transformation and disruptions in digital, which identified leadership, digital first as well as content and creativity as priorities.
