Star Wars Marathon Athlete Inspires All

W

heelchair competitor Kurt Blankenship won the men’s push rim wheelchair division of the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side at Walt Disney World Resort on April 23, with a time of 1:27:46. However, it was said that there was more to the achievement than the victory. Having previously struggled to adjusting to being paralysed from the waist down after a car accident, his participation helped to educate and inspire his wife and their three children, who are each overcoming their own challenges as a result of being born premature. Blankenship took on the race to demonstrate resilience, in line with the athlete’s views that his children’s medical challenges motivate him to be an inspirational example of persistence and fortitude.
