family visits, be it educational or entertainment. The emirate revives history in modern context, with a combination of art and science museums, amusement and water parks, aquariums, restaurants and cafes, retail outlets as well as traditional and contemporary markets. With the launch of the Sharjah My Family Destination and Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 drawing close, several ecotourism, heritage and cultural projects are in motion.
Sharjah Science Museum, Maritime Museum and Al Noor Island are amongst the popular attractions in the city and a great way to spend the day. Middle Eastern families may also enjoy the Sharjah Art Museum, Calligraphy Museum, Al Mahatta Fort, Al Qasba Canal and other historic and educational landmarks.
TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: How do you cater to the needs of families?
ALPER CAN BULCUM: There is lot in store for guests with the renovation plans drawing to close completion and the introduction of new up-scale room categories and options. The hotel is set to expand its number of rooms and amenities which is something both business and leisure travellers can look forward to.
ALPER CAN BULCUM: Ramada Sharjah frequently has families visiting and the property has recently been awarded 2017 Travellers Choice award for Families by TripAdvisor. We offer our guests the options to book our spacious deluxe rooms […] or even one- and two-bedroom suites depending on their requirements and duration of stay. The suites also include fully equipped kitchen, laundry rooms and other amenities to cover all requirements a family might need. We also have a childrens’ pool available for our young visitors and if they wish to [seek] additional entertainment, Sahara Mall, which is connected by a footbridge to Ramada Sharjah, home to Adventureland, one of the leading and biggest indoor theme parks in the UAE, [offering numerous] entertainment options for all ages.
TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: What can guests look forward to in the near future at your property?
TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: How is business so far this year? ALPER CAN BULCUM: Overall we are experiencing short-term bookings, which has also been the case in the past. We find that business levels are similar to that of 2016, with the reason being that the amount of hotels have increased in all emirates, including Sharjah, Ajman, Ras al Khaimah and Dubai, thus giving guests the option to book hotels depending on their budgets and requirements.
TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: In your opinion, what sets Sharjah apart from other family oriented destinations? ALPER CAN BULCUM: Sharjah […] has so much to offer without the frills and fancies the modern world likes to lace everything in. There are beautiful beaches and realistically priced attractions in a safe and welcoming familyfriendly environment. What I find makes Sharjah particularly attractive is that it offers an authentic Arab atmosphere complemented by urban infrastructure and modern facilities, making it one of the most preferred family destinations. TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: What are the most popular attractions for families? ALPER CAN BULCUM: There are plenty of family activities in Sharjah that both adults and children will enjoy.
